Hey

This is my 9th month TTC my first baby and I'm 33. I got static smiley on Friday on OPK, and now I'm in my TWW - again! I'm currently on furlough so the wait seems even longer and more painful and I definitely end up going a bit crazy 🤪

Anyone else in similar boat and need keeping sane?! Also any TTC tips you've heard of? I will literally try anything at the moment haha.

@CAG14 our highlight will be fish & chips tomorrow too 🙌🏻 Hopefully at the seaside if it stays dry! I really get so excited about takeaways!

Faith82 · 10/07/2020 11:29

Well, I’m 11 dpo no symptoms and took a test this morning and def negative. Due period on Monday. Would you take that as a pretty definitive negative? I wana drink this weekend now as being told of possible redundancies on Tuesday and honestly just wana get drunk now! 🙈😭 I really hoped it would be a bfp this month as well, pretty gutted even though I knew I had literally not a single symptom. But def doing smep next time!

CAG14 · 10/07/2020 10:41

@Pippy20 I think you're right. Apparently in the afternoon around 2pm is the best time to test with them. But the CB says after your longest sleep! Oh wow I might head off to amazon then...

We are having a fish and chip dinner tonight from our local which I love so it is a real highlight haha (god I'm old) and then tomorrow heading over to my brother in laws house for a bit so hope it is nice weather!

@CAG14 I always had a real hit and miss relationship with the IC opks - I’d get zilch on them and then a smiley on the CB. I think time of day definitely makes a difference and they do say start testing twice a day as soon as you get a smiley - I never bother with that mainly as cb is so expensive - although saying that on amazon a box of 20 were only £16 at the minute instead of £28 - bargain! Can’t even imagine how much money that company makes annually 😂

What’s everyone up to this weekend? Weather looks like it’s going to be nice so I plan on sitting in the garden and reading for most of it :-)

CAG14 · 10/07/2020 10:14

@LMA27 I also think maybe FMU doesn't work as well on the IC so may have been why it was lighter yesterday but CB was solid smiley. Yes we DTD yesterday morning but haven't done it today yet so hopefully will get an afternoon sesh in 🤣

@Pippy20 people just love being rude don't they!!! Ergh even if I thought something I just wouldn't say anything as you never know what people are going through

OP posts:
Pippy20 · 10/07/2020 08:29

@LMA27 Or just could say you are hungover from the previous night?! That’s one I’ve used before lol. People are so bloody nosy aren’t they - I wouldnt dare say anything even if I did notice someone was drinking less or non alcoholic 😂

I remember once going to a hen party and it was seriously lame so I nursed a beer and then decided to just have soft drinks as it wasn’t worth a hangover - especially as I had to sleep on the floor. There was also a tiny hot tub where we were staying which I couldn’t be arsed with going in - so the whole night I had comments about ‘obviously being pregnant’ because I wasn’t drinking alcohol or sitting in a warm tub of everyone’s dead skin and germs lol - and this was before we even started ttc!

LMA27 · 10/07/2020 08:11

@CAG14 yeah probably a good idea! I could maybe just nurse one alcoholic drink so it looks like I’ve been drinking all night when In fact I’ve been downing the water haha but if AF arrives I’ll be drowning my sorrows!

Well that’s good news that it makes more sense why IC wasn’t dark until today but you’ve covered DTD both days anyway didn’t you so should be all good 🤞🏼 Do you feel better about it now?

CAG14 · 10/07/2020 07:43

@stabal thanks for the advice chick

@LMA27 God I always worry about this as I'm always a "drinker" and my friends know this. However a meal out isn't too bad as it is more common for people not to drink with a meal than say a bar or party. I wouldn't make a big deal about it and just order a soft drink. If anyone says anything just say you are having a dry couple of weeks as you drank quite a bit during lockdown??

Sooooo the opk drama continues guys 😆. I got a positive IC this morning so it is just a day later than the CB after all. This has actually reasured me that I haven't missed my peak and have just ovulated a lot later than normal this month!!

@Mia1985x @Pippy20 @Stabal girls I didn’t know this about FMU and SMU, but I’ve never really got that far in this process, AF usually arrives.
As if this process isn’t confusing enough then we also have to think about the best time to take a pregnancy test, why is it so cruel.
if I ever get BFP I’m still going to disbelieve it anyway haha do we think SMU is the better bet?

Me and OH have just agreed to go for a meal 31st for a friends birthday with a couple of others, it’s the first tome we will have been out in what feels like forever. AF is due before then so at least I’ll know if I can have a drink, but now I’m worried, if I am pregnant how do I get out of the not drinking situation... But I’m thinking too far ahead how aren’t I 🤦🏼‍♀️

Stabal · 09/07/2020 13:48

@CAG14 I have the femometer bluetooth one but it's really not necessary, they have a cheap one that you just enter the temperature manually to the femometer app after you've read it

@Mia1985x when I was pregnant my strongest lines weren't FMU. I tested twice a day over 3 days because I couldn't believe it and they were always stronger on SMU. But I do drink a lot of water before bed and in between FMU and SMU I wouldn't have drank as much so I dunno if that's anything to do with it. Plus I've said before my sleep is awful so sometimes when I waken during the night I'd go for a pee too so maybe not best to listen to me actually 😂

Pippy20 · 09/07/2020 13:20

@Mia1985x I always wonderEd this, and when I was pregnant before I tested the day my period should have been due with a frer using FMU and got a strong positive almost immediately - then in the afternoon (because I didn’t quite believe it!) I tested again using a Tesco test and got a negative - I think it was probably a combination of the fact your urine is more diluted during the day and Tesco tests being a bit shit possibly! Because I still wasn’t quite convinced I then did two clear blue tests the day after - slightly overkill but I wanted to be sure 😂

Mia1985x · 09/07/2020 12:59

@Stabal I'm with you on that, I find it utterly fascinating. Even though it is frustrating this TTC business.

