Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Hello Ladies!
@Sash78 @Jem1979 how was your Day 21 blood testing? Today I also had an abdominal and vaginal scan which also showed all good. So I guess, just to keep trying 🤷‍♀️

Hey @GingerFox2021 I can sympathise a lot with the feeling that you’re obsessive over ttc!! I am definitely overthinking it too. I have been doing acupuncture for a couple of months : I see a fertility coach who does acupuncture (she also gives me a facial massage while the needles are in). It is bliss. I get to rant about all my lack-of-pregnancy fears to someone who completely gets it and then to lay back and relax. I definitely come out of the sessions feeling a lot more centred and less stuck in my own head. So even if I it hasn’t got me pregnant yet, it is definitely helping my mental health!

GingerFox2021 · 21/08/2021 22:49

Thank you @Sash78 I am generally fine, just some days - being optimistic, some days- not so much. I don’t even know why I am putting off the acupuncture.. I really love the idea of it 🤷‍♀️Kind of can’t decide.

Sash78 · 21/08/2021 01:16

Sorry to hear that @GingerFox2021. I’m obsessing too. It’s really hard to find a way to relax. But if you decide a plan, with supplements, SMEP, Pre-seed, IVF, or whatever you choose, and you’re following that plan, then you’re doing all you can. Try not to give yourself a hard time.
If you’re not sure about acupuncture maybe consider something else like reflexology or reiki, or even swimming or something? Whatever works for you. Hope you feel better in the morning x

GingerFox2021 · 21/08/2021 00:33

@Sash78 @Jem1979 I was pleased about the results as expected them to be low for some reason. I hope you both get high ones, too.
Feeling very obsessive about TTC and desperate and don’t know what to do 🤷‍♀️.

Sash78 · 20/08/2021 09:26

Thanks for the numbers @GingerFox2021. They sound positive for you 😄

Jem1979 · 20/08/2021 07:40

@GingerFox2021
thanks for sharing its helpful to know your results. Will see what mine come back as! I'm also keen to try acupuncture just haven't managed to get around to it yet!

Hi @Sash78 I had my day 21 bloods done couple weeks ago. The receptionist also told the numbers only but I started questioning her straight away. So mine is 55.6 mnol and
to ovulate you need over 28. But I have read on MN that different GPs give a very different min number to ovulate.
Yes, I think that stress can stop from happening to conceive as it all goes to the brain and then it makes body to react opposite. I’m very keen to try an acupuncture- scared at the same time, but definitely want. I’m cautious about Ubiquinol too- but again on the very edge of trying it.

Sash78 · 19/08/2021 20:38

Thanks @Jem1979, yes need to try and calm down and I am extremely grateful for my wee boy so count my blessings. I'm sure stress is really bad for cycle - I'm guessing that's why people are mentioning acupuncture etc. Funny we're both going for bloods Monday! Best of luck.
@Lastyearttc I hadn't even thought they might post the results, good to know, thanks. If they don't provide any context, I might get back to you, I have looked online but can't find that info.

Lastyearttc · 19/08/2021 19:47

Thanks guys. With regards to the bloods, I had day 3 I think and day 21 bloods. They sent me the results in the post and they had ranges so you could see if the results were in the normal range or not. Happy to share mine if that helps anyone once you get yours.

I was also on coq10.

Jem1979 · 19/08/2021 19:01

Hi @Sash78 welcome to the chat! No real words of wisdom from me, though I'm in a very similar boat to you. Turned 42 on Sat and have a 2 year old. Also really want a second and been TTC since last June. Don't be too hard on yourself for not trying earlier, you are trying now so keep the faith! Funnily enough I am also going for 21day bloods on Monday! Be great if anyone can let us know what to expect. I have been taking ubiquinol since the start of the year. It is a definite help speaking to others going through this, and hearing news of BFP's like @Lastyearttc x

Hi, do you mind if I join? First, congratulations @Lastyearttc on the amazing news! I hope it all goes smoothly.
I’m 42 now, 43 in October and have a 5 year old who is my world. I always wanted 2 and that’s what hubby and I agreed years ago. Ever since my son was born I’ve been even more keen as I want a wee friend for him. Unprompted, he asks me every few days when he can have a brother or sister - getting hard to cope with that.
Been ttc on and off (i.e. no contraception and when we feel like it, which isn’t often tbh!) for 18 months, but more seriously in past 6 months. Been worried since last year, but now it’s real rising panic. There are several reasons why we didn’t ttc immediately after having our son, but I’m so angry with myself though for not just fighting through things and getting on with it. Doing the 21 days thing on Monday and I’m pretty terrified that I have early-ish menopause. When I call for the results, does anyone know how they give them to you? I mean, what am I hoping to hear/not hear? Sometimes the doctor’s receptionists just read out numbers (understandably) and I’m keen to understand what they’re saying to me.
Planning to investigate uniquinol but I’m cautious.
GP said to relax and not use clearblue stuff but I just bought a load...
Any words of wisdom would be amazing. Just knowing others are going though this helps a lot. There’s nobody I feel I can talk to. That’s probably why this is so long - sorry! Xx

Twothirtyam · 18/08/2021 13:26

Yes that’s amazing @Lastyearttc !!! Wishing you a good and easy pregnancy!

Jem1979 · 16/08/2021 07:10

@Lastyearttc woo hoo! Congrats that's great news. Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy! xx

Hi all!
For those that remember me I have had a break from it all this cycle due to me being away from partner over fertile window. So I haven't been temping or even taking any vitamins. Have also been drinking most days due to my 2 week holiday and it was my 43rd birthday on Wednesday... I was even out Friday night having cocktails and wine... anyway... realised I might be having a longer cycle and boobs looked a bit different Saturday morning... so I took a test and it's a BFP!

