Anyone TTC after stopping the pill?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to mumsnet and a newbie to TTC.
My partner and I are TTC after deciding to postpone our wedding to end of summer 2021 (was originally May this year) due to covid. Our plan was to TTC after marriage but we’re so impatient and thought we would give it a go now.
I have been on the pill since I was 16 (I am now 27). Switched to implant in October 2017 then got it removed in January this year to go back onto the pill. Anyway, I stopped taking the pill on 13th May. However... I had gone straight onto the next pill pack to avoid the withdrawal bleed 7 days prior to this so hadn’t had a bleed for 5 weeks. Had a withdrawal bleed 16th-19th May. I have been checking CM, no EWCM that I’ve noticed yet. Have also been using ovulation test strips daily and all been negative so far.
I’m using the Clue app (always have done since switching to implant to track periods) and it’s saying that I’m currently in my fertility window with today being my most fertile day yet no signs or positive ovulation test. Could the extra 7 days of pill-taking messed up my cycle more than it would have done coming off the pill?

Anyone else TTC after stopping the pill? Or have conceived? What are your experiences? Any tips?

Hope you don't mind me joining in. I came off mini pill after 2.5 years on 28th June. Finally got first bleed on the 24th July. Not sure if it's AF or not but she is on our way out so I guess this is technically the start of cycle one. I'm 35 and trying for our first, I've got some OPKs so I can work out if I'm ovulating or not.

Freckle1 · 30/07/2020 17:06

@MintGreenLife It is exciting! I didn't have any periods on the two months that I was on the mini pill, I did before that on the combination pill.

Do you think my next bleed will be a withdrawal bleed though or a real period? I find this a bit confusing because it seems like I've just skipped the withdrawal bleed. Surely you can't have a withdrawal bleed a month later? Not sure though, it's so confusing.

@mintgreenlife @Nazz10 I think you're both right! I need to be more patient and wait a bit longer before trying to track :)

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 15:36

@MintGreenLife I'm hoping so!

Yeah I know what you mean but if you get a BFN then technically there is no baby to harm (yet). I think as long as you don't over do it you should be fine to have a few glasses of wine. Let us know how it goes!

OP posts:
MintGreenLife · 30/07/2020 15:31

@Nazz10 highly unlikely they are both false positives!! I expect you'll have another BFP tomorrow ☺️

I'm contemplating testing tomorrow as my brother and his new girlfriend are coming to stay with us for the weekend and I want to know if it's Ok to have a couple of glasses of wine or not, but then I think testing isn't going to give me any answers as if it's negative I'll still feel like it was too early to test and then will still be worried about drinking 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lots of people have said it's Ok to have a couple of drinks in the TWW, but just don't want to do anything wrong 😕 Xx

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 15:27

@Freckle1 I know it's probably really frustrating waiting around for the unknown but I think it's better for you to wait until AF come and to only put facts into your app so that everything is as accurate as it can be. Unfortunately the pill does all kinds of evil things to people's bodies when we stop taking it. I don't think I'll ever go back on it again that's for sure. Thank you, I'll keep you posted 😬

@MintGreenLife thank you. I'm going to test again tomorrow just to see if there is still a faint line there or if these tests are duds. What are the chances that both of them I took today are duds? 🤔
Oh that's amazing!! So thrilled for you, even if it did happen late. At least it's happened now 😃 when are you going to test?

OP posts:
MintGreenLife · 30/07/2020 15:04

@Nazz10 eeeek congrats! Keep us posted, when are you going to test again? I finally ovulated on CD36 and am now 8DPO! Feel thrilled to have just made it this far to be honest.

Hi @Freckle1 great you decide to come off the pill ☺️ That's frustrating you haven't had your withdrawal bleed, did you used to her bleeds on your type of pill?

