Self insemination - Any success stories?!

Hi everyone,

I have NC'd for this to save our blushes!
DH and I have just had our first round of IVF which was sadly unsuccessful after an early miscarriage.
We have 2 frozen embryos but we would like to TTC naturally for the next 6 month's first in the hope the IVF hormones might help boost our chances.
DH has always struggled to ejaculate inside me when DTD. Therefore we have decided to try self insemination in the hope it will take away some of the stress.

I would love to hear any success stories.

Also which insemination kit did you buy?

Has anyone tried a soft cup / Ferti Lily conception cup after inserting the syringe to help things along?

Thanks everyone!

@Oilyoilyoilgob oh no I'm so sorry to hear that. Stay strong xxx

Carol1980 · 28/09/2020 08:53

@Oilyoilyoilgob
Sorry to hear about what has happened x
It yes there are lots of chemicals unfortunately 😞

I am currently 14dpo but getting negative tests and AF was due yesterday so my cycle is obviously a bit out due to the MC as this is my first cycle after it x

MrsKin90 · 28/09/2020 07:27

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm so sorry to hear your news. Make sure you take good care of yourself and each other. I'm glad your husband is being a good support for you.

eloiseislost · 28/09/2020 05:38

I'm so sorry @Oilyoilyoilgob it must have been so difficult for you and your husband. I hope you find some peace and strength to keep going. Your rainbow baby will come! Thanks

LAG1986 · 27/09/2020 23:18

@Oilyoilyoilgob you know it works. Keep going and it will happen. I get sad every time I test or af arrives, so I stopped testing a while back. You sound like you have an amazing husband. X

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 22:24

@LAG1986 thank you. I’m feeling bruised both emption wise and inner elbows as a momento from yesterday.

I feel I’ve let my husband down and he’s been amazing. The little package I gave him with baby stuff in on Monday night and he has been saying, well we’ll use them next time. He’s been so lovely and is his usual very positive self-he’s the best support I could ask for during tough times.

I’m ok but this week has been an absolute rollercoaster and I’m having a proper adrenal slump.

I’m taking from it that inseminating definitely does work and we were very nearly there! So close.
I’m definitely definitely waiting to test now if I’m late again, even if like this time I get very early symptoms. I’d rather wait it out then have this again but i will keep going forward and take these few days on my period to look after myself (and have cups of tea, I quit them when I got positive pregnancy tests) xx

LAG1986 · 27/09/2020 22:08

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm so sorry to hear your news. Its heart breaking for you. X

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 21:36

Sorry I didn’t see the posts above. We are using a normal 5ml syringe. Plastic cups with red screw lid.
We did 7 straight days of syringing and x5 of those husband kept so erm warm next to his belly under his top for ten mins so it went really watery. It obviously worked and the sorry met the egg but sadly along the way the chemical happened x

Oilyoilyoilgob · 27/09/2020 21:33

Hi everyone. After a half day in a&e yesterday thinking I may be having an ectopic, it turns out my blood and wee showed no pregnancy so looks like it was a chemical.

I had symptoms from 15/9 of pregnancy and tested two days after my expected period and had three positives this mon 21/9.

I’m feeling a huge mix of emotions thinking I was pregnant this week to finding out nothing. If there’s a silver lining I’m glad the bleeding is obviously my period, not a miscarriage/ectopic but I’m feeling very hurt and feeling like a really cruel trick has been played on me 😞

My husband has been amazing. He couldn’t wait with me in a&e so that was tough. My anxiety rocketed in there and I had to have an ecg due to my absolute racing heart. After 4 hours he caved and cane in and I immediately felt better. I know the situation but god I really feel if needed we should be allowed someone there with us.

I’m licking my wounds right now but we will keep on going. I’m thinking I’m either very sensitive to the hormone change (likely as I’m mega sensitive) or they rocketed for some reason but the sickness, metal taste, vivid dreams etc. So obvious the hormones were running around my body.

We’re taking from this that insemination does work so we’ll definitely keep going. I read online 30-50% of all pregnancies are chemicals. Going forward we’ve agreed I won’t test for at least 7-9 days after my predicted period. I was originally due Sat 19th and actually started yesterday at 4.30am.

