Anyone conceived after husband has been on steroids?

Hi

New to my TTC journey and just after advice (success stories really!). Husband has taken anabolic steroid cycles on and off for several years which I obviously know is not great for sperm count and I don’t condone it (not looking for criticism or judgement). He has been off them for a while and last cycle took hcg.

Anyway, has anyone successfully conceived after their husband / partner has had a history of using steroids? If so how long did it take to catch?

@crhxxx aww that's so lovely! So chuffed for you let me know how you get on. I really hope I'll be able to update soon and say I got BFP but not feeling very positive 🙁 xx

crhxxx · 14/04/2021 15:29

@justwant2beamum I hope you fall pregnant this month! And get your BFP! Sometimes it happens at the most unexpected time, so you never know! 💗 I’m 16 weeks & 3 days 🥰 Yeah, I had really bad morning sickness but it’s eased off completely now. I’m low in Vitamin D so I’m having to take supplements for that, I do keep getting headaches as well the last few days, so I’m going to keep an eye on those!
We heard her heartbeat as well, it’s 142 beats per minute so a nice average rage. Xxxx

justwant2beamum · 14/04/2021 14:21

@crhxxx ahh congrats that's amazing! So happy for you 💕 how many weeks now? What's your due date? I got AF on cd27 after my ERPC so wasn't too bad. I didn't catch ovulation right after ERPC so don't know if I did or not but I think I caught it on opks this cycle and if they were right I'm about 2dpo at the moment. Praying so much I get BFP this month but I feel like I won't be lucky enough to catch quick again 😩 how have you been? Have you generally been well with pregnancy? Xx

crhxxx · 14/04/2021 11:07

Hey @justwant2beamum - how’re you? Have you had your period yet? I hope you and your partner are doing okay. 💗
We found out last week that we’re having a baby girl! I was so sure it was a boy haha.
I hope you’re doing okay xx

justwant2beamum · 23/03/2021 11:20

@crhxxx ah that's so exciting! We really wanted to find out the gender before and I think still will (just for the scan anyway) but now I don't care what I have as long as they're healthy!

crhxxx · 23/03/2021 11:14

I wanted to have weekly scans but my partner was against it and thought it would make things worse. I do feel slightly more at ease now we’re past 12 weeks, but I think once we’ve seen the baby again at 16 I’ll feel a lot more “safe”.
Yeah, we’re going to find out! I wanted the SneekPeak blood test, but my partner never haha he thought it was unnatural but I was dying to find out 😂 I’m a lot more relaxed now about finding out because I don’t really mind either way what she or he is xx

justwant2beamum · 23/03/2021 08:34

@crhxxx oh I've not heard of that, yes will definitely see if anywhere near us does that if we manage to conceive again! Are you going to get a private scan around 16wks and find out gender? Xx

crhxxx · 22/03/2021 20:02

Oh my goodness, I can’t believe everything was perfect when you had seen it 😢 I was the same and googling the % of miscarriages etc. I was so relieved when we went at 6 weeks and there was a heartbeat, but then I just felt like I was holding my breath right up until the next scan!
I had a scan like a week ago and I’m already desperate for another one, just to know that everything’s okay...
At some private clinics they do offer weekly scans at discounted prices, so that could be something to look into? I know it’s not every other day but at least it is weekly 💗

justwant2beamum · 21/03/2021 13:18

@crhxxx we paid for a scan at 7 weeks which was great was measuring 7+1 and perfect heartbeat so we read chances of success were like 96% at that point so told parents and about 3 close friends each. I was also very sick and on meds for HG, then one weekend at about 9+2 it just all disappeared so we paid for another scan on the Monday at 9+4 as EPU wouldn't scan me and was told no HB and measured 7+1-2. So it basically died the day or day after our first private scan which seems so cruel and I've spent a lot of hours googling and wondering why there was a perfect HB then it just stopped. If there was no HB or really slow on the first scan or something I feel like I would have understood a bit more and known things were going wrong. Yes if we fall again I can see us spending a lot of money on scans although I think every day in between I would just worry!

crhxxx · 21/03/2021 09:27

@justwant2beamum yeah I can only imagine how hard it is for you both, especially as like you said you’d planned everything and thought everything was fine. Did you have an early scan to then find out you have had a MMC?
We paid to have an early scan at 6+2 and then 8+2 and then the 12 week because I was so anxious something was going to go wrong in those first few weeks. I feel a little less anxious now we’re in the 2nd trimester but the feelings still creep back every once in a while.
There’s no reason as to why you won’t fall pregnant again, so don’t put to much pressure on yourself and remember to talk to each other if your both feeling it’s getting to much. The worst thing I did was keep it all bottled up and let it fester in my own head xx

justwant2beamum · 20/03/2021 23:47

Yeah tbh before this happened I thought that way myself but now I don't know whether it's worse the worry of whether we can conceive and I can carry a healthy baby and what if it's something we've done. I actually think this feels much worse as we thought it was happening and planned everything. Aw that's so lovely my birthday is end of sept and my due date should have been 30th. So lovely for you I was so pleased with my September due date. I just really hope im pregnant in the next month or two as I feel like after that I'll really fall apart.

crhxxx · 20/03/2021 18:39

@justwant2beamum that’s good that he hasn’t gotten back on steroids, so everything is still functioning as it should. At least in a strange way it’s a comfort knowing you’re able to get pregnant, that was always a big worry of mine after my partner started taking steroids. Haha you are funny, but I can see why you don’t want him to go back on until you’ve had your children I’ve tried arguing the same point haha 😂

Im good though, thanks for asking 💗 How are you and your partner?

