This is the thread for those of us in the TTC after loss penguin huddle who want to try to eat a more healthy diet, exercise more, lose weight or just feel better physically this year
🐧🐧🐧
@MrsMGE @Avocuddles @MissSparkles81 @SunshineCrocodile @Mumlili8 @VenusStarr @SunStruck

If I’ve missed anyone please tag them

How about we start by saying what our goals are whether that he the number on the scale, doing more exercise or just feeling better about ourselves?

I’m BunnytheBlueWhale (NC recently - see TTC thread). I’m 35 and probably weigh about a stone more than I’d like since I had my stillborn daughter in February. I don’t need to lose weight massively but having post-baby weight and no baby is a bit rubbish!

I’d like to lose a bit of a weight all over and also target my belly with brushing, moisturising and maybe microneedling at home...

I eat a lot of sugary snacks so want to massively reduce those and also try to take a healthy lunch to work to stop me spending so much money on food!

@MrsMGE Bloglites is a Youtube channel with a woman called Cassie (I think?) and it is pilates based. It’s been going for ages and she does videos on different things and she also does the 30-day calendars and stuff. She’s quite good and I don’t think I’d find it boring.

This is the website:

www.blogilates.com/

but I just watched her videos on YouTube (probably a few years ago now)

I’d wanted to do yoga for the mindfulness / relaxation aspect but I found it so boring that I wasn’t relaxed at all and was wishing the sessions away so pilates might be better.

I have two rabbits, a black french lop, and a brown and white rex (he has fur like a soft reddy bear). They lived in the house at one stage but they are in the garage now which is warm enough for them while not making mess in the house! They are about 3 and a half years old bunny 🐰🐰💕

@tortiecat Thank you. There seems to be a few of us near one another. The rain is not great for cleaning out the bunnies or for running later but it looks like it might stop around 4 so I might be able to get in a short run before it gets dark.

Thank you @tortiecat 😊 Sadly no sticky eyes, but you've made me laugh! And my back didn't hurt, success! 😂

It's miserable down South as well, rainy and cold, so I feel better about staying in bed all day 🙌 My dog is cuddled up in bed next to me and the cats are munching away now, but they'll probably come for cuddles soon. Loving this duvet day xxx

tortiecat · 26/01/2020 11:02

@MrsMGE ouch!!!! you poor thing! This has happened to me once before, last summer, when I tried to do an intense fitness yoga workout from cold (and being several pounds heavier, and having done nothing for months previously) - I am cringing at the memory! How lovely that your DH was so good to you - hope it improves throughout the course of today, stay in and entertain yourself with the cats (and vegete-pals, if you have any sticky eyes lying around..?)

@BunnytheBlueWhale following the Rudding Park convo, I know we live fairly close to each other - the rain is coming down in sheets! I need to find my umbrella! My heart aches for you - it's unbelievably sad and beyond unfair that your beloved DD isn't here with you for her birthday, I wish that things had been different for you. Just do what you need to do to get through the next month xx

MrsMGE · 26/01/2020 10:50

@BunnytheBlueWhale Thanks lovely. I woke up today with an achy back. I had no issues with it whatsoever beforehand. I definitely slept awkwardly and tbh had I done some stretching before exercising today maybe it wouldn't have been that bad, but I didn't. Silly me. Lesson learnt, I'm not a fit 18 yo anymore!

I'm glad you slept well, I remember you said before you had some trouble sleeping. Do you actually have rabbits?? How cute!

What's blogilates? Is it like pilates? I was going to suggest pilates rather than yoga, I'd find yoga at home really boring. Short exercises in the morning are definitely the way to go! Xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 26/01/2020 10:37

@MrsMGE Oh no, that sounds awful but sounds like you were well looked after by DH! Do you think you’ve overdone it a bit or not warmed up or something? You’ve been doing a lot of exercise! Maybe take it easy this week xx

@tortiecat I have an easy day too. DH is going to be out and about so I’ll be home alone for a few hours. I’d go for a run but it’s raining a lot at the moment so we’ll see and he’ll have the car so I can’t go to the gym. I need to clean the rabbits out though and that is a workout! It’s like mucking our horses!! 😂

I am tempted to try the daily yoga again but I really just found it boring! Unless there’s another channel on YouTube that I’d prefer. I like the idea of trying some exercise evey day first thing in the morning but not a run as I’’ll shower after but not wash my hair before work. I used to like Blogilates so might try that instead or maybe mix it up and maybe try to do at least 20 of something everyday like yoga, blogilates, abs...

