Is anyone putting TTC on hold because of corona?

As @Fizzl says it's very si ilar to other viruses such as Sars and other coronavirus and also flu. I'm a scientist and have done some research into this and I'm happy to continue

I'm 40 1/2 and we've already been trying for 7 months, we aren't delaying

My worry is more around the state of the NHS and not being to access help. It’s terrifying.

My friend is being trained this week to go onto a ward environment from a community team with zero ward experience just in case it is necessary to redeploy. Just because it hasn't happened in our lifetime doesn't mean it won't now.

I think if it turns out the virus caused deficiencies or abnormalities resulting in severe damage or distress for the child the guilt would be the least of your worries.

Is this a joke ?

1. No pregnant women have died from corona virus in fact noone younger than 9 has died

2. studies have been done on pregnant women in china 3rd trimester women who catch covid -19 did not have adverse outcomes neither did their babies HOWEVER there is little data on 1st and 2nd trimester women

Currently pregnant with twins ( nearly 29 weeks) and this is stressful but at least the end is in sight I personally wouldnt start trying now until we get more idea of how things are likely to pan out

My main concerns are

• healthcare system being way to overwhelmed to offer good care

• I doubt the peak will be over by summer. wishful thinking

I am putting TTC on hold for a few months based on the facts:

1. There's not enough research into how CV can affect early pregnancy or pregnant mother's health - because the virus is too new.
2. It is known that high fever increases the risk of negative outcomes in pregnancy, particularly in the first trimester.

I am 33 so still have time, but not as much as someone in their 20s. Also had two miscarriages in the space of less than a year, so a very tough call indeed.

Me too. And usually I would have started spotting by now but nothing. :( :(

I would if I were you. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and terrified. I have high risk pregnancies. I wish we hadn't fallen pregnant when we did even though we'd been trying for a year.

Decided I'm not going to ttc this month.. too risky and see what is in store next month

Did you see the news? They said pregnant women need to shield themselves for 12 weeks as they just don't know enough about covid and it's effect on pregnancy

Someone said a woman in China who was pregnant was very unwell

And they don't know how it' affects people in early stages of pregnancy and won't do for a long time

Aah. I had a smiley face today on the ov sticks and don't have time to waste because of my age but I'm now thinking it would be irresponsible to try ... have to make a decision tonight!

I've been trying to conceive for over 3 years. We have our ivf booked for the end of April and now I'm worried how that will be affected. I'll be 38 in April and already I don't have many eggs left so I really hope I will still be able to go ahead. Have asked the doctors if we can bring it forward to the end of this month but I can't see it happening and there's pretty much no chance I will conceive naturally

I am 40, we have been trying for the best part of 2 years and are going to continue. I’m bored of trying, at the end of this year we are stopping anyway so l don’t want to miss a few months

@wodhk try not to worry too much. As lunamoon said there is more recent research to the contrary so it's not a definite issue if you have a fever in the first trimester. Regular paracetamol use will lower the risk significantly as will taking folic acid as advised (given most of the potential defects are related to neural tube). I'm in my 2ww at present so may well be pregnant. Covid-19 is likely going to be around until next year, if not longer. Given my age i don't have the luxury of time to put ttc on hold for that long.

Basically saying any evidence they have found for this there is also evidence against this so it's a very inconclusive statement to make

The most worrying thing is it being unknown, due to being a new disease.

That's such a tough one.

Mum having a high temp is rally dangerous for a foetus and can result in abnormalities- that would be my main concern

Someone on another thread just commented that they would avoid ttc now as high fever in the first trimester causes birth defects... does anyone know if that is true?

To those who are pregnant I'm fingers crossed that you escape it or only get it mildly.

fat and breathless! No you shouldn't be breathless at any point, if you are please ask to be checked.
Believing "a bit breathless" was normal almost cause me to ignore pneumonia. It was others who recognize I was ill not me. I don't mean to scare anyone but I was 36 weeks and thought I was normal.

42 and 17 weeks pregnant here. Baby due in summer and I'm hoping the peak will be done by then. Who knows. Its completely screwed the entire worlds plans for 2020..I have no choice of course , these things are happening , the labour ward will still run and I cant even let me head go to what ifs. I'd rather get it before my third trimester when I am fat and breathless !

@catclock I’m just not prepared to wait, it’s as simple as that.

Aside from supporting my family members and protecting my elderly parents from infection, I run our local community group who are supporting those affected by illness and self isolation dropping supplies and running errands and I’m more than happy to give my time. The time i have to conceive is non-negotiable.
