Hello girls can I gatecrash??

Like suss i haven't read what stages you are at but I agree with suss coggy - the luteal phase is lengthened during the 2ww by the use of progesterone pessaries (YUK). They are used to postpone AF coming & therefore lengthen the luteal phase... have you used them before with IUI?

However this is for any IVF - I really don't think donor IVF will make any difference to your luteal phase! It will help if your eggs are poor quality but it really won't work where your own eggs fail because of luteal phase... it would make no difference (in my opinion). sorry tempi. if your AF is going to come and prevent implantation of the embryo it won't make any difference as to where that embryo originates.

Hope this makes sense and you don't mind me posting

coggy!!!!!!!! suss is right.......donor IVF WILL WILL WILL WILL fix short luteal phase!!!!!! as they give you all the hormones instead of you producing them!!!!!!

OMG you need to look at donor IVF!!!!!!!!!!!

My donor is now ready 6 good size folicles and 7 smaller ones is this normal???????

Embryo tranfer for me is Saturday.
[very very very impatient emoticon] !!!!

OP posts:
suss · 17/09/2007 21:35

coggy if you decide to go ahead with ivf they will give enough hormones to give a horse a longer luteal phase! I don't know how old you are - just picked up on this thread but don't give up ivf does work. I had slightly raised fsh levels at 28 and it did take me a wacking 7 years to have my ds. But we do have a darling darling boy. I know someone else who succeeded after their 19th attempt and I know 2 people who were pregnant after their first attempt. persistence and acupuncture (in my case) seem to be the most important things. Good luck with the ivf

coggy · 17/09/2007 21:15

I haven't really considered donor IVF. It was never given as an option to me.
I think my problem is my very short luteal phase (only 8 days) so I guess donor IVF wouldn't solve that.
Maybe it will be an alternative...I don't know...I guess they'll discuss all this at my IVF planning meeting??!

My follicles were never grown on time!
I was constantly being asked to come back in a couple of days!
I appear to have slow growers even when drugged!!!

Fingers all crossed for Thursday then....another day for you to wait!

We need an impatient emoticon don't we?!

Hi coggy sorry about how you feel! did I ask you before ... have you considered donor IVF???????????????

My dh and I was also going down the adoption route.......but we decided before that we wanted one of our own. May still do adoption even if we are successful at the IVF, but we really wanted one of our own!

Me and my donor had duel appointments yesterday. My uterine lining is nice and ready for the embryos, but 2 of her follicles have not grown enough, so they want her to inject another 3 extra days... they feel egg harvest will now be this Thursday and transfer will be Saturday......... I am excited, but there are still so many vital stages (how many eggs will they get, how many will fertilise and how many top grade embryos will be produced) So can't really allow ourselves to be that excited about it all.

And to top the lot..... WILL IT WORK WILL WE GET PREGNANT! WHAT A BLOODY MINE FIELD!!!!

Anyway still trying to stay calm and positive.

Hope you feel a little better.

(hope you don't mind me hijacking the thread for a mo Tempi)
Hi Coggy
I think all us apparently perma-residents of the MN conception topic go through tough patches of wondering if not family then what next. (I know I do)

I recently had a very cathartic experience of spending a couple of days with other childless women. It was just a coincidence we got together and made a huge change from being the only barren one in a sea of ooops I'm pg again mates.
The reasons for the no kids were diverse and one of the older women was a great inspiration. She & her dh eventually came to terms with not having their own kids and decided to throw open their house to the kids of friends and family. Before long their lives were filled with kids - and at times she has been closer to the kids than the parents... and provided a much needed safe bolthole(esp those with tough teenage years).
At the moment I crave to breastfeed my own children - to nurture them every step of the way - but her glow and contentment as she talked about her fulfillment gave me some hope for the future.

FF is pretty freaky at first - some threads are worse than others - however the info and support is string - and I have found some threads to be calmer!
I have also found you can ask very specific question about your own scenario and the moderators will make sure they put it in the right place to get responses.

Had a depressed afternoon....thinking about the possibility of needing to take the next step and all that involves...long drawn out process of adoption if it comes to that......

...should really just focus on now but it's my birthday in a week or so and I am feeling old and past it!!

I always thought my purpose in life would be looking after a family....now a bit worried that I may be purpose-less....if I look for an alternative I may find nothing!!!!

I'm okay tonight though....watched Casulty which always cheers me up!!!!!

You re going to start pacing before long I reckon Tempi!!!
I know I would be!!!!