I’m so sorry to add a shit post but obviously I need to as I’m not pregnant 😞

@Iloveoreos

There goes my frer to waste ..bfn for me.. here come the tears As one of the ladies said above not out of the game until AF arrives so staying positive xx
I am sorry about your BFN, I had a lot this month, started testing at 8 DPO and the stark white on the test was driving me mad each time. You are right, you are not out until AF arrives, so try and stay positive! Which is easier said than done of course…!
eloiseislost · 27/09/2020 14:09
@eloiseislost CB are good but they will drive you mad each month while you search for your static smiley face! Currently on day three of flashing smiley and getting impatient! But easier to interpret than the cheaper ones (although I still get those when I'm testing twice a day!) #Obsessed Confused
I'm the obsessive type too… Caved in and bought the CB digital, see how it goes this month. I have some back up cheapie strips to fall back on and do multiple tests daily Grin

Thank you @MrsKin90 Daffodil I am surprisingly calm about it today, I can't wait to start again, onwards and upwards!
I am thinking of getting a digital CB ovulation kit, I am trying to justify spending £30 on it instead of a tenner for 40 strips… Blush Any help? Grin

Lori23TTC · 26/09/2020 11:03

@Oilyoilyoilgob massive congratulations lovely!! So so happy for you and your hubby!! It’s made me feel so confident this can happen this way! This month we only did the syringe method as hubby really struggling with ED so we thought let’s take the stress away and only do it this way (made me feel like it’s not going to happen but after hearing this I feel much happier!) can I ask what syringes you used?? Xxx

eloiseislost · 26/09/2020 05:19

@Oilyoilyoilgob I'm late to the party, but huge CONGRATULATIONS! AF reared its ugly head 4 days early for me yesterday and I was feeling so low but I just saw your BFP and honestly I feel so much better going into cycle #2! May you have a happy, peaceful pregnancy! SmileStar

bigsweetpotato · 25/09/2020 19:41

@Oilyoilyoilgob oh my god wow congratulations!! Happy for you! And all through SI which is absolutely amazing :)

Oilyoilyoilgob · 25/09/2020 10:13

@Busybee93 thank you so very much 💚☺️ It’s all very surreal but like you all we are delighted that it works, no hint of anything else as there was zero sex or sexual stuff that week! We’d had a busy week work wise so husband did the deed before dinner and then I had the 20-30 mins before dinner. Just a nice relaxed routine.

I also thought that re sperm because obviously during sex it just shoots up! As part of our therapy last year, as part of it was psychosexual, we learned everything about sex organs and how they work-I loved it 🤓 😄the cervix dips for the sperm during orgasm so that’s why I tried my best and those first five days I made sure I had at least one during laying down time.
The sperm was lovely and liquidy (never thought I’d write that sentence!) so maybe it helps more? He just sat with it in the cup with lid by his belly and under his top, and kept it nice and warm. We did this because my husband had been researching it online and thought we’d try it 💚

bigblueboots · 25/09/2020 09:42

@Busybee93 We read (at some point during the research phase, I don't remember where at all!) that between 15 and 30 minutes after ejaculation is the best time for the sperm. No idea how accurate it is, but it's what we've been going for!

Busybee93 · 25/09/2020 09:12

Also interesting RE allowing the sperm to liquify! What about those who conceive during normal intercourse? I'd just assumed you'd need to get it up there ASAP! Will try liquefying tomorrow. Finally got my flashing smiley! SmileSmile

Busybee93 · 25/09/2020 09:11

@Oilyoilyoilgob congratulations! Such wonderful news and I don't know about every body else but fills me with so much confidence that it CAN happen this way! Been feeling super negative this week, so this has really lifted my spirits.

Fingers crossed for a happy and healthy 9 months! GrinStar

Oilyoilyoilgob · 25/09/2020 08:37

@bigblueboots and @Carol1980 and @primrosechill thank you ever so much, I massively appreciate your kindness and it’s made me feel a bit teary from you all. It’s a bloody weird lonely road knowing you’re inseminating to make a baby and I hugely appreciate feeling part of a team 💚

@primrose I’m wishing you a wonderful, destressed holiday and enjoy virtually throwing away your phone. It’ll be so lovely for you both and its what we all need to do-listen to that inner voice for self care 💚 have a wonderful time and I’m pleased my news has given that uplift that it can be done!

My husband warmed the sperm cup on his belly under his top 5 out of the 7 times, first time we’d done that so it was very watery. I also spent at least 20 mins supported under a cushion with legs up (but bum not that high) and brough myself to orgasm those 5 times too (the last two days it wasn’t possible to do either). Not sure if that helps anyone but the difference in the sperm consistency after ten minutes was eye opening!

💚💚
