Anyone TTC after stopping the pill?

Hi,
I’m a newbie to mumsnet and a newbie to TTC.
My partner and I are TTC after deciding to postpone our wedding to end of summer 2021 (was originally May this year) due to covid. Our plan was to TTC after marriage but we’re so impatient and thought we would give it a go now.
I have been on the pill since I was 16 (I am now 27). Switched to implant in October 2017 then got it removed in January this year to go back onto the pill. Anyway, I stopped taking the pill on 13th May. However... I had gone straight onto the next pill pack to avoid the withdrawal bleed 7 days prior to this so hadn’t had a bleed for 5 weeks. Had a withdrawal bleed 16th-19th May. I have been checking CM, no EWCM that I’ve noticed yet. Have also been using ovulation test strips daily and all been negative so far.
I’m using the Clue app (always have done since switching to implant to track periods) and it’s saying that I’m currently in my fertility window with today being my most fertile day yet no signs or positive ovulation test. Could the extra 7 days of pill-taking messed up my cycle more than it would have done coming off the pill?

Anyone else TTC after stopping the pill? Or have conceived? What are your experiences? Any tips?

@Intrigued2020 you're welcome, its so helpful hearing others stories.
Yep i did, so i counted CD1 as the first day of my withdrawal bleed. Some say not to count it as technically its not a period but its a good starting point if you wanted to try and track, just allow your body longer though as its adjusting, but i guess when you’ve had your proper period, it will be easier to track.
Yep, so I tested every morning from CD9 i think it was and then when I started to get a bit of a second line i tested in the evenings too, just to make sure i didn’t miss my peak. I had a lot of cramps and then really bad ovulation pain. Boobs were sooo sore, nipples were super painful as well but Ive not had that this time round...but maybe Im just a while away from ovulation?
It can take a while, Im using the Femometer app along with the strips from Amazon and then i used the clear blue digital just to confirm the peak from the strips.

Its a lot to take in and so many ways it can go, you can go back to a normal cycle or have really random ones. I think its good to track as early on so you know whats happening also hopefully puts your mind at rest :) x

@Flowerkm - thank you for your response! It’s so useful to hear other people’s stories. When you talk about your CD13 and CD25 was this 13 and 25 days after you started your withdrawal bleed? Were you testing everyday for ovulation after your withdrawal bleed? I’m using the natural cycles app and I know that it takes a while to give you accurate results as it needs to get used to your cycle etc so I thought using ovulation sticks would be a good idea :)

Flowerkm · 08/08/2020 19:20

@Intrigued2020 hey! Thought Id just reply as I came off Microgynon back in June, I had my withdrawal bleed then ovulated on CD13 and then had AF on CD25 so a 24 day cycle. Bit shorter than I would have thought but I was happy it all seemed ok.

Im now on CD10 after my first natural AF so just waiting to see what happens.

Good luck and don't worry if you don't ovulate straight away your body is adjusting to so many changes, just thought Id share my experience so far xx

LouJ85 · 08/08/2020 19:06

@SVC11 @Nazz10

Thank you both for your replies. I just freaked myself out a little when I saw people's progression photos. I'm thinking I'll test again at the end of next week which will be after my period should be due. Finger crossed for a stronger line and a healthy baby so I can stop this worrying!

Intrigued2020 · 08/08/2020 18:45

Hi Everyone, this post has been so interesting and helpful for me. Like a lot of you, I have rescheduled my wedding for 2021 (October) and we wanted to TTC after the wedding this year (October 2020) but instead of waiting another year, we would like to TTC now and then hopefully I can lose the baby weight to fit into my dress by next year :) I stopped my pill (Microgynon) on the 27th of July and had my usual withdrawal bleed and I’m now waiting for my first normal period. I’m using OPK sticks and the natural cycles app to find out when I will ovulate. No positives so far though. I’m so intrigued to see if I will get pregnant before my first natural period or not. I have heard a lot of different story’s about everyone’s individual experience so I’m wondering how long it will take and when I will have my first AF.

SVC11 · 08/08/2020 17:28

@Nazz10 ha! I'm not even going to entertain the idea of twins lol!

Nazz10 · 08/08/2020 16:38

@SVC11 I would say that's a good sign. Or could also be a sign of twins I believe! 😆
Not sure when my first scan on NHS is. Waiting for midwife to call me next week. I'm definitely going to pay for an early reassurance scan at 7 weeks though. Thank you. I hope it goes well for you too! I'm sure it will for both of us!x

@LouJ85 that is a strong positive. You would most probably see progression when taking tests 48 hours apart. The tests you've taken are a little bit over 12 hours apart so you probably won't see much difference

@Freckle1 so glad your first period came! Best of luck to you in your TTC journey. Keep us posted 😊

It’s been a long time since I had a normal period off BC. I never suffered with cramps etc but I was quite heavy so this is quite unusual for me

Freckle1 · 08/08/2020 11:42

@Plm28 before you went on the pill did you typically have light periods? Before I went on the pill my periods were always three days long and very light on the last day. They’ve come back exactly the same as that now I’ve stopped. But I think some period irregularity is normal after stopping as well so if that’s not normal for you, maybe it will normalise more over time and next month will be more typical? x

Plm28 · 08/08/2020 11:20

Did anyone get super light periods after stopping the pill? I’d already had a withdrawal bleed and had a period around CD 36 but it was barely anything, just a bit of spotting. Barely needed to use tampons it was that light.