I think with the anniversary it’s a bit of a source of anxiety and maybe trying to stick to normality, but without putting too much h pressure on myself, is the best thing... It’s just incredibly sad. I always planned to have a big family 1st birthday party for her (well always wanted that for my child when I had them) and I can’t believe that year has come around so quickly and she’s not even here!

I’m ok today though. Bit tired although my tomtom watch says I had 8:42 hr sleep!

@tortiecat I did that Zumba yesterday and it was hard! Top tip, it's really good because one of the trainers shows a lighter version of the moves so you can follow her instead if it gets too much. I did that for part of the workout, I couldn't follow all of the moves otherwise. It's a 20 min session and she sats she does 60 min sessions, I can't even imagine how much you burn in 60 mins, and how you can keep going tbh! 20 is enough and it made me burn 250+ calories yesterday, it was brilliant.

So I went to the gym today and had to stop as I had a back muscle spasm. I've never had anything like this before, extremely painful and I nearly fainted. Luckily DH was with me and brought me home. I couldn't move, honestly never felt the pain like this before. DH gave me a massage and showered me (bless him) and I'm now in bed on ibuprofen with a pack of ice. I'll be watching tv all day haha. I have no idea what's happened, it wasn't a particular move that's done it, I think I slept awkwardly and it's the combination of that and the weights exercises I did today. Safe to say I should have stuck to my usual routine haha 😂 Oh, well. I hope I'll be able to walk around fine tomorrow xxx

@Shefliesonherownwings what a difficult meeting for you and DH to have gone through - you are living a parent's worst nightmare and to have heard that they could have done more for you and for Isla must have been indescribably awful, I am not surprised that you are angry! It is really good that you voiced your thoughts - I am keeping everything crossed for you that the upcoming investigations go well (as well as these things can, I'm so sorry) and that you and DH are supported. I hope that restorative yoga is helpful this afternoon - don't feel bad about ducking out if you need to x

@MissSparkles81 - don't be hard on yourself, you've had a very tough week. I hope you enjoy swimming today x

@BunnytheBlueWhale I am not sure daily yoga is for me either! You are doing really well with everything else, from the sounds of it - particularly the running. I know you mentioned that next month will be tough for you, as it's DD's birthday - I guess do what you can, take it day by day and don't be hard on yourself if you don't feel like working out / do feel like eating chocolate etc some days, you have gone through so much as a bereaved mum and are doing the very best you can in this awful situation xx

@MrsMGE Happy Sunday! 6lb?? Woohoo! You have made me and Heather very proud, thank you kindly kind regards Grin I'm glad your eczema has cleared up - I am going to give your Zumba workout a go this afternoon.

Excepting Zumba I don't really have any plans today except for a stroll to the shops - DH and I are having a roast dinner later on which I am quite excited about, it's been ages since we made one at home Smile

@BunnytheBlueWhale You'll have to book your classes in advance anyway, so there's your planning bit done. Add running in between whenever you feel like going. Like you said earlier it gives you freedom.

@MissSparkles81 That's a tough one if someone cannot see that the best option for the sake of everyone would be to reach an agreement sooner than later. Hopefully your DPs solicitors will be sensible. It tends to be easier to drum out a sensible settlement in a difficult matter when it's dealt with by professional advisers. Keep the faith both.

Enjoy your swimming session today 😊

Happy Sunday, girls 😊 xxx

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 17:06

@MrsMGE I know but I’m very much a planner and like to get things in the diary or be quite prescriptive about running / gym / yoga X times a week and I’ve been trying to do that this month and we’re nearly on Feb so ... I might still do it in Feb so I have something to focus on but maybe not too much pressure eg 1 run, 1 walk, 1 yoga and then anything else is a bonus 🤷🏻‍♀️ I feel better when I eat well and exercise but if I don’t feel like a run then I don’t feel like it...

MissSparkles81 · 25/01/2020 16:54

Thank you @mrsmge ... his ex is so far removed from sensible that we can't even speak to her. Its all going through lawyers etc and we have submitted court papers etc.

