Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

@MrsKin90
I got an uncomfortable back, kinda sore and a brewing headache, apart from that I'm fine, getting the odd hot flush as well.

@LAG1986
Where to start,
With me it's been a small bowl, preseed or any fertility lubricant really, just make sure it's one which is designed to be used for conception as normal lubricant can damage sperm.
We used a medication plunger style syringe, the one you get with kids calpol.
This month my hubby and I decided to try a new method, which was to leave the sample sitting for 10 mins until it had liquified. It was easier to draw up in to the syringe that way.
So a step by step for us is this....

Hubby does the business, I'm on the bed, towel over the pillow that I'm going to raise my hips with, sample in the small plastic bowl, keep it warm by placing it against your skin I found holding it between my legs helped. Waited 10 mins and then drew the sample up the syringe, do this slowly as if you do it fast it will damage the baby makers.
Either by yourself or with hubby's help you need to bring yourself to orgasm, insert the syringe and press the plunger down slowly. Leave it in if it's comfortable and if you can orgasm again as this causes your cervix to dip in to the pool of sperm, then get your phone and play candy crush for about 20/30 mins 😁😁
That is pretty much it x

@AdriannaP 😔 sending you lots of hugs, I know they don't really help but I'm so sorry. I wish we had any power over these things.
@Carol1980 how are you feeling? What are you going to do now, just wait it out?

LAG1986 · 30/07/2020 21:58

Hi ladies. Myself and my partner are seriously considering trying self insemination, to see if it helps increase our chances. Any advise or success stories please? Kits you may have used or techniques? Thank you xxxx

Carol1980 · 30/07/2020 16:04

@AdriannaP my heart is breaking for you x I've been where you are and it's hard but will get easier with time x
I'm gutted that your at the hospital on your own x
Hopefully it's not an ectopic though x

I wish things had turned out different x

I'm not sure what is happening with me, no spotting but still no further forward.
I'm going to wait and see what happens x nothing I can do x

Don't think my dates are that far off to be honest x if I'm wrong on the dates then it would only be about 1 day out x I'm 16dpo today so that would mean I was 15dpo.... I'm almost convinced it's a chemical pregnancy or possibly an early loss but not compete as yet x

AdriannaP · 30/07/2020 15:30

No I am on my own. They didn’t allow it and also wouldn’t have childcare this afternoon. DH is with DD. Tomorrow is her birthday so have to pull myself together and be very happy for her tomorrow. At least I was not very far so didn’t get my hopes up or get too excited.

MrsKin90 · 30/07/2020 15:12

Were you able to take someone to the hospital with you Adrianna? I hope so because sitting there on your own is horrible under any circumstances but especially during something like this.

AdriannaP · 30/07/2020 14:49

I am at A&E now, waiting for bloods to be taken and to see a Dr.

LuckyFlash · 30/07/2020 14:47

@Carol1980 would your gp do a blood test to help you confirm? Or is it possible you have your ovulation date wrong and you’re less than 12dpo?

LuckyFlash · 30/07/2020 14:46

So sorry to hear this @AdriannaP 😢 what did they advise you to do at the scan?

AdriannaP · 30/07/2020 14:26

I passed some tissue now too. I think my dream is over. Completely heartbroken.

MrsKin90 · 30/07/2020 13:44

Oh no ☹️ I'm so sorry xxx

AdriannaP · 30/07/2020 11:37

Had a private scan and they can’t see a sac. She thinks could be a miscarriage or ectopic or just too early to see. So depressing.

Carol1980 · 30/07/2020 09:13

@AdriannaP I'm so sorry to hear that your bleeding more 😢 hope it's nothing major x

I took a test with FMU, and below is the result, it got a tiny bit darker but to be honest I would have expected it to be darker than before by now so I'm not getting my hopes up xx

AdriannaP · 30/07/2020 08:59

I am bleeding more now so will book a private scan in for tomorrow. I am
6 weeks now.

Carol1980 · 30/07/2020 00:06

@AdriannaP
Another good point is if the midwife isn't concerned then try not to worry too much xx

Have you calculated how far along you are ?

Have you looked at early private scans yet ?

With my daughter we booked for the date that we would be dead on 6 weeks as at least there was a chance of seeing is the sack was intact etc and we saw the flicker of the heartbeat then booked one for 8 weeks which was really reassuring x

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 20:17

Those are all great signs @AdriannaP ❤️

AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 19:46

I have metallic taste in my mouth, feel a bit nauseous late morning, and need to wee a lot!!

AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 19:45

Yes just light pink spotting. No pad needed, it only comes 2-3 times a day when I wipe. Not all the time.
Midwife wasn’t concerned, as I am not in pain and spotting not increasing. She said it can also be an irritation of the cervix.

I have one DD, who is 5. I was pregnant last year but had a MC. Had some light spotting at the beginning of my last pregnancy.

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 19:25

@AdriannaP oh and that's great about having pregnancy symptoms x what are they ? X

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 19:23

@AdriannaP is it still light pink spotting ? And is it actually hitting a pad or h see wear or only when you wipe ? X

Hopefully like @MrsKin90 had said that some folk simply spot more during pregnancy x

Sorry I don't know if you've mentioned before do you have any other kids ?

I remember having random spotting with my daughter but I didn't take any notes on my Ovia the last time so can't be sure when it was x

AdriannaP · 29/07/2020 19:17

Fingers crossed @Carol1980
I am not testing anymore, as I have some early pregnancy symptoms. Unfortunately I am also spotting again 😪 spoke to a midwife today who told me there is nothing I can do. Unless spotting increases or it’s dark red they won’t see me. So it’s a waiting game really...

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 17:29

Possibly xx

I'll be waiting until tomorrow to take the second one in the pack x

MrsKin90 · 29/07/2020 17:08

It's positive that it's still positive - could it be faint because it wasn't first morning urine or because you drank too much before testing?

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 11:24

Sorry that should read mid morning not afternoon x

Carol1980 · 29/07/2020 11:23

I took a clear blue test mid afternoon and got the below result so still showing as positive but not very strong. Going to wait until later today and see if I can do another test. I'm technically 14dpo today x
