ttc after mc July/August 2007 - shiny new thread as the other was full

winemakesmummyclever · 30/08/2007 11:29

Hi,

I hope nobody minds me adding a new thread, but the other wouldn't let me reply.

LadyLush - Sorry to hear about your loss . In answer to your question, I thought I was around 11-12 weeks pg, but the scan said the baby was around 8-9 weeks. When I'd had the ERPC, the gynae reg said the uterus was around 14weeks and the baby was still 8-9 weeks.
I'm sure things do get better with time, but things are still pretty raw and new for me. I'm glad things are getting back to normal for you (and hopefully for others too).

Am 9+1, which is further than I thought I was. So still could go, but I am trying to stay positive.

katendsmom - go and have some wine and/or chocolate. You've been through the mill lady, try to relax x

katendmom · 13/09/2007 19:20

Thank you girls Feeling more relaxed now... But you know how we say worrying never stops?

Well it only took about 2 hours for me... and now I am back in a "worry world" ~ what will blood/ gene test results bring back? Did this baby have DS too? If so, what to do next? The worst part is that it will take 4 weeks to get these results back.

I better take a chill pill now or I will be a mad woman by the time results come in

wheelybug · 13/09/2007 19:13

oh blimey - so many posts to catch up on.... Apologies for anything i miss.

Kateandmom - glad all went as well as possible in the circumstances. Take care of yourself.

ILTS - sounds like you've had a horrid time. Am pleased to hear the worst is over.

Thoughts too, to everyone else going through it all at the moment.

Gilly - sorry to hear its CD1. I too go through all those thoughts of dates and thinking it will happen because similar things happen to when I conceived before. Perhaps we're all going slowly mad. Hugs winging their way to the BM (How's the new job going btw ?).

Hi Torres - nice to hear from you, take care - will keep my fingers crossed for you that everythign turns out fine. I haven't started acupuncture yet - DD doesn't start nursery until Monday and my head is taken up with that and the fact we are having fairly major work done on our house and I don't think I want to start stuff like that whilst my house is full of builders and mess (I know that probably doesn't make much sense, as it won't occur in my house but I guess I need to get through the work before I can concentrate on this). But, I have stopped drinking since coming back from hols (only 3 days but feeling proud of myself), DH has cut right down too. Need to read a bit more of Zita West to get to grips with what we need to do though. I desperately need to start exerciaing too.

Ladylush - glad the appointment went ok and that there don't seem to be any major problems. Are you feeling positive ?

Sorry to hear about the pox Littlebitshy - dd had them in June and she was basically fine too but I went slowly insane stuck in the house for so long... but am pleased its now over and she won't get it again.

Hello Kensgirl !

Ellie - glad to hear the good news, keep us posted and try and relax.....

Try and have a relaxing evening everyone.

iliketosleep · 13/09/2007 18:30

oh katendmom im so pleased your back and everything went ok for you, im so very happy you didnt have to go through what i did the other night, honestly LISTEN to what she says everyone lol

kensgirl · 13/09/2007 18:22

Make mine a double! Will email you tommorrow, if thats Ok.
I'm happy to eat cake at any time, can we all come to Italy with you, and eat Tiramisu there..?

Great news Ellie!! How many weeks are you now?

katendmom · 13/09/2007 18:21

Oh and ILTS - let's totally start a new thread that we can all stay on - whether we're TTC, got BFP, or whatever

katendmom · 13/09/2007 18:19

I'm back~ First of all, EllieG - congratulations!!! So-so happy for you! Now just relax and enjoy the time. Are you going to frame the picture of your little Munchkin?

ILTS, how are you girl? Feeling better?

