Need to lose weight to conceive

I am 33 and came off the mini pill in February. We were using protection until April. This cycle I have been tracking my BBT. AF is due tomorrow. I have cramps and a migraine aura so now I am out this month.

I have put on 2 stone in a year and now weigh over 16 stone. I am desperate for a baby so want to lose weight to try and concieve. I can't talk to my friends in RL about this.

I'm going to use it as a food diary and hopefully others who are in the same boat will join in.

Today I had wheetabix and a grapefruit for breakfast, lunch was a salad of lettuce, plum tomatoes, cucumber, feta, a spoonful of onion chutney and some crackers. For dinner I had chicken curry with boiled rice and a banana for a snack.

I also had 3 cups of coffee and want to cut this down to 1 in the morning and up my water intake.

Absolutely awful this weekend☹️. New day tomorrow need to stop binging. Losing weight seems so much harder as you get older

Elakiya · 20/06/2020 14:08

Urghhh I’ve had too much to eat today. I’m tempted to IF too but want to do 9-5. I’ve only ever lost weight doing IF but I find it so hard to make it a proper lifestyle change, especially with studying for exams.

custardbear · 20/06/2020 12:34

I'd say do what works for you. I hammered myself at the gym and swimming when losing weight to get pregnant- one week I went to 10 sessions
It bloody works though!
Now I have kids, not enough time to go to the gym (if they're even open lol) so have been cycling during lockdown with my DD ... who has lost weight 😆 saying thst she wasn't find anwya but had a bit of puppy fat we never spoke about - now it's gone!

Sunstar16 · 20/06/2020 12:29

@Elakiya I did the same. Back at it today. I've had 2 slices of toast and grapefruit juice. Going to have steak or scampi with sw chips with veg tonight, so it is avoiding a take away.

I caved and had ice cream whilst watching a movie 🤦🏾‍♀️. Have to try and be really good today.

I have to go and see my consultant in August /September and really wanted to be at 70kg but lockdown has plateaued my weightloss 🥺

Need to stay on track 🥺

wingingit123 · 19/06/2020 23:58

Hi @Hopeful1712 the problem with that is as soon as I eat I'm starving then 😂. I read a good book by James smith and he explains about IF and creating a calorie deficit which is what I try and do

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/06/2020 18:56

Hello, can I join in please? I'm not actually trying to conceive yet, but will be in sept/Oct. I've already got one DS, he'll be 2 in Sept. Last time it didn't take that long to get pregnant, IUD out at the start of Oct, positive test on Christmas day. I was heavy then too so we were lucky it was so quickly, about 115kg at booking. I had a great pregnancy though, only put on maybe 8kg and stayed very active throughout.

However, since DS was born I've put on a lot of weight, to the point I'm now scared to even weigh myself. I know I've got a better chance to getting pregnant if I don't weigh so much, but also, how much easier it would be on my joints if I wasn't so huge. This lock down has been very hard on my waistline!

Hopeful1712 · 19/06/2020 18:29

Hi guys, hope I am okay to join this. I’ve just come off the pill last weekend and TTC although was on the depo injection for 8 years (stopped that in Feb) so expecting it might not happen straight away. Anyways I jumped in as last year I lost 4.5s following slimming world. One thing I didn't do before was have breakfast. Consultant told me to start even if its just a banana as if you don’t your metabolism doesn't start to work and your body is conserving energy rather than start to burn it. Once I started breakfast, I started losing weight. As said, sorry to but in but I thought @wingingit123 might find it helpful. Xx

wingingit123 · 19/06/2020 18:06

@Elakiya I kind of IF 😂. I just try and have my first meal of the day as late as possible so usually 12ish then sometimes have a high protein snack in the afternoon. As I was finding I was eating breakfast for the sake of it and was always starving in the afternoon.

My cycles are anywhere from 26-32 days so I'm not sure if that's classed as irregular?

Elakiya · 19/06/2020 18:02

@wingingit123 are you doing IF? Just curious where breakfast went.

What are your cycles like by the way guys? I mean doctors always like to throw the PCOS diagnosis at anyone whose got a bit of weight to lose so was wondering if anyone had very normal cycles.

wingingit123 · 19/06/2020 17:57

Today I've had

Lunch- omlette
Tea- fish pie & beans

I've got quite a few calories left so I might have some chocolate later. I bought a few bars around 150 calories so will have one of them.

