Hello!

I've been reading loads on the importance of pre-conception nutrition and preparing your body. Some say 3 months before and I've seen some that say 6 months before.

I find myself trawling through threads on Mumsnet but wondered if there were any ladies planning to start TTC in the next few months and wanted a forum to chat about ways to prepare / excitement of it all etc.

I often find myself going on to my bf and mum and they're like ok ok! 😂

Great efforts on the weight loss all round! Number on my scale is finally moving down again, very very slowly!

@CookieMonster3001 don't think you can have a smear on your period, the blood invalidates the sample from memory. Good work on the run - I turned my ankle at the weekend whilst running so think I'll have to rest up for a few days till it feels better.

Another high temp today so think that's ovulation confirmed for me. Been feeling really weird though and my breasts are also sore - really hoping it's not AF again so soon as that would be a problematically short cycle!

CookieMonster3001 · 27/07/2020 16:20

@Lollipop87 Glad you had a great birthday! Nice to relax and unwind.

Yeh I think I might just give them a call tomorrow and see if they can re-arrange it for me. Maybe if I call early enough I wont have to wait too long for another appointment.

Lollipop87 · 27/07/2020 15:47

p.s. well done on the run!

Lollipop87 · 27/07/2020 15:46

@CookieMonster3001 I think you’re meant to avoid during as well as the couple of days before and after your period from memory. I’m not sure if this is simply due to ease for the nurse, or whether it can affect the result so might be worth checking with them

CookieMonster3001 · 27/07/2020 15:10

all the great weigh losses encouraged me to go for a run and I managed to run 20 minutes straight (this is a big deal for me!). I am not going to lie, the last 5 minutes I felt like I was going to die, but I did it!

My boobs were absolutely killing me while running though! Weird considering I'm not due for over a week. My nipples have been pretty painful recently.

I booked my smear for next week as well and then I bloody realised I'm due on the next day. Does anyone know if you can have a smear test if your on your period. Although I don't think I like the sound of that, but getting appointments at my dr's at the moment is a pain in the backside. I'm tempted to just wait it out and if it starts on the day then cancel?

Lollipop87 · 27/07/2020 13:28

Hi everyone, and welcome to all the newbies 😊 I had the weekend offline to celebrate my birthday which was lovely, and I was thoroughly spoilt by DH and my family.

@Nate1 yes sorry my message was a bit confusing! I made a case for starting TTC in September when DH wants to start in October. He just needs this appointment to come through to check everything has cleared up with a testicular infection he had (apparently really common in young men), so he’s said that if it comes through in August then we can talk about TTC in Sept!

Well done everyone on your weight loss, that’s amazing! I only put on a pound over the birthday weekend, which I was quite happy with considering I had steak, lots of cake and pimms! I’d like to lose close to a stone over the next 6 weeks, so back on the healthy eating this week.

wrensandrobins · 27/07/2020 13:27

@MsQueenInTheNorth that's great! Definitely a good achievement and a bonus for your health :)

That's why I swapped to the seven seas 'trying for a baby' brand- but when I looked it literally said vitamin D and folic acid- and I'm worried about other things I might be deficient in.

But while I was typing this I looked at the packet again- and although it does say folic acid and D on the front it has all the other ones listed on the side 🤣🤣🤣

🤦‍♀️

MsQueenInTheNorth · 27/07/2020 12:56

Well done on your weight loss @wrensandrobins and @mackjm20, that’s brilliant! I have 24lb to go until my ideal weight, but I’m happy today as I have managed to get my waist down to 34.5 inches Grin I carry pretty much all my extra weight on my stomach so even though I’m a size 12-14 (so not that big) my previous waist measurement was in the ‘MAKE AN IMMEDIATE APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR DOCTOR’ category Blush
But I’m not in that category anymore!

If you’re worried about taking the vitamins together, would it be worth switching to a basic pregnancy/conception multivitamin? Then you’d know that you were getting enough of everything, but not too much!

wrensandrobins · 27/07/2020 12:02

One thing I am unsure about.. I have been having a multivitamin a day- but I noticed last month that the folic acid was only about half the recommended when you are TTC so I brought a TTC supplement, but that only has folic acid and Vit D, because I'm dieting I would rather be having a multivitamin to make sure I'm getting enough iron and calcium and other minerals in my diet, so am I am wondering if it is ok to take the multivitamin too, at least while I'm dieting and not actively trying to conceive- It doesn't have vitamin a in it which I know is a big no when you are pregnant.