As temping as it can be to start inputting data into your apps, I second what the others have said. I think were you to add in that you've had AF you might just end up feeling frustrated when the app is predicting ovulation day and AF etc and you're in a completely different situation. Plus I think without having a full cycle yet the predictions wouldn't be helpful in any way. When I came off the pill I did use an app to try and predict AF, and after inputting my my withdrawal bleed it was just by chance that AF came on the predicted day, since then it's been way off, so it's not all that helpful to be honest. Hope you get your withdrawal bleed soon xx

Freckle1 · 30/07/2020 14:45

@SVC11 ah that makes sense, thanks for letting me know. I wish I could do that but I didn't have a breakthrough bleed. :(

@Nazz10 It is exciting! I was on the mini pill for two months, before that the combination pill for 5 years, before that the implant, before that the combination pill. I've basically been on something ever since I was 18 and I'm now 34 haha. It feels weird not having to take something every morning anymore.

That's good to know that you wouldn't recommend that, maybe I should just stop trying to track until AF arrives...

Hopefully if you test again in a few days it will be a BFP! :) Wishing you baby dust. x

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 12:15

Hi @Freckle1, exciting that you've decided to stop taking the pill to TTC! How long have you been on it? I personally wouldn't put your first pill-free day as cd 1. I think it might create some confusing predictions and may just lead to disappointment for you.
I'm sure I read on another thread somewhere about AF after stopping the pill with no breakthrough bleed. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I'm not getting excited yet. I'm still in doubt but thank you 😊 x

@Freckle1 I used day 1 of my breakthrough bleed as cd1 when it happened. But as you say v difficult to know when/if anything is happening until you have a proper period. I did use opks straight away after coming off the pill and got an lh surge pretty soonish but wasn't charting bbt so no idea if I actually ovulated in the first couple months...

Freckle1 · 30/07/2020 11:30

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking for a bit and thought it was time to join. After some great advice from @MintGreenLife and others about when to go off the pill if wanting to TTC in September/ October, I went off the pill on the 12th of July. Since then, no breakthrough bleed or anything but the last 14 days I’ve had super bad PMS, sore nipples, cramps, lower back pain etc. Waiting for AF. I’ve been using Ovia. I was wondering, do you think it would help with Ovia’s predictions if I recorded the day I stopped the pill as a period day, making it cycle day 1? Even though I didn’t get any breakthrough bleeding? Not really sure what my body’s going to do next but this thread has taught me to expect the unexpected when going off the pill that’s for sure! I hope my pms fades soon!

I had EWCM and felt very frisky two days after going off the pill so I may have ovulated but my tests hadn’t arrived yet at that point so I can’t be sure. Not sure if that would make my cycle shorter than it would be if I marked the day I went off the pill as period day 1. I guess it’s probably pointless trying to work out what to put down until I get an actual period, but I’m such a planner that I just can’t help myself!

@Nazz10 that’s so exciting! Fingers crossed for you!

Feel quite silly posting these actually. You probably can't even see it on either of them. I've convinced myself they're not BFPs at this point

@SVC11 I will probably test again either tomorrow or Friday because I'm not sure if the lines have colour. I'm not even sure if the lines are even there 😂 OH saw the line on the IC but not the FRER. I'll attach a picture to see what you think. Don't worry, if you think it's a BFN I can take it as I'm in denial anyway.

That's good about your temps! Fingers crossed they stay high for you! I had a dip 2 days ago (on 7dpo) and thought oh god, here comes AF way too soon again. But then the next day went straight back up. My temps have been a little up and down but not dropped below cover line (yet)

OP posts:
SVC11 · 30/07/2020 09:01

Still high that was supposed to say 🙄

SVC11 · 30/07/2020 08:59

Ahhh @Nazz10 that's so exciting keep testing and keep us updated? Will you leave it for a couple days to test again? I deffo had my bbt spike a couple days ago and 2 days later its still HUGH... Every morning I'm gonna be praying for that high temp now lol. X

Nazz10 · 30/07/2020 08:22

Ladies, so I'm 9dpo. No spotting whatsoever (had it from 7dpo last cycle) so thought vitamin b6 must be working well. But decided to do an IC this morning and saw the faintest line and they have never done that before. They have always been stark white. So did an FRER and think I have a faint line on that too! But can't be too sure and they are real squinters!