Cricri, you made the right decision. Yeah, I know we need to be neutral and let each other make up their own mind. I am not that politically correct, alright? So I have warned Do NOT do it naturally~

Here is my update: cramps had gotten pretty bad last night, had to start taking pain meds. Managed to get through the night, got ready and on the way DS to daycare and DH to work. Yep, didn't let DH to take time off today. Send him to work

Got to the hospital at 7:40, filled out paper work, they put an IV in with fluids, introduced me to my surgeon, my anesthesiologist, the whole crew. At about 8:30 they walked me into the operation room. I got on the table, laid back, they put an oxygen mask on, started an IV drip... and then I woke up in the recovery room under warm blankets with a cup of hot coffee waiting for me. In about 2 hours I was released to go home. I could have TOTALLY driven myself back home but they made me get a taxi.

Now I am at home, pain and cramp free, with minimal bleeding, typing away. Now, tell me - is this not the way to go?

I don't know if ERPC is the same as D&C (I had D&C) but if it is - GO FOR IT. You take a small nap, wake up and it's over. Also, given that I have a little one - I am SO relieved now knowing that I won't have to rush into a hospital on a minute notice! Phew, thank God it's over.

Now, here is another interesting fact (which I think is a huge credit to my doctor). He actually read my history and said that since we lost our DD at 35 wks pg and then learned that she had Down (and I was only 27 back then), and now I had this MC - he was actually sending this baby's tissue/ blood for tests/ gene/ chromosome for analysis. He wants to know if there was anything wrong with the baby... in particular if this baby had Down. If this baby did too (that would then be 2 for us) - then he wants my DH and me to get tested to see if we have a chromosome that predisposes us to have DC with Down...

I hope that this baby didn't have Down... and I hope that neither my DH nor I have anything like that... because I really really want to TTC again... So there will be more to this story later but for now - I'm home, recovering.

winemakesmummyclever · 13/09/2007 17:35

Kensgirl - dh is here on a conference. I am trying to behave myself (ahem - curently sat in bar with pint) whilst he is being bored to death in lectures. I did the 2nd year of my degree in Cork. Believe me, if we were down there now, I wouldn't be this coherent!

As for cakes, Jules suggested a northern cakefest. Will have to be in a few weeks as I have v busy week when get back, then we're all off to Italy for family jollies .

It's beer o'clock - anyone want one while I'm here?

OP posts:
EllieG · 13/09/2007 17:32

Hey all - just popping in to let you know that went for scan today and baby was OK! I could see him wiggling his little arms and legs and everything! Cried ALL the way through (poor doc don't think he knew what had hit him) especially as was scanned in the same room as went to before D&C, but it was fine! I have a lovely picture of the bean and so far, so good. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it continues x

winemakesmummyclever · 13/09/2007 17:27

Torres - glad to hear that your gp was sympathetic. You put your feet up and try not to worry (yeah, I know it's difficult, but try).

Cricri - FWIW I think you've made the right choice. Like everyone has said, we put forward our views/experiences on here in order to help each other. Hope that you have a good, relaxing weekend.

NH & Duvet - wow, those are long cycles. I would have been peeing on a stick every day if that was me .

Ladylush - Avoca was very nice but couldn't bring myself to part with 80 Euros for a jersey cami-top . have to watch the pennies now that I'm (hopefully) going to be a student again .

OP posts:
kensgirl · 13/09/2007 17:22

Hi All!

Torres! It's lovely to see you, I've missed you . Although, I only want to see you back here visiting, NOT moving back in. I really hope everything will work out this time, try and keep the faith if you can, you deserve for this to be your time. I hope you manage to enjoy the Lakes this weekend, and I will be thinking of you both xx

Gilly, I'm sorry to see that af has arrived. Its just so horrible, isn't it? I feel just the way you described, I can't tell dh as I know he would worry, and think I wasn't coping. Hugs to you x

Ladylush, I'm glad your tests are underway,I was thinking of you yesterday, but didn't get near the pc. I hope they are at least able to offer you some hope for the next time you are pg. I didn't know the uterus was flat, I wish I knew just what my uterus is thinking at the mo, its surely got mind of its own.

WWMMC - cakes? cakes? where? What are you doing, posting from Dublin? You should be talking broken biscuits, having consumed your body weight in Guinness and Irish whiskey... I did the 3rd year of my degree in Dublin,we had a fab time.

