First month TTC

Hi ladies,

I’m new to this and would really appreciate your help. This is my first month TTC. I’m currently on CD4 so still middle of my period. Just wondering what helped you all conceive in your first month of trying and any tips you have. I have clearblue OPK ready and have been tracking my cycles for a which vary from 27-34 day cycles with 2 random 45 day cycles one of them being my last cycle.

Anyone else TTC this month?

Thanks in advance x

@Aubyone @Hallie91 haha it's hard not to have a strategy of some sort when you're a control freak. I started off like 'we're just casually TTC' but within a week had ordered a 50 pack of OPKs, a basel thermometer, weird baby lube that you shoot up your foof with a nozzle, and learnt more about my internal workings than I have over the past 31 years. Even my sister who's been TTC for two years didn't know what a luteal phase was.

Go hard or go home is my general attitude to these things Grin

@RadDarwazeh everything crossed for you!!

RadDarwazeh · 18/01/2021 21:34

Phew thanks for the info @PineappleSun it'll be on my AF due date which is tomorrow. Now I know if I need to piddle in the night I can! I have a two pack in case I accidentally flood one!

Haha pewpewpew 🤣

PineappleSun · 18/01/2021 21:26

Welcome ladies, the more the merrier!
Thanks @Aprilfox glad I'm giving people hope, I feel like a right lucky cow to be honest. DH keeps going around making pew pew pew noises and calling himself the one shot wonder 😝
@Kittysw things are sounding really promising for you, when is AF and when will you test?
@RadDarwazeh sending positive vibes for tomorrow, what time roughly will you test? I've got everything crossed for you 🤞it says on the tests to use your first wee if testing before AF is due but if its the day she's due or after, any wee is fine. I'd had about 6 by the time I got hold of the clearblue!

EllisRoses · 18/01/2021 21:18

I have PCOS and with my first I struggled to conceive for ages. Until I downloaded natural cycles, and I got pregnant within 5 weeks Blush it might of been a fluke but it worked so well last time I subscribed again today. I wanted to just relax and less it happen but I'm too much of a control freak too!!!

emilyylouise · 18/01/2021 20:58

@Aprilfox

Hey! I think I'm going to dtd every other day until I get my static then I'll do it every day for 2 days... I'm doing the ovulation test the same time every day and only doing it once a day as I'm trying to not get obsessed and stressed over it 😫

Hallie91 · 18/01/2021 20:42

@Aubyone I'm the same as you - everything I do is in a spreadsheet and formula of some kind - even my Christmas list gets a complicated one 😂 but this is sooo out of our control no matter how much we plan for it! 🙈

Aubyone · 18/01/2021 20:35

Oh and @Aprilfox - you sound much like me, I totally get you. So much in life (Well my life anyway) I have been able to control or at least make more certain through careful planning and prep - but this, you really can't - other than doing what you are doing getting to know your body, when you ovulate etc. I'm trying to see it as an experient with allowing some uncertainty and letting nature take its course, in my otherwise very certain life! I'm a project manager and so used to solving everything with a spreadsheet and scheduling tools - my DH has already asked whether I've made a pregnancy spreadsheet GrinBlush

RadDarwazeh · 18/01/2021 20:31

Aw thanks and welcome @Aprilfox and @EllisRoses

I'm watching a drama series on telly and gonna turn in for an early night soon.

I also have a DH who is convinced it'll happen for us in our first month TTC. Told him we would be very lucky but let's see!

Thing is I often pee in the night and I've read you're supposed to check in the morning to let your hcg build up? Ok I'm overthinking now girls. Sorry 😅

Aubyone · 18/01/2021 20:26

Evening ladies and welcome @Aprilfox, @EllisRoses and @PositiveParrot!

@melissa112 I definitely echo what the other girls have said - lots and lots of people have successful and healthy pregnancies with BMI over 30, just needs some extra care - so if you did get BFP straight away, you'd be OK - but why not see if you can lose some lbs while TTC? I've had some good success with Slimming world before and am thinking of doing it again over these first few months of TTC just to get that BMI down a bit. Good luck!

@Kittysw - these symptoms do sound v different to your usual cycle! Remind me, have you tested and when is AF due?

@RedDarwazah oh gosh I can't imagine, you must be nervous and excited - totally need a distraction though! (and good luck in the morning)

Ridiculous how excited I'm getting over all of your prospects for the month!
I'm much earlier on - CD10 - but that means I'm just getting into the actual fun week of all this! Have warned DH that I'd like to spend lots of time together this week and he's grinning like a Cheshire cat - afraid we're usually a once at the weekend sort of couple Grin

Aprilfox · 18/01/2021 20:09

@emilyylouise I kept testing 2-3 times a day until I got the static smiley as I heard the LH spike can only last a few hours and I didn't want to miss it- not sure if that was overkill!

