Pregnancy after MMC

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately I had a MMC on our second pregnancy last month. (I have a 1 year old)
I should of been 9 weeks at my Scan but baby was only 8 weeks 4 so it had just happened. 3 days later I had a private D&C as I didn’t want to risk the hospital/ the trauma of dealing with it at home with my little boy.
I had bleeding on and off for 2 weeks after (6th of April was the D&C) I had regular bloody tests, my last one my HCG had come down to 70 so 3 days later I got my first negative test.
I had an internal to confirm no retained pregnancy and was given the all clear to try again straight away. I’ve had cystitis this weekend to add to my problems and now I’m getting this on my tests. Had anyone experienced anything similar, what are your thoughts? Feel like my body’s just giving up on me haha! I’d love to be pregnant again but I’d just be surprised if it could all happen within such a small time scale
Thanks everyone

@leaf87 I am so sorry for your losses - it must've been horrible to go through that at the same time.

I haven't had any experience in spotting before, but that's not to say it wouldn't happen in the future. Have you spoken to your GP about B6? I don't know much about it yet...

Thanks for the vitamins recommendations ladies (@frankincense88) - it really is a great support to have others in the same boat.

Keep on posting xoxo

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 16:29

@msanne & @Frankincense88 I have been taking folic acid and vitamin D since November then while I was pregnant had very high does of it for 12 weeks from the doctor. I have carried on taking the folic acid and both myself and husband are taking the pregnacare preconception ones. We have only been taking them for a month tho.
I am also taking Iron as I lost a lot of blood in surgery and ended up staying in hospital for 2 nights.
I was considering taking more B6 as I think that can help your progesterone levels. I spotted from 6 weeks with the last pregnancey so wondered if my levels were low???
Again tho I think cortisol effects progesterone and my cortisol will have been very high as my dad died early feb and was very poorly all of January... just as we found out we were pregnant.....

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 15:16

@msanne I'm taking the Pregnacare conception and DH is taking the male version. I've been taking them since September and then Pregnacare Max when I was actually pregnant and even though I don't think they actually helped us to conceive, I have never felt so 'well'. Not had a cold or been ill for over a year (and I'm a teacher so my place of work is essentially a hotbed of germs!!)

Would be interesting to see what everyone else takes though and if there's anything else worth taking I should be buying!

msanne · 06/05/2020 15:08

@MrsTtobe - Trisomy 18 is Edwards syndrome. It is "incompatible with life" and we were strongly urged by the Medical team to have a termination. It came as a total shock to us both as I have had 2 normal pregnancies and didn't even suspect anything was wrong. We found out at our 12 week scan and I was 15 weeks by the time we terminated as the decision was a very hard one.

My cycles have always been regular - so I suppose I am lucky in that sense. although, after my "reality check" I really am not taking anything for granted and will be very hesitant and nervous whilst not only ttc but if I am able to get pregnant again quickly, throughout the whole pregnancy.

@leaf87 and @MrsTtobe - I have my fingers crossed that your AF arrives. You are both so young - I am sure you will have no issues. I'm 37 now so definitely pushing the boat out here...I've also heard that after miscarriage/ termination you also have a chance to hyperovulate....so chances of having twins is higher too!

A question for you ladies - which prenantal vitamins are you taking? I am not sure if I am overdosing atm...currently taking folic acid, daily Multivitamins and EPO.

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 12:19

Hi @msanne sorry to hear your in a similar boat it must have been awful for you.
However I must say its nice to know we are all in this together! Impressed your AF returned so quick, I am six weeks in from D&C and no sign of AF when I had a check up two weeks ago the informed me my 'ovaries were still asleep' Hmm
Had my first negative pregnancy test yesterday so would assume AF is still 4 weeks away.... that's why I am not sure I want to wait that long before trying again!!! I just want to relax enjoy not knowing for a while and see what happens.

@Frankincense88 I turn 33 next week... so keen to TTC again, most of my friends all had babies 29/30 so they have all finished now and have young children.

@MrsTtobe I am glad your OH os helping you out it's good to have support!!

Weather is great currently sat working in the garden it's great... also figure the vitamin D is good for my hormone levels!! Smile

MrsTtobe · 06/05/2020 12:18

Welcome @msanne hope you don't mind me asking, what's Trisomy 18? Never heard of that. Hope you're ok. It's so hard to go through but here has definitely made me feel better, being free to talk about how I feel without upsetting people around me.
That's good AF arrived so quickly. Shows your body back to 'normal' I'm still waiting for mine. But im hoping it will come some point over the next week so I know where i stand. Are your cycles usually regular?
Good luck and can't wait for all our baby news 🙏🙏

msanne · 06/05/2020 10:57

Hi Ladies, Just wanted to jump on this thread if that's ok.