OP posts:
SVC11 · 28/07/2020 16:46

Ah cool, yeah I had a small temp rise this morning, let's just see if it goes up again or stays up. Really hoping this month is the month. No idea what I'm doing wrong if not, although I know chances are slim no matter what x

Nazz10 · 28/07/2020 16:25

@SVC11 yes hopefully means we're ovulating. I got a temp rise the day after albeit a small one but my app identified it as ovulation so I'm going with that

@MintGreenLife no they're not looking at hormone levels. At least I don't think so anyway. She was concerned with the spotting before and after AF and I had slight cramps after my last day of spotting so she made me do a pregnancy test which I knew was going to be negative but just to rule out an ectopic. She said she wanted to check my full blood count and vitamin levels to see if there is any deficiencies there that would explain the fatigue. But she also wants me to have a smear test (which is due anyway) and an ultrasound 😳 hopefully everything will be ok though

Well I know it's only half way through the day but I haven't had any spotting today which I had last cycle so fingers crossed it stays that way. But I did have a little bit of a drop in temp this morning although it's still above cover line

OP posts:
MintGreenLife · 27/07/2020 21:57

@Nazz10 it's been pretty annoying but never mind, just hoping it doesn't take too long to improve! I'm not brilliant in terms of the times I temp as I usually end up getting up once or twice in the night. I set an alarm for 5.30 to take my temp and then if I wake up earlier I just do it then, so can be anywhere between 3ish and 5.30am.

Hope your luteal phase is better this time. That's great you're getting bloods done! I'm surprised they are happy to do them so soon after stopping the pill. Are they looking specifically at hormone levels for you, or other things because of how you've been feeling? X

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:51

@Nazz10 yeah sometimes it makes me double over.... Surely this means we are ovulating?

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:50

@Nazz10 I've been taking a small increase in b6 too this month so will see if it affects ovulation... I'm hoping not... And it just extends my lp. Hubbys gone away now so hoping ovulation isn't delayed... Minefieellldd

Nazz10 · 27/07/2020 21:46

@SVC11 sorry, posted this after I saw yours. It's my first cycle tracking BBT too. How are you finding it? I also get pain when I ovulate. First cycle felt nothing. Second cycle had very strong pains on the left side and this cycle had very strong pains on my right side. Last cycle I couldn't move off the couch for a few hours and it worried me a little bit but this cycle wasn't as bad

OP posts:
Nazz10 · 27/07/2020 21:42

@SVC11 I'm currently on cd23, 6dpo in cycle 3 at the moment. Cycle 2 had a 7-8 day luteal phase. Spotting before and after AF so all in all bleeding for 9 days. Spoke with GP and having bloods on Friday (also due to fatigue and low mood). This cycle I have been taking B6 in addition to seven seas trying for a baby. Will know by tomorrow if it's made a difference as was cd24 when I started spotting last cycle. Fingers crossed I don't.
How are you getting on?

@MintGreenLife ugh I feel frustrated for you ☹️ I have been temping this cycle for the first time. I started off good, setting my alarms for the same time as I wake up for work but then that slowly phased out and just took my temp when I woke up (fully aware that they would not give me accurate results - don't know why I done it). So I've used the temp adjuster to try and match my temps to the same times and got a nice-ish chart (I think). I've been using 3 different apps to compare the difference in the charts. I doubt the temp adjuster is reliable as everyone is different but thought I'd just give it a go anyway 🤦🏽‍♀️

@SVC11 hey ☺️ still on my first cycle off the pill, my first AF is due Sunday and I ovulated on CD13 which i was surprised about as expected a delay so will just see what AF brings and how next cycle goes. How are you?

SVC11 · 27/07/2020 21:09

@MintGreenLife I'm supposed to ovulate today but no ewcm. I guess I'll see if my bbt goes up... I haven't measured it before so who knows... First month for everything... Deffo got pain on my side like last month but who knows.
