Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Jem1979 · 07/05/2022 19:22

Hi all. Just to update I gave birth to a baby girl last Sunday. We are over the moon & both doing well. I'd like to wish everyone on this thread the very best of luck going forward and hope you all manage to successfully conceive in the not too distant future xxx

@Sash78 hope all went ok at your scan.

@TreadLightly3 that's good you've got the ball rolling. At least then you'll have a clearer idea where things stand. I'm grand thanks, on the final stretch so looking forward to meeting bubba soon! x

Thanks @Jem1979 I’ve taken the plunge and booked us in at a clinic. I appreciate you replying and hope you’re doing well xx

Sash78 · 31/03/2022 22:50

Sorry I've been quiet for ages. Amazing to read about all the pregnancies!
@jem1979 lovely to hear you're doing ok. Spring chick on the way soon :)
@cuju2407 Congratulations! Are you feeling well?
@lastyearttc So pleased to see you're doing well. I hope the move went to plan.
I've been waiting for ages for referral, had my video appointment a good few weeks ago, and I'm in tomorrow for first scan etc. I could tell the nurse who did the initial assessment was concerned about past fibroids although she was absolutely lovely and tried not to let on. Was told they'd shrunk a year ago, but I'm pretty worried about it now. But we'll see what tomorrow brings. Hoping nothing very scary.

Jem1979 · 21/03/2022 08:12

@Lastyearttc hopefully you won't have such a long labour experience this time! I'm grand ta finish work in 3 weeks so looking forward to having a bit of time to get organised!

Welcome to the new ladies. I will be 43 in August so don't let age put you off!

@ttcbecca I started trying for a 2nd when my son turned 1 and he will be 3 in May so all in has taken 2 years with one MC during that time. Keep the faith, it can happen for you!

@Hopeful40 Yes I suppose being harsh it is a numbers game, but if you focus too much on that then it can get you down and at the end of the day you only need one good egg! When you have experienced losses, doesn't matter whether it's CP or a later MC, emotionally they are so so tough.

@TreadLightly3 oh so hard when they are asking for a sibling......if only it was as easy as just doing that! My hubby wasn't keen on idea of IVF so we decided if it wasn't meant to be naturally for a 2nd then we would count our blessings. I only ever had 21 days bloods done by my GP to check for ovulation, so not the best placed to advise about an MOT, but others on this thread may be able to help?

Hi everyone I have loved reading the thread and huge congrats to all of you who have become pregnant!

I would really love some advice - I’m 45 with a 3 year old who I adore and he has started asking for a sibling which as we all know is gut-wrenching, especially when you so badly want another yourself! I’ve always been too afraid to TTC in case of learning difficulties given my age plus I had major health issues after he was born but now they have gone away and I’m thinking why the hell not. But first of all I want to find out how healthy my reproductive system is for another pregnancy and whether I have a cat in hell’s chance of getting pregnant with my own egg. Or if my uterus is healthy enough for IVF.

Can I go to any clinic for an MOT? Or should I look for specific tests? Are some places better than others or are the tests standardised??

All and any advice welcome, thanks!

Hello Ladies, I am so happy I found this community. We have a 3 year old and have been trying to conceive for almost a year now. We had 3 miscarriages or chemical pregnancies. Although I don't like calling them a chemical pregnancy... This cycle we have started with IUI. The follicle scan yesterday showed 2 good sized follicles... But no one knows the quality of the egg and my gyno is telling me it's a numbers game. I feel so sad and defeated sometimes and find it so hard to stay positive. Please share your thoughts and experiences!

ttcbecca · 16/03/2022 08:43

Newbie here 👋 42 and desperate for a sibling for my 3-year old. Have been trying for 2 years, 1 CP and 2 MC 😢 Thank you to everyone sharing positive pregnancy stories and best of luck to everyone still trying xx

Lastyearttc · 15/03/2022 21:57

@Jem1979 first one I was induced at 38weeks which ended in emergency c sec after 3 days... so probably happen again! How are you doing now?

Jem1979 · 02/03/2022 15:39

Hello there @cuju2407 and congrats on the BFP :-) hope it all continues to go well for you.