My current theory is to take the multivitamin as well until we start actively trying, but then drop it and just stick to the preconception tablets.

Am I overthinking this?

mackjm20 · 27/07/2020 11:53

@wrensandrobins thank you :) I know I think it defo does give you that extra motivation that’s for sure :)

That’s so good you have managed it calorie counting as keeps a much more balanced diet!

Oh gosh I know I saw the rain and thought evening run maybe! Haha x

CookieMonster3001 · 27/07/2020 11:00

@wrensandrobins that's an incredible loss! Well done!!

Back on my healthy eating plan today (she says while eating an all-butter croissant) haha.

Hope everyone is well and welcome to all the newbies! So good to hear there is so many of us in the pre-planning stage.

wrensandrobins · 27/07/2020 09:56

@mackjm20 that's awesome! Well done! we are both so close! Knowing you are about to start TTC definitely helps with the motivation I think!

I have been calorie counting, for the first 8 weeks I gave up sugar but I have reintroduced it in small amounts. Cutting sugar cold turkey definitely helped get rid of the cravings making the rest of the time a bit easier! I have also upped my exercise but I did skip the run this morning when I saw the weather 🤣 driving rain and running are not my favourite way to start a week!

mackjm20 · 27/07/2020 09:47

@wrensandrobins that’s amazing news well done you! You have done so well! I am currently 6lb from being ‘overweight’ instead of obese and 43lb from being healthy bmi (29lb down since March) but would love to get as much off as poss in the next 8-12 weeks before ttc (covid depending) so I have locked away all the goodies and hoping for a good result this week :) got to up the exercise again really but the weather has been so grim. How have you lost the weight are you following a plan? X

wrensandrobins · 27/07/2020 09:20

I was neglecting the diet, but back on it as of Wednesday last week and I have lost 5lb this weigh in! Just shy of 2stone off now, and soooo soooo close to no longer being obese, just a couple of pounds to go! Hoping I can do it this week!

mackjm20 · 27/07/2020 08:57

Morning :) after a few very busy weeks at work and totally neglecting the diet like many of you have said the lbs are creeping back on! Fully back on plan today 43lb to go to be at goal so let the running commence Smile
AF is here so Atleast I don’t want to eat the world anymore lol x

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 26/07/2020 21:50

@nate1 Aw that’s very sweet of you, and you’re right, I think when the time comes I’ll do what I feel comfortable with (and what I’m allowed to do).

@amy929292 hahah yes!!! What is wrong with them 😂 and welcome to the thread, this started out as me just needing an outlet when I was needed to speak about it and like @nate1 said l, it def keeps my sanity too.

Alot of messages to catch up onGrin

Skin is a very interesting issue, just recently got mine under control. Really hope pregnancy wont make it play up again. Had implant in my arm 3 years ago and it was the beginning of my skin issues. Hopefully we all get the pregnacy glow.

Had my first period after stopping pill this weekend which I'm happy about. Dont know how long my cycle is so Clue and Flo app is telling me 2 different days for most fertile. Alot people say go by the texture of your mucus or changes in it.

This will be officially our first month TTC, a May baby seems very appealing. But will try not to get our hopes up. Husband is so laid back, it's well for the men, a big decision for the woman. But one we are excited and ready for.

Alcohol @Amy929292 is one thing I prob should try cute down. But at the same time, it's nice to enjoy a glass of wine or 2 at the weekend before we do become pregnant and cant have any😉.

Gona start ovulation strips around 5 days before my most fertile day to see if I can see a pattern.

