Just a quick one, my first month doing OPKs and although I have a pretty regular cycle I have started on CD5. I was under the impression I should test morning and night however the morning tests are always so faint it seems a waste of time? I've started reading SMEP and it says only do evenings? Obviously I'm getting through a lot of tests so just wondering if anyone has ever got there positive OPK in the morning or if I should stick to late afternoon evening?

Thanks in advance

@bibs124 looks promising! I'd do another test this evening and see if it has gone down or stayed the same. If it is the peak then I think according to SMEP you need to DTD today, tomorrow, the next day, wait a day, then once more!

zippityzip · 03/07/2020 14:23

@bibs124 You're good to go you ovulating goddess. Enjoy your weekend!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 14:14

Right looks it go time then.. will do another one in a bit as these tests are a bit crap! We DTD last night and SMEP says 3 days from positive test so do I need to DTD another 3 days? Shock

Is this my peak 🤔 the control line doesn't look right to me? I only managed to hold 3 hours.. going to try again for 4 hours then do my clear blue.. these OPKs are hard work 😂

@bibs124 that’s probably a sensible idea. I got a pack of Femometer opk which had 10 cheap pregnancy tests with it. And I bought 2 frer so I had them. But yeah the temptation is there to start testing now but I know that’s stupid so I’m definitely going to wait til after the weekend.

Poppy10121 · 03/07/2020 12:53

@bibs124 I had some super cheap ones from the pound shop at first but last cycle I used the Easy@Home plastic ones from Amazon with the Femometer app to record the photos of the results. The only thing i found was that with the photos, if the light wasn't good it didn't always pick up the reading properly. I have been doing them first thing in the morning and then trying to do an evening one too when it gets darker but I also pee at least every 2hrs in the day normally!

Thinking I might order the Clear Blue smiley ones this month that are supposed to show 4+ fertile days. Willing to start throwing money at this now!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 12:20

@Poppy10121 I know what you mean, everyone around me seems to be pregnant! 3 announcements across 2 days the other week was horrible especially as AF had just arrived. I'm using cheap ones at the moment, the one step ones - which since ordering I've actually seen bad reviews on but will carry on this month. I have got some clear blue ones which I'm going to use once I get a peak on these to be 100%. What ones are you using? I never realised how much I go for a wee.. im 2 hours into holding and I'm desperate lol.. don't think the coffee helped Hmm

@bibs124 I'm having wild mood swings to be honest, feeling full of hope at the start of every month armed with my OPKs, Pre-seed and vitamins and then devastated when AF shows up again. Also everyone I know seems to be announcing pregnancies at the moment. But will keep on trying! It does feel helpful to be more knowledgeable about my cycle and the OPKs have helped to reassure me that I am ovulating. What OPKs are you using? I'm considering upgrading to the ClearBlue expensive ones this month!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 11:46

@Poppy10121 sorry to hear that ☹️ hope this month is it for you. TTC is so stressful, I can’t imagine how much worse it must be after a MMC. How are you feeling?

@LT103 I try not to have pregnancy tests in the house as all I can think about towards the end of the cycle is constantly testing! Does no harm I guess but seeing so many negatives is disheartening. You’ll have to let us know how you get on!

@bibs124 I know. Def made it more difficult haha. I’m 7dpo so depends how long I hold off when I test haha. I’m thinking I’ll test just a little early at 12dpo but I have tests in a drawer upstairs so can’t guarantee I’ll not test earlier 🙈

Poppy10121 · 03/07/2020 09:52

@bibs124 it was the first time we tried SMEP yeah. I got pregnant earlier this year and had a MMC in April so we've been desperate to conceive again.

When I got pregnant before, we weren't trying anything in particular, just DTD every few days and were happy with the idea it might take a few months. Unfortunately since the MMC it's kind of taken on a lot more importance so SMEP seemed like a good idea. I might try it again this month but start a bit later now I am more sure about my ovulation day.

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 09:36

@Poppy10121 yeah I can imagine it is exhausting and don’t want DP to feel used lol! Was that your first month trying SMEP? Fingers crossed for you this month

@LT103 I didn’t even let DP touch me during the hot spell! Don’t know how you DTD at all lol! When can you test?

LT103 · 03/07/2020 09:20

@bibs124 we crashed and burned haha. Started off every day from cd8 but it was during that really hot spell and it just became a chore haha. Managed to dtd day of peak opk and 2 days before so hopefully covered ok. Lesson learned for next time 😂

Poppy10121 · 03/07/2020 09:17

@bibs124 looks promising for today/tomorrow! Good luck!

I did SMEP last month, started from CD5 as wasn't totally sure when to expect ovulation. It was a bit exhausting! And just got AF today so didn't work this time for me!

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 09:07

@zippityzip @LT103 going to be a busy weekend 😂 glad it is over the weekend as wouldn’t have the energy in the week! Doing SMEP this month but didn’t start until CD9 so doing every other day atm until I get my peak then 3 days in a row 😶 anyone else doing SMEP?

LT103 · 03/07/2020 08:37

@bibs124 looks like you will peak either today or tomorrow. Time for a fun weekend 😂

zippityzip · 03/07/2020 08:30

@bibs124 Get busy!!!! It's looking good.

zippityzip · 03/07/2020 08:29

@bibs124 App says Sunday so I'll be getting busy all weekend 😂 how are you getting on?

bibs124 · 03/07/2020 08:29

What do we think? Going to peak today potentially? That's from FMU today at the bottom

@Poppy10121 THANK YOU!!!!

Poppy10121 · 02/07/2020 14:20

@sunflowersaremyfav93 The tests are testing for the LH hormone in your wee. There should always be a control line (usually marked "C" but also its the furthest away from the wee in the test) which should always be dark once you've used it to show the test is working. Then the other line might be non-existent, faint, or darker, depending how much LH is in your wee. If both lines are the same colour you are close to your LH 'peak', if the control line is lighter than the test line then that is probably your 'peak' which means you will most likely ovulate in the next 12-36 hours. After that day the line will get fainter again. Hope that helps!

sunflowersaremyfav93 · 02/07/2020 14:02

@bibs124 No worries 😊 I wee on them but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing after 😂

Nazz10 · 02/07/2020 14:01

@zippityzip I really wouldn't worry. The fact that there is a visible line there is kind of a good thing. Mine went from what yours looks like to high within 12 hours. Couldn't believe my eyes as I didn't get anything last cycle (first cycle off the pill). I also didn't get my high until cd15 and some don't get one until even later than that so don't worry yet, you're still quite early in your cycle and everyone is different 😊

I posted a pic of my OPKs further up the thread if you want to see what mine looked like leading up to my positive for reassurance
