TTC after miscarriage

lamby12 · 05/01/2021 13:39

Hi just wondered if anyone had any experience of continuing TTC after miscarriage. I had a loss at 5/6 weeks recently. The bleeding has now stopped (about 3 days clear) and I'm starting to feel back to normal physically. Emotionally I'm gutted as we have been trying for so long and a few close relatives who know have said we should wait a while to recover emotionally/physically.
Whilst I agree, I've also read that you're most fertile after a miscarriage and it's taken 18months of inconsistent ovulation/low hormones for me to get pregnant. I don't want to miss what could be an increased chance when my odds are low ordinarily.
The hospital said I should wait until a normal period for dating reasons only, they said nothing about risk of infection or complications getting pregnant straight away. I have no idea when I would ovulate (if) now.
Any experience out there?

They tried external but needed to do an internal :-)

I just have boobs hurting on and off, the tiredness, and now nausea is building. I’ve gagged a few times but not been sick. I’m also definitely off some foods. I keep getting wind and slight back ache 😂 How about you?

lamby12 · 19/03/2021 16:49

Thanks @AmyFr have you had many other symptoms up to now? It's worrying when you have symptoms like pain isn't it but then worrying when you don't!

Was your scan just external or did they have to do internal?

@Absy oh that’s good you start in a month! Hopefully also with more things to distract you as things open, and I hope counselling helps too. I don’t think it can hurt to have things in place. Your hormones will be in overdrive too so you need to look after yourself.

@lamby12 bless you! That’s good! Yay to 3 weeks plus!

Yes, so relieved! You can even see a very tiny little tadpole shape on the scan pic!
I’m just exhausted. Emotionally but also physically now. I remember this tiredness...

Sending you all hugs 🤗

lamby12 · 19/03/2021 16:19

Sounds like you are in a good place looking forwards @Absy everything crossed for good luck for you. Is this your first cycle of ivf?

I have a scan booked 1 week today, 6 weeks, so that's my next milestone mentally. I just hope beyond hope I get there. I'm feeling so nervy and twitchy because as we know it can all be taken from us at any second. I did a CBD weeks indicator this morning and it said 3+ which is good because one week prior was 2-3 weeks so I hope I'm past the stage of a risk of a chemical now... hopefully. But there is still early miscarriage of course. Just hoping and praying whilst trying not to think about it....!

I’m starting in about a month so I’m going to try and be really healthy and what not, get my body ready for IVF and pregnancy. I’m also going to see if I can start seeing a counsellor again. I was seeing one (different issue) when I had the miscarriage, and she suggested coming back when I start IVF as it can trigger so many memories.

@lamby12 I hope you get to feel a bit less anxious once you pass the date. Are you able to have an early scan?

@AmyFr that must be such a relief! Hope you’re feeling good

lamby12 · 18/03/2021 17:06

Hi @Absy so pleased with your scan result that's excellent news, you must be delighted!!! Was in just an external scan or internal to see the heartbeat?
I am due to have the first scan a week tomorrow which will be 6 weeks. I'm going to check with them if they will do internal if they can't see everything (it's private) otherwise I'll just be worrying if it can't be confirmed.

We had the consultant appointment today. She as very helpful and obviously I hope we don't need to see her again to start ivf but everything is ready if we do. I'm taking some tiny tiny comfort from knowing the back up plan is ready. She didn't advise the pessaries for progesterone. She explained that in ivf when they take the eggs out the body's progesterone drops because the eggs are gone, that's why they give it artificially in ivf to put the balance back. She said there isn't any evidence of benefit giving it outside ivf so I am happy to go along with that.

Just aiming for the next milestone of the scan next Friday now, I really hope we get there.

Such good news on your scan, you must be delighted. X

Hi @Absy that’s good you have a date. It must have been hard to go through it all with the nurse though. Thinking of you. It is such a difficult process (understatement!). I hope you’re doing ok.

@lamby12 how are you today? How did the consultant appointment go? And it’s normal to feel nervous when a key date pops up. At least you are past yesterday now. 🤗

I had my scan - 6 weeks and 3 days... there’s a little heartbeat and everything looks fine! Which is SUCH a relief! I had a little cry when they showed me and the sonographer printed off a picture of the little bean / blob! So fingers crossed all continues to go well. I’ve not had any more spotting so that’s good.

lamby12 · 17/03/2021 07:39

Hi @Absy

I think so, I get to speak to the consultant tomorrow about them. This is the consultant we're planning IvF with - I kept the appointment in in case things end early as you have to wait months for each one. Anyway I find it odd that she's says she doesn't believe they work as I also thought this is what they give during IVF. When I asked about medication, I just meant whatever they give to support early pregnancy in IVF because she spoke about this as one of the benefits of IVF. Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it tomorrow.