@RadDarwazeh you can do it! Have you got anything to distract yourself with this evening?

Aprilfox · 18/01/2021 20:00

Hello everyone, this is mega late but wondering if I could join? Have been lurking for a while but feeling pretty lonely today so finally made an account!

I'm first month TTC and no idea what I'm doing but have learnt loads from reading MN and starting to get the hang of my cycle I think. I got a peak fertility on the Clear Blue OPK yesterday afternoon but temp is still low so don't think I've ovulated yet. Am CD 18 (easy to remember as got AF on 1st Jan!), a bit worried that I ovulate quite late relative to my cycle :/

I have quite an obsessive personality and like a lot of you I'm a planner so I'm enjoying reading lots and trying to feel a but more in control of something that is largely out of our control. But finding it hard to talk to anyone about it as I keep just being told that stress makes it hard to conceive. Which I'm sure is true, but I don't feel stressed about it (I feel stressed about other things, yes), I feel mostly excited and I just want to talk about it!

Would love a reminder of where everyone is this month, anyone else ovulating?

@PineappleSun massive congratulations, this has made me feel really optimistic!

emilyylouise · 18/01/2021 19:39

@RadDarwazeh

Okay thanks! This is the first time I've got the smiley face so clearly didn't ovulate last month.. only came of the pill in November so was slightly worried how long it would take to come back! Relieved it's come back sooner than I thought 😀

Kittysw · 18/01/2021 19:28

@Annabelle0852 I completely get that feeling. One of my friends just announced too. It's like your so happy for them but you can't help but feel a little sad for yourself too. I think that is a completely normal feeling though tbh.

@Hallie91 If only that was the case... We wouldn't be over here stressing about the smallest change and symptom spotting on this longest two weeks of every cycle.

@EllisRoses Hi, welcome to our lovely group :)

So... I still have no AF and I have just done my usual workout and the warm up of jogging and jumping and all sorts my boobs were so so sore. I have the exact same sports bra on and have done the exact same warm up for weeks and these boobs have never hurt. omg they were so bad. I had to hold onto them. Just picture that whilst leading the exercise group with a 9yo in it. I couldn't do anything but laugh at myself.

DizSquiz · 18/01/2021 19:24

@Hallie91

I'll give you all a laugh...

Today's the first day of my "fertile week" and we've done the deed 4 times prior to today in this cycle but I'm only cycle day 9.

My OH goes "it's been a few days, can you find out if you're pregnant now?" 😂 I think he skipped biology.

Aww bless him aha my partner is the same, he seemed to think that after first attempt I'd be 🤰🏼 he's too excited
EllisRoses · 18/01/2021 19:07

Can I join please? I have an 18 month old and we've decided today to start trying for our second. Nervous but excited Smile

Yay for flashing smile @emilyylouise

Dtd every day of flashing smile esp on the day(s) it's a static smiley.

This is what I think is right?

@annabelle0852 you aren't being silly. It's a lot to take. Like everyone and anything is announcing pregnancy lately. We will help support you here. Sending a virtual cuddle to you.

RadDarwazeh · 18/01/2021 18:03

Girls I'm testing tomorrow. Please help me stay calm. Eek.

emilyylouise · 18/01/2021 18:01

Hey everyone!

I got my first flashing smiley on the clearblue ovulation tests today!
Going forward what's my best plan of action as in do I keep testing.. when is the best time to dtd?
Never used these sticks before 🙈

Annabelle0852 · 18/01/2021 17:15

Afternoon ladies.

Feeling a bit mopey today for entirely selfish reasons.

A friend announced they are pregnant today (kept it quiet for a while as they already know the gender!) which is the third or fourth pregnancy announcement in what feels like two weeks (but probably isn't). Also, my BFF is in labour!

Meanwhile, I've got mega AF cramps and waiting for the moody b!%$h to turn up any second.

Obviously I'm really happy for everyone and super excited to meet my goddaughter. Butt... I'm a little sad, too.

Silly little problems, I know.

Kittysw · 18/01/2021 16:46

@PositiveParrot I also feel out of my depth but we will all be muddling our way through together. :) I came off my pill October last year and this is our first month properly TTC so it's still all very new.

Lets hope for a good first month for you :)

DizSquiz · 18/01/2021 16:39

@PositiveParrot welcomeSmile!

I’ve just done a frer and BFN ! I don’t know why I even did it, I was literally telling myself not to as I was doing it 🙈😂. I’m 9DPO so probably too early but also starting to think the cramps are AF. Probably out this month but we’ll see.

Kittysw · 18/01/2021 15:49

@PositiveParrot Hi and welcome to the chat :) Where about are you in your TTC journey?
