Anyone conceived after husband has been on steroids?

@crhxxx - I am sorry- you're right- was looking through lots of medical, peer reviewed articles and looking fir a more recent date- and screwed it up. There is plenty of research out there. I was coming from the perspective of someone who's partner took drugs, said they'd stop, and didn't- so yeah- maybe jaded- I don't doubt that. But if this is likely to be something the OP can't support after having a child you end up in the very real position of choosing your morals and values or your partner. You are comfortable with people injecting unprescribed steroids- that's your choice. OP doesn't seem to be as comfortable with supporting it- so it's valid to think when he chooses to go back to it, will she continue to be fine with it when a child is now involved, that's all.

@SD1978 I’m sure the OP doesn’t need you to tell her to consider feelings she may or may not have, now or in the future.

Oh, FYI the article you’ve posted isn’t actually for ANABOLIC STEROIDS, it’s actually a study for PRESCRIBED “Legal” steroids. For example, an inhaler. For Asthma, believe it or not!

You’ve actually posted an article for a study on Corticosteroids, which are actually used as a PRESCRIBED anti-inflammatory drug. But thanks for pointing out the side effects of LEGALLY PRESCRIBED steroids! 😊

I’m far from naive, I’d say you most definitely are though, for assuming anybody who takes Anabolic Steroids is going to beat you up 😂. And from the article you provided, anybody who takes a legal steroid will probably also beat you up too, going off the study you provided and the side effects 😊.

Feel free to post the side effects of Anabolic Steroids, which you’ve found off the internet. I’ll choose to ignore it though, considering my partner of 10 years has never laid a single hair on my head, despite being this “Drug abusing roid rage monster”.

@crhxxx - or maybe it because of all the research out there, such as this article www.mayoclinicproceedings.org/article/S0025-6196(11)61160-9/pdf, along with their responders personal experiences (health care here) as opposed to a nievety gained through media that steroids = bad. If the OP doesn't like her partner using them, surely it's worth considering that that feeling of not liking her husband injecting steroids, may increase after they have children?

We haven't really been trying long I suppose, I came off the pill on sept and so sept/Oct wasn't properly trying I just noted my periods in Flo app so I would know dates and OH goes away sometimes with work so he was away most of Oct and early nov. He was taking steroids aug/sept time so then I think he cruised test while away Oct as with going away he couldn't PCT then he PCT'd as soon as home and I think is nearly finished. Pre covid his plan was to do a PCT come off everything and get bloods done to check everything is normal but with covid can't really go to docs for that now. I think I will suggest he gets bloods/sperm count checked.

We started trying in January 2020, my partner didn’t finish his cycle until May 2020, in August 2020 we got his sperm tested at a clinic called CHERISH UK. We had to pay £120.00 for the Semen Analysis.

His count was 7.4 million per ml in August 2020, it’s now at 50 million per ml so it’s definitely going in the right direction!

My partner took HCG and HMG when he first came off steroids in May, so I think that gave his sperm the “jump start” so to speak!

My partner provided his sample at home and we took it into the clinic within 20 minutes for the results which were emailed over within 1 hour!

I’ve been pregnant twice before with the same partner (before steroids), but our situations at the time we decided to not continue with the pregnancies. So I know I’m able to fall pregnant, it’s just a case of his sperm not being quite ready to be able to fertilise the egg. His motility and morphology is fine, perfect in fact, it’s just his count that’s on the lower side!

We have friends who have gotten pregnant whilst their partners have been on steroids, but they’ve been on fairly low doses. My partner has previously taken a range of different things! He won’t be going back on steroids until we fall pregnant though.

I wouldn’t worry about your fertility, as I said it’s probably down to his sperm not being great. I’d definitely ask him to have a test done, every 3 months to see the progression!

Oh also not first hand experience so I couldn't say exactly what their steroid use was like or how long it took but he has a friend who used to stay on for ages always taking steroids but hardly even trained or used them and he got his ex preg accidentally and had a healthy baby and I know OH has other bodybuilding friends/acquaintances who have kids.

Hi OP I am in a similar position and completely agree with @crhxxx those people commenting on this thread about "roid rage" and partners hitting baby are completely clueless.

Sorry I can't really help much apart from to say I am in a similar boat. My partner is 26 and has used anabolic steroids for bodybuilding for quite a few years. Not sure exactly how long but I think from maybe like 18/20yo. When he was younger by his own admission perhaps wasn't the most sensible but over the last few years he is fairly sensible with it although obviously and he knows I would rather he didn't. He does cycle it and PCT he doesn't just stay on for like a year as I know others do and he says compared with others his doses are fairly mild, I have also known him to say he won't take a certain one again, or lower his dosages if he doesn't like the feeling/effects.
I came off pill in sept and we have spoken about TTC for a while which is something he really wants. He has been PCTing for the last few months and did research/spoke to experienced people on Instagram about how to PCT properly for TTC. He has been taking hcg too I think although they're all brand names so I don't quite know.

Sorry rambling but yeah I am in same boat and would just say for him to research and PCT properly.

@crhxxx how did your OH get sperm counts I would like him to do this?

I do worry he's ruined his body/fertility and we won't be able to conceive 🙁 but also worry that I might be infertile for whatever reason (no reason to suspect but just a huge worrier)!

I don’t want to be confrontational, but I really suggest you do your research before splurting rubbish on the internet.

Have you had experience with anybody taking anabolic steroids? And if you have, and they’ve been aggressive towards you, that was clearly their nature before steroids came into play.

Me, personally, my partner of 10 years has used anabolic steroids extensively previously, as have many family members who compete in Body Building competitions and used anabolic steroids, they barley even swear. Let alone any of the things your narrow mind is suggesting. I know this first hand, I know all of their partners well, it’s always a topic of discussion, especially when comments like yourselves appear on the internet.

This lady asked for no judgement, and your questioning her personal relationship, and her motherly instincts. If she thought her or her baby would be in danger do you think she would be having a child?

Of course there are men out there who take steroids who hit their partners, there’s also men out there who don’t use steroids who batter their partners! 😂

Also, there are a MILLION and ONE different types of AAS (Body Building Steroids). All doing different things, effecting the body in all different ways, so to say that steroids make you angry and cause “Roid Rage” is like saying that “food” makes you fat.

Is this something that will be restating post him impregnating you? I know you said no judgment, you don't agree- but you're with someone who injects illegal drugs, knowing they affect mood and ability to conceive- and you're choosing to have a child. So you are condoning the behaviour. Are you not concerned that when he's back on steroids, tired and the baby is crying there is a very real risk? I'm sorry- I would be. Maybe get gone to sort out his drug addiction first before conceiving?

Yes. But I can't recommend it.

Nobody needs to be taking a beating to protect a two year old from 'Roid Rage when he inevitably goes back on the things again.

My partner has taken steroids consistently for 27 weeks. He came off them in May 2020 and his sperm count is now at 50 million per ml.

His first initial sperm test was in August 2020, his count was at 7.4 million per ml. So his sperm has came along way since August 2020.

I still haven’t fell pregnant yet, but hopefully now his sperm is improving I should fall pregnant soon!

How long have you been TTC? Have you gotten pregnant since your post? Has your partner had his sperm tested?
