TTC after miscarriage - February 2020

Hi to anyone reading 👋🏻

This is a thread for anyone TTC / testing in February, after a miscarriage.

I’ll start off with intros! I’m 37 and my first pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks in December. I TTC straight afterwards, but AF found me, so here I still am on this crazy, frustrating, rollercoaster of a journey!

I joined the January thread after my miscarriage and it’s been amazing to go there and chat to other women who know how you feel.

So for anyone joining this, I’m so so sorry you find yourself here, but you’re in good company ❤️

@VeeJayBee My cycle after the miscarriage was 35 days long (it is normally 25 days) and I believe I ovulated the 24th day (it is normally the 13th). Before the new cycle can start again the prognancy hormone must go back to zero; a more advanced pregnancy results in a higher lever of pregnancy hormone in the body that is going to need more time to get back to zero hence an even later ovulation than normal.

I understand how you feel. I can't forget that I was supposed to be still pregnant now and my baby would have been with me in July Sad

Michette · 15/02/2020 08:12

@Cometa08 thanks for that!
I had also heard it but what a pain! How are we supposed to conceive in these conditions? 😄
Doesn’t make sense. I mean sperm literally causes harm !!

VeeJayBee · 15/02/2020 08:06

I’m sure I posted on here a few weeks ago but I can’t find it now. my mc started on 19th December and lasted about 9 days. Words can’t describe how i felt and have been through a range of emotions since then. I’ve been on painful waiting game for my period to come back so we can start trying again (I’ll be 40 this year and want to get on with it.) It’s been nine weeks since my miscarriage and no period, was getting worried and frustrated. But it finally came last night. I’m really pleased it’s back as feel we can move forward now. It’s painful but only the same as normal I think, maybe a bit worse. Just wanted to offer a bit of encouragement to those in a similar position that my period’s back and it’s not as horrendous as I was preparing for. Much love to all of you who have miscarried. Death is sad and no matter what anyone says to you - you have every right to be sad and upset as it is a loss and that’s sad. I had someone say that it wasn’t really a “baby” that I lost. Well it was. Life is from conception and my baby was 8 weeks. I’ll forever love my little baby and will never forget him or her even if I go on to have a hundred more children xxxx

@Michette I developed BV while pregnant. I went to a sexual health clinic and I was explained that you can get it during pregnancy because of hormonal changes. You can also get it while trying to conceive as the sperm has an alkaline ph and can make the vagina's ph (that should remain slightly acidic) more alkaline creating a change in the balance of the bacteria -> BV.

I was given a course of antibiotic that solved the problem and I was told to use when needed Canesflor Probiotic Vaginal Capsules to prevent its recurrence.

I hope it helps.

Michette · 14/02/2020 15:03

@MilsCookie oh no!!! Ok it’s probably not great the AB but if it treats might be just in time for ttc still...
I wouldn’t say it’s not happening this month for you! Don’t lose hope

When i got my BFP in december i had BV in november for ovulation and DTD

Hope you get better and @Anny27 too

Michette · 14/02/2020 15:00

@BS9790 lol said the exact same as you - no symptom spotting as nothing to spot 🤣

So yeah that sums up how i am getting on!
All good and nothing much
Healing from the cervical biopsy

Will test on Friday 21st at 13/14 dpo

Unless i have a good reason to test before!

How come you are testing early???

MilsCookie · 14/02/2020 14:58

@Anny27 oh man that's so annoying! Good luck with dtd over the next few days, fingers crossed it doesn't affect it in any way!

@Michette I wonder why it keeps happening around ovulation? I asked the doctor and he wasn't aware that they would be linked, but just said as it can be linked to sex maybe it's because you're doing it more around this time of the month?! Anyway I've been given a course of ABs so I'm not gonna get my hopes up this month!! 😒

BS9790 · 14/02/2020 13:50

6dpo here. No symptom spotting as nothing to spot! Been busy all week away on a work trip which has taken my mind off the TWW.

I was going to wait til Thursday, 12dpo to test, but now thinking I might test on Tuesday at 10dpo.

When do you usually test?
@Michette, how you getting on?

Hello to all ladies who are back from the January thread xx

Leok83 · 14/02/2020 13:09

@TerribleImagination sorry AF is here, it def doesn’t seem to be the case that we are more fertile after MC unfortunately😞.

I’m 3DPO now confirmed with my opk and BBT😃! Only took 35 days😄!!only DTD once day before ov..not feeling too hopeful so gonna take it that I’m expecting AF in couple weeks now. also interestingly got HCG level back from day after ov and was 10.7 still so obviously I ovulated with HCG in system still. Was told need to go back for repeat blood in another week..so now have to admit to doc I tried before reached zero..hopefully they won’t be too annoyed with me😬!

Michette · 14/02/2020 11:03

@Cometa08 no GP refused tests for me.
So i went private and had a Full blood done.
To mainly check any sign of inflamation or infection or clotting problems.
All was good...

Lucky yours checked thyroid though.

