Start TTC November/December, fresh off the mini pill, anybody else?

I’m due to stop taking the mini pill next week and then hopefully going to start TTC properly once my periods return to normal but in the meantime I’m aware that anything can happen and I for one am hoping that I’ll be one of the lucky ones to get a BFP quickly but I won’t hold my breath!

My OH is somewhat less enthusiastic as me so I think I need to proceed with caution and not mention when I’m ovulating or schedule DTD - I’ve waited years for him/us to be ready I daren’t scare him off now!!!!

Anybody else looking to start TTC soon after the mini pill?

Anybody else got any tips on how to proceed in terms of TTC, ovulation kits etc...

Hi @Minniemoo60, I'm exactly in the same boat! Stopped taking the pill in September, and haven't had a real period yet (although had 4 days of brown spotting last month, around the time my period should have come). It's so frustrating to wait for a period to come, when it's supposed to be a monthly occurence for most women...
I will only be starting TTC in January, so am really hoping period will arrive before then!

Minniemoo60 · 04/12/2019 18:38

I’ve had cramping and sore nipples, changes in discharge had spells where feel like period is coming but it doesn’t show up.

Going to focus on Christmas and look forward to that because it’s so easy to symptom spot and then be so upset when pregnancy tests are negative or period doesn’t show.

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 18:05

@Minniemoo60 of course not, the more the merrier!

Have you been getting any signs of ovulation when you've been testing and tracking? Xx

Hope you don’t mind me joining in. I stopped the pill September and had the withdrawal bleed 28th September and still haven’t had a period yet. It’s driving me mad and I feel like something is wrong with me. I have drove myself mad temperature monitoring, pregnancy and OPK testing so this month I have stopped and feel so much more relaxed. I’m hoping my body is just taking time to adjust, I do workout a lot and my doctor told me to have a month off working out as this can stop periods, then if no luck she is sending me for an ultrasound.

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 13:50

@FutureMrsSmith haha confused for a second til I read your second post. That's what I've been doing I started a Period on 18th and so I think I can only assume until proven otherwise if I get AF in the next few weeks) that that was CD1 like it normally would be when not on the pill and then if I do get AF and no BFP at least I have a better idea of what's going on for the next cycle. Thanks lovely x

As the day you started your period (not stopped)*

FutureMrsSmith · 04/12/2019 13:38

@Blondeandbroody I think your body is just getting used to been off the pill. Count CD1 as the day you stopped your period. I honestly wouldn't test until CD28 as that's the average cycle.
Symptom spotting will drive you mad, I had period cramps on and off and sore boobs for 2 weeks before AF finally arrived.

@MayDay27 I would have a think about OPKs, they will definitely help to understand when you are ovulating. My good friend has spent 14 months TTC and didn't do OPKs. She thought she was DTD at the right time. When referred for fertility treatment she found she was ovulating later than she expected each month so had been missing the window. You don't have to get obsessed. Just one a day for around CD10-20 and then you should get a good picture. It'll help you spot ovulation signs too so when the OPKs day high ovulation you can link the symptoms and then when TTC next year you will know signs of ovulation.

I'm on Cycle 1 - I wish I'd done all this sooner as I haven't had ovulation symptoms and OPKs say I ovulated CD16... although I don't know if that's right as I have no past history to check!

It's sooo confusing and consuming 😂

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 12:02

@MayDay27
Well that's what I'm confused about because I don't really know. I am thinking my best bet is to use the day I had a AF/bleed on 18th November and the same day I stopped taking the pill as cycle day 1 and maybe look at testing on/around cycle day 24 to see! Work on cycle days instead of DPO or AF due date.

I have been told not to test until AF is late but if I don't know for sure it's late I don't know when to test.

I suppose I should've just waited until I got my first proper AF after coming off the pill to start tracking things but I just feel that i did have a normal AF on 18th so I could have started a fresh cycle on that date as I didn't take the pill after that, so I didn't wanna waste a cycle!

I am going to be relatively busy at work between now and Christmas but I finish in two weeks and then I've got 3 weeks off! Hopefully in those three weeks I'll have a BFP so it won't matter but oh my god I am going to have to find something to distract me haha!!

I have some tests at home and I'm pretty proud of myself for not POAS so far!!!

MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 11:16

When would be the earliest you could test and potentially see something? I think we all
become a little crazy and obsessed about TTC, maybe use the strips just don't tell the OH Wink

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 10:38

@MayDay27
I think it's good to use them to have an understanding of what your body is doing. Especially for you if you have to wait, you'll have a head start if you already have a good idea of what day in your cycle you ovulate on so if you want to use them I say go for it. That way when you come to TTC you'll know when to get busy haha!

I do wish I knew because I just don't understand what's happening with my body right now and that's giving me some anxiety to be honest! I have no idea what DPO I'm on so I am just going to have to wait and see what happens and how I'm feeling. The only thing with OPKs is that I worry knowing me it will become something I am obsessed with and I don't want to get too obsessed about it for the sake of my OH and how he wants all this to happen - which is when it happens it happens! At the moment it's a happy balance where I just track my cycle and gently encourage DTD at the right times or what I believe to be the right times!

I am still getting super mild cramps not favouring one side or anything at the moment. It's too early for it to be any sort of implantation cramps unless I ovulated really really early! It seems to late to be ovulation paints too! Argh!!

I am fighting with myself to not go and do a test! It's way too early, I am sure of that!