I had to have a medical termination on the 25th March due to our baby having Trisomy 18; it was the most horrible experience of my life but I had a scan a few weeks ago and the Doctor said we could ttc after my next period as this should get rid of any pregnancy remnants. My HPT came back negative shortly afterwards.

AF arrived like clockwork on the 25th April and now we are actively ttc - although I have no idea when I am actually going to ovulate, how long it will take to get the BFP!

I wanted to join you ladies for this journey - it is so bittersweet, but I really can't think of anything else but getting pregnant again.

Sending you all lots of love xoxo

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 10:36

@Leaf87 Same for me really - I only have one 'mum' friend who caught first time on her honeymoon and all my other friends are single really (I'm 31, TTC #1). Colleagues at work are all much older and have grown up children!

I will definitely be making the most of the nice weather this weekend with a prosecco or two in the garden I think! Xx

MrsTtobe · 06/05/2020 10:35

@Leaf87 yes it's definitely comforting having people go through this with you. We can all help each other along the way and hopefully all end up with babies by the end of it! 😊🙏

I think the lockdown has good and bad. Bad being can't see my mom and had to go through the scan / hospital etc on my own. But having my oh here at home has been a blessing. I couldn't have looked after myself those first 2 days let alone look after my kids aswell. 😔 x

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 10:25

Girls ( @MrsTtobe @Frankincense88 @Bells993) it's so nice to speak to women who are in similar situations. All my friends that have children none of them had a miscarrage and all met there partners and husbands younger than I am so already have children. They have been very supportive but they still dont quite get it.
@Frankincense88 I must say the hospital were very good, when they told me they moved me to a different private waiting area so I didnt have to sit with all the other women. Only complaint is when I went for my check up three weeks after D&C the lady screening people at the door of the antinatal clinic said 'oh are you here for your 12 week scan.' She got met with a very flat 'no had that didnt turn out so well'.
I have a feeling she may not have asked any other women that day!

Sorry everyones holidays have been cancelled, try and make the time at home special. Nice dinners maybe a class of wine and fingers crossed enjoy the sun we seem to be having at the moment!!

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 10:05

@Leaf87 oh that is so awful for you, I'm so sorry. Sounds like this year has indeed been rough. That's lucky (I guess!) you had the ward to yourself, it was packed all 3 times I went. The 3rd time (waiting for my MM meds) they forgot about me and left me in a waiting room full of pregnant women for almost 2 hours. It was torture but I was too upset to kick off. I just said 'why am I still waiting when my appointment was at half 1?' Then I overheard someone say 'oops forgot she was here.' 😐

@Bells993 Us too, we were meant to go to Cornwall in a couple of weeks for half term for a lovely chilled week with family in a cottage - at least they've let us rebook for next year.

Let's hope lots of positive results come out way - while tough circumstances have brought us all here it's nice we're all around the same sort of timeframe. Xx

Bells993 · 06/05/2020 09:56

@Leaf87
I’d defo get cracking! I had all my care with a private gyno and she said as long as you are healthy there’s no harm in trying straight away (just get iron tablets in me mainly but supplements also) it’s just dating reasons like MrsT said. Can’t believe you had to do that all on your own. It’s awful isn’t it!

@Frankincense88 lockdown just makes it so much worse doesn’t it. We should of been going on holiday Friday for 2 weeks so it would of been so lovely to mix it up and take the pressure of trying and have fun on holiday. 😭

Lovely we are all around the same frame, be lovely to hear some good news when it comes for you all.

@Frankincense88 yes agreed isolation has brought it's own challenges in trying to move on. Like you say good days and bad days. The only good thing about the virus and telhe hospital being so quite is that I had the ward to myself when I had to stay in for a few days (every cloud!!)

Over the last week or so I have started to feel more like myself. If I even know what that is, my Dad passed away in February so I feel like 2020 has really given me a kicking. Saying that I am very positive that the last half of the year has to be much better than than the first half!!!!

@MrsTtobe yes I feel the same about overlation sticks etc I know I will get obsessed with it! We caught first time last time.. I dont think it will be that easy this time but I will certainly give myself a few months before I decide to start doing anything else. At the moment I just track my periods they were very regular before my miscarriage so hoping they should return that way!

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 09:09

@MrsTtobe Yep mine were bang on every 28 days, I could usually time it to the hour! Xx

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 09:08

@Leaf87 Exactly the same as me - had to go for scan alone, another scan alone 2 weeks later when I was told no heartbeat which was awful. Had to WhatsApp my husband and tell him because he was at home waiting to come and get me and I couldn't actually speak the words I was too upset.