Jules, thats an amazing thing to do, I don't think I would hav the strenghth or the energy to actually set something up. I hope it helps you feel as though you are actively doing something to help you move on.

TJuice, it is the little things that are the hardest, isn't it? Every time I go out I am surrounded with bumps, and I end up wanting to run away. I do still have about 2 or 3 cup of coffee a day, and some vino every week, as I think I need to carry my life on normaly. I do take he folic acid though, and make sure I try to eat healthily and get enough rest. Not really sure, if anything makes a huge difference though, I think it will happen when my body is ready again.

Hi Ronshar! i agree with you, that I would recommend the erpc option, I think. Hope you are OK. I know you had a molar scare too, and if that is the case for anyone else, then an ERPC is always done.

Everyone else, my fingers are ching now after the huuuge posts you have all put on, catch up again in a bit!!

sweetkitty · 13/09/2007 17:18

cricri - best of luck I also think you are doing the right thing

ALBS - I've just got a new pc too with Vista can't really see the difference and it's been a pain as some of the peripherals won't recognise Vista and vice versa but all in all it's great ot be connected again. So sorry to hear about your DD hope she is feeling better soon.

nh/duvetwoman - sorry to hear about your cycles I have no advice as my AF came back really quickly but I wanted to say something to you both all the same, must be difficult waiting for AF to arrive hope she hurries up soon, if not bang down the doors of your GP/hospital I think it's what you have to do to get anything done.

goingfor3 · 13/09/2007 17:14

alittlebitshy - I tired to clean my oven the other day after everything I cooked tatsted bbq'd, but failed miserably. How much is it to get someone round to clean it?

alittlebitshy · 13/09/2007 17:06

Torres - glad the gp's being nice and symptahetic! fingers crossed, and lots of thoughts and prayers winging their way to you!
Have a good time at the lakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're back online after a few days between computers. loving the new one, and we've got vista so everything looks all different, but nice different!!!!!!

dd is off school with chicken pox now. a week into term and a week off. she's not too poorly, but is being quite fragile on and off which is not helped by my cabin fever making me all stroppy . think she's had a nice day doing painting, games, having stories read, and i haven't been on at her to read her new words so that's good......

oh and i had the ovenu man come and visit today. my oven looks all clean, and new. I WILL keep it clean this time

nh101 · 13/09/2007 17:02

That's OK, duvetwoman - I haven't really had that many "natural" cycles cos I was on the pill from age 17-29 without having more than about six months off it. And I got PG first cycle after coming off it at the end of last year.

But before I went on the pill at 17 my cycles were long (I started my periods quite late - at 14) and I just thought it was my body getting into a cycle. Then during breaks from the pill they were often three months long. Again, I thought it was just the pill.

After my MC in March I had a light bleed five weeks after D&C, a period six weeks after that and then the epic 12-week cycle.

I was referred to a gynae (although I had to go private) and he said long cycles often don't produce a viable egg cos it takes too long for the ovaries to release it.

If your cycles were regular before MC they are likely to go back to normal in time - it is a waiting game and I feel for you. I got really down about it thinking "If I don't have periods how am I going to get PG again???"

Hope this helps

duvetwoman · 13/09/2007 16:48

NH101- Can i just ask, are your cycles usually long or just since the m/c? Was that long cycle just a one off, are they back to normal now? Sorry about all the questions!

