Probably the only place I feel comfortable enough to share details of when I had sex and what is going on with my vagina 😳
So as the title says I'm 40 and some extra and desperately ttc since 2017, I've had 2 miscarriages in this time 1 being a Mmc and the other at week 12 which was horrendous. If you want to join for some love, support and a chat please do!
Don't let me be Billy no mates 😢

And welcome @Chickoletta! I'm a little older than you, and my kids are a little older at DS11 and DD9...I wish we hadn't waited this long, but so it is...we finally feel ready financially, etc...so figured we had better get at it. But I always really wanted 3, so fingers crossed. Figure we'll give it a few months and see how it goes. Good luck to you!!!

PMB123 · 14/02/2020 21:17

Thanks @Mumof4andahalf. Honestly, we only half-seriously decided to try last month after a few years of not thinking about it...so that I got that faint positive was in itself good news...but the emotional rollercoaster sucked. Hoping for a good egg next month! Tonight though: Wine

Hi everyone. So pleased to have found this thread. I'm 40 and DH is about to turn 40 next week. We have 2 amazing children, DS9 and DD6 - we really thought we were done but recently decided that we'd both love another. This is our 4th cycle of TTC and I'm trying hard not to obsess! Both of my previous babies were conceived on our second cycle of trying, so already taking longer, but I know we've been really lucky.

I know that the chances of conceiving are lower and I know that the risks are higher but I also know of lots of friends and acquaintances who've had their perfect babies in their forties so I'm going for it.

Good luck everyone - look forward to seeing good news soon.

Hi again everyone- My late AF/early miscarriage arrived today- so I can stop the "am I? aren't I?" thoughts and get on with it. Just came across an old classmate on facebook today- she's preg at 44 and will give birth at 45! Just what I needed to see, truly- it gives me hope. I've decided to give it another try! Starting my 4WW today ;)

BooseysMom · 13/02/2020 20:59

@Ameliel ..i remember you from the 40+ ttc thread! Your story is very similar to mine. I had DS at 41. I had given up hope and then out of the blue there was DS! Didn't even realise until 3 months into the pregnancy!
Lovely to hear all going well x

Ameliel · 13/02/2020 18:47

Hi all, just wanted to tell you my story to give you some hope! I had my precious LO last November, at 43! We Ttc'd for about a year when I was 41 but it didn't happen, so I gave up and just decided to get on with my life...and then this little miracle happened, total surprise! So yes it can happen past 40 - perhaps my relaxed attitude / not trying helped, I wasn't following any special diets or anything else..sorry for all your losses and Good Luck, don't lose hope but try not to get too obsessed! X

Mumof4andahalf · 13/02/2020 17:26

Lovely to hear some positive stories 💕 sorry for everyone's losses though, as much as it's heartbreaking I keep thinking at least I can still get pregnant

Ps am also fed up of being told I am too old! Took two years to conceive DD and it turned out later I hadn't known I had endometriosis. I couldn't get pregnant at all when I was younger so I'm doing the best I can now

Timeforanamechangeagain1 · 13/02/2020 16:39

Hello everyone, throwing my hat into the ring. I turned 40 a few weeks ago, unfortunately I had an early MC/ chemical at 5.5 weeks in November and 8 weeks in early Jan. I had fallen immediately pregnant after the first miscarriage, but obviously it wasn't meant to be. Had to have a d&c the second time and still recovering so not sure when we'll be able to try again but hopefully next month. My grandma had my mum when she was 42 so am trying to stay optimistic! I have a two year old and would love another

PMB123 · 13/02/2020 16:25

Hello Everyone! 44 here and just tried again...we have 2 kids at home, 9 and 11. We put off another one for so long due to things just getting in the way, money, etc. Finally decided to give it a go again 2 years ago and sadly miscarried around 10 weeks or so. No one really talks about the physical pain and grief you go through (even at that early stage). Anyway, I didn't want to go through that again, so stopped trying...until last month when I was feeling exceptionally broody...Husband is all in, and would love another. Anyway, AF is late, and had loads of symptoms and one faint positive...however, negative bloods on Monday, and symptoms are seeming to taper off. Very light spotting and mild cramping yesterday so am expecting AF/miscarriage any day...of course, until it shows, I can't help thinking of the 1% chance I still might be preg, but I refuse to take another test at this point....not sure if we'll try again next month- it takes such an emotional toll! (sorry this was long!)- I just can't really talk about it with anyone except my husband right now, and he doesn't fully get what I'm going through.

