Need to lose weight to conceive

I am 33 and came off the mini pill in February. We were using protection until April. This cycle I have been tracking my BBT. AF is due tomorrow. I have cramps and a migraine aura so now I am out this month.

I have put on 2 stone in a year and now weigh over 16 stone. I am desperate for a baby so want to lose weight to try and concieve. I can't talk to my friends in RL about this.

I'm going to use it as a food diary and hopefully others who are in the same boat will join in.

Today I had wheetabix and a grapefruit for breakfast, lunch was a salad of lettuce, plum tomatoes, cucumber, feta, a spoonful of onion chutney and some crackers. For dinner I had chicken curry with boiled rice and a banana for a snack.

I also had 3 cups of coffee and want to cut this down to 1 in the morning and up my water intake.

@thunderthighsohwoe Can't believe I missed that message.

my hair is pretty much non existent now. It's ridiculous I had amazingly thick hair growing up, which I started to lose after I turned 15 (period was at 11). No one diagnosed me with PCOS even though I kept going to the doctors saying "I am bleeding between periods, my periods are heavy, I am growing hair everywhere but my head!". The doctor just did a blood test and went "you're iron deficient" and I was on iron tablets :( Really upset now that here I am 15 yrs from then and don't really have any hair :( Thankfully my hair covers most of my head so I can throw on some extensions and get away with it :( Hopefully after I conceive I can go back to the doctor and ask to go on the pill and see if I can get my hair back :(

Lost track quite a lot on the later half of my cycle last time. Now on CD2 and eating everything in sight. Got to be healthy from tomorrow. Will have to start exercising CD 3.

thunderthighsohwoe · 12/07/2020 12:54

@Elakiya Thanks, she’s a darling (even when she’s up at 5am every day)!

Yes, I suffer from all kinds of symptoms like hair loss (my hair is very thick luckily so not noticeable), extreme facial hair etc. All settled enormously during pregnancy and beyond, though had started to creep back recently.

A lot of symptoms I know do go once the weight is lost, but until you have a diagnosis and know exactly how to eat to lose weight - basically the opposite of SW, WW etc - then it’s hard to get to that point!

For reference, my BMI has crept up again recently, so am back on the diet fully. I’m not now some kind of super thin Wonder Woman!

Elakiya · 12/07/2020 06:40

@thunderthighsohwoe your first IVF was successful and now you have a beautiful baby. Good luck on the second. Hopefully you’ll be pregnant soon.

Elakiya · 12/07/2020 06:39

@thunderthighsohwoe have you had hair loss? I’ve complained about PCOS since I hit puberty, my gp at the time was awful. I’ve lost so much hair. I wonder if it will grow back.

thunderthighsohwoe · 12/07/2020 06:25

@Elakiya My PCOS is fairly severe - hence the IVF - so hopefully you shouldn’t have to be as strict as me! Also, it has the downside that when I do have a treat meal my IBS goes haywire 😩

Elakiya · 11/07/2020 21:36

@thunderthighsohwoe I wish I could be as strict :(. But I am going to try limiting my carbs to lunch and see if the weight is lost quicker.

thunderthighsohwoe · 11/07/2020 18:47

@Elakiya I have officially diagnosed PCOS and insulin resistance. My consultant for IVF (currently going through second round, already have a 19mo from first round) told me about low carb and IF and it’s the only way I’ve ever lost weight since puberty! Exercise, SW, WW all made me gain weight.

It is a lifestyle change. I don’t eat until 12, then have a carb free lunch (usually something like a few cubes of cheddar and walnuts), then nothing again until dinner. During the week we eat healthily anyway (DP is an excellent cook, does everything from scratch), then at the weekend normally have one treat dinner. Tonight is a curry, which is not my favourite but hey ho!

I do drink a lot of sugarless tea and Pepsi Max to keep me going through a busy day at school (primary teacher) on v little food, so they are my vices!

Elakiya · 11/07/2020 18:36

Ok here goes

Breakfast: Avocado and cheese on rye bread
Lunch: Basmati rice ( I should not be having this but had run out of brown rice) with salad and chicken curry
Dinner: Smoothie
Snacks: a slice of cake and some crisps 😅 ( better improve tomorrow)
Drink : 3 cups of tea ( really need to stop this as I add milk and sugar!)