I did stand on the scales this morning ... dont ask me why but it said I was back up 3lbs! I know thats physically impossible but still sucks.

We are having a chinese tonight then taking the wee man swimming tomorrow so that should burn off a few calories 🤪

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 16:35

@BunnytheBlueWhale Excellent news! Well done you. 😊 Why don't you go easy on yourself and just take it day by day? You don't have to decide now about next month. One day you may feel like running and that's awesome. Another day you may feel like staying in bed in your joggers as it's a tough day. There's nothing wrong with that. We're not on a bootcamp, we're doing what's needed to feel better ❤️

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 16:27

Summary: loving my TomTom watch and excited to be running again!

I have found my TomTom watch! Well DH found it for me. It’s nearly new as I had a problem with it (maybe the strap broke? 🤔) and I took it back to John Lewis, who replaced it with a new one, and then I didn’t run much after that as I’d injured myself doing the half marathon 😬

So I just charged it and connected it to the app and I’m excited to use it!

I’m also really enjoying running again. I’ve only done a couple of short runs but I love it and want to do more. I’m going to aim for a half marathon this summer but won’t sign up in case I can’t do it (I could get injured or pregnant - hopefully the latter!) but it’ll still be something to aim for if I put it in the diary. My hamstring injury does play up occasionally so I’ll see how I get on with distances...

Also the thing with running is I can just go out for half an hour or whatever I can manage whereas going to them gym just takes more time as it’s nowhere near home so I have to add on about an hour for travel...

Not sure about the daily yoga. I gave up quickly...

February is going to be a tough month with my DD’s first birthday and anniversary. I can’t decide whether to throw myself into the yoga and exercise or just go easy on myself. I feel fine but I am getting upset easily.

Sorry for the ramble.

@Shefliesonherownwings I hope you’re doing as ok as can be. Those meetings are tough and it must be especially tough if you feel you and your DD could have been better looked after. I think getting a burger and seeing a film is a lovely idea xx

Morning all, Saturday is weigh in day and I've lost a pound. I'm happy with that as I didnt do much exercise and had a few bad moments this week. Saw my PT yesterday and we repeated a few things to see if I could beat my previous targets and I did so I am definitely getting fitter.

@tortiecat thank you for asking, that's very sweet of you. In all honesty it was rough. They moved it out of the maternity unit but only to the main hospital building so we still had to go to the same place which was so hard.

The consultant basically acknowledged some failings both towards the end of my pregnancy and when we were in hospital, in labour. We obv don't know if DD could have been saved but there were certainly missed opportunities to give her the best chance which was very hard to hear. I thought DH would be the angry vocal one but I ended up voicing my anger more, especially when he talked about future pregnancies and that they were grateful we'd decided to be cared for by them in the future. I told him I'd lost all faith in the hospital and didn't know if I wanted to go back there, that it was hard enough coming into the town and hospital, let alone going into the matenity unit. Anyway it was good to get some answers but we are pretty angry now, we may take it further and get some legal advice. We will wait for the hospital and HSIB investigations and see if they recommend any changes. We just don't want this to happen to anyone else.

DH and I are going to try to do some nice things today. We may go to the cinema later. After all the burger and pizza talk I might treat him to a Byron Burger or five guys, he loves that place.

I have my restorative yoga tomorrow afternoon. I'm a bit nervous after crying in a 'normal'yoga class at the gym in the week, I suspect this will be much more emotive but I'm going with one of my closest friends who knows the teacher and has given her the heads up about DD. It's a small class and I'll set up at the back in case I need to dive out. It's not normally my sort of thing but if it helps relax me I'll give it a go. X

BunnytheBlueWhale · 25/01/2020 09:05

@tortiecat Well to be honest.. I haven’t dont the yoga since Monday 🙈 on Monday I found it so dull and hard going and then on Tuesday I had an early seminar so didn’t do it and haven’t done it since... I might start again but not sure it’s for me

@MrsMGE Well I was in M&S buying snacks and saw the bars and thought I’d try them since the balls are so nice. I’m hoping I’m not disappointed! Earphones are avoid idea! I have the beats Bluetooth ones, which are invisible in my dark hair!

