TTC after miscarriage - February 2020

Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

@Leok83 See all that peeing on sticks just sounds so stressful to me! Do you find it stressful or does it make you feel more in control? Also do you need to hold your wee for a while before doing them? When I tried some Tesco ones before DC1 it said don’t use first morning wee but also hold your wee for 4 hours before testing which I found quite hard to do! And if you don’t mind me asking, why do you use them? Do you have irregular cycles/ ovulation dates or is it useful even if your cycles are quite regular? Sorry for all the questions!

@Ejb86 Flowers we are cycle buddies as I came on yesterday. Gutting isn’t it Sad

TerribleImagination · 12/02/2020 07:11

@Ejb86 It’s going haha! I started taking B6 again about a week ago, I used to take it for bloating and PMS symptoms and for some reason stopped 🤷🏻‍♀️ But the bloating etc was so bad I started again and it’s taken so many normal PMS symptoms away / reduced them that I don’t really feel like I’m about to get a period, or that I’m pregnant! 😆 Which is kind of helping this month to be honest!

I have had some mild cramping, starting around a week after ovulation, but I also had that last month and I wasn’t pregnant so I have no idea!

How are you getting on?

AF just arrived and I'm gutted Sad

So I am definitely out for February. I went to see my consultant last night as I was worried about the bleeding. The bad news was I'd developed a blood clot in my womb, the good news is it was resolving itself and that was causing the bleeding. The good news is he could see that my cycle was resuming and my left ovary was gearing up to ovulate, but the bad news is there is probably nothing doing this month while the blood clot resolves itself. But maybe that is no bad thing as it forces me to have a bit more time to recover.

Congratulations on the bfps and good luck to everyone in the two week wait!

Ejb86 · 12/02/2020 06:35

@TerribleImagination hows the tww going for you? I've had a couple of days of feeling queasy, but now my little boy has a stomach bug and I just wonder if I've been carrying that around.

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 18:49

Thanks @Leok83 ! I'm 34 so feel similar about time now as well - if you had told me I would feel like this a year ago, I never would have believed you!! Sorry you are here too, but it sounds like you are getting some good medical care. I've not had any scans or checks since it happened so just trying to work my way through this on my own! Google and mumsnet has been great (but also terrifying...). Good luck ttc!

Leok83 · 11/02/2020 17:38

@seaduck & @kkr168 thanks guys..we decided to go for it so will see what comes of it now! Guessing I def ovulated as seemed to have some side cramps middle of the night but will need to wait for bbt to confirm being the total control freak I am😄

Had my ultrasound today and no fibroid seen and thankfully everything looks normal..wasnt internal and was told MRI would be needed to tell for def but that it’s unlikely very big if regular ultrasound not picking it up and so shouldn’t cause any issues.

@LITTLEPICKLES88 congratulations! It’s all looking good..hopefully you can relax into it soon although I know I’d be the same if I get a BFP again!

@whiffle77 so sorry you are here too. In my case I still had a hcg of 37 last Wednesday which was 4 weeks post ERPC and pretty sure I ovulated yesterday/today based on opk. Decided to try before af as too impatient and also 36 so worried about time ticking away. But I’d def recommend you do try for negative preg test or get levels checked to make sure gone down so you don’t confuse a BFP with leftover hcg. I’ve next hcg level check tomorrow but decided to try before got to 0 as got bfn at home and levels had def dropped so if I get a new preg over 37 then I know it’s not leftover hcg..that’s my take on it anyways!

@Happythecrocodile sorry af arrived😢 I use clear blue opk which also measures oestrogen as well as LH.theyre pricey (bout €58 in Ireland in boots full price for 20 but try find a deal on them)when I get smileys I start doing cheap opks and when solid smiley I do the cheap opks 2-3 times a day to find out when the peak is..I use the femometer ones from amazon (less than £10 I think for 20) but I’ve never actually reached peak on the app that reads the cheap ones..only high but I still ovulate at high so don’t worry too much about it. Lots of peeing on sticks 😄

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 16:17

@Moominmiss luckily my husband is feeling the same, we both want to try again as soon as possible! Going to be weird getting our heads back into ttc mode again though. Oh well, I'm pleased at least that I can get pregnant as I was starting to doubt it.
That's good advice, thank you - just hope I can follow it ha!! Sorry to hear you had such a tough time of it afterwards, it must have been really hard not to start getting your hopes up for a new pregnancy when you were getting positives!
Time is passing by so fast at the minute so I guess that is a positive too...
Wishing you lots of luck!

Michette · 11/02/2020 15:39

@LITTLEPICKLES88 ah that’s a good thing. You should definitely let her know about your worries after the loss. She might be able to help. Hope everything goes well x

Anyone had colposcopy done with biopsy?
When did you have sex again after?

Had mine today...

LITTLEPICKLES88 · 11/02/2020 14:52

@michette thanks for your reply :) I have not booked in for an early scan, I have my first midwife appointment in 2 weeks they will then arrange a scan, I could be a week or so more than I think due to irregular periods but won't know for sure until scan xx

Moominmiss · 11/02/2020 14:18

@Whiffle77 I feel your pain! I never realised how impatient I was until now.

For some women they like to give themselves time before ttc again but for me all I want is to be pregnant again. Time isn’t on my side either with my age, so to have miscarried back on January 1st and only just had my levels drop back to zero has felt like a lifetime!

Just give it a week and test again and hopefully you’ll get a bfn. Make sure it’s definitely 100% a true bfn though. I had what appeared to be several bfn’s even when scrutinised under different lightning. So started ttc again, only to then get bfp’s even a 1-2 on a digital. I then had my blood tests which confirmed hcg of 22. So it was either still dropping from the mc or it had been a new pregnancy that turned into a chemical. I then had a second blood test 72 hours later which confirmed things were normal again, and that very same day I got af.