I still have sad days but I'm having more positive days than bad. Because it was such an awful experience being alone at hospital part of me thinks we might just casually try until covid is over then if it happens, it happens, then start doing OPK again after lockdown because I don't think I could go through all that again without my husband there at the hospital. It's rough going through something like this at the best of times but to be stuck in your house without anyone to come and chat to you / look after you it must be awful. Xx

MrsTtobe · 06/05/2020 09:06

@Frankincense88 fracking sounds way more interesting than tracking 😜🤣 our miscarriage at similar times. Were your cycles regular before you got pg? Mine fairly short, 26 ish days but in saying that took about 9 weeks to return after I had my daughter so im not holding much hope for the next 2 months. 😔
Good luck lovely.

@Leaf87 yes exactly that. I hate the idea of an official start date. I could never bring myself to check/ track with ovulation sticks and tempting etc as I know I would become obsessed. But I may get that way if it doesnt happen again in next few months.

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 08:56

@MrsTtobe yes you feel very helpless, I feel like if we just carry on in my mind I am not actively trying and feel more relaxed about it. If we wait for one cycle that's a very definite start date! A start date means more pressure! Very similar to what @Bells993 was saying. I would like to try and keep some romance and enjoyment.
@Frankincense88 I am very sorry to hear this, it's terrible to go through. I found isolation made the whole experience even worse. My husband was not with me at the scan, he couldn't come to the hospital etc made me feel even more alone! I feel like my attitude to try in now is similar to yours..... phew also I wasnt sure If fracking was code for some sort dtd I wasnt aware off GrinBlush

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 08:12

Tracking** I'm definitely not fracking, I promise!!

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 08:11

Hi ladies hope it's ok for me to join.

My MMC began on the 6th April (but found out on the 1st at scan). Should have been 9+6 but was measuring about 5 weeks. Bled for about 11 days (10 of which was minimal) after having 2 doses of MM, so I'm now over 4 weeks post MC and we've started casually trying (not fracking anything) until after AF arrives, whenever that will be!

Not holding out much hope I'll catch right away so trying to enjoy it until I know what's what with my cycle.

Sending lots of positivity hoping we all get a result soon xx

MrsTtobe · 05/05/2020 23:00

@Leaf87 hey welcome! Hope you're ok. I know how traumatic it is. I was told to wait for first period before ttc but pretty sure it's just for dating reasons. Its just so frustrating isn't it. Starting all over again. Feels like such a mountain. 😢
Like I say we didn't wait, trying already is the only thing that's helped. We dtd about a week after. Hope you're ok

MrsTtobe · 05/05/2020 22:57

@Avee96 I have everything crossed for you lovely. Keep us posted. 😘

MrsTtobe · 05/05/2020 22:56

@Bells993 you're so right. No romance at all. I say the most unromantic things and I hate myself as soon as I do. 🙈🤣 He isn't complaining though. Im knackered and would love to curl up with a book instead if im honest but nope im jumping on him most nights. 🙈🤣
I don't know when to test... I was just thinking I couldn't possibly be lucky enough to conceive so soon after so was just kind of waiting for AF. It's been 4 weeks tomorrow the miscarriage started and I bled for about a week all in all. If I've still had no symptoms or AF in 2 weeks then I might just let myself. 🤣

Leaf87 · 05/05/2020 21:47

Hi,
I hope you all do not mind me jumping in here to! I had a MMC 11+5 it was my first pregnancy found at the 12/13 week scan. I then went on to have a D&C on the 2nd April. I would like to start TTC again had my first negative pregnancey test today so guessing I should ovulate around 2 weeks. I was told to wait one cycle but not sure I want to, does anyone else feel the same.
Its hard you feel quite helpless.
I am sorry to hear you have all been through similar ❤❤ I am finding isolation is not helping with not becoming very focused on TTC x

Avee96 · 05/05/2020 19:58

I went for appt at 10 weeks for heartbeat and I measured at 8 weeks no heartbeat no period I'm scheduling appt today for blood work and taking another at home test on Friday 🙏🙏

Bells993 · 05/05/2020 16:30

@MrsTtobe I know me and my partner said this. We have friends that have been trying for 2 years and they are in great health and under 30 it’s soul destroying. I couldn’t Believe it when they said there was no heartbeat after having such an easy time with my first. Yeah DTD every other day is defo the way forward it’s just hard work isn’t it, no romance in trying for a baby 😫😂
when are you at a stage you can take a test?
Please keep me updated, routing for you! Xx