Yes, good luck cricri - I think you are making the right choice.

goingfor3 · 13/09/2007 15:37

cricri - good luck, I would make the same decision in your position.

cricri · 13/09/2007 15:21

Just to let you know that I've decided to go for the ERPC after much googling and agonising this afternoon when I should have been getting on with my work... Good job I work from home and I've got nobody looking over my shoulder at my screen!
I'm just off to the hospital to have my bloods done and the procedure itself is on Tuesday. Perhaps the weekend in Holland will take my mind off things in the meantime.
Sweetkitty - thanks for your advice, it helped me come to a decision rather than dither any longer. The sooner it's over, the sooner we can get on with ttc!

nh101 · 13/09/2007 14:46

Hi duvetwoman - it is annoying isn't it? My last cycle was 12 weeks long! (And that only ended cos I took progesterone to make AF come!). All I can say is hang in there, it will come, but if your periods are not back to normal within four or five months then see your GP. Or if this one is more than 8 weeks long, go to your GP). He/she probably won't do anything (mine didn't want to cos he just said it was stress from the mc) but if you make enough noise and demand to be reffered to a gynacologist for amenorrhea you should get seen.

Don't let them fob you off! (But for now my advice is to wait - if it still hasn't come after eight weeks then go to the doc)

duvetwoman · 13/09/2007 14:03

Hi girls, thanks to all those who replied, hope every one is doing as well as they can.

Well its now day 45 of my cycle after having m/c in June, am at my wits end and need some advice. Have never had a cycle this long before not even straight after the m/c

torres · 13/09/2007 13:32

ahem- not sure what happenned there!

torres · 13/09/2007 13:31

Hi all, I didn't want you all to think I'd got my BFP and swanned off ignoring you- especially those I've known for a long time. I've had a real emotional rollercoaster of a week. I've been spotting quite a bit and had built myself into a real state that I'm going to lose another baby and convinced it would be on the due date of my 1st baby this weekend. I've been inconsolable but the GP has been very kind and I'm less hysterical though still wobbly. I went for a scan yesterday and everything seemed ok but its only 5 weeks so not really much to see and everything seems so precarious. I'm still having those jealous feelings over heavily pg friends whom i consider to be 'safe'. I'm going to the Lakes tomorrow so hopefully spending time with DH will keep me sane if not calm.

I wanted to send a big hug to all those with due dates around this time (lissie, ronshar, sybil, jess) - hope i haven't missed anyone, and to those just coming to terms with a recent mc.

Kensgirl- hello hon! I am so so pleased to hear you have had the all clear that really is great news. I hope now your head knows you can officially conceive, your body will obey sharpish!

Gilly- really sorry AF has arrived, hope you're coping ok. I'm not sure if anyone answered your questions about acupuncture. I was told any time in the cycle is fine, though no point during AF as this is a time for your body to be quiet and rest. I went weekly for the first month to 'build myself up', then once before ovulation and once after, to help implantation. It was getting a bit costly so I had asked if I only came once a month when would be best and was told just before ovulation.

lissie- really pleased and impressed to hear about your reflexology/acupuncture course. You'll be fab- you have such strength and energy, you're bound to pass this on to your clients.

jules- you are amazing and a real inspiration. Offering support to others suffering a mc is such a positive and generous thing to do.

wheely- sorry AF arrived. I remember you saying once DD was at pre-school you were going to try complementary therapies/ lifestyle changes. How's it going? hope DH is being co-operative. I never really managed to get DH to cut down on the booze.

alittlebit- good to hear from you! it must be so hard seeing DD off to reception. My nephew started in reception last year and my sister was a wreck for at least the first week. My nephew of course was in his element and had great fun. I think it's natural to be apprehensive about going back to work- I even feel like that after a long holiday. Can you build your hours up gradually at the place you are now?

flosspot- well done girl for surviving an unfeasible amount of pg ladies at the wedding. So glad DH was perceptive and looking out for you and took you home.

ronshar-I'd love to come to an OCT cakefest if still welcome, I have no plans at all for October so any day is fine by me.

nh- so sorry to hear about your friend and so angry at how she was treated. She is lucky to have you to turn to.

ladylush-glad to hear the tests are underway- great news that there doesnt seem to be any structural problems. Fingers crossed for the clotting and chromosome tests. From what I've read, clotting problems can be treated quite successfully and chromosome problems in parents are very rare, so am hoping everything will be fine for you in the future.

hello to anyone I have missed xx

torres · 13/09/2007 13:29