What's everyones thoughts on FMU not actually being the best for pregnancy tests? I've read some interesting articles showing much higher % of positives early in confirmed pregnancies for not using FMU.

CAG14 · 09/07/2020 12:55

@stabal what thermometer did you buy? I will be asking for all the advice on here!

OP posts:
Stabal · 09/07/2020 12:52

@CAG14 I'm excited for you to try the temping! I'm pathetically involved in studying charts, it's just so crazy to me how everything works. A lot of people just assume you get pregnant and don't think about all the background stuff going on in your body

CAG14 · 09/07/2020 12:47

@Mia1985x yes I think that is what happened and I ovulated early and missed my rise as used the CB too late. But I am definitely going to buy a thermometer for next month and start temping.

OP posts:
Mia1985x · 09/07/2020 12:45

@butterfly5291 that's s shame but good they got back to you and I'm sure you will get something appear in the future as they are doing them all the time. You can pick up basal thermometers on Amazon from about £6, I would def say it's worth getting one 👍🏻

Mia1985x · 09/07/2020 12:42

@CAG14 that is so confusing but good to know so thanks for sharing. I have been temping for over a year now and taking this freak current cycle out of the equation my spike in temp has always happened either 1 or 2 days after the static smile on CB. It's definitely handy to temp and see if your body follows a pattern, you will get used to it quickly I'm sure.

Ive also wondered with the CB taking your first reading of the month as a 'base' and the following days being dependent on that initial reading, what if by the time you do your first CB your LH has already started to gradually rise. Could CB be looking for a bigger surge and that way miss it or show it alot later? Does that make sense?

I used to always not want to waste the expensive CBs so sometimes started them later than the recommended day but think this method actually hinders what they are doing.

CAG14 · 09/07/2020 11:48

@stabal yeah I think temping is the way forward for next month and going to try SMEP as well. Driving me mad all this.

OP posts:
Stabal · 09/07/2020 11:43

@CAG14 ahhh that is incredibly frustrating. Do you think you'll try temping?

@butterfly5291 ic just means internet cheapie!

butterfly5291 · 09/07/2020 11:11

Sorry if this is stupid question but what does IC stand for?
I'm so impatient....I've still not had any signs I'm going to ovulate any time soon.

@Mia1985x femometer emailed back to say they have enough testers but will email in the future big anything comes up. Worth a try though!

CAG14 · 09/07/2020 10:59

@Mia1985x @LMA27 to add more confusion I asked this question by creating a separate thread with just this question and someone replied with this:

"I had exactly this. Solid smiley at CD10 and nothing on an IC then positive on an IC at CD16. The IC was right and the CB was wrong. I am 100% sure of this as i also track my BBT and, more importantly, I fell pregnant that month and now have a baby.
As an aside, I got another solid smiley when I tested on the CB at CD16 but if I had trusted CB then I wouldn't have had my baby! Keep testing with the ICs and don't trust to the fact that you've already ovulated this month"

Soooooo this is a head fuck haha. I'm now worried I actually ovulated on CD10 which is when I got my darkest line but was the first day I did the CB (which is always blank the first day). I didn't DTD until CD13 as that is when I got first flashing smiley. I have never ovulated as early as CD10 but maybe the supplements I've been taking have altered this? Who the feck knows!!!!

LMA27 · 09/07/2020 09:05

@CAG14 actually laughed out loud at your message haha I totally know what you mean, I don’t use the fertility lube but everything else just made me laugh as I’ve thought the same before 😂 no one told me When TTC I’d be willing touching and examining my cm trying to figure out my cycle haha
You’ve DTD today and planning tomorrow so I’d definitely say you’re in with a chance and what @Mia1985x said does actually make sense.

CAG14 · 09/07/2020 08:43

@LMA27 weirdly I looked at my IC 10 mind after and it has gone a bit darker. Still not enough to be positive but a bit darker than yesterday. I think you're right given the price of them! This sounds rank but I find it hard to know with EWCM whether it is semen/the fertility lube/or my own fluids as we have been DTD pretty much every day. The conceive plus lube we use is very similar to EWCM for obvious reasons.

@Mia1985x I remember you saying you had similar. I think you may be right. I think it is reassuring to see the solid smiley anyway even if it is later on this month. I was getting a bit fed up yesterday! We DTD this morning and will do again tomorrow morning to try and make sure we catch it.

OP posts:
Mia1985x · 09/07/2020 08:31

@CAG14 I have had that happen to me before too. Now call me crazy but this is the reasoning I went with for it - so your IC is looking only for LH surge which they say is normally 24-36 hours before ovulation. However, the CB is detecting E3G as well and the static smile specifically indicates your peak fertility day. Therefore, you could technically get a positive strip with your peak LH but by the time the next day arrives your LH surge has happened but it is still your peak fertility day. Does that make any sense? Ive seen quite a few other people saying they have experienced this.

LMA27 · 09/07/2020 08:30

@CAG14 hmm that is strange... I feel like we should trust the cb opk rather than the ic due to how expensive they are, you’d think higher priced is better quality, but it’s weird they usually match up but not this month..
I’d say DTD anyway as you have a solid smiley, it’s detected something there so don’t waste it :) but again sorry for TMI but do you have any cm as this sometimes can indicate where you’re at in your cycle?