LimpLettice · 13/02/2020 15:45

I understand @bitheby. I felt like all I ever heard was stories about fertility dropping off a cliff at 35/38/40, eggs and linings being rubbish, doom and endless gloom. Actually it was my dear old dad who reminded me that his mums generation routinely had surprise babies in their 40's. Anyway it is undeniably harder, but it's far from rare. And positive thought is good for the soul if not for the ovaries Smile

bitheby · 13/02/2020 15:14

Thank you @LimpLettice and congratulations!

I really needed to read a good news story.

LimpLettice · 13/02/2020 13:57

I can offer some positivity if you like, ladies?

I have a ten year old from a previous relationship but started trying at 39 with my DH. We unfortunately suffered 3 losses (early ones) over a year, and as I went into my 40's just thought maybe it was never going to be.

Fell pregnant in Vegas at 41, but sadly m/c at 7 weeks. 3 weeks later got exceedingly drunk on one glass of wine and thought wtf, I'll test. Bfp - who is now 16 months old and perfect.

Early December, I woke up 2 mornings in a row with a bit of nausea and took and old test that was hanging around. Now I'm 14 weeks, with this one arriving a month before I turn 43 if all goes well. Not trying either.

Fingers crossed for you all. It can and does happen!

BooseysMom · 12/02/2020 09:14

@Mumof4andahalf.. Thank you Smile. It sounds like you've got a lovely partner who cares about you alot. DH is the same. I know he wanted another badly but knew the risks as you get older. I blamed myself for ages and still do in a way as i was always too scared to try too much! Saying that we do still dtd and i'm not on anything but at my age the risks are huge Sad
I wish you all the very best xx

Hi ladies, same here and dont want to hear negativity either. We have had 3 IVFs so far. Not giving up yet but it is not easy.

sabtom · 11/02/2020 23:21

Can I join?

TTC #1 for a year, just turned 40. All tests came back normal for both of us. Regular cycles and ok'ish AMH level. Not even a hint of a second line at any time despite dtd at all the right times, taking my vitamins, healthy lifestyle etc.

Really thought this was my month then, BAM! AF shows up this morning Sad

Told by the dr to look into IVF as soon possible but unfortunately we'll have to self fund due to my age and partner's smoking habit Angry

Mumof4andahalf · 11/02/2020 22:50

@CamdenTownie welcome to the thread! Xx

CamdenTownie · 11/02/2020 22:34

Hi, I'm 40 and have been ttc for over 18 months, no pregnancy at all so far.

I've had months where I'm almost certain that we've conceived, I know when I ovulated and we made sure to dtd at the right times etc, then af arrives and we start all over again. I said we would give up if I got to 40 without success but I just don't feel ready to stop trying just yet.

Mumof4andahalf · 11/02/2020 22:00

@BooseysMom I'm really sorry it didn't work out for you 😢 my partner was the 1 that wanted to ttc but he's not so onboard now as physically it's me that suffers

OP posts:
BooseysMom · 11/02/2020 21:57

Good for you @Mumof4andahalf Smile
I would have tried alot harder but we had many things go wrong and now i feel too old and knackered! I still feel really broody when i see babies tho. It's like constant torture

Mumof4andahalf · 11/02/2020 21:47

@BooseysMom I don't think it's too late until the menopause, I've been reading so much on how the average age is rising. I'm not giving up until I take HRT lol

Mumof4andahalf · 11/02/2020 21:44

@VenusTiger welcome to the thread. It is an absolute rollercoaster....I tell myself I'm content with what I have and try to pretend I love lay ins and lazy days but I'm not I want that newborn rush of love again, don't we all?! My daughters friends are having babies and I'm so jealous then I hate feeling like that

OP posts:
BooseysMom · 11/02/2020 21:41

Yes it's the toughest thing. The mcs were both early ones and we gave up after that then we found out about DS when i was 12 weeks gone as i was bleeding but only a bit and i put it down to peri menopause coming..all along it was DS!
The hardest part for me now is the acceptance it won't happen again. Like you say the longing for another is unbelievably strong. It must be nature's way of having one last push before it really is too late.
I hope you are successful
