Trying to conceive baby No 1 over 40

October1979 · 13/10/2020 16:07

I am 40 nearly 41 and ttc baby no1. I fell pregnant for the first time in December but suffered a missed miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks in February. I've been trying ever since with no luck. I use Clearblue advanced fertility monitor. Take vitamin B, C and Co Q10 as well as pre conception tablets daily. Until lockdown I did weekly acupuncture. I guess I'm feeling low as af turned up today and I turn 41 very soon.

I am usually positive and hopeful. Trying to think what's for me won't go past me...

Looking for some buddies in the same boat or some over 40s who conceived naturally to give me hope and share their secret to success.

@Livingmagicallyagain

I started taking levo, prescribed by my GP. It took one cycle to fall pregnant after giving the levo 10 to 12 weeks to work.
Hi am interested in levo is this available on the NHS? I have been TTC baby number 3 for over a year now and nothing following a miscarriage in March 2020. I went to my GP was given 1 round of blood tests apparently as still ovulating. Was then offered no other help and was basically told I should be happy with what we have. Of course I'm immensely greatful for my two lovely children but longing for another so much the feeling just won't go away. I have tried everything including the clear blue fertility monitor and pressed. I have my AMH levels done in Jan this year they were 4.9 apparently normal for my age. I had an initial consultation for IVF but my husband won't agree with this route am getting desperate here. Any other suggestions am taking ore conception vitamins, omega 3 and ubiquinol 300mg. Is there anything more that I can ask my GP for?

I'm new to the page and just thought I'd add I'm just 41 I am very fortunate I already have 2 children and hope I'm not overstepping by commenting in this group. My hubby and I decided we wanted to add at least one more to our brood but I've recently had my 2nd miscarriage. It's hard but I'm determined and at mo I'm still sticking true to the belief and saying that age is just being a number altho after this last miscarriage I am becoming sceptical - it's hard going but really helpful to hear all types of stories and experiences - thankyou for sharing

@Geriatric1234 Thank you, will move over!

Hi @Miller2021 - I will keep everything crossed for you that it sticks! Seeing positives really does give me hope as well, so I'm rooting for you! xx

Miller2021 · 08/06/2021 13:50

@JaffaCake123 @soontobeamama Thank you! I've read the other posts on this thread enough to know not to get too excited too soon, and I intend to just keep testing once a day and see how it goes. But I was absolutely astonished to see a line this morning - I didn't get a real peak on any OPKs this month so was really not expecting anything. I'm still so shocked.

soontobeamama · 08/06/2021 13:02

Congratulations @Miller2021!

Hi everyone, I haven't been on Mumsnet much this month but thought I would update you guys as I can't tell anyone else! This is cycle #2 TTC, I'm 41, period due today so I did a test... and boom!

Nervous about how this will go from now on, but I had been really worried I wasn't ovulating at all - at least I know that I am. Fingers crossed...

How is it going everyone?

I hope the bfp's are progressing? 🙏

sabtom · 30/05/2021 10:13

@Marvellouslymadmum @Geriatric1234 yeah so the doc was saying that follicles can fluctuate from month to month but the big drop from October was a bit shocking. I guess the AMH results will us a better idea of what's happening and which kind of IVF to go for.
@October1979 aww big hugs to you, I really hope it goes your way but in the meantime try to enjoy the sunshine and give yourself some pampering time Thanksxx

October1979 · 30/05/2021 09:53

Hi everyone my tests were faint yesterday. So going to take a day off testing. Pretty sure I'm out as not progressing. That will be 3 chemicals in 5 months for me. My temps and pulse rate also continuing to fall which is not good. I've added a link to a new thread as I think we may run out soon. Not sure if I've done it right hope so x

@sabtom sorry about the follicles but I have heard that sometimes you can get different amounts at different times of the month!

@Littlemiss40andfabulous that's great news! I'm so pleased for you, hopefully everything with carry on preg reading just fine and no need to worry

@Honey2 @October1979 I'm keeping everything crossed for you both that these are your successful pregnancies! 🤞🏻

Honey2 · 29/05/2021 17:22

@Geriatric1234 thanks for your sensible words. I know it’s just a waiting game and I’m lucky to be getting a scan next week. I have read that a pregnancy can still be successful even if hcg is rising slowly. Feeling a bit sad as I just wished we’d started this whole journey 12 months ago - as I think you are right, I can get pregnant (did so twice in 3 months) but it is about the right egg. Unfortunately my husband and I agreed at the start of the year we would give it 6 months until June and then draw a line under TTC and be happy with the kids we have. (Which I know I am so very lucky to have) so I’m extra sad as if this pg has failed that’s it for us. And I just need to get my head around that. ☹️

Geriatric1234 · 29/05/2021 16:08

@October1979 to me that line still looks good!

@Honey2 glad your doc is sending you for a scan. I think you need to forget tests for a while and focus on symptoms. Surely (though I don’t know this) there’s a point at which the tests become redundant? In that they don’t darken as fast? Regardless you’ll get answers and just need to sit tight and hope for the best. Stay positive.

Please try not to distress yourselves. I know I’m like a broken record, but as heartbreaking as a chemical is it’s a really positive thing that you can get pg. it’s just about the right egg.

I know it’s only natural to want to know, but this is why I don’t test unless AF is 4/5 days late. I feel like you’re putting yourselves through so much pain. I do get it though. You’re stronger than I am to test so early.

@sabtom on another thread a fertility doc told a woman that follicles vary wildly from month to month. She’s had 3 scans and first was 8, second was 2 and third was 7. That drop doesn’t means they’ve all gone for good! Xx

Sorry above ment for @sabtom

That's good news @Littlemiss40andfabulous glad things are going smoothly. Fingers crossed they continue for you. @Honey2 hope things are going well for you. @santon don't worry about the count it's all about the egg. Fingers crossed for your amh results being positive. Comparing the tests to last month they look very much the same. I think they will keep getting lighter till they disappear in the next few days. Now I'm unsure what to do 😥xxx

Littlemiss40andfabulous · 29/05/2021 11:02

@October1979 and @Honey2 sorry to hear your lines aren't progressing. I hope that does begin to change for you.

I'm doing ok so far. Have 3+ weeks coming up on the clear blue digital and started to feel very hungry all day yesterday. It's really encouraging- I'm 5 weeks today (this time last time my period arrived). But I know it could all change in an instant still so trying to find the balance of embracing it but not getting too attached and excited too.

Thinking of you all!

XxX

sabtom · 29/05/2021 09:38

@October1979 @Honey2 keep the faith, I'm keeping everything crossed for you both 🤞🏻Thanks

Went for an initial scan last week at Create Fertility, everything looked good although my follicles have decreased from last October's scan from 16 follicles to 4 Sad. The doc said it's still not the end of the road for us, it's still about quality eggs not quantity. I'll get the results of the new AMH in a couple of weeks (it was 11 in Nov 2019) and we're gunna discuss where to go from there but probably gunna be starting IVF within the next couple of months.

October1979 · 29/05/2021 09:14

Hi everyone thanks for all your support. I think mine isn't progressing both tests seem slightly lighter today and my temp and pulse rate have fallen for 3 days in a row. I would be very shocked if things turned out ok. At 14dpo I would have thought there would be more progression.

OP posts:
Marvellouslymadmum · 29/05/2021 08:56

@October1979 @Honey2 I have everything crossed for you both! There's definitely progression on your cb October, and honey try not to worry 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻❤️
