Worried about lack of line progression

I got my BFP at 10dpo, I'm now 13dpo and would have expected the lines to get a bit stronger by now, but they all look the same.

Should I be worried? My last BFP turned into a chemical so I'm terrified of that happening again.

@DawnLaura I don't think you were naive at all. You couldn't possibly expect this to happen to you. It is really bad luck and really sad.

Our little girl is 20 months. I really wanted her to have a sibling but I just miscarried our only frozen embryos and I'm pushing it age wise so we probably won't get another chance now. I'm gradually getting to think that might be ok but right now I'm not able to conceive because I'm just post miscarriage (and we haven't had sex yet!). I know I'll find it harder once it's theoretically possible - even tho we can't conceive naturally I always drive myself nuts hoping for a miracle!!

I very much hope that your time will come soon. In the meantime take good care of yourself and get yourself through the next few days/weeks x

@Janefx40 This would have been our second child. Very blessed that we already have a 2 year old. I'm so sorry about your miscarriage. ❤️ It's just awful, isn't it? My first time TTC and subsequent pregnancy was so straightforward; conceived in cycle 2, no issues whatsoever during pregnancy. This time round has been a lot more difficult, we've been trying for 6 months now, had a chemical in cycle 2 and now this. I was very naive to think things would be straightforward again. 🙁

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. Are you trying for your first child?

I didn't want to worry you earlier but essentially the EPU will only scan at the moment if they think the pregnancy might be ectopic. Personally I think it is utterly shit and 7 months into Covid they should sort it out. But that is a whole rant that you could do without right now.

I just had a miscarriage at 8w5d. I'm not sure if I mentioned that before. We do have a child already conceived through IVF. I know it is different when you have a child already but I remember how I felt doing IVF originally and when our first attempt ended in a chemical and this recent miscarriage was pretty shit too.

Sending you lots of love - just make yourself as comfy as you can to ride this out. I literally emptied Morrison's of crisps and chocolates when I was miscarrying! X

@Janefx40 Thank you ❤️ I spoke to the EPU and they said it definitely sounds like a miscarriage but will only scan me in a few weeks if I'm still getting positive tests. They said to just wait it out unless things get very painful or I start bleeding a crazy amount in which case to go to A&E.

Right now I'm bleeding very heavily and cramping but nothing more than a bad period.

Just devastated.

Hi @DawnLaura I'm so sorry. Of course nothing is certain until you either have a test or a scan. When you do call your GP be sure to emphasise that you are bleeding heavily and that you are more than 6 weeks. Early Pregnancy Units are mostly only seeing people with heavy bleeding at the moment - because of Covid they are limiting themselves to people they see as more at risk. They refused to scan me when I was miscarrying because I wasn't bleeding (I had blood tests confirming it). Good luck. Let us know how you get on if you'd like to xxx

Another update: this little bean held on for a whole week, but today I've started bleeding heavily and having mild cramps. I'm 6+1 today. I need to work until 1pm but gonna call my GP once I get home and see what they say, but unfortunately I think this is the miscarriage I've been dreading. 😥

@maria2bela Yeah I guess you're right. It's just hard not to test because I'm so worried about the bleeding meaning miscarriage, so I guess still getting those strong positives just eases my mind a little. I had no bleeding whatsoever with my first so this is all a little new to me. I'll be 6 weeks on Monday and planning on booking a private test then as I'd like my partner to be with me too. Thank you for your advice :) x

Still spotting and did another test yesterday which was still a good strong positive, so starting to think this pregnancy might be viable which is exciting. As mentioned above, gonna book a private scan for sometime in the next few weeks hopefully so that I can know for sure if this pregnancy is healthy so far and continue on with a little less worry hopefully.

