Has anyone ever got pregnant using withdrawal method?

DH and I used the withdrawal method successfully for years with the exception of the 2 times we decided to have a baby.

Fell pregnant on 1st cycle with each baby both times I think. I'm now on the copper coil purely because I was getting a lot of mid cycle ovulation pain and my OBGYN recommended it.

I wouldn't chance withdrawal method now, only because I'm 41 and another baby would be a bloody nightmare frankly.

I would definitely say the withdrawal method does not work. I have always tried to closely check my fertile 'window' but I still think it's not effective.

Do any of the PP have any advice for if the pill doesn't seem to be working for me (I am still on the pill but it's making me spot daily) but I've got a lot of anxiety regarding condoms breaking

PS relying on knowing your fertile window is no more effective than the withdrawal method. There's a reason they call it Vatican roulette.

Maybe spend 2 seconds on Google next time before proclaiming you're an expert?

That method worked for us for 3 years then it didn't. I have a now 2 year old as a result 😆

Not the point but this sounds crap for the bloke involved - so you get close to finishing, pull out and then what, have a wank? Doesn’t sound great if that’s every/most times. I’d much rather use a condom or female condom.

I have just had a quick search on google too. You can get pregnant from Precum it just says it’s a slim chance but it’s not impossible.

@Butterfly93 ohhh sorry that was my suggestion about the implant. The thing is while your having sex you won’t notice all the detail you have explained. It would be easy to get caught up and forget it was your fertile window and have sex.

Yes I got pregnant this way. Took about 3 months from when we started using this 'method'.

Would never do it again obvs!

I have to say ex h and I always used this method (15 years) and only got pregnant the 2 times that we planned it! But reading all these comments I do not think I will be carrying on this method in the future if needed!!!

Some people are so harsh with her, no need! The only times withdrawal doesn’t work, is when the man pulls out too late or too last minute and has in fact started to ejaculate even if he thinks he doesn’t. I am a nurse, I would like to break the myth: precum does NOT contain sperm, it is just impossible!! The only times it does, is if the man had an ejaculation earlier and didn’t pee when having sex again. And, the sperm wouldn’t even be fertile enough at that point either even if some remained.
OP, I would suggest to use condoms when you are in your fertile window.

Hormonal contraception is not for everyone ladies. And implant/injections ARE hormonal.

You could also look at the coil?

Yes I have and most people I know who have used it have done eventually too. I've 2 friends on baby #2 from this method and one on baby#3 so clearly not learning their lesson either. Having set with no birth control is effectively trying for a baby.

Shockingly, my GP actually suggested using the withdrawal method years ago when I was with my ex as hormonal contraceptives don't suit me and I'm allergic to latex. I used it for years without ever getting pregnant.

I started using non latex condoms after a while and stuck with those until my now DH and I were ready to have kids.

Its a massive gamble. I sympathise because I cant use hormonal contraception. We have used the pull out method quite a lot and I've never fallen pregnant from it but I have fallen pregnant twice whilst using condoms tho! And the morning after pill did not work for me.
An ex of my husbands did fall pregnant from the pull out method.
Its all a gamble dependant on your fertility levels as a couple etc
What you could look into doing to make it safer is using one of those natural cycle thermometers to work out when you arent ovulating.. it should be safer to use the pull out method whilst you arent as fertile.. but do remember theres still chance you may fall pregnant its just that there's less chance.

Yes, my SIL had her 3rd, which was a 10 lbs baby and ruined what was left of her continence. He is major cute though. If you're sure you don't want another baby then use a more reliable method (hint: since no method is 100% reliable, use two different methods).

Been doing it for over 20 years now and not one unwanted pregnancy. I do know it's not supposed to be reliable though.

Please forgive me for being of a literal frame of mind at the moment but when I read the title of this thread, "Has anyone ever got pregnant using the withdrawal method?", my first thought was that surely the idea of the withdrawal method is to avoid pregnancy.

I think it isn't a reliable method though some people seem to manage. Why don't you try a diaphragm? Properly used that is more reliable than coitus interruptus.

It's worked thus far for me! I may be the anomaly, I'm not sure, but I've no pregnancy just using the pull out method.

It took me about 30 seconds to find this from an NHS site from google:-

1. The withdrawal method is not reliable.

It is said that the the withdrawal method or “pulling out” is probably better than doing nothing, and this is probably true.

However, the risk of it not working is about 22% which means that about 1 in every 5 women relying on withdrawal will become pregnant.

Also, sperm can live in pre-cum so any penis to vagina contact is risky.