I'm due on tomorrow so just waiting 😩

Elakiya · 19/06/2020 17:26

@poptypingchef @Sunstar16
Thanks guys! Feel much better now. I always find that days 1-4 of my cycles I have to take painkillers otherwise I just feel awful.

In terms of meals I’ve had
Breakfast: Avocado and toast with chilli flakes 😋
Snack 1: Strawberries - 10 medium
Lunch : Brown rice and vegetable curry
Snack 2 : Greek yoghurt with some mango pulp
Dinner : it’s going to be a strawberry and banana smoothie

I’ve suddenly got some new found motivation 😁 aiming to get to 75kg by this time next month. It’s quite ambitious but I am going to keep going

poptypingchef · 19/06/2020 17:13

Oh donuts 😋

Stay strong. Tonight is mince and tatties for us but I’m doing well hitting my 10,000 every day - not that it’s made a difference Hmm

Sunstar16 · 19/06/2020 17:00

@Elakiya hope you feel better soon!

@poptypingchef I have told my DH no take aways. We usually have a chippy on a friday night.

I purposely bought DH donuts that I don't like so won't eat when shopping and myself a bottle of wine for the weekend lol.

Sad feel better @elakiya

I’ve hit a plateau this week - so I really need to be as good as I can!

KNUCKLE DOWN TIME!!!

Elakiya · 19/06/2020 12:06

My period just arrived how fun😭.

Food wise:

Breakfast: wholemeal toast with avocado and chilli flakes and a cup of decaf coffeee

Not snacked or anything because I just feel sick 🤢

Sunstar16 · 19/06/2020 10:35

@wingingit123 At least you tracked the ice-cream Smile

@poptypingchef and @Elakiya I am doing a big shop today and will be adding your suggestions to my list!

I watched a lot of YouTube videos on how to eat for PCOS, one woman I saw who had similar issues as I did said it’s good to keep all your carb content to a small window in your day, so she usually had the majority of her carbs for dinner.

I am trying to do something similar:

I have eggs for breakfast, soups for lunch with lentils, kale, meat and also have a roll with that.

Dinner is a smoothie

Snacks: fruits sometimes crackers.

My biggest issue is sugar... I do well for a couple of days then get a massive sugar craving and just go all out on carbs and sugar 😞

poptypingchef · 18/06/2020 19:33

@emojisarentwords and @sunstar16

Things like avacado, cabbage, broccoli, pomegranate, Brazil nuts, chai seed, eggs, grapefruit and pineapple juice and grains.

In the morning I tend to go porridge with chai seed or a smoothie with the porridge oats in it. Or eggs and avocado.

Lunchtime something like couscous with veg through it and maybe some chicken or a salad

Dinner I’ve been using pinch of nom and slimming world recipes (not following the plan) and making sure I have a good proportion of the plate a mix of vegetables.

Who knows if It will help anymore but the weight is coming off so that’s something positive.

wingingit123 · 18/06/2020 19:12

I've had

Lunch- an omlette
Snack - ice cream 🙈
Tea- spaghetti and meatballs and a slice of garlic bread

My fitness pal says it's 1403 calories.

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 19:12

Thanks @borntohula Smile

Myfitnesspal is absolutely the way forward. The fact is, if you burn more calories than you consume, you will lose weight. Good luck!

Sunstar16 · 18/06/2020 18:52

@emojisarentwords Well done for sticking to it and avoiding temptation last night! 5 stone will make such a difference.

It was such a late start because my DH dropped a can at the weekend from the top shelf of the fridge and it cracked the fridge floor. He tried to fill it with resin and it spilled on the counter top and in the fridge. It took longer to clean up than fix. Hmm It was one of those mornings.

@poptypingchef well done, you've done great to lose nearly 3 stone. Can I ask what you mean by foods geared towards conception? I'm aware of things like maca which is a food but I wouldn't normally eat it, Agnus castus, raspberry leaf tea etc. But don't know which specific foods are best for conception? I have been trying to stick to an overall healthy diet which includes all types of nutrition but would be interested to know if a particular type is better for conceiving.
