TTC after miscarriage

Hi just wondered if anyone had any experience of continuing TTC after miscarriage. I had a loss at 5/6 weeks recently. The bleeding has now stopped (about 3 days clear) and I'm starting to feel back to normal physically. Emotionally I'm gutted as we have been trying for so long and a few close relatives who know have said we should wait a while to recover emotionally/physically.
Whilst I agree, I've also read that you're most fertile after a miscarriage and it's taken 18months of inconsistent ovulation/low hormones for me to get pregnant. I don't want to miss what could be an increased chance when my odds are low ordinarily.
The hospital said I should wait until a normal period for dating reasons only, they said nothing about risk of infection or complications getting pregnant straight away. I have no idea when I would ovulate (if) now.
Any experience out there?

@Mummyto1crazy1 oh what an awful time you've had. I'm so sorry. Going to A&E is stressful at the best of times but especially at the moment and especially about something that's still so upsetting. I'm really really sorry that you're having such an awful time with things.

It sounds like things are taking such a long time and I can imagine you are just desperate for it to be over now. Fingers crossed you don't have too long to go, but yes it's frustrating that you can't move on yet. Really feel for you. Look after yourself as much as you can.

I'm trying to keep myself busy in the TWW (is it only one day since yesterday?!) I feel like in my head because I've read and heard so much about success after miscarriage it has to be our month but that's a dangerous mentality (in terms of disappointment) so I need to bring myself down a bit over the next week...ready for AF.

Sending good luck to everyone. X

@CookieMonster3001 it really was awful, I was in shock when they sent me away from a&e, I was told I could wait in a&e or wait in my car but that I would still have to wait on EPU so I might aswell wait in car, it was horrendous yesterday but now today I'm glad I went home within the 3 hours and was able to pass the brunt of it at home and shower before going back, I'm so drained from all the blood loss, I wasnt expecting to bleed for this amount of days, cant wait to get to the end of it, I'm hopeful and looking forward to hearing everyone's progress and hopefully some rainbow babies, I thought I would be following along about a week behind but will be longer now, all ur progress is giving me great hope :) xox

CookieMonster3001 · 13/01/2021 13:43

@Mummyto1crazy1 oh my gosh you poor thing that's horrible!! I cannot believe you had to wait 3 hours when you were bleeding so much! Hopefully 1cm is not much now and the bleeding will slow down soon. I cant believe you have been bleeding for so long! Big hugs!! Defo I have found MN such a safe space to vent and talk about frustrations so no need to apologise!

A massive congrats hopefulmummie, wishing u a smooth 9 months, it really is amazing news and hopefully they can give u an early scan for reassurance.

I have 2 in laws that both got pregnant straight after a miscarriage and now have 2 beautiful boys, they didn't even get a period after miscarriage, so I totally agree that If the bleeding has stopped and u get a negative, as long as ur mentally ready then go for it:) and good luck.

I ended up in a&e yesterday and the EPU, had a massive bleed out, I was literally standing in a&e bleeding extremely heavy and was told to phone EPU, and when I did they couldn't see me for 3 hours so was told to go to my car and wait, we live 30 mins drive away, so by the time my partner drove me home, I was saturated in blood, my Jean's and the towel beneath me were soaked through, I passed something the size of a lemon, showered then back over to EPU, I still have 1cm thick of lining to come out, and could take 10 days, I'm already into day 13 of bleeding and now another 10, was also told to wait 2 weeks after the bleeding stops to test and make sure I get a negative and to have blood done to check my iron because of the blood loss, I feel like there is no end in sight, the process has been so long, from finding out on the 29th dec and still more to go, feels like it will still be so long to start trying again, :(

Sorry about the length of this post but it really does help to get it all of my chest xox

lamby12 · 13/01/2021 12:07

@RBCoxie how nice that EPU checked up on you! They seem great, when I rang to ask about symptoms a few days after they were lovely.

It's annoying nobody can give a straight answer isn't it, abut trying straight after. Everything I've read says it just because of dating, but if you're somebody with low fertility that's been trying for ages you really really don't care whether the dating will be accurate if there's a chance of being more fertile. Right?!

@Hopefulmummie amazing news, so pleased for you and got everything crossed that this is your successful pregnancy. Lots of good vibes to you.

@CookieMonster3001 great you have your peak!!! Wooo finally :)

@Hopefulmummie that's exciting! Please let us know how it progresses and fingers crossed a healthy 9 months for you

Hopefulmummie · 13/01/2021 10:37

Hey just thought I'd give an update.
I rang my GP today to see if they would do bloods to confirm a new pregnancy. He said blood tests wouldn't be any more reliable than a pregnancy test so to just take it that I'm pregnant again if I'm getting a positive result. I done another test today and it's far darker so think that's me settled :)
GP is going to make a referral to EPU to see if they would do an early scan.

