Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

Sorry first time posting on here....so not sure of all the abbreviations ! I’m 41 and TTC with baby no.3 I’m with a new partner......my youngest daughter is 14 so quite an age gap and a lot has changed (my gosh the price of Prams for one 😱)

I know my sister took a year with each of hers to fall pregnant !

Just wanted to say you’re not alone in your forties ! I’d say if you’re concerned speak to your GP. I fell straight away with my last two bit this one is taking a little longer but 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

@Honey2 my chart looks a bit like this, got a dip before my peak then slow rise and ff eventually changed ov day to the day after peak so likely you're ovulating today, I've had pains in both sides before though interestingly enough none at all this month! Re the daddies family, she prob gets pregnant each time whilst still extra fertile from the last, plus they are clearly both super fertile anyway 🙄 I can't imagine having that many children!!

@Honey2 happy birthday for Saturday! I'd say your body is either trying to ovulate or it may be tomorrow, unless you have the same issue with me with the opk strips and can't get a decent reading on them! I hate that I just turned 42 and that's an oap on the ttc terms but I'm over it a bit now lol

@Ronnyrambler @Marvellouslymadmum Yes! That was me! I’ve really looked into AMH and it means pretty much nothing unless the value is zero if you are trying to conceive naturally. It’s ALWAYS going to be low at our age but a long as it isn’t 0 that means you still have eggs left. It also doesn’t give any indication at all about quality, you may have less eggs left than a 30 year old, but if you’re healthy and genetically lucky, they may be better quality!

It’s a useful test to have to know you’re still fertile, but it’s important to those trying to conceive naturally is MASSIVELY exaggerated. My sister is pregnant at 39 with an AMH of 2.3, and she got pregnant 2nd cycle after chemotherapy for breast cancer!

Have you had your follicle count done?

I’ma broken record with this, but I swear this is just all about being patient and playing roulette for the good egg. That book is a great place to start - I do all the supplements!

I was 41 when I had my youngest and luckily conceived straight away like I had with all the others. I think there’s an element of luck in terms of the genetic hand you have been dealt. When I went to the gynae unit at the hospital recently they told me to still be careful with contraception as they recently had a 57 year old in there accidentally pregnant and that was their record (I’m 53). So older women can and do conceive naturally and it’s more common than you think. That means it’s frustrating and upsetting when you can’t, of course, but at least you know it’s a theoretical possibility.

Happy belated birthday @Honey2! I don’t chart temps (though thinking about getting an Ava following the chats on here) but I think if you haven’t ovulated it’s definitely imminent with the rise and those symptoms! How many days have you had EWCM for?

I was feeling a bit blue about my age last month but all the BFPs here have really cheered me up! Xxx

So I turned 41 yesterday - I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone refer to my age so many times on a single bday!! Even my 40th! 🙈 I’m never normally bothered about turning a year old but yesterday it really depressed me ☹️

On the good new front I feel like I may have ovulated or am about to?! Had a temp rise just above the cover line this morning, strong o pains and ewcm yesterday- however oddly no positive on opk yesterday?

@Ronnyrambler hi, I don't know my amh yet, but I've heard (think it was @Geriatric1234 that said about it?) it's only really an issue when having ivf not when ttc naturally as long as it's not 0 you're in with a chance! I've just turned 42 and partner 40 in too old for ivf here plus we both have children from previous relationships but none together, so we are trying to get more tests done at the mo. I have also been told that amh can change slightly so definitely worth doing all you can - quality not quantity! 🤞🏻

@Geriatric1234 thanks for the advice. We are having an fertility appointment this month so hoping to get some answers soon and he will get tested.

I’ve already got him taking vitamins lol but it will be good to know if there is an issue or not.

Hello thought I'd say hi on this thread as ttc at 41 with very low AMH of 0.2 and refused NHS IVF because of this (age limit is high where I live).
I only got referred for IVF in case I needed back up as started TTC at 40 so was shocked and distressed to learn of 0.2 AMH in December 2020. I read the results online one evening and had to work out what it meant by myself whcih was awful. ANyway a few months in and I'm not feeling as shocked but do want to give it a go. Am reading It Starts With The Egg and started to follow recs including Ubiquinol. We shall see....

Hey @Tillybabs! I’m 42 and my DH is about to turn 50 so v similar to you! He also has kids from a previous relationship. Worth getting his swimmers tested as there’s things you can do for him too! X

@sabtom yes Fragmin was what I was injecting it’s the brand name for deltaparin (heparin). Know idea if that was what helped me carry to term or not but I felt like I was giving my best shot by taking it! Even if injecting everyday was a pain in the bum!!

Ah ok. I was prescribed Fragmin (?) injections when I was pregnant last year. About 13 years ago I had a blood clot due to the Dianette pill I was on, and because of that the consultant thought it would be best that I had the injections throughout my pregnancy. It ended in a MMC anyway. But I think I was prescribed the thinners because of my history and not the risk of miscarriage.

I would also second baby aspirin after recurring miscarriage. I had a late loss at 20weeks and they picked up that I may have thicker/stickier blood in pregnancy. They couldn’t say for sure that was the cause of the lose but they said to take baby aspirin in any future preg - I was told once the preg test Is positive and not before as I think there are some studies linked to it affecting implantation. Of course best always to speak to a dr but as @Catconfusion said they don’t always have the latest/fullest knowledge. I was also prescribed heparin injections too and carried a successful preg with these medicines.
