Hey! Just looking for some folks in a similar position to start a chat with.

I'm 34 and have been trying for a second child for 6 months. With my first, I didn't realise how lucky we were when we got pregnant in the first cycle with no real trying. I was 30 at the time. Our daughter has just turned 4.

This time, I tried the relaxed approach for a couple of months to start with and then resorted to opks and an app to give some guidance as to when would be a good time to try.

Anyway, after trying for 6 months with no joy, I'm beginning to feel a bit anxious. I can't stop wondering if there's a problem and can't stop googling!!

Please join if you're in a similar position and wanting to chat! X

@SomethingAboutYou I don't know how to be patient which is crazy cause normally im very patient. I don't know how im going to make it 14 days lol

SomethingAboutYou · 09/02/2020 16:20

Woop @LBB2020 hoping for good news for you this week!

Welcome to the dreaded TWW @FairyG I'm either 3dpo or 4dpo. I've already started going a bit crazy with it Blush

FairyG · 09/02/2020 15:51

1 DPO today, hopefully this month is it!

60sPony · 09/02/2020 15:40

@SomethingAboutYou it’s based on the idea that girl sperm are slower but live longer and boy sperm are quicker but have a shorter lifespan. So if you do it before ovulation it is more likely that the girl sperm will have outlived the boy sperm whereas if you do it on ovulation the fast boy sperm will get there first - supposedly! Like I said, not sure how much I believe it but will give it a go for a couple or months then if no joy just try over ovulation time.

Your totally right that same sex siblings are lovely though.

LBB2020 · 09/02/2020 15:02

Hi can I join too?
We have a 2.5 year old and I’m impatiently waiting to see if AF arrives this week! This is our first cycle so not holding out much hope but you never know! (DC1 was conceived first cycle)

SomethingAboutYou · 09/02/2020 10:35

Hi @60sPony 🙋 are there any other things you're doing for a girl? I've not looked into this before so hadn't heard about the pre-ovulation theory. For some reason I'd like another boy, probably because my siblings are all girls and DHs siblings are all boys so I'm not used to a mixed house! A BFP full stop would be great right now, but out of choice, I'd go for another boy!

60sPony · 08/02/2020 20:29

Hello, can I join 🙋🏼‍♀️
My DS is 2.5 and we have started trying for number 2.. Very vaguely trying to swing for a girl by doing it before ovulation but not sure I believe it really works anyway and would still be happy with another DS. It would only be to balance the household.

SomethingAboutYou · 06/02/2020 22:53

Sorry to hear that @littletandme you have a week so fingers crossed for valentines 🤞

Hope you're alright @inahaze it's not great timing for you is it? Hope it clears quickly.

Lnix · 06/02/2020 22:48

Oh that's a shame sorry to hear it 😑 hope you're ok. It's so crap!

littletandme · 06/02/2020 20:48

So I'm out this month, horrendous cramping and spotting at 13dpo after a big temp drop this morning. Onwards to cycle, I hope AF is gone by Valentine's Day!

inahaze · 06/02/2020 14:56

I think I've given myself BV from too much sex Confused

FairyG · 05/02/2020 23:11

@SomethingAboutYou we've been doing it everyday and quite frankly I'm tired but so want this to be our month so I'm going to keep DTD at least the next 2 weeks since I'm not sure when ovulation will be.

SomethingAboutYou · 05/02/2020 22:53

Hi @fairyg 🙋 I'm CD22 which is ovulation day for me (bloomin long cycles). Managed to DTD 3 times this week, not sure if it will be enough but feel like we've hit our limit for this cycle Grin

I work in marketing.

FairyG · 05/02/2020 13:08

@inahaze glad to hear someone else is at a similar place. I actually got a period the month we stopped and last month too. It was a little heavier than usual the first month and only slightly heavier last month but only lasted the usual number of days.