When is your date for IVF? How are you feeling about it?
Obviously if my current pregnancy doesn't work out then I'll have to wait for things to return to normal but I'll take some comfort in knowing everything is as ready as it can be for IVF.

Today is the day I miscarried in the last pregnancy, it started about lunchtime. I'm feeling super nervy today which is know doesn't make much sense! X

Hey, just checking in

@lamby12 are they cyclogest? It’s something that they routinely prescribe if you have IVF to take them after the embryo transfer to around 12 weeks.

@AmyFr I hope you manage to distract yourself! It’s exhausting being constantly on edge

I now have a date for IVF which is good news. I got quite emotional with the nurse explaining that I was on the same protocol and why I was going through everything again.

AmyFr · 16/03/2021 17:47

@lamby12 I think do what you want to do in your gut. If they don’t do harm, then it can’t hurt, but see what the consultant says. It might depend on levels in different women.

Thanks. I am trying (and failing) to chill out. I was so calm and blissfully unaware of all of this in my first pregnancy... 🤦‍♀️

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 16:49

@Icklemissgem sorry on the pessaries I should have said SHE BELIEVES (this particular consultant) that there is no evidence they work. Not that there is no evidence. I think lots of doctors prescribe them.

OP posts:
lamby12 · 16/03/2021 16:48

Yes I'll be the same if I get that far, I am wanting to get to Thursday at the moment as then I'm past the last miscarriage milestone (..tomorrow) and we have the consultant appointment on Thursday.

The consultant has offered to prescribe me progesterone - I think these are the pessaries that @Icklemissgem is taking? She said there is no evidence they work but they definitely do no harm so she is happy to prescribe them but we can discuss it more on Thursday. I'm not sure what to do on that - I know if it ends I'll kick myself if I didn't use them in case it could have made a difference.

I'm with DD2.5 tomorrow and planned a busy day (by busy I mean walk, baking, picking up a click and collect... a car ride... that sort of thing!) so hoping it will fly.

Hope you get chance to put your feet up @AmyFr

AmyFr · 16/03/2021 16:32

@lamby12 I was pleased to get to six weeks, foolishly thinking less stress. We will see what happens, I guess.

The GP told me not to go to work tomorrow, so I don’t have much to distract me 😂 I’ll have to find some rubbish TV while my daughter is at nursery in the morning...

Hopefully, come Thursday, it will be good news and I can relax maybe...

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 16:18

Thanks @AmyFr good news that you have a scan though yes Thursday feels an eternity! Every day does right now! Can you plan things to keep your mind off it?

I keep thinking if I get to 6 weeks and have my scan I will relax but no, 6-12 weeks is just as difficult but it's still before that 12 week point. So I can see how it's a really anxious time for you.

I haven't done the urine yet as I need to go to the docs and pic up a pot, then do it at home, then take it back... I will probably not have time to do this until Thursday but I don't have any other UTI symptoms so I'm not too worried.

Hope everything settles down for you with the cramps and fingers crossed for no more blood. X

OP posts:
AmyFr · 16/03/2021 16:12

Thanks @lamby12 hope you’re ok. I have a scan on Thursday. I have light cramps too and just so anxious now. The GP told me to rest until my scan on Thursday. It feels an eternity away.

How was your urine test? I don’t have an infection but she said there was some blood (although none visible to the naked eye). Pregnancy test blazing positive. I really hope this isn’t going to be another loss.

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 10:37

Thank @AmyFr I have spoke to the doctor this morning they weren't too worried if it is not one sided pain and as I expected no suggestion of a scan or bloods until later. They will check for a urine infection just in case.

He said it's not uncommon to get this especially with endometriosis as things shift around, as long as the pain does subside and there is no bleeding, then they wouldn't be too concerned.

So that's a bit reassuring.

Sorry you have had some spotting this morning, good news that you can get straight in at the doctors. Have you had a scan yet? They will probably send you to EPU for one which is good. X

AmyFr · 16/03/2021 10:08

@lamby12 I think people call it a “dye stealer” which is where your hormones are very high, so it’s a good sign.

Oh bless you. I have had painful wind this time. Not fun! Do antacids help? That might help you identify the cause.

I had a tiny bit of spotting when I wiped this morning so I am seeing the GP this afternoon, and really nervous. I swear this part of pregnancy is the worst. I am just over six weeks so I think they might refer me if I need to be... she said it could be due to a urine infection and wants to do my blood pressure.

