Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

All good signs @Bouncytree sounds promising for you. Well done on not early testing. The 1st is Thursday so not far away. Fingers crossed for all three of us @Catconfusion @Bouncytree . My AF is due on the 1st as always have an 11 day luteal phase. My cycle should be 29days this month as didn't ovulate until day 18. Which is 5 days later than normal. It has been 25/26 days for the past 8 months. I always used to ovulate about day16/17 before my mmc in February. Maybe my body is just getting back to normal? Funny enough it was Christmas last year when I conceived. I'm hoping December is my month. My boob sensitivity was strong this morning but not so much now. Does it change? Saliva still there. Fingers crossed for us girls xx

@Catconfusion thanks for the positive thoughts. As long as you are DTD every couple of days you are covered. Yes I’ve fallen off the wagon with my healthy diet over Xmas...but with the year that is in it...it just had to be done. I’ll be back to the fish and olive oil in Jan! So true in relation to FRER. It’s hard going trying to PG when you have a toddler isn’t it! 😅 when are you due AF?

Oh fingers crossed @October1979 really hoping it’s your month too 🤞🤞🤞 it’s been a tough road for you. Sounding positive. Do you normally get pms symptoms? When are you due AF?

I Havnt caved to FRER yet but still on my mind! releaved boobs are still sore here. I woke this morning and not so much, but it seems to increase through the day. Had surges in my arm pits Lying on the couch last night. Quite tired though that could be anything, slight edge of nausea but not much. Though I’ve had a few twinges and pulls in my tummy, and no pms cramps which ive had last few months. Just Quick stabby pain 5dpo and then cramps in lower tummy, moved to sides and under ribs. All very strange and totally getting my hopes up!

When is the 1st?? Come on already 😭

Catconfusion · 29/12/2020 16:18

Thanks @October1979 we will see.

The excess saliva is definitely an early pregnancy symptom. I got nausea really early too. I’ve got my fingers crossed for you! Xx

October1979 · 29/12/2020 15:34

Thanks @Catconfusion. You never know your luck, so many positives come from just one or two tries. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. I feel quite nauseous from the excess saliva today. Also boobs a bit more sensitive. Please let this be my month. How you doing today @Bouncytree? Any new symptoms? Have you succumbed to the frer?

Hey ladies, I’ve got everything crossed for you. The symptoms sound really promising. It’s so difficult to get through the tww. Frers are such a double edged sword. I got a positive on one with ds at 10dpo. It was lovely knowing but terrifying as very early.

I’m on cycle day 18 which is the day I ovulated last cycle. We dtd on Sunday and had planned to this morning but ds is going through a sleep regression so he’s in bed with me and DH is on the sofa. I’m not tracking LH as I’ve got false positives in the past. I’m thinking we’ll just dtd tonight and maybe in a couple of days. I don’t think our chances are great this cycle. I plan to properly track next cycle. Tbh I really want to lose a bit more weight. Christmas hasn’t helped with that. It obviously would be amazing if we were lucky and caught quick but I’d feel more confident going into another pregnancy at a healthier weight,

I really do hope you both get some good news soon! Xx

October1979 · 28/12/2020 22:38

I know what you mean @Bouncytree it is so disappointing when you get your hopes up only to get a big fat negative! I'm rooting for us. Here's to 2021! I'll be sanding something else tomorrow to help the time pass

OP posts:
Bouncytree · 28/12/2020 22:33

Hi @October1979 glad you are doing well. I don’t think excess saliva is a common pms symptom.😯 Lol sanding the table to busy your mind thatS hilarious! But I totally get it. Time is the enemy in the TWW isn’t it.all sound positive your end so far.

I’m feeling quite hopeful this month. I just can’t trust my body after the last few months pms. Though this does feel different. I’ve learned that you just can’t let yourself believe you are PG till u see a positive test. It’s too hard if neg.

Oh wouldn’t it be wonderful if we got bfps on the first! Come on 2021! Fingers crossed for us both.

October1979 · 28/12/2020 22:24

Hi @Bouncytree I'm doing well. Slightly sensitive boobs. But lots of excess saliva. I noticed this the last time so hoping it's a positive sign. Unsure if this is a sign of period or pregnancy? I can talk myself into anything!!! Too much time to think too. I sanded the dining table to keep my mind off things. I'm trying to hold out to the 1st too to test. This will be me 12dpo too. Part of me thinks if there are strong symptoms then you have a chance of a positive. Let's hope this month is our month.

OP posts:
Bouncytree · 28/12/2020 22:11

@October1979 yes it is hard not to overthink it isn’t it.

Boob pain getting stronger here...and us in my armpits too which has happened when I was PG before. They are really quite sore.
This really does feel quite distinct. I’ve toyed with the idea of a FRER but I just don’t want know early...though it is driving me mad! I keep thinking I am PG...but of course the opposite is probably lord possible! Definitely getting my hopes up now, though I keep trying to climb down off that...so awful when you see BFN.

When are you testing? I’m going to test on 1st which is 12dpo. It is totally dragging now! And I’ve too much time to think about it!

