Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

Morning x

Took a clearblue plus this morning, I've got total lines eyes now, I can't tell if it's darker than it was 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ I seriously need to get my mind out of the gutter with it.
I think the unfortunate thing is when you go to google for answers your inevitably going to get not so great posts about it in your search, as the small minority who would have the questions are already thinking that something is wrong. You get a few who say 'oh yeah I had that' but they are few and far between.
This is the test from this morning FMU x

Google is definitely not your friend! I'm sorry you're having such a tough time with it right now.
That post makes a lot of sense re. How the weeks can be different and inaccurate from person to person.
I do wonder if lines tests are better if you're going to be testing for progression because at least It's clear how they're working.
How are you feeling today?

Carol1980 · 30/08/2020 22:05

@MrsKin90
Fuck my last post just found this and it's actually made me relax a bit !!!

I'm getting nervous that I won't see the 2-3 weeks to be honest. I hope I'm wrong and everything is absolute fine, but google is not my friend.
I checked back on the info I logged on my app from the last time and I got 2-3 weeks at 15dpo...I'm 18dpo today so bit concerned that my hcg isn't rising as it should in which case it will either be an early miscarriage or by the time I get to my scan it will show that the baby stopped growing at like 5 weeks or something.

At the moment I'm only 3 days late for my AF anyway x

I think I'm just worried that we won't be that lucky, after all the months of nothing and chemical pregnancies I'm just feeling a bit hopeless about it all but at the same time I know I will be beyond excited if all turns out to be ok.
I know that two pregnancies are not the same but when I look online I've only really found posts where folk are saying that at 18dpo they also got the 1-2 weeks on a clearblue and they have all ended in miscarriages 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

MrsKin90 · 30/08/2020 20:04

Last insemination this evening just in case. Ah nightmare. Can you drink decaf? It tastes different if you ask me but I manage 😆 you're still allowed a bit when pregnant aren't you?

I can understand not telling him but will you need some support from him if anything happens? I'd want to protect my husband as well but you shouldn't do it at your own expense. I'm excited to see your 2-3 weeks test in a couple of days 🤞

Carol1980 · 30/08/2020 16:29

Hopefully the change in tactics pays off x I love coffee....it's my favourite thing but I'm trying to limit my intake now 🤦🏼‍♀️

To be honest I try my best to not get his hopes up, I don't want to see the disappointment in his face x

MrsKin90 · 30/08/2020 15:30

I'm really hoping for a bfp this cycle but of course we all do every cycle. We shall see! I've tried letting the semen sit warmly and liquify before putting it in the syringe for all our inseminations this time. I've also abandoned conceive plus this cycle as it didn't help for the last three and left a bit of a burning sensation. My hubby has been taking a generic multivitamin (no idea if that does anything lol) and I've been taking COQ10 and I severely reduced my caffeine intake to 'I am now a sleepy zombie' level. Not sure what more I can do really 🤦

I'm so excited for you, try to be positive if you can. You're probably just a tiny bit too early for the 2-3. Will you do another test Monday or Tuesday morning? I think that sounds like a lovely way to tell him when he's back 😊 no judgment from me for not telling him, you do what you feel is right! Xx

Carol1980 · 30/08/2020 09:07

I always find the early dpo the most frustrating as you just want to know if it's happened or not !

I'm 18dpo ( still counting as dpo until I'm 100% sure this will stick)
Sounds really bad but I've not told the hubby yet x the plan is to tell him when he's back home on Tuesday x he's working away for a few days. I've ordered a t-shirt for our daughter which says I'm going to be a big sister, and just wait and see if he notices what is on it when he comes home on Tuesday afternoon/early evening.

I really hope we get our 2-3 weeks on the clear blue by then, as if not the. I'm probably looking at a miscarriage, which I've had before at 5 weeks prior to being pregnant with my daughter.

I took a weeks indicator this morning but it's still got 1-2 weeks, I'm a little concerned, but at the same time, you usually have to have quite high hcg for that to even show up in the first place

MrsKin90 · 30/08/2020 08:48

I'm 3dpo according to my BBT but I think I might be more like 1dpo. 😊 But I'll go with 3dpo for now. We inseminated on O day and 2 days before if I got by being 3dpo and I prefer that 😂 otherwise we only did 2 days before. Although we are going to do today as well just in case. Always do one for 'luck' in case my bbt is wrong or something!

How is everyone?

MrsKin90 · 27/08/2020 07:31

@Carol1980 omg! Hoooray!! 😍 Congratulations! That's amazing!

@bigsweetpotato welcome! 😊 I just but syringes off of amazon. Hope you can get your husband on board with this method!

Hope everyone else is okay today! I'm meant to ovulate tomorrow and have had lots of cramps but not sure really as ewcm is usually more than it is 😟 hope it's soon!

Carol1980 · 26/08/2020 23:39

I'm such a POS slut !

This evening I took the other weeks indicator test ( bought some at costco a few months ago so had a twin pack left)

Annnnnndddddddddd Boooya !!

Holy shitballs I'm actually preggers !!

I'm so nervous ! Like beyond nervous ! I've had a miscarriage before ( before I got pregnant with my daughter) and I was only 5 weeks along, I just hope to god this sticks and we have our 2nd on the way !