Obviously VERY early days, but does prove that when you relax, it can happen. Before that I had 12 cycles of temping, opks and timing dtd and nothing!

parks11 · 09/08/2021 17:20

Thanks @Twothirtyam and @Jem1979 for the welcome 😊
@Twothirtyam that's a good shout. I was advised to take low does aspirin when I was pregnant last time, so maybe I'll get ahead and take it again this time if it is supposed to help it stick.
I'm using the CB ovulation sticks to help everything. I don't tell my partner though as the pressure seems to put him off! So try to DTD not very much until the high fertility and peak shows on CB, so he is definitely in the mood 🙈🤣.
Fingers crossed we all get a sticky, healthy positive result soon x

Jem1979 · 08/08/2021 12:20

Hi and welcome @parks11 I hope your journey for number 2 is less complicated than for your first.

Sorry it's a CP @Twothirtyam it's so disappointing. Worth speaking to your GP. I contacted mine this week and have booked in for 21 day bloods. Though tbh the Doctor I spoke to was of the view that it can take 18 months and the fact I conceived after 9 was quick. But she did agree it's a good idea to rule out any issues with iron/thyroid. Bk using OPK's this month, AF just left so planning to DTD every other day until I get my peak. Hope everyone else doing ok. How's things progressing for you @gizmo167 x

Hi @parks11 glad to have another over 40 Mum to share experiences with 😊
My first pregnancy was an MMC too and it was completely brutal. And sorry to hear you’ve had another CP, I’m just having my second since TTC number 2 and even though I know to expect it it’s still so horribly disappointing. So many of my friends (even those over 40) have popped out second babies no problem I assumed the same would happen for me stupidly! No advice really. I’m taking supplements like you are. The only thing I notice is that it’s the months we do lots more DTD that I actually manage to conceive. Sounds really obvious but my partner and I often only have sex once a month for various reasons so I have to make a real effort to get more active if I want a chance of a positive pregnancy test. I’m thinking of contacting the GP or possibly our local fertility clinic to speak to them about taking aspirin as I’ve read that can help pregnancies to stick. But I promised myself I wouldn’t go too crazy trying for number 2 so it’s a tricky call! I’m fairly sure the GP will fob me off anyway.

parks11 · 06/08/2021 21:33

Hi All,

Do you mind if I join?
As background, I'm 41, have a ten month old baby who is amazing.... feel time is running out.. so TTC again. Took a long time last time- one MMC and then a year later, the day we were going to start IVF I found out I was pregnant!
So lucky to have my little one finally but if we can would love her to have a little sis or bro.
I am still breastfeeding a little bit, so don't know if that will make things more difficult.
I tested way too early this month, got a strong positive, which quickly changed and became a negative. Think we may be in for another rocky ride! Taking ubiquinol,
vitamin d and folate. Any tips welcome! 😊 xx

Twothirtyam · 06/08/2021 11:00

Total torture! I usually avoid testing early too but now I’ve started these supplements there are some I’m supposed to stop and some I’m supposed to start if pregnant so when I didn’t start spotting I thought I’d do a test to see just in case. AF is due today but I expect hormones will delay it by a day or two. I’m going to try and finish work early today and go and sit in a cafe and eat cake 😂

Jem1979 · 06/08/2021 09:47

Grrr, I'm feeling your frustration over here. It's like torture isn't it? I never test early as just can't deal with it. Sorry to hear it's lighter but you are def not out til AF arrives? Hope you can distract yourself with something over the next day or two x

OP posts:
Twothirtyam · 06/08/2021 09:28

Gah tested this morning and line is no darker in fact I think it’s slightly lighter! Stupid me also looked up potential due date wish I hadn’t done that. Ah well. Just need to try and calm and wait for AF to arrive. I’m so on edge at the moment I just want to go to sleep for a week and not think about it!

Twothirtyam · 05/08/2021 17:23

@GingerFox2021 I’ve been varying how often I do it because I just wasn’t able to go very often due to other commitments earlier in the year. Then when life calmed down I went twice early in my cycle before ovulation (once a week) and then once after ovulation. I think when I did it before having my daughter I went once a week for a few weeks and then once every other week. But she leaves it up to me completely. I think once in the first half and one in the second half is a good amount. I can’t believe it’s so expensive in London! I’m on the south coast so used to London prices but that’s crazy! I take Ubiquonal too after speaking to a nutritionist. 300mgs a day was advised to me.
I didn’t test this morning as figured I’d just stress myself out not to see much line progression but have spent the afternoon with really uncomfortable cramps and then just now noticed my boobs had totally lost sensitivity (despite going sore again earlier in the day) so not holding out much hope! I’ve not even told my partner yet as I know he’d stress out so I’m just a gigantic ball of stress ready to pop! Need to get my daughter in bed and then just try and distract with some telly or a book or something.

GingerFox2021 · 05/08/2021 16:25

@Twothirtyam how long are you doing an acupuncture? And is it just acupuncture or fertility acupuncture? Did the acupuncturist suggest how many times to do it or it’s up to you?
In my area where I live in London it’s about 70-80£ per session.
I have just called Zita West Nutritionist to get some answers about Ubiquinol, so I might order one.
I agree all this is pricey, but you know I don’t want to look back later and regret that I didn’t try this or that. I think if it makes me less stressed, i will have a go.
How’s your testing? Did you test again?

Twothirtyam · 05/08/2021 12:50

Glad you’re feeling positive @Jem1979 !
@GingerFox2021 I do acupuncture and do find it really relaxing. It’s so expensive though I’ve got to say I’m going to have to cut back on it! I was having it three times a month and it’s £50 a pop! 😮
