False positive or false negative??

I need abit of advice. I’m on the pill and my husband and I are NOT TTC. However AF was due on the 6th and there is no sign, I’ve also really went off some foods and I haven’t been able to have dinner in a couple of days.
So I took a test last night (top one) BFN.
Then I took one this morning (middle) with first pee, looks like a BFP (big fat positive).
Then I took one later morning on a clear blue and BFN.
Am I going mad or am I just testing wrong? Am I testing too early? Or is it a false positive?

Any help is appreciated!!

False positive or false negative??

@Lazydaisydaydream

Yeah I get what you mean, so if so I could be testing earlier that what I think I am and therefore giving inaccurate results on different tests.
I suppose only time will tell, it’s a case of waiting a couple of days and maybe testing again or seeing if AF turns up. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’d rather just know for sure it’s driving me mad day to day 😂

Strictly speaking you're not late at all. The bleed from your pill free week is a withdrawal bleed as a result of the sudden hormone drop when you stop taking the pill.

A period is as a result of you natural hormone cycle when you release and egg and it doesn't get fertilised/implanted. That's why you can sometimes test before your period is due because ovulation and fertilisation happens roughly 2 weeks before your period would be due and implantation happens somewhere in the week before your period is due.

In your case we'd have no idea when you might have ovulated, cause technically you shouldn't have at all, so no idea how early in the pregnancy you are if you are pregnant.

The fact your withdrawal bleed is 4 days late and you had that very strong blue middle test does make me think you definitely could be pregnant though.

Did you miss any pills at all in the past month? Or take any later/earlier than usual? Or any illnesses?

I'm curious to see your FRER tomorrow. That will give you a conclusive answer if taken with FMU as it's 2 days after the first 'positive' so I reckon you should see a very clear line if you are pregnant.

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 10/06/2020 08:42

How many FRERS did you order? I would be so tempted to do one this afternoon if I were you 😂

Lazydaisydaydream · 10/06/2020 08:39

@mumof2girls94 I'm not entirely sure how the pill works but it could be possible that you've ovulated later than you think and therefore not as "late". So if the reason the pill has failed is because you missed one or were sick a week into your pack, that would then trigger ovulation rather than it being in the usual time frame? Not sure if that makes any sense but could explain the tests!

Mumof2girls92 · 10/06/2020 08:15

@Lazydaisydaydream I just read that people have had a lot of false negatives with digital ones if they’re early on. I have got some FRER ones turning up today so I will use one of them tomorrow morning to test. Yeah the pill when you have a break, I was on my break when I realised my period was late....still waiting 4 days on 👀 so I would be due to take the next back tomorrow. But yeah I’ll delay that until I’m sure what’s going on.

@JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert I thought that too, I have had evap lines etc before so I doubted myself but to me it doesn’t look like an evap line. It looks like quite a clear positive.

I’ve seen online people testing before they miss their periods etc and getting accurate results, so I would have thought mine would be pretty accurate 4 days late? But maybe it’s just a case of waiting a couple of days more.

Sorry just seen your update. How strange, the middle one you did certainly looks positive!

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 10/06/2020 07:59

Have you done another one this morning OP?

Lazydaisydaydream · 10/06/2020 07:54

@mumof2girls92 the digital tests are less sensitive so show up later on. I was getting strong positives on FRER and still showing not pregnant on a digital (although that did end in miscarriage so there may have been another factor). Really all you can do is wait and test again in a few days.

Is it the pill where you have a week break? When are you due to start taking the next pack? I would personally hold off on taking anymore until I knew for definite I wasn't pregnant.

Mumof2girls92 · 10/06/2020 07:50

So I took a clear blue digital test this morning with FMU. And it came up “not pregnant” so I would take that as pretty accurate right??

It’s ok, I was a teen mum, and then in my early 20’s went on to have another child. So I have two children already with my husband. If I am pregnant, It’s not the end of the world, every baby is a blessing. It’s just not planned. But will be very welcomed Smile

It does sound like you are maybe pregnant. I hope this isnt terrible news for you and that you have support with any choices you make x

Mumof2girls92 · 09/06/2020 14:15

I thought about the difference in the diluting of the wee as it’s early days. I’ve ordered some Early Response ones off of amazon that should arrive tomorrow so I may need to wait until the FMU day after tomorrow (if AF hasn’t came) to try on those.

I’ve had evap lines etc before but not one that has ever looked like the middle one, as it’s quite blue and thick. So I can only imagine it’s the difference from FMU and more diluted urine.

Since being on the pill in January, my periods are pretty bang on, although I don’t track them often. But from calculating from when my last one was, it would appear I’m 3 days late. Which isn’t normal for me. I’m normally a day out by the latest.

Do you always have regular periods to the day? The middle one definitely looks positive to me and false positives are less likely unless you're taking certain medications I think. I'd give your GP a call for a blood test

Curiosity101 · 09/06/2020 13:09

Last night will probably have been diluted urine which would explain a possible false negative.

The middle one was FMU which is the best to use if you're testing early.

The bottom one will probably be diluted urine and explain a possible false negative again.

So it is all potentially explainable. My recommendation would be to get hold of a FRER or other early response test and test again first thing tomorrow morning with FMU.

ForeverBubblegum · 09/06/2020 13:09

The first wee of the morning has the most hormones, so possibly there was just enough for that test, but no quite enough in your next wee.

I'd try again tomorrow morning with a first response (they're the most sensitive), but I think it's quite likely you are pregnant. Sorry that's not the answer you want, hope your ok.

MummyMilla · 09/06/2020 13:03

The middle one defo looks +ve to me! Could be a chemical pg - I've just had one which started in a similar way.

You v rarely get a false +ve and that middle one defo looks +ve!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 09/06/2020 13:03

Your best bet would be to get one of the early response ones and try that.

If you use the cheapies to test daily and they keep varying I would call your GP and ask them to test bloods. If you are pregnant, my understanding is cheapies should get stronger.

First morning urine will give you the most accurate results for any, as your wee is less diluted
