Tell me about aspirin and miscarriage

I've had 4 chemical pregnancies lost between 4-5 weeks. Started taking 75mg aspirin in my last cycle from my fertile week and I did have an early loss then but it went on longer than others have before.

I asked my GP about it and she couldn't say yes or no to taking it but said she did hear of specialists prescribing it. I did a lot of research and decided it was safe enough to take and might help.

I'm going to increase my dose to 150mg in my next cycle as it's the recommended dose. If I can pinpoint my ovulation I will start taking it from then, otherwise I'll begin around when I think my ovulation time is.

@Slk3558 nope haven't had a BFP since July/August ☹️ got a doctors appointment on Monday to finally get some help after 15 cycles and no successful pregnancy! How are you doing?

I've just read some posts I'd missed and it sounds like it's ideal to take from the start of the 2WW?

Hey ladies, for those who've been taking 75mg aspirin to prevent a miscarriage, at what time of the month did you start taking it every day?

I'm going to get a pack and start after having 2 chemicals at around 4 and a half weeks along.

I'm convinced it will help as I get some small clots during my periods every month and I'm otherwise eating well, a normal weight and healthy (no smoking, heavy drinks etc) so feel like there's nothing else I can change to try and help things along.

Any tips anyone can give would be super helpful. I have low blood pressure (as in bottom of normal range low) and very mild asthma - only triggered with high intensity cardio exercise or extremely dusty environments, so want to check if you all think it's safe for me to give it a go?

I'm reluctant to ask the GP as I think they will immediately just say no to cover themselves due to my records saying I have asthma and also having had 2 miscarriages rather than 3.

Also took 75mg from BFP after two early miscarriages. Told midwife about it and they were fine. At 12 week scan they increased my dose to 150mg (due to age they said, I'm 40) and I'm currently 14+3. It definitely doesn't do harm so worth a go and I'm so glad I did!

Had 3 miscarriages this year all before 7 weeks. Started taking aspirin 3dpo on 2 cycle after 3rd loss and I’m not 12 weeks pregnant and I’ve had 3 scans and all progressing well

@CalmDown7 Yes, I took 75mg. You can buy it from most pharmacies and supermarkets. I took it from around 6 weeks (from when the midwife recommended it to me) and if I fell pregnant again in the future I would start taking it from the date of my positive test.

I should probably mention that I also asked for a prescription of progesterone, after advice from others on here, so I can't be sure which made the difference (or it could be neither, and just a matter of luck). It made me really tired though, and personally I have a feeling it was the aspirin that did the trick. My midwife said she'd recommended it to multiple people in my situation and it seemed to work. It can't hurt to try, fingers crossed that everything works out for you next time

I'm currently taking 75mg and am in the TWW. Like many of the PPs, I've experience early miscarriages and have been told it can't hurt. I've read elsewhere about women taking 150mg, but I would personally consult my doctor before moving up from 75mg. If I do get a BFP in the next week or so (AF is due on the 18th) I'll tell the midwife I've been taking it and will follow their guidance on when to stop -- but probably won't feel comfortable doing so until the 12-week scan, just so I can feel like I'm somewhat out of the woods. If this month isn't my month, I'll stop taking it and will start again when I enter the next TWW. Fingers crossed for me ladies!

I had six losses, missed or miscarriages.

Two failed IVF.

Saw private specialist January 2018 and was told to start 75mg a day and meanwhile out on donor list.

Had Dd October 2018.

Now seven months with baby two!!

Am taking 75mg, or a 300 broken into quarters as I couldn't get it during lockdown.

Took it right up until the day I delivered. Started again when got positive test.

I was prescribed it in all of my preganancies from 2ww onwards. I was told strictly to stop taking it by 20 weeks though as it can cross the placenta.

5 early miscarriages. Unhelpful doctor. I put myself on 75mg aspirin which I took until I got a blazing positive test result. My friend who had a similar history but via IVF did the same and we fell pregnant in the same month. Our babies are a few weeks old now.

The (different) doctor I spoke to after my positive test said he would have put me on aspirin if it hadn't worked and laughed when I admitted I had already.

@CalmDown7 I went to a fertility clinic for a while after my gp who is also a fertility specialist went on maternity. The clinic prescribed me a low dosage of eltroxin for the early losses . Even though I havent got thyroid issues she said it would help. I used it for two cycles so far and didn't get a bfp on either. Now my gp is back and put me on letrozole ( have pcos) . . I found the eltroxin wrecked my stomach along with the other meds I take and have no idea if it helps. I ran out of script two weeks ago so will have to talk to gp when I go for follicle scan Tuesday. Ots the first I ever heard of eltroxon helping with early loss but if something like baby aspirin does the same job then I'd rather that as it shouldn't cause so much stomach upset

Yes OP I take 75mg, you can get it from any pharmacy, just ask for a low dose of aspirin.

I started it when I found out I was pregnant. I also followed the ‘recurrent miscarriage’ regime in ‘It starts with an Egg’.

I told the consultant I was under for the recurrent miscarriages (although I was pregnant again by the time I saw him), and he said it would do no harm to take it.

I’m still taking it, although, I might stop having seen what the PP above said!

I'm currently sat in epu waiting on the nasty misoprostol tablets to shift tissue that's left behind🙁 Ive been referred to the re current miscarriage clinic. Just looking for inspiration inbetween ❤️

Please go carefully and speak to your doctor. Several years ago I took “baby” aspirin with IVF after several miscarriages. I sadly miscarried again and the doctor in the early pregnancy unit said that there was new research then showing that aspirin could cause a miscarriage. This was many years ago and of course that research could have been disproved now. I wanted to give the other side as I’d read a lot about how it could help and my IVF doctors were supportive of it (but as the dr in the EPU said, it’s their job to help you get pregnant but they aren’t always the best at keeping you pregnant). I took baby asprin once a day. My midwife suggested it, and I mentioned a couple of times to other midwives and doctors that I was taking it and it wasn't an issue. One doctor said you only need to take it until around 12 weeks, but I took it until around 37 weeks just in case. You need to stop taking it before the birth.

Same - had multiple missed miscarriages, all stopped developing around 8 weeks. I took baby asprin daily throughout my most recent pregnancy and now have a 4 month old. I'll definitely take it for any future pregnancies. Good luck!