@MissSparkles81 Hugs ❤️ Don't feel you need to be a little miss perfect and cope with everything. In reality, is there anything you can do to make your workload a bit easier to deal with? Either do a phased return, or let go of some other things you do outside work just to have some breathing space for a bit? Sleep more? Make sure you take a break and walk outdoors every day? I find little things help when everything seems to be overwhelming all of a sudden, as long as you stick to them every day. A pause to take stock and look after yourself is what will see you through and let you get back on top of things. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate all at once and no wonder you feel this way. I'm sorry to hear about your DP's situation, this must be very stressful. Do you think they might reach a sensible agreement at some point?

I wouldn't even weigh myself today if I were you. Just think today is a new day and do your best, whatever that is at the moment. Lots of small victories build a big one xxx

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 08:17

@SheFliesOnHerOwnWings How was the meeting yesterday? Have been thinking of you xx

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 08:15

@BunnytheBlueWhale I see you're a fan of DE now 😊 Saw your post on the other thread... I put my headphones in when someone around me is having an annoying conversation and pretend I'm doing some serious drafting (at times I am, actually). Works every time!

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 08:10

@Avocuddles Angela Duckworth, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perserverance (timely). A very interesting book from a professional and personal perspective. I went to a talk with Duckworth few years ago at a literary festival and she was mind blowing. I recommend.

MissSparkles81 · 25/01/2020 08:09

Morning all ... so yesterday was a disaster day eating wise. I had a breakdown in work as really struggling with everything and just feeling so overwhelmed with getting back on top of my caseload. I had a half day anyway so came home and ate my way through a share bag of crisps and then mini eggs and then we had some crap news from the bfs solicitor about access arrangements for this weekend. We ended up going out for dinner too.

Actually scared to stand on the scales as its just generally been a rotten week food wise.

MrsMGE · 25/01/2020 07:58

@tortiecat I had a very odd problem yesterday, my eczema has randomly flared up at the back of my knee and it was so sore I couldn't do any exercise (gutted). Luckily I have a great ointment from my GP back from the time when I was pg and had an issue with eczema at the beginning. It seems to have disappeared now, so I'm trying this one this afternoon:

I had pancakes with Nutella last night as a treat meal! Think AF might be approaching, hence the chocolate craving. They were nice, but tbh I didn't find Nutella as nice as I used to before, a bit sickly and the meal made me feel heavy last night. Too many carbs. Anyway... I spoke too soon, I've lost another 0.5lb bringing my total loss this year to... 6lbs!!! 🎉🙌🥳 I am grinning like the Cheshire Cat here, did not expect this result this morning! Only weighed to see the post-pancakes damage and boom!

@tortiecat I love Miranda too, I catch myself dropping the quotes from the show into my conversations or using her tone of voice. I love it when people have never watched it and don't realise 😂 DH and I speak fluent, what I call, Miranda, though 😂 I shall welcome you every day on here with "What have you done today to make you feel proud?" 😀

Have a lovely weekend ladies!!! Be pleased to know that you've made me book a burger place for Valentines Day! Needed an excuse to eat a good burger and nothing screams love more than a piece of beef! DH agrees 😂 xxx

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 07:15

sorry @BunnytheBlueWhale posted too soon... I get bored and wander off usually, but is there a video you would recommend? x

tortiecat · 25/01/2020 07:15

Morning all! I couldn't sleep this morning so bounced out of bed and straight onto Mumsnet. Why don't I have this much-needed energy on weekdays?!

@MrsMGE congratulations on the weight loss and leaving behind the plateau! You have been doing loads of steps and exercise recently so good on you. I weighed myself just now - I have also lost a pound, maybe a direct result of wearing my breakfast instead of eating it?! Grin I might have a look on YouTube for a Zumba video tomorrow.

@BunnytheBlueWhale mmmm I love Byron burgers! how are you finding your yoga videos? I struggle with not doing yoga in a class, as I get bored and wander off.

@Avocuddles I had a chocolate milkshake - chocolate sauce blended with vanilla ice cream, topped with cream with a little brownie on top! So nice, and I think I savoured it a bit more as I've been eating a lot more mindfully recently (thanks to you all on here).
I think we are all at least a foot shorter than Miranda, however tall we are! I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but I find her hilarious and very endearing. That sounds an excellent week, food-wise... you have to have a few days off and enjoy yourself sometimes, especially in the early days of pregnancy, so I hope you enjoyed it! Who can resist a free Chinese?!
