TTC #1 and hot yoga?

danielasummer · 11/11/2019 11:50

Hi everyone, my DH and I are planning on TTC next month after a missed miscarriage in early October. We both tried hot yoga last night for the first time and absolutely loved it! But today I have been researching like a crazy person whether hot yoga is safe when TTC or if it impedes the process..

FYI we are both taking Zita West vitamin/vitafem, eating well, I don't drink and DH has cut down a lot, we don't smoke, I'm 27 and he's 28, he exercises a lot and both have a good BMI. I also track BBT and cervical music (although both are out of whack due to miscarriage). Will hot yoga ruin our chances of conception? Will be grateful to hear of your experiences, and if you have asked a doctor for their opinion on this x

@danielasummer I'm 4dpo according to app although I'm pretty sure I'm 5 as I had really distinct O cramps on Friday but I'm going to go by what the app says! Had the weirdest pain in my nipples last night before I went to bed, they felt like they were literally on fire, was really painful. Also had loads of bloating and felt lightheaded today but I know that all of these are common symptoms for increase in progesterone which would happen if I was pregnant or not so not reading into them.

I know what you mean about TTC consuming everything you do and think about, it's so hard to switch off! How was you day?

danielasummer · 13/11/2019 18:57

@Mystie Agreed. It's physically, mentally, emotionally exhausting and I think about it all of the time! My miscarriage, fertility in general, trying again... it seems to seep into every thought and most conversations I have. Thank you for recommending Premom, will use that when I get AF after a negative pregnancy test (fingers crossed that will be soon). How far are you in the TWW? x

@danielasummer I know the whole thing is such a minefield! I've started charting bbt and opks this month, using easy @ home cheapie opks and the Premom app which reads the result, much easier than trying to work out a positive yourself. Also bought an Ava bracelet, realising I probably didn't need to as I seem to be getting pretty clear results from opks and temping!

danielasummer · 12/11/2019 16:53

@Mystie thank you, it'll all be over soon I'm sure.

I don't actually drink but I will definitely over-indulge on smoked salmon and stuffing! Fingers crossed we will both be pregnant/holding a baby in our Christmas photos next year. Will be thinking of you.

Are you charting everything? I do BBT (used to for birth control but now pregnancy) and sometimes cervical mucus but I'm not too good at that one. Did you use OPKs too? TTC really blows my mind to be honest.. there's so much to think about - it's not easy, is it?! x

@VickyBHF Hi, thank you so much for posting. I'm glad you enjoyed hot yoga throughout - I've spoken to the yoga teacher and she said in her studio they don't allow pregnant women as it's a super hot class. I think I'll sit it out until post-baby (fingers crossed!) but it's good to know that you were able to do it throughout pregnancy. x

@danielasummer I'm so sorry that you have to wait that long, hopefully Christmas will be a good distraction that you can really enjoy. Very good chance next Christmas you will be pregnant or even have a newborn! I know it's hard to even imagine that when you've just been through a loss I really do but if there was ever a good time of year to not be TTC it's Christmas.

I am trying not to get super obsessive about the whole thing although it's really hard when you're charting etc. I definitely think stress plays a big part in falling pregnant and don't want it to become the centre of everything (easier said than done)!

Really good sign that you feel pregnant without even trying, that's such a positive sign!! You just need to really look after yourself for the next few months - it will happen again!!!

I'm in St Albans! Xxx

VickyBHF · 12/11/2019 09:58

Just to say I did hot yoga whilst pregnant from about month 3 to month 7 when it just got too hot / Uncomfortable. I had been going for a while prior though and the teacher gave me modifications. I absolutely loved it - kept me sane and was a gorgeous relax at the end. Good luck!

danielasummer · 12/11/2019 09:54

@Mystie bless you, thank you. It was an ordeal to say the least! I've just spoken to the EPU and they told me to do another pregnancy test in a week, and if it's still positive, to go for a scan.. which will be heartbreaking because I have a really negative/traumatic view of ultrasound scan rooms now. But we'll see how it goes.

I'm so sorry you have also suffered this. Whether you found out early or late, a loss is still a loss and grief is grief I've found. When people have tried to make me feel better by saying 'at least you weren't further along' I have to just smile and nod because how can anyone understand the love you have for your little bean growing inside of you unless they are you?!

How was the D&C? I'm really glad you had only 3 days of bleeding. I think you can be so up one day and down another, which is what sounds like happened to you. I take it as a win if I haven't cried by 1pm most days! My fingers are crossed that you start to feel somewhat 'back to normal soon' (whatever that means for you) and my heart goes out to you.

We would like to start trying again ASAP but the midwife at the EPU told me this morning to absolutely not start trying until I've had a period, which would be 4-6 weeks from the negative test.. so for me, around 5-7 weeks away, which seems like to long to wait, especially since I normally ovulate day 26! So we're looking at late January/early February now, which literally breaks my heart. How are you feeling about trying again?

I am sure you will get your baby with your new partner! If you're still having periods then there's no reason not to, and as you say, if he's young he has some good swimmers!!

