No one will remove it!

So long story short - we are hoping to TTC our third and final baby.

It's pretty much now or never - certain work opportunities and home finances etc, plus my age. And I'm so broody it's unreal.

My GP won't remove my implant, no clinic within a 20 mile radius will remove my implant.

I've called and hassled and nagged everyone. The last person I called said it'll be well over a year before their clinic is up and running again.

I know this is totally a first world problem. And it's more a whinge than seeking any kind of solution. I just had my heart set on it.

Has anyone else up and down the country managed to get their contraception sorted?

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito au had the same experience. Doctor, HV and midwives all trying to push the coil on me. We've had 4 planned pregnancies and none unplanned in 16 years of DH and I sleeping together. 22 years if we're counting no unplanned pregnancies since I began having sex

I've had the implant and had it taken out when I asked (TTC) but even then there were a lot of 'are you sure' questions Hmm. Err, yes of course I'm sure, why else would I be here?

After dd2 the health visitor kept pushing the coil. I had to get a bit rude to get her to drop it. I was 35, never had an unplanned pregnancy in over 20 years of being sexually active, and she would not stop pushing. Thankfully DH has now had a vasectomy so I don't have to deal with contraception any more. I wouldn't have anything I couldn't completely control, I've heard too many horror stories.

My implant shifted from its original position and then got embedded in scar tissue - it took almost an hour for the doctor to fish it out with much grunting from their behalf!

Would absolutely not recommend you DIY-ing it. You could do a lot of damage to yourself.

I only convinced my doctor to remove mine by threatening him that if he didn't do it, I would cut my arm open and fish it out myself.

I think unfortunately, your only option would be either a private clinic or just to sound absolutely insane when you next call the GP and threaten self-harm if they don't remove it (but obviously don't actually harm yourself!).

It's shocking how little autonomy we can be provided over our own bodies. It turned me off any longterm contraceptives forever.

Anyone have any idea if a walk in centre would remove it? I suppose if it was causing pain in your arm they would have to?

I got mine our privately for anyone looking in London (cycled there) it was £155, Fleet Street Clinic and was a very relaxing experience

I wanted it removed nowhere would. Watched you tube million times got equipment and took it out healed no problem x

@mumandcub Well the receptionist guard the doctors and nurses like guard dogs so you rarely get to speak to them but I'll give it one final go on Tuesday.

Hi, sorry I haven’t read through all the comments on here but just wanted to say that I was also in the same boat but managed to get hold of a nurse in my GP practice and explained exactly how it was making me feel, etc. She really did help and I got it out the following week. Is there anyone that may be willing to help at the practice? I know the surgeries can take them out for extreme cases x

I got impatient and cut mine out myself (this was a while ago pre-lockdown). It was fine, but once you push a bit out it’s really tricky to get a good grip of it, so I would advise a second pair of hands. Fingers crossed you get an appointment soon and won’t need to resort to this though.

That's ridiculous.

Well, it's not out yet. She said on the phone she'd have to check with the clinic that they're happy to do it (she said on the phone they should with the circumstances) but she had to ask the nurse on duty.

Hopefully they won't ring to cancel. If they do, I'll be furious.

I've always thought the implants were pretty horrific as I'd wondered if this would ever be an issue and I'm so sad you're facing it. I also had a friend and hers got 'lost' in her arm and took nearly two hours to get out and her arm was black and blue for weeks.

This is absurd.
Can you not look into going to a GUM clinic a little further out, I'd give them a call and see if anyone else would do it.

She's lying when she says it doesn't cause headaches. I have migraines from periods and the implant is causing me to bleed for 6+ week.. meaning I have on-going migraines for weeks.

@peperethecat Unfortunately you can't just turn up. On the website it says you have to call when you're outside for you're appointment and then they will come and let you in.

Final shot on Tuesday at calling both the clinic and the GP - who have BOTH been seeing patients. I'll kick off, and if I don't have an appt date on Tuesday then I'll remove myself.

It would be less outrageous if she hadn't told you that other people have had appointments but you don't meet the criteria. I think I'd be pointing out that as a non medically qualified person she is not in a position to judge whether you meet the criteria or not, and especially when she's denying that headaches can be a side effect of the implant when it is listed as the most common side effect in the guidance issued by the manufacturer.

If it's not too far you could go in and make a scene.

Get some Numbing cream in ASAP. If you can cut your own skin then I wish you good luck. I couldn't do it myself but good on anyone who can. Go for it!
