Start TTC November/December, fresh off the mini pill, anybody else?

I’m due to stop taking the mini pill next week and then hopefully going to start TTC properly once my periods return to normal but in the meantime I’m aware that anything can happen and I for one am hoping that I’ll be one of the lucky ones to get a BFP quickly but I won’t hold my breath!

My OH is somewhat less enthusiastic as me so I think I need to proceed with caution and not mention when I’m ovulating or schedule DTD - I’ve waited years for him/us to be ready I daren’t scare him off now!!!!

Anybody else looking to start TTC soon after the mini pill?

Anybody else got any tips on how to proceed in terms of TTC, ovulation kits etc...

The men need a biology lesson before hand I think! 😂
It does just sound like your body getting back into the swing of things really but that doesn't mean you won't ovulate so keep that in mind!
I guess you could say I was in the TTW but I'm not really counting this as cycle one as I know AF can arrive any day... but I'm hopeful that it'll hold off for a few weeks! 😂
I'm usually such a planner, everything has a spreadsheet but this TTC malarkey isn't spreadsheetable! Lol

Jam234 · 01/11/2019 21:00

@FutureMrsSmith i didnt use OPKs as i decided to give my body time to adjust. I dont really know whats going on this week. I have felt quite sick AF only lasted 2 and a half days. I presume my body is just getting used to hormones etc. Yea we decided to come off the pill early too to let my cycle settle. OH juat isnt getting that we cant get pregnant at any time of the month 😂 so are you in the two week wait now?

FutureMrsSmith · 01/11/2019 20:31

Hi @Jam234
I was taking Desogestrel so never had a break on them and no period / withdrawl each month. I can tell from my OPK that I did hit peak and also from my CM that this matched the OPK and I also had a pain in my left hand side at the same time so there were a few signs of ovulation. I don't be disheartened if month one isn't ours, I wasn't expecting anything and I'd come off the pill 3 months earlier than planned. OH had been asking for almost 9 months for us to try so it felt right for us now.

Jam234 · 31/10/2019 11:47

Its like a whole other world isnt it!! I am the same reading everything. I feel like i should be an expert at this stage 😂.
Yes from what i can remember AF used to last roughly 6 to 7 days with mild cramping. I wouldnt say spotting but it was very light and fresh looking for maybe a day and a half now its kind of brown just when i wipe. Sorry TMI. I have no other symptoms that i know of?? 😂 Hmm im guessing from my CM i ovulated around 15th which would make it 14 days?
Did you have a withdrawal bleed each month while on the pill? I have heard you can ovulate before you get your period back so you might be in luck. Its like a battlefield isn't it 😂

FutureMrsSmith · 31/10/2019 11:19

I am new to TTC too but have read what feels like every post on here! 😂
I think we have all taken for granted how long after stopping the pill our bodies can take to adjust.
You mentioned your periods been lighter than you had remembered but I believe most people have said they become heavier, was it just spotting? Perhaps that could be an implantation bleed which happens at 6 days + after ovulation.
It's all very complicated. I came off the pill 13th October and didn't have a withdrawl bleed but did have PMS symptoms. I got some OPK (ovulation predictor lots) from Amazon to see what my body was doing and then can see I peaked earlier this week which would make sense in terms of timing. But who knows. I used to be so regular but I may have taken that for granted.

Jam234 · 31/10/2019 11:03

Thanks @FutureMrsSmith thanks so much for the advice. Im so clueless with all of this as i was on the pill for years. So never experienced proper cycles. You're right im better off tracking each month. I thought i was in for it this month with AF but she seems to be gone now. Is that normal after the pill?? I think i ovulated two weeks after coming off the pill. That was just over two weeks ago. This is so confusing!!

FutureMrsSmith · 31/10/2019 06:57

Hi @Jam234 I think the best advise would be don't assume or hope anything. Things can change from month to month. Just take each cycle as it comes and track every time you see day one of your AF! I say this because if you assume 28 day cycles and it gets to day 30 you may get your hopes up (rightly or wrongly) If you track them whilst TtC you'll see a pattern emerging! It might be that you are 28 day regular cycles but although this is the average not many people do actually have regular 28 day cycles! Some people have regular 30+ cycles and some have no regular cycles at all. Only a few months or tracking will help, just spot for signs of ovulation and enjoy as much as you can!!😊

Jam234 · 30/10/2019 23:02

Hi everyone.
I hope you dont mind me jumping on. I stopped my birth control and had my withdrawal bleed as normal on 1 - 5th October. I didnt track anything this month as i dont want to start obsessing too soon.! Yesterday i got what i can only assume to be my first AF after years of birth control and monthly withdrawl bleeds. A lot lighter than what i can remember (sorry if TMI). Is it safe to assume my cycle has settled back into a regular 28 day cycle at month one? All advice and experiences welcome!!

Bananacake20 · 26/10/2019 21:04

Hi everyone can I join :) ttc for the first time, stopped taking the mini-pill 16th October. Trying not to be impatient but I really am! OH wants to take a relaxed approach with it all so we won't be using ovulation tests or anything, just letting nature take its course. Really excited to start this journey but nervous as well!

Blondeandbroody · 26/10/2019 20:52

@FutureMrsSmith I think my OH is just worried that it could happen too soon and neither of us are keen on using condoms, we never have as I’ve always been on either the pill or implant and both got tested before we got together so I don’t think that was even an option. I did suggest we “be careful“ for a month but he doesn’t wanna risk it Confused.