I’m 13 weeks and 2 days now, my due dates 24th September they’ve calculated 💗💗 xxx

justwant2beamum · 20/03/2021 15:57

@crhxxx ah I see, sorry to hear that how awful for you. Especially no period for so long. I'm just waiting to see when my period will come back. Hopefully something close to normal, I was 28/29 day cycles before MC. Yes partner still off and won't be going back on anything until after we hopefully have a successful pregnancy. And if I get my way he won't be again until we've had 2 and finished having kids 😂 how are you? How many weeks are you and when are you due? Xx

crhxxx · 20/03/2021 00:09

@justwant2beamum sorry, this was August 2019 that I had mine 💗 It was so dragged out as I wanted to go through it naturally but had to have the tablets and then the surgical management afterwards and my body reacted so badly to the surgical management.
It’s good that you have had a long bleed even though I can imagine it’s not pleasant 😢 I didn’t have any bleeding at all and I didn’t have a period from the August 2019 to January 2020, so I was so worried but my body just reacted terribly to the surgical, my tests didn’t get any lighter for months and I wasn’t having periods 😢 so it’s good that your body has reacted well and you can try again when you and your partner feel ready 💗💗
Is your partner still off cycle? Or did he start his cycling again?
I’m glad that you commented on here, even in the circumstances it’s good to hear from you. Xxxx

justwant2beamum · 19/03/2021 23:31

@crhxxx oh no have you had a MC too? Or was this previous? Yeah it's been pretty shit, had no bleeding so had surgical management on 5th March, bled for about 10-12 days bleeding just stopped earlier this week. Tests are getting lighter, just waiting for a negative want to TTC straight away. So haven't had a proper cycle yet and don't know when it'll come. Xx

crhxxx · 19/03/2021 21:20

@justwant2beamum 💗 Hey, I am so sorry. Sending you so much love, I can’t imagine how hard today is for you. So I really hope you and your partner are doing okay 💗. I’m sorry for how you would’ve had to find out as well, I know my friend had a MMC and didn’t realise until her 12 week scan that the baba had stopped growing at 6 weeks.
Have you had a cycle since the MMC? I hope everything went smoothly, mine was a traumatic ordeal and wouldn’t want anyone to have to go through the prolonged upset. 💗 xxx

justwant2beamum · 19/03/2021 21:12

Hey @crhxxx don't know if you'll see this but just on the off chance. Hope you're keeping well. I couldn't access my old acc and couldn't reset my password so I never got your private message, sorry, just so you know I'm not rude. I had to make a new account. Hope you and your bean are well, I sadly had a MMC lost at 7+1 discovered at 9+4. Should have been my 12 week scan today :(

strangerontheinternet · 22/01/2021 10:57

@crhxxx sorry just seen your reply! I'm on the app which I don't think you can get private messages. I've forgotten my password and the link to reset isn't coming through but once I figure it out/sort it I'll log on to web and hopefully get it! X

crhxxx · 19/01/2021 15:17

@strangerontheinternet - Ahh! Congratulations haha! I’m so happy for you too! 💗 Strange coincidence but so happy for you and your partner!

I know, I did see their reply but couldn’t be arsed to waste my time replying to them 😂😂

I did private message you if you wanted to keep in touch, even more so now we’re both pregnant haha! Xx

strangerontheinternet · 19/01/2021 14:51

Sorry @crhxxx I had a name change for a previous post sorry for any confusion it's justwanttobemum!

strangerontheinternet · 19/01/2021 14:51

Hey @crhxxx congrats!!! What a coincidence - I got mine today! Very lucky, that was cycle 4 I think. So everything seems to have come back pretty quick after me coming off pill after 10 years and him coming off everything too. Good luck for your pregnancy 💫 not even going to bother commenting on the other comments on this thread, if you experienced abuse from your partner then probably more to do with them than the steroids and I suspect they would still be the same if they came off them :)

Bekilted · 14/01/2021 16:36

Best thing I ever did was leaving an anabolic steriod abuser before I got pregnant.
The experience of verbal, psychological and physical abuse makes me very grateful I didn't knowingly bring a defenseless child into that situation.
I'd be less worries about his fertility and more worried about how he'd react to a screaming toddler who won't settle..

crhxxx · 14/01/2021 16:28

@justwanttobemum - Hey! I hope you’re okay! I just thought I’d keep the thread updated for any other people that may stumble across the post. I got my BFP! It took since May 2020, my partner completely coming off all types of steroids, testosterone etc, multiple sperm tests, but we finally got there in the end! Hope this brings some reassurance! xx

crhxxx · 15/12/2020 22:46

@SD1978 I know there’s a lot of research out there, I honestly read it all years ago when my partner first got into body building. Thankfully he’s sensible, there’s lots of men / women who aren’t and do abuse them massively, there what the majority of the world see “anabolic steroids” as. That’s usually where the whole “Roid rage” saying comes from, which is either in that person to begin with, or not. With or without a little testosterone in the mix.

I understand your point of view though completely, especially with you previously / currently, having / had a partner taking drugs and saying they’d stop and hadn’t - especially when a child is added in the mix. 😊