Sending hugs. Hope you girls are doing ok. I’m so sorry this is going on for you both. 🤗

lamby12 · 16/03/2021 09:25

Hi hope everyone is doing ok, @Icklemissgem good luck with your blood test this morning, do you know when you'll get results?

I started a thread about my pain last night it got so bad, just kept coming in waves like contractions, a few others replied and said they had this and it was stretching/wind/constipation so maybe that. But seriously almost as bad as childbirth contractions I'm not even joking! I'm going to call the doctor today, maybe rule out a UTI and see if they'll do blood tests. I know they won't scan til 6 weeks and I have the private scan booked then anyway.

In the meantime I did a FRER this morning and I'm a bit worried as I've never seen this before... the 'pregnancy' line is really dark and the control line is barely there, is this bad like a faint positive? Or is it a dud test? Has anyone seen this before?

@lamby12

I am hoping so but she didn’t really say.

That is definitely good news. You’re not mad I would be doing exactly the same 😊 good luck!!! Keep me posted.

The GP just said the pessaries can delay the bleeding for some people but for some they would bleed straight away as normal. Not very reassuring so all I can do is wait and see what tomorrow brings.

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 16:30

@Icklemissgem that's good, will they do your hcg and then repeat to see if it's going up?

I got my test and due to being all over the place in boots I got a CBD 2 pack without the weeks indicator; I meant to get with weeks so I could see if it's the same/going up.... so the result was pregnant which is good but I don't feel totally reassured. I will probably get weeks indicator and maybe FRER tomorrow to reassure myself... like £25 quid on tests in 2 days?! Am I crazy?!

I hope you're bloods go ok, I've got fingers and toes crossed for you. Did the doctor say that the pessaries can mask any bleeding or were they quite reassuring?

@lamby12 I have bloods booked in with the Dr in the morning but guess I won't get the results for a few days so will do a FRER in the morning also.

Let me know how you get on with your test 🤞🏻
I have read symptoms come and go so try not to read too much into that xx

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 14:48

Oh I'm so sorry @Icklemissgem that you are going through this, I don't think you can assume another miscarriage yet but so sorry you are going through the uncertainty and worry. It's awful and must be worrying that you've got a faint test now. I would maybe try calling the doctor, see what they say? I suppose they will know about more about the pessaries and what effect they could be having. Given they prescribed the pessaries they might also do bloods for you?

I'm going to get a test this afternoon, I was trying to be relaxed but now I have the urge and I'm panicking. Last time my symptoms went a couple of days before and it was around this time. I only mean weak symptoms like a headache a bit of nausea - I know they don't kick off until a bit later. But still the disappearance is making me worry. X

Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 14:36

Hi @lamby12

Yes it was the same sort of test it was a FRER, it wasn’t FMU but that shouldn’t matter at this stage with a FRER as I think I should be 14dpo 😔😔 just feel gutted and only explanation I can think of for the no bleeding yet is the cyclogest.
I will take another one in the morning but I fear I already know it’ll either be negative or still faint.

Sorry to hear about your cramps, have you taken another test?
I was thinking about asking the Dr for a blood test also as feel I just want to know for sure now as this will be my 4th loss 💔

I am literally crossing everything for you xxx

lamby12 · 15/03/2021 14:26

Hi @Icklemissgem just seen your post so sorry to hear this, was it the same sort of test? I don't know anything about the pessaries I'm afraid, but f you haven't had any bleeding maybe take another test tomorrow AM? It could have been dilute urine or something.

Saying that, I'm stressing massively today because I've had bad cramps for a couple of days and now the previous symptoms I was feeling have gone. I'm worried I'm about to have my 3rd early miscarriage. I was thinking about calling the doctor to see if they do blood tests to check if hcg is rising but I don't know if they even do that or would at the moment.

Could you try asking that of your doctor?

@AmyFr thanks for your reassurance. I have my private appointment about starting IVF on Thursday and I'm keeping it in. Wednesday this week will be the day my last miscarriage started in terms of how far along so I'm feeling twitchy. Glad that your return to the classroom has gone ok. X

Icklemissgem · 15/03/2021 13:06

Can anyone help me 😞😞

I have been taking the cyclogest pessaries since I got my BFP 6 days ago, have done another test this morning and the line is so faint and definitely no darker than before so think that means this is now my 4th chemical in a row 💔
I’ve had no bleeding but presume that’s because the pessaries will delay the bleeding until I stop taking them? Anyone experienced this is the lack of bleeding because of the pessaries? X
