Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice to buy 'it starts with an egg' - I have a copy now and am already half way through.

Just wondering where you get your ubiquinol from, and if you wouldn't mind sharing links? I looked it up on Pharma Nord's website and it's quite expensive!

Thanks x

@GingerFox2021 not sure I understand you exactly - I started taking 2 tests a day from cd12 both were ‘high’ but not peak and then the next morning on CD13 it was my peak. So in theory I ovulated anytime from CD13 onwards. You can use them as a guide without temping - just make sure there is lots of BD around the highest and peak reading - but keep going for a day or so after your peak!

GingerFox2021 · 15/05/2021 22:50

Thank you @Honey2, so would that mean that using these opks for the first time will be no help? As I understand you need to know the pattern .. cause looking at your CD 12 I would have thought that your peak would be next morning. It was still light pink line.
I am not temping as I don’t have really a sleeping pattern and wake up at different times at night and mornings. I fall asleep again but drink water, need toilet etc so probably this wouldn’t work.

Honey2 · 15/05/2021 22:34

@GingerFox2021 as I understand it the only way to completely confirm ovulation is to chart your temp at the same time each morning. Most women ovulate 12-36 hrs after a peak opk. Once you’ve ovulated Your temp will rise (by around 0.3 degrees c) - so my temp readings were hovering around 36.2/36.3 before ovulation and then the morning after ovulation rose to 36.5 and continued to climb to 36.7 over the next couple of days. Having charted for a few months I know I normally ovulate either on the day or my peak opk or the day after. I think if you don’t temp best think to do is DTD in the days leading up to your peak (where the line on the test is dark but not as dark as the test line) and then do it o. Your peak day and the day (or two!) after.

Hope that helps!

Yes@Honey2 managed to dtd during my fertile days fingers crossed xx

Thank you for sharing this @Honey2
I have used only CB for the first cycle, so not sure how these opks work. So when you got peak on CD13- does it mean you ovulated in the morning or between morning and evening? I got the opks to try too this month, but still don’t fully understand how to know when they show ovulation. Thank you.

Honey2 · 15/05/2021 18:38

@October1979 here’s my opk tests from this month so you can see how it looks...

@October1979 sorry missed your other question . It’s the Femometer app. I only use it for tracking opk results and now hcg - you can take a photo and it intelligently reads the opk result as low high or peak. For the hcg test though it is still reading ‘negative’ so not so good for that - but you can manually correct to positive. I use it alongside FF for tracking my temps.

Honey2 · 15/05/2021 18:32

@October1979 I’m 12 DPO today. Hoping that since it’s gone from pink to brown then as you say it’s not fresh bleeding. 🤞🤞

Did you manage to DTD on your fertile days?? Fingers crossed for us both for January babies!

October1979 · 15/05/2021 17:03

@Honey2 what's the test picture app you are using I've never seen that before? Looks useful for comparing tests

@Honey2 I'm good. I think I ovulated cd19 this month. Got my peak on Thursday so think my 2WW starts today. Don't know if the CP last cycle messed with my cycle or my Covid jab. But at least I've had my peak. Fingers crossed xx

@Honey2 that looks like a strong healthy line! That is much darker than mines was with CP last cycle. I know it's nerve wracking but stay positive. I think it looks very good. They say brown spotting is old blood and not to worry. How many dpo are you now? Xx

@October1979 so kind of you to ask, ok I think - did another FRER today and line was definitely darker but not as dark as the test just yet. Sorry I’ve only got a screen grab from my Femometer app. I’ve nervous as hell though. I’ve had spotting on and off - only very slight on wiping. Had some 9 and 10 dpo (pink) nothing yesterday and then a tiny bit this morning (brown) praying it’s still just implantation bleeding. I know it’s in the lap of the gods but can’t help but worry. Do have sore nips and mild nausea though too. I’m going to get a couple of clear blue digital and do one on Tuesday (due date) hopefully it will be 2-3.

How are you doing?

birdbybird · 15/05/2021 14:57

Hello people,
I’ve booked myself in for dose number one of the Covid vaccine next week.
Currently 4dpo. Tww sucks :(

October1979 · 15/05/2021 13:25

How are you getting on @Honey2 did you do a second test? How's the line progression. Hope you are doing well x

Thanks @Geriatric1234

Can I ask how you booked the progesterone test? xx

Honey2 · 14/05/2021 21:42

@Geriatric1234 thanks for the info, really useful.

@birdbybird thanks! I was temping and using opks to time BDing and then DTD on the 3 days running up to ovulation and ovulation day as well. (Thank god I ovulated on day 4 as we were running out of energy!!) I’ve also been taking ubiquanol, D3 and extra folic acid as well as standard pregnacare. So nothing to unusual... crossing everything that this is a good egg!

Geriatric1234 · 14/05/2021 18:54

PSA: so after my period was weirdly 5 days early, i did some investigating and it turns out the Covid vaccine can cause that to happen. It has no impact on fertility/pregnancy of TTC stats, but because your womb is part of the immune system it can cause your period to be early/late/heavy. I was freaking out about menopause and now have progesterone test booked and paid for 🤣

In case any of you have similar experience and freak out (like I did). Xxx

Congratulations@Honey2.
Any tips for what you did this month?

Honey2 · 14/05/2021 13:36

@GingerFox2021 sorry it wasn’t your month. Fingers crossed for next one.

@Miller2021 thank you!

Miller2021 · 14/05/2021 10:52

Omg @Honey2 congratulations! What fabulous news, fingers firmly crossed for you - lovely to see a positive test on this thread, it gives me hope! x

Marvellouslymadmum · 14/05/2021 09:16

@October1979 it's really tough to keep up, we've not managed the whole month yet! Got a feeling this month won't be the one as starting my fw today and dtd last night but I have a smear on Tuesday, oh has his sa on Thursday so have to abstain for a few days before and I have my second jab on Saturday 🙄

October1979 · 13/05/2021 22:32

@Honey2 I've tried checking my cervix but like you I'm never sure xx

Honey2 · 13/05/2021 22:18

@October1979 thanks! Fingers crossed it sticks.
Glad you finally got a peak opk, sending baby dust! Do you ever check your cervix as a clue to fertile period? I tried but was never sure what I was feeling!!
