Cycles after coming off the pill - tell me your story..............

Right, I'm CD31 of first cycle after coming off the pill. When I was on the pill I would have my period on CD29 (well, no period CD28 and then next day back at CD1). I expected some differences after coming off the pill but didn't know quite what to expect as before I had ds, I fell pg straight after coming off the pill (didn't work out though).

I won't go into it in length on this thread (moaned already in the caravan ) but basically, I'm at risk of very early menopause, even though I'm only 31. My mum thought she was pg at 29 due to having no period but the Dr did test and she was starting menopause. I'm worried that because I've not got my period yet, it could mean problems for me but I also know this is normal with some people after the pill.

I know a lot of you have come off the pill and either had no period for few months or had several funny cycles. I'm just trying to get an idea of what goes on with different people post pill.

So, tell me what happened to you so I get a wider picture

pixie04 - yes, I will definitely be PUSHING the Dr. My history is too scary and I WON'T let them make wait til we've been trying for a year+ I think a simple blood test can tell me whether or not I've started the menopause early. Obviously very much hoping that all is ok and sure it will be but I just HAVE to know!! Sorry about your Dr's appointment They can be so crap can't they!! Did they offer a blood test to check? They should do to make sure!

Yes, Mumbles was lovely but boy it was hilly!! I've still not recovered from all that walking!!

looneytune my opinion of doctors (having seen a few these last two months) is that you have to push then to do things.

I felt a little brushed off this morning when I saw the doc. She told me that it takes three months after comming off the pill to expect to concieve and that even though its now nine weeks since my last AF as mine have been irregular its not long enough to do any investigation. She also reminded me that they won't reffer me on for fertility checks until we've been trying for over 18mnths. She was sympathetic and said that if AF doesn't arrive in another two weeks and I'm still getting BFN's then to go back.

Mumbles is a nice place we used to live in the Rhonda Valley (probably spelling it wrong)

Make sure you push your doc to do all the right tests If I had premature menopause in my family I'd be kicking up a big stink.

Good luck x keep us posted.

pixie04 - thanks, hoping to be going to the Dr's on Thursday (just need to call automatic booking system after midnight tonight as that's when her new appointments are released). I've got the day off childminding and hoping to get someone to have ds whilst I go so I can have a proper chat!. Wales was just 2 nights at SIL's as she's recently moved to a play called Mumbles near Swansea. Very nice it was, her place overlooks the bay and it's a beautiful view!

toomuchtimeonline - cheers, I'll see what the Dr's says and see if there's a way of knowing when I'll be past my sell by date!

Looneytune - I've had 3 afs since coming off the pill and they've all been 2 days and really light! I did some research and apparently light periods should be nothing to worry about - and have been temping and doing opks and I seem to be ovulating each month - so hopefully you shoul be fine!

Enjoy wales

pixie04 · 25/08/2007 18:32

Looneytune - I think you need to get your GP to run some tests to rule out early menopause at least then you can put it to the back of your mind. Theres nothing like stress to delay AF and make ttc more diffcult.

Are you going on holiday to Wales? Where abouts are you going? I lived in Wales for a while beautiful place.

Have a great time x

looneytune · 25/08/2007 18:17

Hi Pixie Thanks for that info, it DOES help. I'm glad you're getting a blood test, been long enough hasn't it!

Well, I've just had a bit more so maybe it's just going to be a bit on/off for a bit . Don't worry, if I have a long gap like you between periods, I WILL get it checked out as I have a family history of very early menopause and seeing the Dr about this anyway so would want blood tests if my period didn't show up!! (this is how mum found out at 29 she had started the menopause )

Right, best get off here as we're about to travel 3 hrs to Wales and running a bit late.

Okay don't know whether this will help but heres my story.

Feb - came off pill had AF straight away
April - had AF early in the month (about 6 wks wait since first one) - Had another AF two weeks later
June - again had AF early in the month (about 6 wks since last AF) and again had another AF two weeks later.

That last AF was 25th June, am still waiting for next one. I'm now CD 61 maybe 62...

I feel PG (really sore nips and tired) but all tests BFN's so far, seeing the doc on tuesday for a blood test.

Two of my AF's were really short only two/three days when normally six days. I did get pains when my period was due (even when it didn't come)but I get a lot of pains anyway because I have Endometreosis. Also the pill I was on was a high dose one to try and help with my symptoms. In fact the strange thing is I've not really had any of those pains for the last three weeks which is different.

Hope it helps. If in doubt see your GP but don't let them fob you off if its stressing you out then they need to look into it.

QUESTION

Had 2 days of light bleeding now period gone by the looks off it. I pressume this is normal when just come off the pill? My period (when on the pill) would have started on a Sunday afternoon/evening and finished on the Thurs/Fri.

Thanks Lulu. Yes, it came but it's very light and I reckon going to make an early exit (hoping ).

looneytune · 23/08/2007 09:24

Thanks, it finally turned up this morning so we'll see how long it lasts etc. At least it wasn't a 50+ cycle!!

OP posts:
LaDiDaDi · 22/08/2007 19:29

Mine returned bang on as expected for first cycle after stopping then got pregnant next cycle.

My friend had really, really irregular and infrequent periods for over a year then got pregnant without ever getting a normalcycle back.

poppy34 · 22/08/2007 19:20

looney -my periods were all over the place when I came off..seemed to get longer every month (from 28 up to 36/7 days) and alternated being very very light to extremely painful adn heavy. And yes remember getting back ache period signs but no period which was very odd for first couple of months.

looneytune · 22/08/2007 14:49

Thanks for that. No sign of period yet and the feeling of it coming isn't as strong as it was. Checked cervix AGAIN and it's seems to be not so low as it was yesterday, whatever that means?! Now CD32, would have come on Sunday if I was on the pill. Oh well, just need to wait it out!!

toomuchtimeonline · 22/08/2007 13:41

Hi Loonytune - I'm the same as LittleB - my cycles are really short after coming off the pill about 26-27 days. This is my third month off now.

I've read other people's story's on here and a few girls had really long cyles (sometimes up to 50 days) after coming off however, I remember a couple getting BFPs in those long cycles so even with a long cycle everything may be ok..

Have you had your AF yet?

looneytune · 21/08/2007 12:44

LittleB - thanks for that, missed it before. I'm not thinking I'm pg anymore, deffo feels like AF is coming, just trying to get a wide idea of what happens to people post pill. Sounds like everything goes! Just more concerned about the other problem that runs in my family although I should stop thinking about that as it's probably not helping my period to come is it!!!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 21/08/2007 12:44

that sounds like a plan

i am sur it will happen for you soon, fingers crossed!

looneytune · 21/08/2007 12:42

Good, don't want to waste money on more. Not going to bother testing again though as these are early testing (10 miu or something), just going to wait for my period and then if if's not here by the time I go to the Dr's next week about the menopause thing, I can let them know.