@Lastyearttc great to hear growth scan went well, not long to go for you now eeek! Hope bubba stays put for you, what happened with your first were you on time?

And congrats @Mattieandmummy fab news for you too! I know what you mean about not letting yourself get too excited, but that's lovely you are having another girl. How has your pregnancy been so far?

We haven't found out the sex, I'm thinking maybe a girl this time although my pregnancies have been very similar.. either way can't wait to meet him/her!

It's really great to hear of so many ladies in their 40's having successful pregnancies and I really hope this encourages everyone else on the TTC rollercoaster xx

An update from me and apologies for being very quiet on this thread. Just had my 20 week scan and we're having another girl! I hadn't really allowed myself to be excited until now but am quietly really really pleased. For anyone who doesn't remember me and is feeling dispirited I am almost 41 and once my cycle sorted itself out from stopping breastfeeding I conceived immediately, then miscarried very early then had one weird cycle and then bang pregnant again with this one.

Lastyearttc · 02/03/2022 11:16

Hi @Jem1979, great to hear from you. Sitting in antenatal ward right now just had a 33 week growth scan. All good. Also haven’t found out the sex as curious as I am! And also completely unprepared as have to finish up my full time job and move house at the end of March, so really hope this baby stays in until April!

Good luck to everyone else!

cuju2407 · 01/03/2022 08:34

I've been watching this thread for a few months and finally got my bfp on Sunday. Still in shock as I was preparing myself to accept it might never happen.

Jem1979 · 01/03/2022 07:25

Hi everyone, just me saying hello again. @Lastyearttc how are you doing? I'm 30 weeks so the end is in sight, feeling pretty unprepared but equally excited! Hope everyone is doing ok, start of spring today so hopefully some better weather & some good new on the horizon for all those trying xx

Hi everyone, just thought I'd check in. How's everyone's January been? I feel like the time is just flying by! 25 weeks now can't believe it. Feeling grand, just really missing the booze! Lol x

Jem1979 · 11/12/2021 13:18

@RockingGazelle no, not going to find out. Didn't with our DS and liked that it was a surprise! I think maybe girl this time but hubby is convinced it's another boy!

OP posts:
RockingGazelle · 06/12/2021 19:11

Hi @Jem1979. Oh god, I know exactly what you mean about not being arsed when you have to do it. And my DH is not a fan of being under pressure!!

DD took 10 months to conceive with one.chemical in that time. So it wasn't too bad. But I'm obviously a few years older, and now the wrong side of 40, plus we DTD far less! So we will see.

Ooh not long for the 20 week scan. Will you find out the sex or keep it a surprise?

Jem1979 · 04/12/2021 08:29

@RockingGazelle thanks yes can't really complain. 18 weeks tomo, have 20 weeks scan in a couple of weeks so feels like it's flying by! Am a bit more knackered but think that's to be expected at 42 with a 2 1/2 year old!! Oh I hear ya, my son is a frequent waker. We had to be creative about DTD lol but it is very hard when you know it's your peak and you can't really be ar5ed!! Haha. We started to try last May when my son turned one. Took 9 months to conceive then sadly had a mc at 8 weeks in April. Thankfully got pregnant again in August. How long did it take you to conceive your DD? xx

OP posts:
RockingGazelle · 03/12/2021 21:07

Thanks @Jem1979. Hope all is going well with your pregnancy. How many weeks are you now?

We have been trying since April but the first few months were not proper efforts. Have upped the ante a bit more recently with opks but it's so hard finding the time and mojo to dtd enough, especially as my DD is not a good sleeper!

Jem1979 · 01/12/2021 10:47

@RockingGazelle hi there and welcome to the chat! Yes a few pregnancies on this thread, think it's me & @Lastyearttc at the moment so definitely shows it can be done in your 40's. How long have you been TTC number 2? I know that feeling of frustration when you haven't been able to properly try one month! x

OP posts:
RockingGazelle · 30/11/2021 13:12

Hi all - can I join please? I was 40 in July and am TTC #2. I have a DD who will be 2 next month. Lovely to see some BFPs on this thread.
Had been hoping to have a good try this month but DH was ill (not going to lie- I was quite irritated!) and so I think we completely missed our window. So onto December....