Amy929292 · 26/07/2020 20:59

Hi everyone,
This thread is really interesting! My fiancé and I are getting married in October so I've come off Cerelle on Friday (2 days ago) so my body can 'get back to normal'. We're hoping to try properly to conceive after the wedding. I've just had my withdrawal bleed start today so I'm keen to see how my cycle goes, and whether it will get into a pattern any time soon.
I've ordered some vegan prenatal vitamins which I'm going to start on straightaway so my body is well prepared for when I conceive. I'm also going to cut down on caffeine and alcohol, and start eating healthier. My BMI is 'normal' but I'm trying to lose a little weight to fit into my wedding dress! The tips on here are really interesting, it's nice to know others are planning and preparing too Smile

Amy929292 · 26/07/2020 20:31

@sunflowersaremyfav93

Hahah I know exactly what you mean! I managed to get my boyfriend to stop smoking when we started lockdown, saves a lot of money as well doesn't it!

And yes on the having a child before having in haha. We bought our first home together last last so we've been living together for just over a year now and he's the best but omg why don't they put the empty loo roll thing in the bin???

100% agree about the empty toilet roll tube Grin I love my man to bits but I'd love it if he popped them in the recycling bin!!!!!
stepmumSW5 · 26/07/2020 20:19

@Nate1 me too but my skin is Mediterranean (medium tan) and its not very "flexible" which causes it to be more prone to stretch marks. The upside is this type of skin takes longer to age and get flaccid but it's important to look after it and keep it hydrated. Xx

Nate1 · 26/07/2020 20:17

Hi @all :) I‘ve been afk for the weekend visiting family and it was great to relax. Now back with sunday blues too @queenatom

Lot‘s to read here I‘m glad this thread is doing so well considering that it helps me keep my sanity lol

@Lollipop87 I didn‘t quite understand if you’ve convinced your husband to start early or if he now wants to wait even longer? Sorry maybe I misunderstood something :)

It was interesting to read all of your/your OH‘s opinions on COVID. It is something I think about sometime but I am expecting a second wave rather Nov-March than sep./oct (like the flue..)
This is why I‘m happy that we start TTC in late August because than by the time COVID hits again I‘m hopefully in my second trimester or late first. I would hate to be pregnant in my first weeks or last ones during a spike. BUT of course this is merely guesswork and a sensible and personal topic.

Anyway off to the happy stuff: @Bells3032 so happy for you! I love to even think about my future house..must be great to be planning and nesting :D

@stepmumSW5 Thank you so much for bringing up skincare. I love my Urea cream and use it on my dry skin. Whilst being skinny I have some stretchmarks (lol) don’t know why but might be prone to it and therefore thankful for your recommendation of bio oil. Will def buy that!

@sunflowersaremyfav93 I don’t know you of course but if this thread it any indicator you seem to be super organized and well aware of risks and possible outcomes so that you will make the right decision whether to fly or not when the time comes :)

Welcome to all the new ones.

I have to stick to a healthy diet and so lots of exercise this week to so maybe let’s make a pact for a healthy week and see what will be :)

queenatom · 26/07/2020 19:08

Ah, @Bells3032, congratulations! How exciting! Fingers crossed for a smooth process.

Bells3032 · 26/07/2020 18:51

Eeep it's been a very exciting weekend for us and hope it has been for everyone too. We've had an offer accepted on a house so we are super excited about that. If it goes through we should be able to stay ttc in October knowing we have somewhere to put a baby haha. All very exciting. Hopefully coil will come out the end of August. Its all a go for us.

Diets going well too.

queenatom · 26/07/2020 18:24

Evening all - hope you had good weekends? Got a bad case of the Sunday evening blues here. Good news though is that I had a temp spike last night so think that confirms ovulation on Friday/Saturday - hopefully tomorrow morning will show a similar result.

Welcome @zeerecords - losing some weight seems to be a common thread amongst us all! Do you have a date in mind to start trying?

zeerecords · 26/07/2020 16:13

Hello everyone! Can I join? I'm trying to get ready to TTC soon but need to loose at least 2 stone preferably 2 and half stone first! A few friends and colleagues have gotten pregnant around my weight and gained massively, not that's a problem but I want to try and be fit and healthy and in a good routine with eating healthier first!

Struggling to keep it up though. I did really well in lockdown and lost 10lbs (no takeaways, exercised daily, ate well etc) but now I'm back at work and everything is full on I've gained 5lbs again and can't find the motivated to organise myself!

Loving all the other tips from PP especially the skincare ones.