Hello and waves to Chocolatedays.
I had a look around FF...I think it'll take a while to get my head round all of that movement on their site!!
A lot of leaping around and flashing eh??!!!
LOL!!!!

I read some really interesting posts though...thanks for that.

cedar and chocolatedays!!!!!!! so great to hear from you! and it is so nice to know that you guys are lurking in the background, keeping an eye on us!

Yes!!! I am already having acupuncture and will have a pre and post transfer treatment, just waiting for a date so I can tell my therapist!

Its now been 4 days of me taking oestrogen tabs and my donor injecting herself...... its all getting nearer. Her scan is on wed am to check stimulation of ovaries and mine is sunday morning to check my uterine lining.

Its so nice to know that you are both around as well as coggy.

Just quickly poping to say hello. Sorry coggy about af and good luck for January. Tempi will be thinking of of you and keep every thing crossed for you. The holiday did us all the world of good, We are going to relax about it all not worry about dates etc and just see what happens as dh sperm count etc has gone through the roof!! motility went from 32% before ivf to over 80% I think so you never know. I am going gives mumnet a rest for the moment but will pop in every week or so to see how you all are. Good Luck every one.

fertilityfriends dot co dot uk

There are areas for specific problems as well as most clinics - and general peer help areas.

It has been (and still is) very helpful for me... though I need MN for sanity (the fluffy overuse of bouncing silliness can get a bit much on some threads!!)
The moderators are more involved too... but, as I say, it has been a great comfort and resourse at times.

PMSL at your dildocam experiences...spent several minutes wondering what on earth you meant til I read it out loud!!!!

Yes.....IUI means LOTS of those as well as lots of self-injecting so I won't mind that bit.....I think it's just the finality that concerns me and how I will handle it if that's it.

I will check out FF also and let you know what I am doing nearer the time when I have my panning meeting sometime in the next few months.
Thank you CD.

Also lurking!!!

Hi Tempi - thinking of you - hope all is well with both you and your very special friend & her family. Will keep you in mind. Have you considered acupunture to help boost womb lining and aid implantation? There is pretty good eveidenc it helps.
I did not take the tww off - but then I also knew by then success was unlikley due to a problem with my embryos at ET (they had not continued to divide) - I think you can only do what you feel most comfortable with - and also depends how physical and stressful your work is. Good luck!!

Coggy - honestly - IVF is physically not that bad - sure you have to inject (& I'm not squimish) and you have a fair number of dildocam experiences (but suspect that was true of IUI too).
Emotionally it was tough post BFN as I had seen it as a "if all else fails" scenario - sadly I did not have beginners luck - I have a few weeks of dark thoughts.... punctuated by everyone and her dog seemingly announcing their pregnancies.

Feel free to ask ANY questions. - When you know what protocol you are on then you'll get a better idea of what to expect. Have you visited the Fertility friends chat site - it is riddled with OTT icons but also full of hands on experience where no question is too silly, odd or stupid.

Thanks coggy.

Will keep posting when I have news....I think those 2 weeks off work will be a killer, but it must be done! I will try and keep my mind off things! (oh yea......right!)

OP posts:

I agree....think I shall be booking plenty of rest off too when my time comes.

I hope it all goes really smoothly and, of course, successfully for you Tempi.....keep updating.

tempi · 08/09/2007 18:06

coggy great to hear from you.

I had slightly raised FHS also and I am 43yrs....so because this is our last chance at having our baby..... we decided to go for donor eggs. We just couldn't run the high risk of it not working with my own.

My donor is a friend. She is 29yrs with 2 gorgeous little boys 2yr and 1yr.

Basically its the donor that goes through the IVF..... The tablets that I am taking is Oestrogen to get the lining of my uterus ready for the embryo transfer.

The time off work thing is very debatable! but because this is our very last chance, we wanted to do EVERYTHING to make it work!!!!!!

OP posts:
coggy · 08/09/2007 16:10

Thanks Tempi.....I am still very ignorant about what happens with IVF.
I guess I will have a planning meeting fairly soon about it all?

Is it regular pratice to have the two weeks off work afterwards. I want to do EVERYTHING I can to make it work as I think this will be my one and only go at it.

I bet you feel scared and excited all at the same time.
Do you know your donor (told you I was totally ignorant about these things!)

What tablets are you taking?
I suppose I will be different as they will be trying to stimulate my own eggs....if that works...I know I had slightly raised FSH levels last year so we will see.

I am constantly checking on here for news!
Sometimes I just lurk but I do always check......good to hear from you too....it was feeling a bit lonely!!!!!