I know it's easy to look back and reflect on past actions but in February that was the right thing for you. I've realised over time that regrets don't serve us and we do the best we can when difficult situations arise.

Yes this is my first. We got married in August after being together for 9 years and didn't expect to get pregnant honestly (we were going to start trying in January 2020) but I ovulated super late because of the wedding so I fell pregnant 2 weeks after it! I live in Cambridgeshire. What about you? x

@danielasummer oh god I'm so sorry that sounds horrendous, so cruel after you heard a heartbeat. There really is no way you can even start to relax at all until 12 week scan I don't think as anything can happen no matter how many times you have scans. I found out quite early thankfully, had some bleeding and so had an early scan but they couldn't see an embryo, they told me to come back in 2 weeks as they thought I could've been earlier than I thought but after 2 weeks of light bleeding I went back and the sac had collapsed so we were told it wasn't developing I think I was around 7 weeks although nothing had grown since 5 weeks. We were offered a D&C the next day which was a relief not having to wait and thankfully only had 3 days of bleeding. That was 8 October, Took around 10 days to get a negative test. Had this weird energy surge the following week, went back to the gym and felt ok then the week after felt like the world was crashing down around me and was in bed for days! Put on about half a stone as well think I've punishing my body for not doing its job properly. Trying to get back on track now in the hope it might happen this month. Will you start trying again straight away?

This isn't my first, I'm really lucky to have 3 amazing kids, 18, 12 and 11 but this will be first (and only) baby with my new partner. We've only been together 16 months but both really want a baby together and know I haven't got much time. He's 26 so has plenty of time 🤣 hoping his young healthy sperm will do the job!! To add salt to the wound we had a termination in February because we'd only been together 6 months at the time. It was the right thing to do, but if it doesn't happen for us I think I'll always regret not going through with it.

Is this your first? Whereabouts do you live? X

danielasummer · 11/11/2019 20:33

@Mystie Thank you, so I had an early scan at 7+3 but they measured me at 6+1 which was weird, saw the heartbeat which was amazing, so I started to relax.. little did I know that 2 days later the baby's heart would stop beating - I found out 3 weeks later at a random scan I had which wasn't even booked (happened to be at the hospital for bloods), was so awful. I had medical management 2 weeks ago today and was told to do a pregnancy test today which is positive, so I have no idea what to do now!

How are you doing? Did you have surgery or natural or medicine? Is this your first? When did you find out? It was so lovely being on the May thread wasn't it.. I hope everyone else is doing ok, I'm just so devastated.

Thank you for your advice. I'm hoping you're not able to have any drinks at Christmas... let me know how you get on after your TWW x

@danielasummer oh lovely I'm so sorry you've had such an awful time. How many weeks were you when you found out it wasn't viable? Did you have surgery or let it happen naturally? It is the most overwhelmingly emotional rollercoaster, after you get past one hurdle another one appears, I remember waiting ages for my negative and it felt so wrong and upsetting wishing for a negative test result. Really hope you get yours soon so you can start trying again. But make sure you give yourself time to recover and don't rush it if you're not ready. I'm 43 so time isn't on our side, trying not to get too anxious about this month, if it doesn't happen than it will be nice to enjoy a few drinks in the run up to Christmas. Don't think I could handle having an early scan the week before Christmas and potentially go through it all again x

danielasummer · 11/11/2019 17:38

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted yes I think you're definitely right.. no hot yoga for me whilst TTC and (fingers crossed) pregnant! Thank you! x

@Mystie it's the absolute worst. Has been the worst time of my life but hopefully coming to the end of it now (bleeding finished 2 days ago, but still getting positive pregnancy tests.. hope it's all over soon!). Sending loads of positive vibes your way, hopefully we will see each other on a pregnancy thread soon x

@danielasummer it really is the pits! So sorry that you had to go through it as well. Fingers crossed for both of us in the near future! 😘

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 11/11/2019 13:43

Heat exposure like that isn't good whilst ttc in particular the 2WW or early pregnancy hence why doctors recommend to avoid hot tubs

danielasummer · 11/11/2019 13:27

Hi @Mystie I think we were on the same May 2020 thread.. I'm so sorry to hear you have also miscarried - it's awful isn't it?

Fingers crossed for a positive after your TWW! I think I probably won't continue hot yoga which is a shame but I don't want to ruin my chances. Thank you for your reply xx

@danielasummer I love hot yoga and have been going regularly for many years. I fell pregnant in September (and wasn't trying) so continued to go until I got a BFP at 5 weeks. Sadly I had a MMC early October which I know is almost certainly unrelated to the yoga, now we are actively trying again I'm hesitant to go back. My teacher told me that it is personal choice on whether you continue to practice she had one lady who was going right up until her due date. But I think the increased heat is the issue. I wouldn't go in a sauna or steam room if I thought there was a chance I could be pregnant so probably won't go back to hot yoga sadly. With all the other risks I just want to try and eliminate as many as possible that are in my control. Currently in the 2WW and enjoying the gym and good walks with the dogs! Whatever you decide I hope you fall pregnant again and it all works out for you. Namaste 🙏 x
