How long did it take you to conceive with your second?

Me and my OH are going to start trying for our second child in the new year. It took me 16 months to fall pregnant with my first (aged 25). I know everyone is different but I am just intrigued to know how long it took you to conceive your first and then how long it took to conceive your second? I am expecting it to take roughly the same amount of time it did to conceive my first second time around but would obviously like the wait to not be as long.

It's defo random, with my first she was a surprise, still not really sure how she got there Grin but this time round we're on cycle 6 now, had some weird probably fake positive/evap lines cycle 4, a loss at 6.5 weeks on cycle 5 so trying to stay positive this cycle . It's mad isn't it how your bodies can work so differently. Xx

Hi, I fell pregnant with my DS the first month I tried. Started to ttc for a 2nd naively thinking it would be a breeze again...2 years of ttc and one miscarriage later DD was born 14 days ago.
Just shows how unpredictable this ttc lark is. It amazes me every day that the world is still populated!
All the very best, listen to your body and try not to compare too much otherwise it will send you crazy!

On a positive note (to balance up) a good friend of mine tried for years including several failed rounds of ivf before she conceived. 6 months after the birth of her daughter, she fell pregnant naturally with her second daughter. Both a shock and a miracle 😊

First one took two years, second one was first cycle trying, fingers crossed for you OP.

@reasonsforwaiting my sister has just had her third miscarriage so your story gives me hope for her. Such a heartbreaking time I really hope she is as lucky as you have been one day x

First go for number two, I think four cycles on one. I wasn't actually prepared to be pregnant right away which was silly of me.

Dh had done an at home sperm test which came back with a low reading so we had done everything to help first time and hadn't gotten around to any intervention yet second time. Test was wrong or we were very lucky.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/12/2019 21:07

It took 18 months of concerted effort to conceive our first.

One bout of unprotected sex to conceive our second. Confused

MeMeMeYou · 05/12/2019 21:05

First try, luckily for me. Came off the pill and didn’t even have a period before I got pregnant

Babyg1995 · 05/12/2019 20:25

First was 3 years but I had been on the injection 2 years second was first cycle third was second cycle

Parky04 · 05/12/2019 20:23

Our first took 2 years and our second was conceived first time!

GinUnicorn · 05/12/2019 20:22

Accident first time and pregnant with number 2 (planned) and we got pregnant first month of trying.

Both over 35 so I was worried it would take a while.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 05/12/2019 20:22

First time with both but had to wait until I stopped breastfeeding to conceive No2.

ChristmasFete · 05/12/2019 20:21

Second month of trying with first DC. first month trying for second - ectopic. First month trying after ectopic - chemical pregnancy. Fingers crossed for next month.

IamChipmunk · 05/12/2019 20:21

18m for first, 3m for second and had only dtd 3 times that month too!

reasonsforwaiting · 05/12/2019 20:20

First took 4 years and 3 miscarriages.
Second took about 2 weeks; surprise surpise third was almost instantaneous!

daisypond · 05/12/2019 20:19

Immediately with my first. Second after one month. I was in my 30s.

Snaleandthewhail · 05/12/2019 20:17

First was a year.

Second was just over two years.

Third was a one off accident “I don’t get pregnant that quickly it’ll be fine”

Robs20 · 05/12/2019 20:15

Both dd1 and DTs were surprise pregnancies. Not sure how (well....I am....) but there we go!

Mermaidtissues · 05/12/2019 20:13

A year with my first and 3.5 years with second.

HE88 · 05/12/2019 20:13

@rumandbiscuits I fell pregnant straight away with my 1st, I've been trying 2 years now for my 2nd. Ended up having to get a laparoscopy at the end of October for suspected endometriosis, I had a 10cm chocolate cyst on my right ovary.

Mrspeak · 05/12/2019 20:12

I was the same age for my first and took one month. On the third cycle ttc a second.

DramaAlpaca · 05/12/2019 19:56

Just one shag Blush Grin

Which was a bit of a shock as it'd taken almost a year to conceive DC1. There's only 16 months between them. I was 30.

lauryloo · 05/12/2019 19:49

18 months for baby 1. Babies 2 and 3 results of dtd once in respective cycles Blush

PastaSauceHoarder · 05/12/2019 19:49

We didn't use a condom one time and thats how I became pregnant with our first lovely daughter, now two and a half.

Second pregnancy took four weeks from when we decided to start TTC - sadly had to have a TFMR at 12 weeks though.

Third and current pregnancy occurred only three weeks after the induced miscarriage for the second pregnancy. Now 34+5 weeks with our second daughter. Smile

Lots of luck in the new year, OP! 💛

Juanbablo · 05/12/2019 19:49

2nd cycle (I was 21).