I am tempted to come off them a bit sooner than we’ve agreed but late enough so that if we were lucky enough to get pregnant quickly, he will be sorted with work by then anyway haha and he would never know Grin just because I’m really worried it will take months just to get regular and that’s putting having a baby off even further and I’m just so impatient!! Is that really bad haha! I think he’s focusing too much on the slim chance that I will get pregnant first time!

I’m not a psycho I swear haha!

Hi all. Hoping I can join you 👶🏼🍼

Me and OH are ttc #1. I came off the mini pill 13th October and had 4/5 days of period pains but no bleed. Those symptoms have completely gone. I have decided to do OPK immediately to see what's going on and get to know my body more. I used to have such a predictable cycle so hoping mine will return to its usual self soon. Definitely feeling I have taken that for granted.
My OH has been the one pushing to TTC so he's in agreement with the OPK although he has asked if he thinks BFP will be this year 😂 Iv had to explain the biology of baby making to him and lower his expectations.
@Blondeandbroody could you not come off the pill and then use condoms for the next month? It can take a while for your cycle to regulate itself?

Sending baby dust to all 😘

Daisy95 · 24/10/2019 21:43

Oh good will be nice to share our journeys together! That’s a good compromise 😊

Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 19:47

I’ll still be here :) want to see how you guys are getting on! I’m just so impatient so I’m a little disappointed he wants to wait but he initially said January so we met in the middle haha

OP posts:
Daisy95 · 24/10/2019 18:58

You’re right you both need to be on the same page, hopefully 5 weeks will go by quickly for you. When you come back in 5 weeks we may all have a lot more advice for you lovely. Wishing you lots of luck.

Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 18:47

Update: spoke to my OH after speaking tk the docs today about coming off the pill when it runs out next week and he thinks it’s too early to come off the pill so we’ve agreed I’ll take it for another month after it runs out and come off it in December. Whilst he knows the odds are I won’t, he doesn’t want me to get pregnant too soon because he’s so preoccupied with work he doesn’t wanna be unavailable should I need him. A little disappointing but I need us to be on the same page so if that means I have to go back a page for him I will. 5 more weeks of taking the pill for me I guess!

OP posts:
Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 17:08

@daisy95 it wasn’t letting me tag you?

Good luck with it! I think I have to remember and maybe we all do is that no matter what we do after a point nature has to take over and we have no control over that. I’m going to try really hard to be relaxed about it because I don’t want to stress myself or my OH out, by getting crazy!

OP posts:
Daisy95 · 24/10/2019 16:56

@Blondeandbroody I’m going the more relaxed route for now. But am tracking with an app called Ovia just so I kind of know where I am at.
I got a bit obsessed with symptom spotting the 5 weeks I came off the pill with no period so glad it’s here now and going to try and just wait and see what happens.

But we’ll see haha

Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 16:53

@Deli111 of course! I hope it all goes smoothly for you! Keep us updated haha as weird as it seems I’m eager to hear how you guys all get on so I know what to expect!!!

@Peaceandloves I’m pretty certain I’ll be the exact same!!! I’m too excited to just let it happen by complete chance!! I’ll probably have ordered some tests before the end of day 1 post mini pill TBH!!!

OP posts:
Peaceandloves · 24/10/2019 16:38

@Blondeandbroody I told myself that I would be casual about it but quickly found myself ordering OPKs. Feel like TTC is all consuming at the minute. Symptom spotting like crazy and obsessing even though it's only been a month!

Deli111 · 24/10/2019 15:54

Hello, can I join too please? I came off the mini pill on 4th October, but no period yet. I’m ttc no 2 xx

MsChatterbox · 24/10/2019 15:46

That sounds like a good plan! It's deffo worth trying relaxed first. If you can do it without doing all the extras then it's a lot less hassle 😊. Another thing the opks are good for is knowing when af is due so you don't spend days getting excited over being late when really you just ovulated late lol!! I look forward to hearing about your bfp at some point 😜

Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 15:40

@MsChatterbox haha good to know nothing’s out of bounds!

I think I’ll just see what happens the first few weeks after coming off the pill because really we aren’t going to be in a rush to get pregnant so soon as the OH is very preoccupied with work until mid December and I think he would prefer if we didn’t get a BFP quickly as he wouldn’t want to be away if I were sick or something were to happen, touch wood it won’t! So I think the relaxed approach will be mine for the first month or so until I get my first period and then I probably will like the control the tests will give me at least knowing what’s happening. I hate the unknown it drives me mad ha!!

OP posts:
MsChatterbox · 24/10/2019 15:30

I think the majority of women do the whole opk business without mentioning to their partners. The last thing you want is performance issues due to pressure! Some woman can find doing opks stressful. So if you think that might be you then maybe give the relaxed approach a go first and see what happens! I however found them very fun to do and loved seeing a second line on something at least! I conceived my first on the relaxed approach after one normal cycle. This time took 6 cycles and the last 2 were opks! BTW nothing is tmi on ttc threads 😊

Blondeandbroody · 24/10/2019 15:27

I do have a period tracking app which I will use regardless of whether I take ovulation tests for at least a loose guide but it won’t be of any use to me until I have my first period after coming off the mini pill. How are you @Daisy95 and @Peaceandloves tracking it or are you being more relaxed about it?

We normally always end up DTD (is this TMI?!?) more just after coming off my period anyways I think after a week of not being able to it makes us want to more haha, lucky that. I still get semi irregular periods whilst on the mini pill. So at least if we stick to our usual “routine” haha then there would be a decent chance of getting pregnant just by doing what we normally do for the most part. I see no harm in me encouraging it more if needs be, when I know I’m actually ovulating Grin