Carol1980 · 26/08/2020 10:59

@bigsweetpotato hi and welcome.
We did the at home sperm test. We got a kit from a website called Dr Fertility and found it quite easy to use x
Worth a try x

@AdriannaP exciting times, I'm due on tomorrow so fingers crossed this wee bean stays put. I took the clear blue weeks predictor this morning and it came up 'not pregnant' but I know that they can be quite bad unless your about a week past your expected period so not overly concerned about that just now x

AdriannaP · 26/08/2020 10:31

Amazing news @Carol1980 fingers crossed.
I have my period again, first period since my MC (I was advised not to try until I had a period). I got pregnant just inseminating so it definitely works.

@bigsweetpotato I buy syringes and pots from amazon. Ebay has them too.

bigsweetpotato · 26/08/2020 09:09

Hi all
First time poster and very new to this so I'm sorry I don't know all the abbreviations!
My Husband and I have been ttc for over 6 months, I'm 37 so am feeling the pressure. Quite often husband finds it difficult to come so I am starting to consider insemination. My husband wants to keep trying natural but when we only do it once in my window and plus my age I feel the chances of conceiving naturally may be pretty low. I’ve joined this thread to get some tips and to feel some hope!

I’ve been using OPKs (Femometer) and quite naively thought all OPKs were the same but having read various posts in the last month I think some may be better than others!! So I have bought some Wondfo and Clearblue digital ones to try as well for next cycle.

Sounds silly but we haven’t been to the drs yet because of the whole Covid situation. Has anyone tried at-home fertility tests for sperm? And where have you got your syringes from?
Sorry for the long post and looking forward to getting know you all

Oilyoilyoilgob · 26/08/2020 08:55

@Carol1980 omg just catching up-fantastic news and I can see a line on your hcg test! How are you?

How is everyone doing? @MrsKin90 I hope you’re feeling a bit better? Sorry you’re feeling down, it’s bloody tough doing this. Hoping at least on here you feel we’re here for you 😊 It’s nice to come on here and have people who just get it.

I’m a few days post period and have started our first proper month of opk testing, I’m using the premom app and taking pictures but I agree with above-the colours seems much more vivid in real life and don’t photo well. I’m winding myself up that it might not show ovulation or I don’t ovulate and my husband has said to chill out and see.
It’s so strange how it’s almost drummed into us about avoiding unwanted pregnancy during sex but actually the opposite can be true-it’s not just one time unprotected and hey ho you’re pregnant!

I’m back working but am focussing on staying well mentally and not stressing too much over clients etc. I want to be in a good a place as possible to help to (hopefully) get pregnant.

I really do hope everyone is well and healthy 💚 xx

Carol1980 · 25/08/2020 23:50

Cervix* not service 🤦🏼‍♀️

Carol1980 · 25/08/2020 23:49

Apologies @LAG1986 I was in the middle of a response to you but I was at work 🤦🏼‍♀️

The way we do it and tips.....

Cup, syringe, something to read,
Hubby/partner/speed guy whoever it is puts a sample in a cup, best thing for you to do is be on your back with your hips raised under a pillow, we put a towel down in case of any seepage.
Once the sample is ready you can either draw up in to the syringe right away or ( and I've tried it both ways) keep the sample at body temp next to your thigh etc and wait 10 mins for it is liquify a bit more. When your drawing it up in to the syringe do it very slowly so as not to damage the sperm. Get in to your position and relax as much as you can.
Now either your partner can help or you do it yourself but put the syringe in ( either before or after you orgasm) ideally it's better to orgasm with the sample already in. Slowly depress the plunger in, again so as not to damage the sperm and if you can orgasm again. The orgasm causes your service to dip in to the sperm which will be pooled inside and 🤷‍♀️hey presto !

Hope this helps x
Again sorry for such a late reply x

LAG1986 · 25/08/2020 23:09

Thank you so much @MrsKin90.
I will give that a try. I wish you the very best of luck with your journey. Fingers crossed you get a positive result soon xx

MrsKin90 · 25/08/2020 10:50

@Carol1980 that's looking really good! Are you testing today also?
@primrosechill hope your tww is going okay!!

I'm still waiting to O, CD17 today and I usually ovulate around now so will see although the last few cycles have been a bit later.

@LAG1986 I think this method works well if you can't have sex naturally but think natural has a slightly better success rate. I try not to overcomplicate it and just use a plastic pot (clean and dry) and a 2.5ml syringe (no needle on the end obviously). I tried a bigger one at first, 5ml. But I prefer the smaller ones so would recommend them in comparison! I think it must all be about timing but everyone else will have better tips as I've not had any success yet but didn't want to ignore your message 😊

LAG1986 · 24/08/2020 23:36

@Carol1980 this is fab!!

I'm new to this thread. Seriously considering trying the syringe method. Any tips or advise anyone? Xx

Carol1980 · 24/08/2020 20:18

Totally caved and took a IC 🤦🏼‍♀️

But it's getting darker !!!!!

Self insemination - Any success stories?!
Carol1980 · 24/08/2020 12:26

@MrsKin90 hopefully x

MrsKin90 · 24/08/2020 12:24

@Carol1980 I can see a line but the pic doesn't look pink - I think things always look more coloured in person as a lot can be said for differences in phone screen resolutions etc. That's exciting though! I look forward to seeing your darker lines over the next few days! x

Carol1980 · 24/08/2020 11:55

@primrosechill
Frer was very faint and didn't photograph too well but darker than it has been, would t blame you for not seeing it but def there, it came up a bit more pink after the 10 mins 🤷‍♀️

I've got some clearblue coming tomorrow so will test then

Self insemination - Any success stories?!
primrosechill · 24/08/2020 10:36

@Carol1980 how was the frer test this morning?

I'll try my best not to test early this week but I usually crack around 10DPO so fully expect myself to be peeing on a stick on the weekend haha.
