Dry January

Anyone else doing dry January this month? I could do with some motivation and comradery! I'm on CD2 of cycle 2 ttc #1. Last month was our first try, but tbh it was always going to be a bit unlikely as my TWW fell right over Christmas and NY, and I fully enjoyed myself and ate and drank a LOT 😂 This month I'm doing dry January, both for my general health and also to possibly improve my chances of conceiving this month. I'm not a midweek drinker, but I have a feeling Friday and Saturday nights will be tricky once I'm back at work! Anyone want to join me on this thread for a bit of support?

I'm doing dry January too! First time doing it, husband is doing it with me. Quite enjoying our elderflower drink right now but definitely would like a glass of wine. Just telling myself this will hopefully help our chances for this month

Takeaway sounds like an excellent option @bluemoon2468 👍 I'm demolishing a tub of pringles...

lucymagoo · 10/01/2020 19:35

Friday nights are the real test! I did dry January last year and Friday evenings were the only time I missed a glass of wine or a beer. Could really do with one now

bluemoon2468 · 10/01/2020 18:44

Unfortunately my husband is at a poker night with all of his mates and I'm home alone 🙄 Although it's probably easier for me to stay sober that way as I don't really drink alone anyway... if I was out with friends it'd be worse 😕 Treating myself to a takeaway instead 😊

Stay strong @bluemoon2468 💪🏻I've got my niece staying tonight as a distraction for me. Have you got plans to keep you busy?

bluemoon2468 · 10/01/2020 17:08

I knew Friday nights would be the hardest! Already dying for a glass (or two, or three) of wine 😣 Staying strong though!

@MGee123 I’m also on cd11 :) neg opk so far, though lines are getting stronger!

MGee123 · 08/01/2020 20:37

Fingers crossed for you @newmum2020 🤞

I'm CD 11 and supposedly in my fertile window but not a hint of ovulation signs or positive OPKs 🙄

Still going strong on dry January though! Anyone else still going?!

newmum2020 · 08/01/2020 20:09

@bluemoon2468 just started mine!!! Eeeekkkk. Enjoying no alcohol to be honest, i am feeling much healthier and have lost a couple of pounds 😁

bluemoon2468 · 08/01/2020 19:45

We're a quarter of the way through ladies! 🥳 Anyone in their TWW or coming to the end of it? 🤞🏻

Ah good luck to you both! I'm currently on CD7 so still a bit early for me, but have DTD once already just to cover my bases 😆

I'm bad... No will power...I'm having a glass of red wine, and in my 2ww eeeeek!

newmum2020 · 04/01/2020 17:49

@bluemoon2468 well done the first is hardest!! I had my final day out drinking yesterday. It was a full on 12 hour session and I am yet again so hungover that quite honestly I now can't wait to get stuck in to dry January!! The only thing we have on this month is a trip to our brother and sis in laws next sat for dinner. I won't be making any other plans! I'm actually so ill today I'm not sure I can face DTD and this is day 3 fertile window 😬

Newbie0818 · 04/01/2020 16:45

@bluemoon2468 yay well done! So awkward when everyone else is drinking. I’ve got a similar challenge next weekend, and I hate going “out out” sober 😩

bluemoon2468 · 04/01/2020 11:30

Had my first dry January challenge yesterday! Went out for my friend's birthday and everyone was drinking - sat there with my diet coke like 🙄 Wasn't too bad though, and the dry January excuse definitely helped with everyone not thinking I was pregnant!

Totally agree - I don't think there is ever a 'good' time. We bought a house 2 years ago and there still hasn't been a good time since then!! We decided we'd just take the plunge 🤷‍♀️

I've been going running a lot this week as I've been off work - finding it helpful to keep me occupied. I've also been reading a good book. I do find this TTC business takes over my thoughts. Not necessarily in an anxious/stressed way, but just in an excessive way!

Newbie0818 · 03/01/2020 15:19

Exactly @bluemoon2468 never a perfect time. I guess it just happens when it does, but it would help a lot if people weren’t “waiting” for us to announce it like you said haha. I was in my tww over Xmas so didn’t want to drink just in case and I definitely got a few raised eyebrows! And I get what you’re saying @MGee123 I really feel envious of any of my friends who announce their happy news. It’ll be our turn soon though, like you said.

bluemoon2468 · 03/01/2020 13:07

@Newbie0818 tell me about it. Women in my family tend to get pregnant really quickly and have lots of children, so much so that there's a joke that the women in out family get pregnant so easily they don't even seem to need a man to be involved 😆 Almost everyone has got pregnant either whilst using contraception or on the first month of trying. It puts a lot of pressure on 🙈

We were going to wait until we bought a house as well, but tbh there's never a perfect time to have a baby! I always try to remind myself that I'll never look back in 10 years time and wish my child hadn't been born, but if I put off trying then I might regret not starting earlier!

@MGee123 I know what you mean, we got married late 2019 and feel as though everyone is expecting us to announce a pregnancy any day. I had a virus in December and got a lot of raised eyebrows when I said I wasn't feeling well and wasn't drinking. Had to pull out the accompanying rash to prove I really was just unwell!

MGee123 · 03/01/2020 12:52

We haven't told anyone we're trying but we got married mid 2019 and it does feel a bit like everyone is on the look out! One of my best friend is pregnant at the moment and I was going to talk about TTC with them, but the timing doesn't feel quite right so I haven't said anything yet. I'm really excited for her but am (in all honesty) a bit jealous. Fingers crossed it will be our turn soon!

I've made myself designated driver for all social events this month so that should help. Only problem is my OH doesn't really drink 🤦‍♀️😂 Hopefully between us we'll cover it alright!

newmum2020 · 03/01/2020 10:38

@bluemoon2468 @Newbie0818 thank you 😊 fingers crossed for us all 🥰dry January starts after today for me girls. I'm hoping this is my last drink for a long time actually 😆😁