So all in all today has been a pretty rubbish day for me. Will try again tomorrow

Pleased you found it useful “Elakiya“ Smile

mackjm20 · 10/07/2020 19:16

@Elakiya Thank you! Such a good idea as it helps to keep focused :)

Elakiya · 10/07/2020 18:38

@DrinkFeckArseGirls Thanks for letting me know about the Zero app. I absolutely love it. Been using it since you said and its really really good :)

@mackjm20 Welcome! I think I am going to come one here everyday to share what I eat again. I feel like that's motivation because I then feel bad about writing something terrible I've ate

mackjm20 · 09/07/2020 21:20

Hiya would you mind if I joined please :)

I an currently trying to lose as much weight as possible during the next 12 weeks before starting ttc :) just want to be as healthy as possible before we start. have read through all of the posts and feel so motivated already 💛

poptypingchef · 05/07/2020 14:06

Well done @wrensandrobins amazing!!

I use MFP and did the sugar cutout. I found it easier not too eat sweet things now as I tell myself it’s not worth it.

@Elakiya funnily enough there is a YouTuber who has recently started a weight loss challenge. She is trying different fitness challenges to see what difference it has on her weight/inches and she mentioned her. Off out for my walk now, aiming for approx 18k steps but only need 15k to stay on track. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

wrensandrobins · 05/07/2020 10:10

Hi all,

I am also wanting to lose weight to conceive, had around 4 stone to lose, and have lost 1 and a half stone during lockdown using mfp and cutting sugar cold turkey out my life, I plan to reintroduce the sugar in small amounts now i am 8 weeks in to the diet, as occasional treats, more for the sustainability of keeping going long term!

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 05/07/2020 04:16

I can recommend the Zero app. It’s easier to stick to your fasting when you are accountable to something. Also they have lots of info on IF there, videos and articles. I use the free version but you can pay if you want more features.

Elakiya · 05/07/2020 04:05

@poptypingchef You’re giving me motivation to keep going! I’ve been doing YouTube workout videos. Have you tried the Chloe ting 2 week challenge? I haven’t gotten abs from it but it is a real workout 🏋️‍♀️

poptypingchef · 04/07/2020 23:41

Thanks @Elakiya I have a few routes round my area that are mostly tree covered im sucking it up for now 😂😂😂.

You will get there, I remember when I started it was the heaviest I’d been and that the only way to get there was to commit to gradually working it off. When lockdown happened I was worried that without my gym teachers I would lose focus so made a concerted effort to do all I could not to slip. Is been hard as DH is in the house and loves biscuits 😂😂😂

Elakiya · 04/07/2020 21:27

@poptypingchef that’s amazing and you don’t even have far to go. I have another 2 stone :( seems like miles away.

The weather has been so bad I don’t know whether I’d have the motivation to do 11k steps lol. But good on you! Keep going!

poptypingchef · 03/07/2020 09:19

@Elakiya I’ve lost just over 3 stone altogether and I’d like to take it down another 1/2-1 stone ideally.

I’ve signed up to the DiabetesUK 1million steps challenge which runs 1st July - end sept. 92 days with an average of nearly 11k steps a day.

Elakiya · 03/07/2020 08:30

@poptypingchef well done on the 2lb loss every bit helps. I went the opposite and gained about 3kg in quarantine so trying to lose that first.

How far are you from your healthy weight?

Drink about 2-3 litres of water. I try to have a 500ml bottle every 3 hours.

poptypingchef · 01/07/2020 22:19

Well I weighed in this morning and I’ve dropped 2lbs so we’ll see how I fair. Would be nice if this is the start of the final stretch.

Had porridge, SW BBQ pasta (leftovers) and a half portion of pinch of nom chicken ham and leek pie with veg.

Need to drink more water!

Elakiya · 01/07/2020 21:31

@poptypingchef Plateaus are the worst. Maybe do something slightly different to see if you can get off the plateau?

I’ve religiously been doing IF 8-4 for a week now and have lost 1.5kg so fingers crossed it stays this way.

poptypingchef · 30/06/2020 10:23

How is everyone getting on?

Still hovering on this plateau but at least I am not gaining. Would love to shift 1 more stone

Rumtopf · 24/06/2020 23:03

Let's hope so. I'm currently 4 days post transfer of our one and only embryo from our first IVF cycle! I certainly feel better in myself than I have in ages. Although I did have a cheeky chicken kebab for dinner tonight the rest of the day was really good, and even the kebab isn't really that bad.