I use to work in childcare but have been a stay at home mom now.

inahaze · 05/02/2020 11:10

looks like a lot of us are due to test around the same time!! my period is due 23rd of february so a lot of anticipation for that weekend.... ahead of our 3rd anniversary celebrations! eek!!

hi @FairyG ! very similar to you, i'm cycle day 8, i should ovulate in the next 3 days, we've had 3 nights of consecutive bonking, probably need at least 3 more for good measure. This is also month 2 of trying. Did you get your period back quickly after stopping breastfeeding?

i feel i should declare at this point that i am a breastfeeding counsellor, for the sake of transparency! I'm training towards being IBCLC

what does everyone else do?

FairyG · 04/02/2020 22:51

Hi ladies. I'm on CD8, second cycle TTC. Not testing or tracking so not sure when I'll ovulate. I stopped breastfeeding my almost 14 month old DS in December because I wasn't getting AF. We are DTD everyday day (since CD4).

SomethingAboutYou · 04/02/2020 22:14

There are pros and cons to birthdays anytime of the year, DSis is end of August which is lovely in terms of weather and events, but when they all went on hols post A-Levels she was still 17 so without proper ID for any of the pubs and clubs! DS has his bday in the weird zone between xmas and new yr, it will be fab for him when he's 18+ and wants people to go out celebrate with him Wine I just find it stressful arranging xmas and bday presents and trying to fit in seeing family and doing something nice for his birthday. I stress too much about the little things Confused

Lnix · 04/02/2020 20:50

@Ejb86 and @SomethingAboutYou yeah December birthdays are tricky! We are similar in that neatly everyone in the entire family and extended family fits into the October-Dec bracket. Imagine a summer baby! Soooo different!

OP posts:
Ejb86 · 04/02/2020 20:36

@Lnix my LB will be 3 on 21st Dec this year. Christmas birthdays are tricky aren't they? We have what feels like hundreds of birthdays from Dec to March, so I'd like to avoid those dates this time. However, if we haven't been lucky by then I wont be stopping trying. Beggars cant be choosers!

SomethingAboutYou · 04/02/2020 20:33

DS is a Christmas baby so we don't want 2 at the same time as it's difficult enough as it is! I don't know how I'll feel taking a month "off" but then every xmas since birth we've vowed not to do the same again with a second baby!

Lnix · 04/02/2020 20:06

@SomethingAboutYou it does have silver linings indeed! Feel like my 4 year old can do pretty much everything for herself now! I need to focus on this and make my peace with the age gap. It was through choice at first...just wasn't expecting ttc to go on and on. My DD is a VERY Christmassy birthday...it is a bit of a pain to be fair but think we'll risk carrying on trying! X

OP posts:
SomethingAboutYou · 04/02/2020 19:28

Yes @Emelene AF is due between 19-22 feb so will be testing around the same time.

@inahaze & @lnix I have the same age-gap anxiety. We won't be trying late March-April as we want to avoid a xmas baby so I'm putting a little pressure on myself to conceive this cycle so he'll still be 3 when #2 is born. We foolishly thought we'd have a small age gap (until the reality of parenthood settled in) so its hard to shrug off that idea. I can see how much easier it will be though now that DS is getting more independent and can do things himself so silver linings!

Lnix · 04/02/2020 19:13

@Emelene Hi again! I'm in my fertile week and due to test 22nd! Trying 'SMEP' which is sex every other day until a positive opk and then 3 times in a row...or something like that...we shall see how we manage that! X

OP posts:
Emelene · 04/02/2020 18:26

Hi ladies. Nice to see the chat is still going! Smile

I have a 5 year age group between me and my sister, it was nice growing up. Smile

I think I'm in my fertile week again so that's good. Anyone else due to test around 22nd?

Lnix · 04/02/2020 18:05

@inahaze YES I have serious age gap anxiety!! My daughter was 4 at the end of December. But then I try to be rational at the same time...lots of people have small age gap but I'm a teacher of 6 year olds and quite a few of them have a sibling under 1 and it all seems very normal. I mean, I don't ever look at them and think WOW why have you got such a tiny sibling!?
