Short Luteal Phase Gang!

Beau20 · 27/02/2020 09:05

I started a thread a while ago asking for success stories but now I would love to get all the girls together who are struggling to conceive with their short Luteal Phase!

Here's a little bit about me -

TTC #1
Cycle 7
28 years old
Luteal phase average 9-10 days longest being 11 days.
Ovulation CD17-18 cycles 26-28 days long

I have had 2 pregnancies before (both termination please no flaming) both conceived without even trying, one with my current partner of 6 years. I also had a chemical in January. My last contraception was Nexplanon for 1 year and before that I was on the pill for 10 years or so (which was when I conceived previous). I have been taking 50mg sertraline for 6 months then 100mg sertraline for 6 months after that and have just stopped completely today. This is the only thing I have been doing differently since I conceived last time so part of me thinks this may affect fertility.

I'd love to hear about everyone else's journey! x

@Wearenotyourkind I have had a veryyyyy strange cycle!! I've not had a high peak reading yet and my OPKs have been up and down for the last 5 days. All my apps are saying ovuation was CD13 or 14 based on the low Peak OPKs which matches my ovulation pain but I only had a little EWCM. I've had no rise in temp at all! Last night an this morning I've had another low peak OPK reading (CD16/17) so now I'm thinking maybe I didn't ovulate. I'm using a different brand of OPK this month (easy@home) and did 2 Ovaview tests with the same wee Mon & Tues and they were both negative whereas the Easy@home ones where a high reading. Last few months I got my peak CD16-17 so maybe this is it?

No idea whats going on!

Thank you @Beau20 I think I'll get for next cycle. How are you getting on? I think we are at similar stages usually? I'm CD22 and have finally got peak OPK today. Was starting to think I wasn't going to ovulate. But last few months, my cycle has been 26/27 days, so really hoping it's longer than that this month otherwise my LP will be even shorter! Last time I ovulated so late, I had a 32 day cycle, so hoping it's the same length this month.

Hope everyone else is doing okay?

@Wearenotyourkind these are the ones. One app is telling me I ovulated yesterday, one today and one in 2 days time 🤨🤨 I wouldn't even say the OPK from yesterday morning was 100% peak and last night it was only 'high'. Let's see what this morning says!

Wearenotyourkind · 07/03/2020 18:04

I'm also on cycle #8, so we have a lot in common

Wearenotyourkind · 07/03/2020 18:03

Which Soy Isoflavones did you take @Beau20? Hoping it's a good sign you're on track to ovulate earlier this month. I got a nothing pissing flashing smiley this evening and IC line was barely visible 🙄🙄

Beau20 · 07/03/2020 11:49

@Wearenotyourkind I took agnus castus for 3 months no change. I've been off it for 2 months and no change again so it did nothing for me but I've heard it's working for others

OP posts:
Beau20 · 07/03/2020 11:48

@Wearenotyourkind I really don't believe in supplements at all but this is a strange coincidence 🙈🙈 my OPK was peak this morning but not peak peak if you know what I mean? I'll probably get max peak tonight/tomorrow am. It's really abnormal for me as my peak has been bang on CD16-17 every single month with ovulation day or 2 after. I'm pretty sure I always used to ovulate CD14-15 so maybe I'm FINALLY regulating. Nothing to say my LP will be 14 days though, it may just be equally as short so shorter cycle.

OP posts:
Wearenotyourkind · 07/03/2020 08:43

Ooh interesting! @Beau20 I really need to bring my ovulation earlier as it's been CD17/18/19 and today I'm CD17 and just got another flashing smiley. So with a cycle of 26/27 days, which it's what it's been for last few months, my LP is short. I'm on 3rd month of Agnus Castus too and no difference yet. Fingers crossed the Soy Isoflavones helps you!

Beau20 · 07/03/2020 08:22

@Proseccoprincess33 no I'm on my 8th cycle. It was my first 100% confirmed chemical but I'm also pretty sure I had one first month off implant but I only did one pregnancy test and the. AF came 5 days later. I'm 100% still trying. Going all out this month, will wait for bloods and see what they say. From next month onwards if bloods are all fine I'm going to drop all the OPKs and Abu additions!

@Wearenotyourkind well this cycle is interesting as I started high OPKs yesterday CD11 and usually start those CD16. Not sure if it's the isoflavones or what but things are happening much sooner this cycle which is good! I always used to have bang on CD14-15 ovulation. I also had a temp drop yesterday and I've spiked 0.76 this morning (but was drinking last night so I might discount that temp. Just waiting for this mornings OPK to develop. Will keep you posted x

Wearenotyourkind · 06/03/2020 22:18

I'm thinking if trying soy Isoflavones next cycle, so I'd be interested to hear how you get on @Beau20

Proseccoprincess33 · 06/03/2020 19:30

@Beau20 is this your first you are trying for? And if you don't mind me asking, your first cp? I was surprised at how strong my hpt line was. But I was bleeding by time I got it so I knew it wasn't good. I only checked as temp/bbt was over 37 and my base line is 36.4, so I knew something was up. Are you trying again or waiting for bloods? I'm tempted to try again this month. Hope you're doing OK. I'm having some prosecco to console myself, hence the name lol xx

Beau20 · 06/03/2020 17:49

@Proseccoprincess33 sounds just like me. I ovulated CD17, BFP 9 and 10DPO. 11DPO negative and AF CD28.