At this point I'd say you've had enough positives to confirm pregnancy and I'd probably just stop testing. Bleeding can be normal during early pregnancy, so unless it gets heavy and bright red along with pain I wouldn't assume miscarriage straight away. Once you turn 6 weeks you could book a private early scan or call your local early pregnancy unit and tell them about the bleeding, they may offer you an early one x

@LouH1981 @Janefx40 Thank you both ❤️ I started spotting more pink/redder blood today, but again it sort of fizzled out and turned to brown by the evening. No heavy bleed, nothing like a period, no clots or anything. So still just as confused but just waiting it out for now. Going to test again tomorrow morning with and see if the test is darker again.

Oh yes the display always wipes clear on the CB whatever the result.

Hi, don’t worry about the CB. It’s definitely not an indicator as to strength of HCG. My positive result also disappeared from both tests within days, the results of which are now 5 years old and 9 months.
If the spotting continues definitely call your GP who can put you in touch with your local EPU.
I have everything crossed for you xx

CB battery only lasts 24 hours regardless of negative or positive.

(Veteran of an ectopic, a mc, a chemical, and a perfect baby boy).

Erratic tests can mean everything or nothing, just like bleeding. You can spend the next months googling frantically but all that will tell is time. HCG beta tests are the same. Good luck. Xx

@DawnLaura my clear blues definitely disappeared from the screen within 24 hours...I took photos and once 'pregnant' had disappeared I chucked them away!

I'm 39 weeks now! X

@DawnLaura I'm sure all CB digitals only keep the result on screen for 24 hours? The one I used disappeared after 24 and I looked it up at the time.

@Bizawit I'm definitely feeling more positive after today's test and the fact the blood has turned brown. I never had any sort of bleeding with my DS, so all I can personally relate bleeding to so far is a chemical - so it's super scary but trying to stay as positive as possible just now.

@2020mission Yeah I guess as long as the tests keep getting darker then there's nothing new a blood test could tell me. Someone on a TTC Facebook page I'm on told me that blood is 2 days ahead of urine results and therefore more accurate - but I wasn't sure if that was accurate info.

@Janefx40 Thank you. The CB digital that I took was one with the weeks indicator on it. It said 1-2. I have another one there that I'll take in a week or so time to check if it has changed.

One thing that worried me with the CB digi test was last time I had a chemical, the 'pregnant' result disappeared from the screen in less than 24 hours. The same thing has happened this time. On their website it says a positive result can stay on the screen for up to 6 months and a negative result disappears in 24 hours. So the fact that it has gone from the screen made me think chemical again. But perhaps it just depends on the tests.

Ps they mean weeks from ovulation rather than LMP so 1-2 weeks is 3-4 weeks pregnant etc

@DawnLaura it's not too early for a blood test. IVF clinics would blood test you at 4 weeks. I'm not sure how likely a GP is to blood test you tho. Plus you need 2 blood tests 2 days apart because whilst you do need to have a reasonable level of hcg, the key information is whether it's rising sufficiently. The best information comes from a scan but they can't do that until 6 weeks because there's nothing to see.

I know it's tough (believe me) but the sad truth is that you just have to wait and see. Bleeding can mean nothing or can mean everything. As others have said I know people who have bled and had healthy babies as well as those for whom it meant miscarriage.

Btw the CB digitals I recommended were the ones with "weeks indicator". They don't just say pregnant but also say 1-2 weeks, 2-3 or 3+ so you can track your progression a bit x

@DawnLaura I think they'd say wait it out since it's quite early but you could call just to run it by them for peace of mind. Since your tests are showing positive and not getting fainter I think a blood test would be unnecessary though.

@DawnLaura that’s really great news both that the blood is turning brown and that the line is getting darker. I had bleeding like that- just a bit of spotting that turned brown - early on in both my pregnancies. Sadly one ended up in a miscarriage (but weeks later and not apparently connected to the bleeding) and the other resulted in my now 15 month old DD!

Thanks guys. The not knowing is the hardest part! Will test again in 2 days and see if the line has gotten darker then too.

If I was to call the docs, would they do a blood test for me? Or because I'm only 5+1, would they just say it's too early and to wait things out?