SVC11 · 08/08/2020 10:39

@LouJ85 it takes 48 to 72 ours for hcg to increase so maybe in a few days you will see an increase x

Freckle1 · 08/08/2020 10:23

Hi all, I posted a week or so ago about not having a breakthrough bleed after stopping the mini pill and waiting for AF, I thought I would post an update of my experience in case it helps anyone else. My period came 25 days after stopping the mini pill with no breakthrough bleed. Excited to finally be able to track my cycle, but not TTC for another month or two. 😊

@LouJ85 I don’t know enough about it to help but I’m hoping for the best for you! X

LouJ85 · 08/08/2020 09:09

Just to add this pic - top is 11dpo afternoon, bottom is this morning (12dpo).
Is it just me or is there no progression? And should there be? Confused

LouJ85 · 08/08/2020 09:06

Hi all. I'm now CD 26, 12 dpo (this test was done yesterday afternoon at 11 dpo). Slight nausea and tiredness but no other symptoms. 2nd cycle off the pill, only dtd once in the fertile period. Period due either Tues or Wed of next week (still not sure if I'm a 28 or 29 day cycle).

My initial excitement yesterday had now changed to anxiety that this might not be a sticky one, given I'm only CD 26. I know this is a strong line but I don't want to get my hopes up. When would a positive test be definite confirmation??

mummy2myJJ · 08/08/2020 09:04

@SVC11 congratulations!! Soo happy for you x

SVC11 · 08/08/2020 08:09

@Nazz10 I ovulated on CD 16 this time too and I usually have a 9 day luteal phase which is short. But it just means all this is very quick, picking up hcg pretty soon which would have meant a quick travel time (lol) down the fallopian tube for my egg and then quick hcg production. So I hope that's not a bad sign (like an ectopic or something) I hope everything is in the right place. Oo god yes I should ring the doctor Monday and have a chat to someone. Yes I think all the online calculators take into account a short cycle to calculate due date... Who knows. When's your first scan. Really hope it all goes well for you x

Nazz10 · 08/08/2020 07:32

@louiset93 I would maybe wait a few days to test again or use a FRER

@SVC11 I have short cycles too. Do you ovulate early then or do you have a short luteal phase? I ovulated on cd 16. I'm like you, I was excited at first and then the excitement very quickly turned into a bit of panic and apprehension. I'm due April 12th according to the midwife but then my apps are saying 8th/9th. Not sure why. Maybe because my cycles are shorter? God knows 🤷🏽‍♀️ will have to wait for first scan to know for definite though

Forgot to @ you @Nazz10

SVC11 · 07/08/2020 21:54

@Nazz10 I'm cycle day 27...i have short cycles... Usually 24 days so I'm 2 days late for me... But tomorrow being 4 weeks is a gd sign... Yeah may take another one in a week then... Its so weird.. I thought I'd see I was pregnant and be like woo! But I feel a bit apprehensive until I'm a bit further down the line. I looked up my due date if this one sticks, April 15!

louiset93 · 07/08/2020 20:35

Came off pill about 3 months ago I used OPK and only had faint positives from 20-23rd June then disappeared so assume ovulated around 23/24. Usually bang on 28 day cycle. Haven’t been doing BBT

Nazz10 · 07/08/2020 20:24

@louiset93 Hi! I'm not quite sure what to suggest really. Have you been tracking ovulation with OPKs and BBT? Have you recently stopped the pill?

Nazz10 · 07/08/2020 20:22

@SVC11 sorry forgot to tag you

OP posts:
Nazz10 · 07/08/2020 20:22

I'm currently on cd33. How about you?
I did my first digital on Sunday and it said 1-2 weeks. I changed my mind and just done my digital again 😆 and got 2-3 weeks! I'm gonna do another in 7-10 days time. Just for reassurance. Looks like we will be due around the same time!! What date did your last period start?

We were going to wait until the first scan to tell parents but then we decided to tell our immediate families (parents and siblings) because we would tell them if the worst was to happen anyway so thought may as well tell them good news now and IF it is followed by bad news then at least it's not going to be a complete shock to them and we will be well supported. I suppose it depends how well you think you would be able to hold the news in and how much support you think you'll need in the early stages.

I had cramping which seems to have eased off now but have like a full feeling down there. Starting to get tender breasts but not incredibly painful yet

SVC11 · 07/08/2020 19:58

@Nazz10 ah cool what CD are you on now. I need to just be patient now and wait until maybe a couple more weeks and check again? Do I tell my mum? Lol who knows? I have sore breasts and a bit of cramping plus I'm really tired and have to keep napping which is not really like me. What about you? X

louiset93 · 07/08/2020 19:10

Hi everyone! I’m in very similar situation to you all I think, wedding was supposed to be next weekend, now postponed to August 2021 so TTC before wedding, this is the last cycle really before I would need to reprotect as I’m bridesmaid in June! :( So I’m usually bang on with my periods, I’m now 2 days late. I did a Morrison’s test yesterday and also today, both negative. Trying to be hopeful but didn’t even have a faint line sad anyone else had similar experience and actually ended up pregnant? Don’t know when to retest either now!