I hope you all get your rainbow babies soon :)

CookieMonster3001 · 13/01/2021 10:16

Guess what ladies, I finally got my peak!!! Yipee!!! Planning on DTD tonight and tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

@lamby12 oh I feel for you!! The TWW is torture!

@RBCoxie that's really lovely of your EPU to check up on you! Personally I think they just say that as it makes life easier for them in regards to dating a pregnancy. I have not really found any evidence to support why you cant try again (unless you had complications during miscarriage), so I really just think its when you feel comfortable to start again. As long as you are testing negative and you are no longer bleeding, then you should be fine.

RBCoxie · 12/01/2021 21:27

@CookieMonster3001 totally get it! I'd be exactly the same - I'd usually be ovulating this Sunday-Tuesday but I think it's going to be later. Hopefully you ovulate soon - I hate how it's all just a waiting game!

@lamby12 thank you so much! I'm still bleeding and very low OPKs so I think it'll still be a while.

Tbh it's really good to talk to people who are in a similar situation. I had a call from the EPU today to check in (really lovely of them to do that!) and I asked the question again - they still advised to wait but couldn't really give me any concrete reason why. Instead it was 'you'll still be testing positive' (I'm not - I've had a negative test) and 'your hormones will be all over the place so you want to give your body the best chance you can for next time'. I just wish there was concrete advice either way!

lamby12 · 12/01/2021 21:15

I've been feeling sicky and so tired today. I know it's too early for any actually hcg induced symptoms but I can't help overthinking it 🙈

OP posts:
lamby12 · 12/01/2021 20:57

@Hopefulmummie that looks like a positive to me. Everything crossed for you. I would doubt it could be left over hcg by now but I get why you're cautious. If you don't want to call the docs maybe like someone else said do a CBD for the weeks?
Have you been feeling any different?

@Mummyto1crazy1 & @Emmav2020 I hope both of your bleeding has eased off now and you're feeling ok.

And @CookieMonster3001 & @RBCoxie hope you're feeling a bit closer to ovulating.

I'm only 3dpo today but I feel like time has pretty much stopped. Maybe this will be the worst TWW ever!!!!!

OP posts:
CookieMonster3001 · 12/01/2021 13:21

@Hopefulmummie congratulations! You cannot deny that, maybe worth getting in touch with the dr to confirm and put your mind at ease?

@RBCoxie yep totally understand how you feel, especially when all you want to do is get going again! Feeling like that right now with my ovulation. CD16 and still no sign of anything! Would have normally ovulated 4 days ago. Fingers crossed I get something in the next couple of days.

RBCoxie · 12/01/2021 08:43

@CookieMonster3001 ah that's really useful to know - thank you! I think I'm going to do the same thing. I'm still super light today - never has a bleed this light before! Driving me insane. On day 10 of bleeding now - I know it's not a lot in the grand scheme of things and people have it worse but I just want it to stop! Yeah I've heard good things about conceive plus too - think both of them are really useful.

@Hopefulmummie there's definitely a line there! Could you get some of the clear blue digital ones with the weeks and test over the next couple of weeks - if the number of weeks increases, it'll definitely be a new pregnancy.

Hopefulmummie · 12/01/2021 06:33

Morning everyone. Took tests again this morning hoping for a darker line... It's slightly darker than yesterday but part of me still doubts this is a new pregnancy. I know it probably is but I can't shake the doubts

CookieMonster3001 · 11/01/2021 19:50

@lamby12 hopefully!! We will find out soon enough, but it could just be my body playing tricks on me! Who knows!

@Hopefulmummie I am sorry for your loss!! I can defo see the lines on both of those! Fingers crossed this is a sticky bean for you!!

@RBCoxie Yep I waited for about 2 or 3 days after the spotting stopped. Timing for me was quite well actually as my spotting stopped on Sunday and I had a scan booked in on Monday to check everything had passed (which it had), we then went on to DTD on the Wednesday. I was super nervous about an infection, but have been absolutely fine! I heard good things about pre-seed, but I opted for conceive plus, and the first time I used it was the cycle we also fell pregnant so we have continued to use it!

@Mummyto1crazy1 oh you poor thing, that sounds so horrible. I really hope the bleeding stops soon for you. I would wait until the bleeding finishes and then do a HCG test to make sure its negative and then just start tracking your ovulation from then.

@Emmav2020 I am so sorry you are also going through the same thing. I hope you both start feeling a bit better soon and the bleeding slows down and stops.