Proseccoprincess33 · 05/03/2020 22:37

Thanks @Beau20 sorry for your losses too. It's not easy. Please let us know how you get on with bloods. Maybe mine is more an fsh issue as opposed to love progesterone. My last cycle I ovulated day 19 and af/chemical started day 28. I might ask for day 7 tests also. I hope you get answers and the support you need for a sticky bean 😘

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 21:39

@Beau20 oohhhh, I'll be interested to know!

Beau20 · 05/03/2020 21:31

@Trying2019 my gp said above 30 for progesterone so 33 is good news x

@paintfairy I took soy isoflavones this cycle days 4-8 so I'll let you know how I get on

@Proseccoprincess33 oh I'm so sorry lovely, I had one last month it's awful. Part of me knew my Short LP would just kick the pregnancy out (and it did). My GP didn't seem at all interested about my 2 chemicals and only my luteal phase/late ovulation 🧐🧐

OP posts:
Proseccoprincess33 · 05/03/2020 20:52

Hello guys hope you are all well. @beau20 I have asked my gp for day 21 bloods. She didn't seem to give 2 sh1ts just agreed to the bloods. Maybe I should have requested day 7 ones too?

The plot thickens with me. Af started last weeks at 9/10dpo. 2 days into it my temps were still really high so I took a pregnancy test (digi) and it was positive. I took some frers and they got pregressively stronger until yesterday when it went faint.

So I have had a chemical pregnancy and not sure if it was short luteal phase that caused it or if it was an abnormality and luteal phase isn't actually that short. Who knows.

Hope you are all well. At least it's nearly Friday xxx

Ejb86 · 05/03/2020 18:25

@Beau20 I'm due AF on Monday Confused so I guess we will see.

paintfairy · 05/03/2020 17:40

@Wearenotyourkind I tried the raspberry leaf tea and tablets for months. Did nothing.
Yes odd cycles with LP issues won't affect TTC. But mine is every cycle.

@Beau20 I've been reading up and I think this is maybe true. The LP issue is the effect, rather than the cause? Possibly anyway. I ovulate day 11 which is too early from what I read. Because the egg isn't quite mature enough. Therefore i need to look at that stage. I'm taking vitex. I was looking at maka and ubiquinol earlier, dunno if to try those? Also soy isolates prior to ovulation is said to do the same as clomid (naturally) so that might also be worth a try.

Trying2019 · 05/03/2020 17:10

Hi @Beau20 good news on getting the ball rolling with your tests. Your gp sounds good. Nothing happening with me not due to ovulate for two weeks. Got referred to fertility clinic today. The GP wasnt as good as the last one I saw. She just said my spotting was odd. Ive asked if there are any tests i can have whist waiting and she is going to try and refer me for the tube testing one. All my other tests and husband were normal and we havent been a year trying yet so its just the spotting that concerns me. I do think its low progesterone as my level was 33 which seems quite low to me Xx

Beau20 · 05/03/2020 13:56

How's everyone getting on? Is anyone due to test soon? X

Beau20 · 03/03/2020 11:38

@Ejb86 welcome to the gang! So so sorry to hear about your loss, twins as well x

So I went to the GP today and I'm having day 21 bloods and then the 7 day bloods after that. She said if my 7 day FSH bloods come back abnormal she will refer me early to the fertility clinic we have here. I was worrying about her knowing when I had my implant out and she had no idea! I should have lied and said it was 12 months ago... never mind! I'm just so thankful I'm having any sort of test done after only 7 cycles. She said that my luteal phase was abnormal or more that I am ovulating too late in my cycle. And that she also thinks there is a slight 'concern' that my periods are a lot shorter and lighter than they used to be. I'm just glad that she acknowledged my short LP as I've read a lot on here about most GPs totally dismissing it.

Basically she said if my cycles are regular 28 days (which they are) I should be ovulating no later than CD15. However as I ovulate CD17-18 I should be having at least 31 day cycles. She also said because my cycles have always been 28 days my whole life, she seems to think it's more of an ovulation or FSH issue rather then actual progesterone or LP problem. If that makes sense?

Hi ladies.

Found this thread as my current cycles are worrying me slightly.

I'm 33, so is hubby. Ttc #4 but lost #2&3 twin girls at 16 weeks back in September. We left it until january to start trying again. My cycles pre miscarriage were 28 days regular as clockwork and ov around cd14.

Since miscarriage I have 26 day cycles and seem to ov around 18/19/20. This is our 3rd cycle of ttc #4 and got a high opk today. I'm due AF a week on Monday so that's only a 7/8 day luteal phase.

Thinking I'll see my gp sometime soon if we continue to be unsuccessful. Any advice?

Wearenotyourkind · 29/02/2020 14:56

Also! I've just been reading this - very interesting study. Particularly this bit in the conclusion:

Women with a short luteal length in the first observed cycle had significantly lower fertility after the first 6 months of pregnancy attempt, but at 12 months, there was no significant difference in cumulative probability of pregnancy.
Conclusion(s)
Although an isolated cycle with a short luteal phase may negatively impact short-term fertility, incidence of infertility at 12 months was not significantly higher among these women.

Has anyone else been drinking raspberry leaf tea up until ovulation?