Michette · 14/02/2020 09:52

@MilsCookie i have the same issue every month of BV before ovulation. I found having a full day break helps as soon as you start noticing the symptoms.
I know it’s not great as you should be dtd but i found it really helps.

I am 6dpo and not symptoms spotting because nothing to spot!

Also because of the colposcopy/biopsy to cervix i have some brown thick discharge and small cramps anyway.

So not expecting much from this cycle :(

Anny27 · 14/02/2020 09:34

@Cometa08 I cant help sorry lovely as havent had any testing - I think some other ladies have though si hopefully they can respond

Anny27 · 14/02/2020 09:33

@MilsCookie I have thrush atm around ovulation time!!!! So annoying for us both haha. The doctor said we can DTD but might be uncomfortable ......a price I am willing to pay haha!

Cometa08 · 14/02/2020 09:26

Just a question for everybody:

After you got your miscarriage did you do any tests to check if there is any health issue?
We qualify for the full range of tests only after the 3rd miscarriage but my GP checked a few values anyway.

The most important value seems to be the thyroid that should be below 2.5, also the vitamin D.

MilsCookie · 14/02/2020 09:04

@TerribleImagination so sorry AF showed hun. It really is cruel that we're not catching straight away after mc!

@Anny27 ahh me too! Although I feel like I've got BV again - exactly like last month around ovulation?! What's that all about?! I'm so mad about it. Going to the GP this afternoon as want to dtd tonight but need to check if I can 🙈. Fingers crossed for you too my lovely! Will keep checking in to see how we're all getting on 😘 Xxx

Anny27 · 14/02/2020 08:21

Sorry AF arrived @terribleimagination:( have a glass of fizz for valentines day xx

@Annie0425 ohh yeah DTD and if it happens then great, but if not you get to enjoy your holiday next month

@MilsCookie exciting!! Hope you catch this month :D useful to know when you ovulate so then you will know when AF is due

@Hannah234 that's normal colour for me sometimes, see how it progresses xx

TerribleImagination · 14/02/2020 08:11

Thanks @Semele5069 and @Michette. I’m ok, just gutted 💔

@Hannah234 Both of my periods since my miscarriage have started that colour now, which I’ve never had before. I think miscarriages do weird things to our cycles!

Hannah234 · 14/02/2020 06:28

Happy Valentine's day everyone! BFN this morning and then wiped this... (TMI photo attached.) It surprised me because I've never seen this colour before - AF normally much redder. Only on wipe - not much of it. Kind of hoping it might be implantation bleeding, but didn't have any last time (MMC). Anyone recognise the colour? I'm CD 35 today, but didn't track ovulation.

@TerribleImagination sorry to hear!
And yes it is utter rubbish!

Hope you are ok x

Semele5069 · 13/02/2020 20:43

@TerribleImagination I'm sorry to hear that! I was the same when mine arrived yesterday. I was really so hopeful I would have got pregnant straight away again.xxx

TerribleImagination · 13/02/2020 20:39

AF arrived today. Absolutely gutted. Starting to think the whole ‘you’re more fertile after a miscarriage’ thing is utter rubbish 😢

MilsCookie · 13/02/2020 19:29

Hey @Anny27! Good to hear from you... This month I have stayed away from MN (like a few others I have read... @ChampooPapi waves) and it has done me the world of good. I love chatting to all you lovely ladies but MN in general was just making me feel more anxious.

I am currently on CD16 (cycle 2 since mc) and using OPKs this month for the first time (even though I told myself I wouldn't until we'd been ttc for at least 3 months!) and I think I just got my first positive. I am using the femometer app and it gave me a 'high' LH reading of 95, so I'll do another one before bed and try to dtd tonight and tomorrow! I almost feel more nervous now that I know ovulation is imminent! I don't have any EWCM though (just feel wetter down there) so hope that's not going to be a problem.

Hope all of you are doing well!! xxx Smile Star

Kona84 · 13/02/2020 19:18

So i finally got a negative pregnancy test on the 10th Feb - 20 days after my miscarriage started.
I have started testing for ovulation now but they have all been very negative.
Prior to my pregnancy I ovulate approximately day 20 of a 33/34 day cycle. My ovia app, based on the first day of miscarriage bleeding indicates i'm on day 23 of my cycle.

Is it accurate to use the first day of bleeding as a period in the tracking apps? or should i use the day my HCG levels dropped back to normal?
Me and my partner are keen to try again and I have read that its possible to be more fertile the first month after a miscarriage.

Happythecrocodile · 13/02/2020 18:11

@Leok83 thank you so much for sharing, it’s been so helpful Smile I mentioned OPKs to DH yesterday but he’s not too keen- he thinks it will add pressure and likes to try and keep a bit of spontaneity rather than being on a timetable (as much as you can be when TTC!). So I think we will leave them for this month and maybe try them next month (but 🤞we won’t need them next month).

Cometa08 · 13/02/2020 17:04

@Hannah234 Do you know exactly when you ovulated? I have read that it is more precise to consider the luteal phase lenght as it is subject to less variation. Also taking your bbt in the morning can help see where you stand.

Good luck for tomorrow!