Hope your doing ok

October1979 · 27/12/2020 12:15

Hi @Bouncytree I'm doing fine. Totally symptom spotting too. I've felt a bit nauseous- but that could be down to the over eating. I've also felt that I've had a lot of saliva for the past few days. Slightly sensitive boobs but nothing out of the normal for this point in cycle (7dpo). Trying not to over think and get carried away. But can't help it.

How is everyone doing? I hope the Christmas break has lent some welcome distraction.

@Catconfusion did you find your OPK peak?

@October1979 how is your TWW?

I’m Having some suspicious symptoms! Cramps at 5dpo and then strangest cramps at 6dpo along the sides of my tummy and under my ribs. Trying Really hard not to let me thoughts run away with me! 🙈Last 3 months I’ve had very early pms cramps and nausea so I have to err on the cautious side. 😬 but it’s so odd it’s totally getting my hopes up. Little bit of blood when I blow my nose too, which I get when PG but could be a coincidence.

Tempted to get a FRER but also scared to, never a good idea to know to early and also they are so confusing as U can’t tell if just to early.

Catconfusion · 21/12/2020 19:47

Good luck ladies. We dtd for the first time in ages this morning so gearing up O which I think will be in about a weeks time. I can’t tell precisely as opks give false positives for me sometimes. I can’t find my basal thermometer either so might just dtd every couple of days and see what happens. Don’t really want to pay for Ovusense just yet. My last cycle was 35 days which is short for me so I’m hoping I continue like this. Tracking got a bit stressful last time so I might just wing it and hope for the best. Xx

October1979 · 21/12/2020 18:06

Good effort @Bouncytree. Fingers crossed for you. I ovulated yesterday too so we are in sync. I'm due AF on the 31st. Happy symptom spotting

Hi @October1979 wel funny you should mention 😆 Yes Just into the TWW. OPK peak sat, so likely ovulated Sunday. Done with DTD for the month, can relax now 😅 did every 2 days for 6 days in lead up to ovulation.

TMI but Lots of CM at the moment, normally go quite dry after ovulation. So of course at 1 dpo I already thinking I could be PG 🤣🤦‍♀️🤣🤦‍♀️🤣🤦‍♀️🤣

Not due AF till 1st of Jan...that does feel like a year away!

How are you getting on?

October1979 · 20/12/2020 19:46

How is everyone getting on?@Bouncytree are you in you 2ww. Any symptoms

Thanks everyone I will speak to my gp about this. I'm currently going through blood tests to check things anyway.

Catconfusion · 19/12/2020 21:06

@October1979 it seems only just in the short range but it might be worth discussing with the doctor. As you said, you got pregnant before so maybe not an issue for you. I don’t know much about short luteal phases. Mine is really long at 17 days and I was really worried that would have a negative impact but apparently it’s ok. Xx

waitinggame108 · 19/12/2020 20:50

@October1979 this may be helpful : www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5337433/

It states no difference at 12 months vs 6 months in terms of conception, but it does have an affect on fertility from 11 days and less. I would speak to your doctor and ask for your progesterone levels checked.

Bouncytree · 19/12/2020 20:47

@October1979 it’s pretty normal
For ovulation to vary every now and then. There is a complex chain of events that needs to happen and sometimes one bit is a little delayed. I ovulated late a couple of months ago and it meant my period was pushed a couple of days as well.

October1979 · 19/12/2020 13:07

My luteal phase is consistently 11 days. Even when I fell pregnant and had mmc at 9 weeks. Stopped developing at 8 1/2 weeks. Do you think 11 days is too short?

OP posts:
waitinggame108 · 19/12/2020 12:32

@October1979 Sorry to butt in but I believe you need minimum of 12 days of a luteal phase for the egg to implant. Some pregnancies need just 10 but less than 12 can cause recurring miscarriages. Doctors can prescribe progesterone to lengthen it so worth a referral if you haven't already.

Catconfusion · 19/12/2020 12:26

Also @October1979 it’s extra vitamin c for a shorter luteal phase. Xx

Catconfusion · 19/12/2020 12:23

@October1979 honestly I don’t think it matters how long the egg has to develop if it’s a healthy egg. Although my friend has fertility issues and she ovulates on day 8/9 and was told egg isn’t developed enough. My ds was conceived on day 34 due to my crazy irregular cycles and I was worried I’d lose him due to the egg hanging around for too long. My doctor told me to not worry about when the egg is released as long as it’s released. So as long as not super early it’s probably fine.

The length of time from ovulation to a period does matter though as the embryo needs time to implant. If it’s 10 days or less it can affect fertility. That’s why temping is useful as you can see precisely when ovulation happened and make sure you have 11 plus days for implantation. With ageing the luteal phase can get shorter so it’s worth checking out. Xx

October1979 · 19/12/2020 10:55

I wonder if ovulating a couple of days later day 17 instead of 14 will give the egg longer to develop? Maybe a better chance of egg quality? Any thoughts. Or do you think it's just down to age and getting older