Emmav2020 · 11/01/2021 19:15

@Mummyto1crazy1i thankfully staryed bleeding Thursday and its easing of slightly now so not been to long. Yes i was the same on sat i rang my sister to come round as i felt faint dizzy and sick. Been on the sofa ever since. Xx

Mummyto1crazy1 · 11/01/2021 19:09

@Emmav2020 it sounds like we are on the same path atm, unfortunately.. I was the same on sat, it was horrific, I was close to having to go to hosp, I'm hoping the bleeding stops soon, I think 11 days is enough, I'm so fed up of it, that's good u have a scan on friday so u can be sure everything is okay and there is nothing left over that could cause infection, I think I'm going to wait until I get a negative also, I'm going to take tests every couple of days so can monitor if the line gets fainter, xox

Emmav2020 · 11/01/2021 18:58

@Mummyto1crazy1 im in your exact situation now, still bleeding from the misscarriage. Huge clots on sat and scan booked for this friday morning. I nearly passed out sat morning from all the blood. Im also 31 and have a son who is 11. Im not going to DTD till after I've got a negative. Any supplements your taking? X

Mummyto1crazy1 · 11/01/2021 18:28

A little update ladies, I have been bleeding since the 1st Jan, found out on the 29th dec it was a blighted ovum, on sat passed it was awful, I felt like I was in labour, and was toilet bound for almost 2 hours, so def think that the sac passed, I'm still bleeding and have another few large clots, I have no idea how to estimate ovulation cause of bleeding for this amount of time, I should now be 13weeks pregnant, i cant help but wish the miscarriage happened earlier cause it feels like so much time wasted when I could be trying again, I do have the tests for ovulation but I never got a peak before, ohh and I'm 31 and been trying for 13 months for baby number 2, DS has just turned 3.

I really hope u ladies get ur positive soon, and I hope the TWW goes by super quick for u :)

Thanks for all the advice ladies, it's so nice to have so much support on here.xox

RBCoxie · 11/01/2021 17:24

@Hopefulmummie I totally understand feeling cautious. I know I would feel exactly the same way. The fact that you've had negative tests and a darker positive test 3 weeks later is definitely a good sign - especially as the timings add up too. Tentative congratulations! x

Hopefulmummie · 11/01/2021 17:13

@eloiseislost tracked ovulated by LH tests and got my peak 2 weeks ago

Hopefulmummie · 11/01/2021 17:13

@RBCoxie @eloiseislost yeah I took multiple tests and was more or less negative. The last test I took there was a slightly visible line but was very very faint I took as negative. I can't see how the lines would be darker 3 weeks later. Yeah I will maybe contact GP to see if they would do bloods. I'm going to take another test in the morning as this were afternoon tests..I haven't even told OH yet as there is still some doubt in my head x

eloiseislost · 11/01/2021 17:10

@Hopefulmummie I'm very sorry for your loss. 💔
Did you take a pregnancy test after the bleeding stopped to make sure it's negative? And how did you track ovulation?
Your tests look definitely positive and I think it's very likely you are pregnant again! To be on the safe side though, I would contact your GP and explain and they will do bloods to determine whether it's a new pregnancy or residual HCG from the previous one. Best of luck, fingers crossed for a sticky bean! 🌈 🤞🏼❤️

RBCoxie · 11/01/2021 17:08

@CookieMonster3001 yeah the waiting is really frustrating! Hope you don't mind me asking, but did you wait for the spotting to stop too before you DTD or just the main bleeding? I'm so light now I'm not even sure it's worth me putting a pad in but OH is concerned that it's not technically fully finished.

I'm 28 and trying for baby number 1. Really good to know about the OPKs - I don't think I'll rely on them too much this time round.

I found preseed helped me - I didn't have much EWCM too and used preseed the month I fell pregnant. Going to be using it again this month for sure!

@Hopefulmummie I'm so sorry to hear about your MC - it's tough! Thjs definitely looks like a positive to me! Did you take a pregnancy test at the end of the miscarriage? I would keep testing every other day and if the lines get darker I would think you're going in the right direction! Keeping absolutely everything crossed for you!

Hopefulmummie · 11/01/2021 16:49

Hi everyone.. hope it's ok for me to join. I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago at 8 weeks. Bleeding stopped a week later and we DTD a couple of times before ovulation.. weren't overly ttc again.
So looking some reassurance I still haven't had a period. It's been 2 weeks since I ovulated as I was tracking so decided to take a pregnancy test just to see... And I'm getting lines 🙈 quite a faint line on the clear blue but darker on the strip..... I dunno if I want to believe I'm pregnant again?? eeeek. Attached a pic
