Anyone else TTC over the age of 40? I have a 19 month who was conceived first attempt. TTC #2 since June without success so far. Be good to hear from anyone in the same boat! I’m still bfeeding so wondering if that might be a factor. Plus my age obvs!

Thanks @Jem1979 I've just called the fertility centre and left a VM, though always good to hear from others too. x

Jem1979 · 07/11/2022 11:19

@Lastyearttc started weaning here too! Forgot how messy it is! My house is a total tip lol.

@Sash78 oh sounds like you've been having a stressful time really sorry to hear that. So not helpful just getting a letter like that in the post with no discussion. I've no idea about that am sorry, hopefully someone else can help you or else I would request an appt to discuss further? Sounds promising you have got your period (even sort of) though? xx

Hi everyone, I've not been on here for a while. Lovely to hear news of healthy babies!
I'd appreciate any knowledge about Cabergoline please. Anyone know if it can affect LH/FSH? Been taking it for 3 months due to pituitary adenoma. Blood tests a few weeks ago (age 43 almost 44) had awful results: prolactin back to normal but LH/FSH had gone from 8 to 100, meaning they class me as in full-on menopause. My period should have come back when the prolactin went back to normal, but it hasn't, which clearly isn't great. I've been pretty devastated.
To top it off, this news was delivered in an extremely blunt letter with no detail, no information about whether to keep taking the cabergoline, a recommendation to start HRT without any reasoning, and no offer to discuss. Next appointment in March 2023. I had to call to find out what it was all about.
In addition, I'm now really confused about the cabergoline. I have run out of it (I know I'm sounding really disorganised here and I am - just so stressed about this and other things) so I've missed one dose. I'm due to pick up the new supply today and had planned to take a dose, but my period just started (sort of) for the first time in about a year. I now don't know what to do and can't think straight. Could anyone help please?
By the way, with cabergoline you take one dose twice a week.
Thanks to anyone who can help x

Hi @Jem1979 lovely to hear from you. I agree, life is hectic with two! God knows how I’m going to manage everything with I go back to work lol. We have starting weaning here so it’s messy fun times! Hope everyone’s is doing ok? Xx

Jem1979 · 25/10/2022 15:01

Just echoing thx for giving hope xx

Jem1979 · 10/07/2022 10:04

@Lastyearttc congrats on your baby boy, my little bubba is 10 weeks today, time is flying by!! I will be 43 next month so I agree don't focus too much on age. If you are still ovulating you can still make a baby! Hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying some nice weather xx

@Lastyearttc Congratulations and thank you for sharing! Love hearing these positive outcomes 😀After 2 miscarriages and now nearing 43 I’ve pretty much given up hope of giving my daughter a sibling but you’ve shown me there’s still a chance. I hope you are enjoying life with your new baby and getting some sleep at least 🤣

Lastyearttc · 30/06/2022 10:28

Hi all, sorry I have been awol… but for those that remember me… I successfully delivered my baby boy back in April and he is 11 weeks old already! I am absolutely in love with him and enjoying my baby bubble so much!
For those ttc, don’t give up! I’m 43 (44 in august), had 3 previous mcs but now have a sibling for my 6 yo daughter in my arms. It’s a tough journey but so worth it. X

RockingGazelle · 14/06/2022 15:07

Have you had your DH's testosterone levels tested or just taking the supplements as extra help?

RockingGazelle · 14/06/2022 15:06

Hi @41ferriswheels. I'm still here!

It's CD10 for me so really need to start DTD. DD was full of toddler lurgy last week which she has passed on to me but am starting to feel better now after feeling very ropey over the weekend so hopefully we will manage it!

We are away early July which i had hoped would coincide with FW but it looks like it will instead coincide with AF!

41FerrisWheels · 14/06/2022 08:45

Which CD is everyone on and how is everyone feeling? I am on CD4, and on my 5th day of taking Ovum so that won't have kicked in yet so not hopeful for this cycle and will have to miss July cycle as DH away with work, so August will be the next cycle I am feeling more positive about as will have been taking Ovum for two months and DH has been taking testosterone supplements and other sperm enhancing vitamins etc
In other news, if anyone is feeling particularly emotional, anxious or just out of sorts, it could be because it's a June Strawberry Moon tonight! I'm no expert on the moon and its effects but I know that I always get my period around the same time as the full moon and I never sleep well!
Anyway, any updates from anyone else still on here that's ttc would be good to hear...hope one of us (or all of us in fact!) have good news soon! xxx

RockingGazelle · 10/06/2022 19:56

Thank you for the pep talk @41FerrisWheels. It has helped! I agree that it seems a bit early for menopause unless there is a family history of it but I think my mum went though menopause mid 50s and my sister is 2.5 years older than me and it hasn't struck her yet so hopefully it was a just a funny month for us both.

I hadn't heard of ovum but have done some reading today and have now ordered myself some! I figure it can't hurt!!

