Anyone TTC second baby?

Hey! Just looking for some folks in a similar position to start a chat with.

I'm 34 and have been trying for a second child for 6 months. With my first, I didn't realise how lucky we were when we got pregnant in the first cycle with no real trying. I was 30 at the time. Our daughter has just turned 4.

This time, I tried the relaxed approach for a couple of months to start with and then resorted to opks and an app to give some guidance as to when would be a good time to try.

Anyway, after trying for 6 months with no joy, I'm beginning to feel a bit anxious. I can't stop wondering if there's a problem and can't stop googling!!

Please join if you're in a similar position and wanting to chat! X

Hi @CeceJo - I'm still BF my 15 month old too, quite a lot! There's a really good specific TTC while breastfeeding Facebook group. Smile

I'm hoping it won't affect fertility too much as my cycles are back. My AF was due today so I'm testing in the morning... eek!

Beesly · 22/02/2020 15:50

Sorry @CeceJo I don’t have medical advice but I know people who have fallen pregnant while breast feeding so I wouldn’t have thought it was a huge factor to not falling. But maybe someone more knowledgeable will reply!
My cycles are quite long too, its so frustrating isn’t it

CeceJo · 22/02/2020 15:17

Hi all. I'm ttc baby no 2 and have super long cycles and this morning got dreaded AF. Absolutely gutted as had completely convinced myself I was pregnant during the long 2 week wait, (more like 3 for me) unwrapped the test to take it today and found AF instead. It's seventh cycle now and baby no 1 took at least 6 months as well. Just joining to hear your experiences and get some advice. Wondering if I am making it harder for myself as baby 1 still has the occasional BF? She is 17 months so doesn't need it but is comforting for her. Do you think it would have an affect?

Beesly · 22/02/2020 14:28

@Lnix well I have been trying to drink more water in the hope that it produces better quality CM.
When’s your AF due? Mines Thursday. Last time I was pregnant I got a positive on 9 DPO which would be tomorrow but I’ve purposefully not got any tests in the house. With my daughter I managed to wait until the day AF was due so I’m trying to recreate that!

Lnix · 22/02/2020 14:20

@Beesly so what meant was - yeah they can look to be a bit all over the place just depending on those factors - but if you test regularly enough you should see a clear positive at some stage, as you did x

@Beesly opks can be impacted by various things - time of day, first morning wee, dehydration, ultra hydration, length of time since you last did a wee etc Best course of action is to test twice daily between 10am and 8pm (I actually test 3 times due to not want to do it at work, so first thing, when I'm home at 5 and before bed). I usually catch the surge. Still no BFP though after several cycles! We tried SMEP this month. But I feel like AF is grumbling in the background, am due in a few days xx

@Lnix that’s what I was guessing it as, thank you for confirming! I was so confused as they look all over the place compared to ones I see online. Last month I caught the surge randomly at about 3.30pm without tracking beforehand but had to wait until after 10pm for DH to get home from work so I guess that wasn’t quick enough. This time we have done it 4 days in a row (exhausting) around ovulation so surely! I’m gonna look into SMEP for next month

Lnix · 22/02/2020 07:40

Hey @Beesly I think it looks like your got your positive surge on day 19 and were still surging into day 20? Which would suggest likely ovulation on day 20. What do you think?

@Beesly - yeah totally makes sense. I don't remember people being so nosy before! It's not upsetting me at the moment per se but it does remind me how much I want another child. Sad

Beesly · 19/02/2020 16:39

@Emelene God yeah! I was trying to think if I’ve always been asked that and previously brushed it off whereas now it’s really getting to me, does that make sense?

Emelene · 19/02/2020 16:17

I seem to be getting loads of questions about "having another one" at the moment... anyone else?
I just answer enthusiastically that we are really hoping for another one soon... I don't know if that's TMI? Blush

60sPony · 19/02/2020 09:31

I keep getting terrible back pains... in sure it’s nothing but it’s suddenly made me so aware of every twinge

Emelene · 19/02/2020 04:58

Congratulations @SomethingAboutYou! Smile How exciting xx

SomethingAboutYou · 18/02/2020 17:47

Thanks @Beesly

Beesly · 18/02/2020 08:33

@inahaze I’ll look into it, thanks

Beesly · 18/02/2020 08:30

@Somethingaboutyou congratulations!!!

SomethingAboutYou · 18/02/2020 07:56

Thanks!

@inahaze I'm feeling fine thanks. Very excited but started to worry about things going wrong already! 🤦‍♀️ I'm 13dpo today so nhs site says 3 weeks pregnant. Old system of counting from date of last period puts me at 5 weeks thanks to my long cycles so we'll see where the midwife slots me in for appts etc, if things go well and I get that far🤞

60sPony · 18/02/2020 07:33

@SomethingAboutYou woohoo congratulations!

inahaze · 18/02/2020 07:22

@Beesly sorry I have no clue about opk.

I charted years ago and it was great. Not sure I can this time with a 4 yr old who is up in the night/early hours

inahaze · 18/02/2020 07:20

Yayyyyyyy! Congrats!! How you feeling? How many dpo are you?

SomethingAboutYou · 17/02/2020 21:28

Erm, I just caved and peed on a stick....Shock I've only gone and got myself a bfp!!

Thank you. They’re more stressful than helpful tbh. I give up with them if I’m still trying next month. I might try temp measuring though. My DD was 4 last month and she’s currently in our bed not well so she’s not making it very easy to make her a baby sibling!! Driving myself crazy 😩

SomethingAboutYou · 17/02/2020 21:07

@beesly sorry about your MC, I haven't used ovulation sticks, but that looks tricky to decipher. Hope someone more experienced comes along to help you with it. Flowers

Beesly · 17/02/2020 17:38

Hi I don’t know if this is the right place but I was wondering if anyone could help me decipher when I’m ovulating. I had a miscarriage in November so I assume my cycle is still getting back to normal but it’s usually around 32 days.

@60sPony good idea not having any tests in the house! I bought mine at the weekend as I've signed up to give blood on Friday so want to be able to test before that. Having them in the drawer is definitely making it harder to avoid!!