I’m sure things will be easier for you!

Fingers crossed for us and all the other lovely ladies here x

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 13:46

Thanks @moominmiss appreciate the response! I know it will take awhile for my body to settle down, I'm just so impatient now. I'll see how things go this week

Moominmiss · 11/02/2020 12:35

@Whiffle77 I’m so sorry you’ve had to join us here. Hopefully your stay on this thread will be a short one and you’ll soon get your happy ending.

As far as I’m aware, from what I was told, your body won’t ovulate until your hcg levels have returned to non pregnant levels (under 5).

So if you’re still getting positive pregnancy tests it means you still have pregnant levels of hcg in order for the test to pick it up. That’s why it’s best to wait until you get a clear bfn, as that usually indicates normal levels. You can then start ttc again, no need to wait for af to arrive. You ‘should’ ovulate within 2 weeks of the levels returning to normal, and then af will arrive after unless you’ve managed to fall pregnant. But don’t be worried if your cycles are a little out of whack initially. I think it can be fairly normal to ovulate at a totally different time to you usually would.
Good luck x

Happythecrocodile · 11/02/2020 10:45

I think I’m out for this month as looks like AF is turning up today Sad A couple of days earlier than expected so must’ve had a shorter cycle following mc.

Ladies who use OPKs - which are the best kind and how expensive are they, and do they make you feel more or less stressed? I used some supermarket cheap ones for a couple of months when ttc my first as cycle was all over the place but I found it quite stressful and it didn’t work (we actually conceived on a month when I wasn’t using them). Before mc my cycle was quite regular so didn’t use them but now thinking about it...

Whiffle77 · 11/02/2020 10:16

Hi everyone,
Had a miscarriage at 8 weeks pregnant just over a week ago, not long after a scan showing all fine and with heartbeat.
I have finished bleeding but still have a faint positive on pregnancy test which I expected. In theory I will be ovulating around this weekend I think, can I still start ttc again even without the negative pregnancy test? Dr said I dont need to wait for a period. I would assume (if everything has passed, which I'm sure it has) the test would still go negative even if we conceived given you dont get a positive until AF time?
This was my first pregnancy and it took a really long time to get here, so I'm keen to get started again asap.
Sorry for everyone elses losses, but I found reading mumsnet a great comfort over the past week or so as I had no idea what to expect

Michette · 11/02/2020 10:08

@LITTLEPICKLES88 i hope things settle a bit after you get a scan. Have you booked a private one for 8 weeks?

Full blown cold for me... been feeling weak since Friday and now really ill.
4dpo.... awesome.

LITTLEPICKLES88 · 11/02/2020 08:51

2 weeks until my midwife appointment, still don't feel pregnant, this time round after having a miscarriage is the scariest pregnancy ever, I just don't believe it, I'm even more obsessed with symptoms , testing my boobs every day ! I thought of and when I got a bfp I'd be so excited all my fears would disappear but I'm just as crazy as I was testing everyday and symptom spotting every day. I keep dreaming bad things happen, I have to then test again lines strong now and each week since I have find out I've done a digital this morning I was convinced I wasn't pregnant anymore - no bleeding - just lack of symptoms maybe due to extreme worrying! I'm trying not to honestly! Anyway I was very happy to see the 3plus! Hope you are all doing well xx

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 10/02/2020 20:13

I'm confused by this opk stuff as the app says 10, 5, 0 since my period but I presume its just different urine concentrations? I know its too early for ov yet and they are all just different versions of faint.
My GP phoned today to tell me to come and get a thyroxine prescription, so maybe thats why we have struggled. OH is now questioning whether we should wait a month to get in into my system, but I just want to get pregnant asap x

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 10/02/2020 20:11

Congratulations @seaduck if you had a negative 2 weeks ago then you are pregnant! Flowers

Sully84 · 10/02/2020 18:47

Thank you @TerribleImagination

TerribleImagination · 10/02/2020 18:30

@Sully84 The 2WW after a miscarriage is so much worse isn’t it? I’ve found that yoga helps when I’m feeling stressy. You can even do two week wait yoga, just do a YouTube search. Also last week when I was feeling particularly tense, I went for an Indian head massage and that also helped! Another thing I do from time to time, when I find my mind obsessing over symptoms / feeling anxious, is to take a deep breath in and exhale sharply and quickly. It’s like letting all the negative and worrying thoughts out. It’s a big airy fairy I know, but it works for me so could be worth a try! ❤️

Hi ladies, first time on here and like others can't believe how many of us experienced this in January.

I miscarried at 11 weeks back in mid-January and was heartbroken as it seemed to be twins. I'm 43 so time not on my side but OH and I have unofficially started trying again so let's see what happens. I had a scan at EPU ten days after miscarrying which showed all was well. I wasn't advised to take a pregnancy test to check HCG levels. Strange that we all received different information. Good luck. X

Ejb86 · 10/02/2020 17:20

@seaduck Congratulations lovely!

Sully84 · 10/02/2020 14:56

Congrats @seaduck , great news.

My period is due Wednesday/Thursday. Having full blown period pains today which has left me in tears and feeling very emotional.
Going forward I really need to work out how to switch off the obsessive symptom spotting/thinking and everything. I have two kids and never felt this affected by trying as I have since miscarrying.

seaduck · 10/02/2020 13:10

@Annie0425 yes, I got a negative test two weeks ago. I just took a first response and that was a faint positive too so starting to believe it now. Thanks for support everyone, hope you all don't have too much longer to wait Flowers