41FerrisWheels · 10/06/2022 10:01

Hi @RockingGazelle i can totally empathise, had that same feeling this month too but AF arrived today, two days early and also light, and the peri menopausal question did enter my mind but we have to keep the faith until the fat lady sings! And I did happen to find a clip from ‘This Morning’ about a 47 year old woman who went through the menopause, had HRT, was told she likely had cervical cancer, went for CT scan and yep, you guessed it, she was actually pregnant after 11 years of infertility struggles. Ok, so I’m not saying that’s going to happen but I think at 41 for you and 43 for me, it’s still a tad early for menopause. I think it often follows when your own mum went through menopause, not sure if that’s a fact or just old wives tale, I asked my mum and unhelpfully she couldn’t remember.
Anyway, I’ve just read It Starts With the Egg and discovered the fabulous all in one supplement called Ovum that has everything in as recommended by the book to improve egg quality, help reduce recurrent miscarriage and aid age related infertility so I’ve started taking that today. It says take for 3 months before trying but obviously time is not on my side so not sure I can wait…is anyone else taking Ovum? Xx

RockingGazelle · 10/06/2022 09:24

Congratulations @Jem1979! Jope you're all keeping well.

I'm about CD 6. Felt so optimistic last month - we were away during FW and DTD plenty on the right days. And then I had sore heavy boobs so I was really hopeful. But then AF turned up 2 days early. Was unusually light as well so am wondering if I may be peri- menopausal. I'm 41 next month.

I had been feeling quite positive but as my DD is getting older (she is now 2.5) I'm aware that any age gap is also getting larger than I would like, if it happens at all.

Am going to read the thread @41FerrisWheels posted to try and perk myself up!

Jem1979 · 31/05/2022 09:09

@41FerrisWheels you are quite right, ignore the negative stats and focus on the positive stories, loads of people successfully conceive in their 40's, me included, and there have been a few others on this thread too. Sending you all the positive vibes 😘 xx

OP posts:
41FerrisWheels · 31/05/2022 08:30

Ignore that one, I’ve found an even more positive one here ‘Hope for age 40 ttc’ a much better read, we can do this everyone! Our time will come 🤩

41FerrisWheels · 30/05/2022 04:04

Morning All! Just checking in, how are we all doing in half term week and Jubilee week too!? I am missing out being overseas as it looks like lots of celebrations going on over in the UK! Anyway, just wanted to share that I was reading a thread on here that has really inspired me and motivated me to keep going, despite the 4 (often challenging) years of inconsistently ttc our second, 2 chemical mc's and 2 mc's at 6 weeks and 8 weeks...so wanted to share it with you! I was 43 last month and so started googling 'ttc at 43' and Google brought me back to Mumsnet (of course - the best source of all things Mum related!) The title is 'Is it even worth ttc at 43' so if you have a search on here you'll find it, but lots of people commented on it with positive stories about conceiving and giving birth in their 40's, so if you need some good news then check it out :-) Sometimes it's easy to just see the negative, scaremongering and rubbish stats in the media etc but so many women successfully give birth to healthy babies in their 40's - and therefore there is every chance that we could all be one of them and add to some positive stats and stories too💛!! :-) xxxx

Jem1979 · 22/05/2022 09:37

@cuju2407 that's fab all going well so far. Hope the nausea subsides soon, I was lucky and hardly had any sickness or nausea. We are doing well Eilidh is settling in great and we are adjusting to life as a 4. Just trying to enjoy every minute as she is changing so quickly! x

cuju2407 · 22/05/2022 07:12

Congrats @Jem1979 on the birth of your little girl. I am now 16 weeks and all going well so far apart from the nausea 🤢. I still can't believe I am pregnant sometimes. We took years to conceive my son but managed this time after just a few cycles so I just don't think it's sunk in yet!

Sash78 · 18/05/2022 21:59

@Jem1979 huge congratulations! I'm so happy for you. Thank you for the lovely message to the group. Thanks for all your input and sympathy. Wishing you all the very best. x

TreadLightly3 · 09/05/2022 21:56

Thanks @41FerrisWheels wishing you tons of luck xx

41FerrisWheels · 09/05/2022 06:21

This is so true @Jem1979 and you have given me much hope! We are still overseas but back in July - I think I was always slightly apprehensive about getting pregnant over here as it's a developing country but now we are on the countdown to leave and we've had a good 6 months break from ttc I am ready to get back on the horse (so to speak!) and see what happens, BUT much more relaxed and que sera sera about it this time! (She says...😉)

Hope everyone else has had a good weekend wherever you are in your cycle...I am now in the limbo of waiting to see if I get a BFP in a couple of weeks...chances are slim as we only DTD once but it was on my most fertile day so you never know! 🍀

Jem1979 · 09/05/2022 05:15

@41FerrisWheels hello there and thank you! How are you doing? Are you still abroad? Great to hear you are giving it another go you just never know what's around the corner x

41FerrisWheels · 09/05/2022 02:18

@Jem1979 Congratulations!! This is fabulous news, so happy for you! A lovely birthday date indeed! I have just read back through all the messages since I was last on here and it’s great to hear such positive news! I had thought I had given up ttc but I’ve decided to try a few more times so I’m back and I know how useful this group was last time I was on this rollercoaster so glad it’s still going strong!

@TreadLightly3 I had tests a couple of years ago now so can’t remember exactly but we paid to go to a local Fertility Centre for most of them as it was secondary infertility so not covered on NHS, I remember they said my husband had slow sperm and I had low egg count so even with IVF they could only increase our chance by 5% and as we had managed to get pregnant just not managed to keep the pregnancy I didn’t think it was worth it as we could conceive just didn’t have good quality eggs evidently…but it only takes 1 good one! And I’m hoping it’s in me somewhere! Then we got the HyCoSy on the NHS I think after I had had 3 miscarriags as they will investigate after 3…Good luck with your tests, it’s good to find out what’s going on and can give you some reassurance or can help you make sense of things at least…
