Hi, I'm looking for advice from women who have had or trying to get pregnant after 40. I'm 42 and just had my implant removed. AF just arrived so after this will be our first month actively TTC but I'm worried it just won't happen for us. I don't want to pressure on either of us but I know I'm becoming obsessive already. Does anyone have any advice/experince/similar concerns

I was 44 in January and am 37+6 weeks pregnant. If you're 42 in all honesty prepare yourself for miscarriage before a successful pregnancy (although you may be very lucky!!) I personally had 3 miscarriages ages 42 and 43 before this pregnancy - and being in a few over 40s groups have observed that this is common. Good luck!!

I gave up with predictors as kept getting positive but didn’t conceive (except once which was a chemical )

I think I missed it this month as dp was away till cd13 and I felt v aham frisky on about cd9-11

My last dd I conceived with one bd on cd9 in a cycle lol

I delivered my first just before my 40th and my third just before my 43rd. Used those fertility predictor things with each. All boys. Read that are marginally more likely to have boys if you conceive at the start of ovulation rather than the end.

Anyway, good luck. It's definitely distinctly likely you will get pregnant

Do lots of relaxing things you enjoy too. Apparently acupuncture does help conception - and placebo acupuncture (randomly inserting needles) is as good as 'real' acupuncture - probably just because it makes the women feel relaxed. So anything relaxing and calming should help.

My close friend is currently 18 weeks pregnant at 45. It was a long and tough route getting there though... years of TTC followed by three cycles of IVF (one ended in early miscarriage and one unsuccessful). She has a 23 year old daughter already!

I was trying for about 7 years.

As I said, I had periods of up to 18 months where nothing happened while actively trying.
Then I had 5 miscarriages

Eventually worked out.

Yes! Good to chat on here so as not to be like mad women ranting on about babies to partners hahaha

I feel quite unhopeful about it as for a while I was doing ovulation tests and getting smiley face but then nothin that cycle. So I have now stopped all that and am trying to be more pragmatic about it

And no I never thought would be broody afrrr my 3rd!!

Hi Kirinm and Pickypolly Thanks for your answers. Hope this isn't too personal but how long have you been trying? I have 2 older children nearly 17 and 21 from a previous relationship. It was easy getting pregnant with them. Hoping it will be the same this time but I know this may not be the case. I am nervous this time around and I feel we may run out of time.
We've been trying around 8-9 months now. Have had two chemical pregnancies in that time.

Geriatric Mum is awful isn't it!!! I didn't think I'd be having more children but like you I have a new partner, he has no children and will be an awesome Dad!! I just hope my body doesn't let us down. I also need a place to chat, I don't want to get on his nerves talking babies all the time.....

Hiiii I was going to start a thread re this !

I am even more geriatric and am resigned to fact it ain’t gonna happen for me BuT while I still have regular periods I guess I will hold out hope !

I’m 47 and have three children v easily conceived in my late 20s and 30s (last one a happy accident at 37)))

I took my copper coil out 8 months ago expecting to conceive and all have had is a chemical pg in that time (

I’m so broody ! It’s with a new partner and so would love a bub with him )

I was 43 and conceived.

This followed long periods of infertility interspersed by multiple miscarriages.

You will no doubt we aware of the strong possibility of these scenarios over the 40 mark.

Good luck. It could be a rocky road ahead.

I'm 42 and trying again. We do have a DD who is 2 (had her at 40) and I also have an older son I had when I was young.

I don't have any good news stories (yet) but I know there are plenty of us who are 40+ trying on MN.