OP posts:
MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 09:49

Yeh I think that sounds like a plan not to test for a little while. I bought the strips and I think I will use them i wish I could be more relaxed about it but I think by the time comes that we can try I'm going to have been obsessing over it for too long not to Confused

MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 09:47

I could say no, it's just a bit awkward because it's a great opportunity that they will be thinking I will really want and so it would be weird if I just said I've changed my mind! I think it's two months you have to wait or 3 months for guys if you've been to a country with Zika.

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 09:22

Ah yes true, I suppose you might be best off not telling them if you don't want them to know. Can you not just flat out say no? Surely they can't make you go if you really don't want to? How long would it delay you if you did go? X

The only thing that tempts needs to resting for ovulation is so I know what's going on and when but for me it feels like a slippery slope from being semi relaxed about it to make it feel more like a mission.

Maybe in a couple of months if we don't get a BFP I'll try it x @MayDay27

MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 09:11

I'm a bit nervous about telling people especially at work that I'm TTC, it's not that I don't think they would be understanding I just feel like they would perhaps judge a little and then there would be the pressure of them knowing if I don't get pregnant. I'll have to see when they are thinking of sending me and make a plan! I just feel the TTC plan is suddenly massively important but maybe I need to chill out about it a bit!
I think not doing tests sounds like a good idea especially since you guys have just started so no pressure. I've been off the pill about 10 days now, I don't feel any different but just want a natural period!

Blondeandbroody · 04/12/2019 09:01

@MayDay27 I suppose you could say you are TTC and that you're worried about the risk of catching the virus? A little white lie I suppose wouldn't hurt.

I think I'm just struggling with my emotions a little and also with not knowing wtf is happening with my cycle.

I haven't done any ovulation tests just because I didn't want to turn what my OH wants to be a let's just see what happens thing into OMG I'm ovulating go go go! I think if we do what we've done this cycle DTD frequently around what normal time for ovulation in the cycle we will catch it eventually.

MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 08:25

I did buy some ovulation test sticks that arrived yesterday have you done any testing? Do you just wee on the stick or wee into a pot then put the stick in Hmm

MayDay27 · 04/12/2019 08:23

I'm rubbish help because I'm new to all this and so have no idea! But I do think that pregnancy is always a possibility! Don't feel lonely we're all here in the same boat Smile I just can't wait till May to start trying! The problem I have though is work are looking at potentially sending me abroad for a month and possibly to a country with the Zika virus. It's something that normally I would be very excited about but recently my priorities have changed so much and now I'd rather not go if it means I have to wait longer to TTC. I don't know how I would get out of it though!

Blondeandbroody · 03/12/2019 23:15

Okay so now I’m SUPER confused. I had sort of thought I’d most likely ovulated by now, I’m on CD 16 (after I started bleeding on 18/11 which is then when decided to stop taking the pill and the bleeding lasted 6 days and was a very normal feeling period to me. My CM lately/today has been cloudy and very very very mildly sticky, But not stretchy maybe creamy (ew sorry haha) dunno what that means though to be honest!

But I’ve had cramps on and off today like mild period pains. Not sure what’s going on 😂 is that ovulation cramps?!?

the frustration of that first cycle post birth control I imagine?! Part of me can’t wait for my period so I can have a better understanding of my cycle next month. Having said that I’d much prefer a BFP, I just don’t know when I should test as I can’t be sure when I’ve missed a period as I can’t be sure when it’s due and now I’m not so sure when I ovulated or if I have yet! Urgh! I will have to symptom spot I suppose my body will tell me what I need to know.

i also have painful to the touch ribs which I can only assume is totally unrelated!

Sorry I needed to rant I’ve felt quite lonely today lots of mixed emotions and nobody to talk to just get the usual, don’t think about it, don’t get your hopes up, it might not happen this month etc and I don’t need to hear that I already know it just doesn’t change anything and doesn’t make me feel any better. I don’t wanna go all in with talking like this with my OH he’s so relaxed about it and I don’t wanna ruin that for him.

OP posts:
Blondeandbroody · 02/12/2019 21:00

That’s why I’m here @MayDay27 so I have a safe place to witter on and on about whatever’s on my mind without judgment and without my OH getting annoyed at me haha or thinking I’m psycho and changing his mind about having a baby with a nutter 😂

OP posts:
MayDay27 · 02/12/2019 18:20

It's been nice to read up on things and yes definitely nice to know that becoming so crazy about stuff seems relatively normal GrinI know that the OH is probably sick of me telling him about stuff so it's good I can chat on here!

Blondeandbroody · 02/12/2019 15:14

@MayDay27 I know that feeling, I joined here earlier than when we were ready to TTC it’s hard to see other people trying and you’re not but I’ve found it so useful and reassuring to see that I’m not alone with my crazy thoughts and obsessiveness etc!

That all sounds like a good and sensible plan!

I don’t think it can hurt to start taking folic acid now. I’m sure they say you should start as soon as you’re ready to start trying even before you’re pregnant so starting now certainly won’t do any harm? Though I wouldn’t take my advice haha I’m not a medical professional x

OP posts:
MayDay27 · 02/12/2019 15:11

Haha yes I may be crazy! We've already got one pup who's 3 so hopefully the new one will settle in ok! Since the wedding is going to be a very small affair it's not stressing me out too much, we're just getting married at a registry office and then hired a place to have a bit of a party afterwards. My fella is going Cambodia with work beginning of Feb so we're going to wait to TTC till at least mid May so he will have been back in the country for 3 months and eliminating any risk from Zika virus. I might start taking folic acid soon I know I'm always a little low with iron, I normally give blood but last time I tried they couldn't take it as my iron was too low. Excited to follow all your journeys! Just wish I was able to try sooner!

Blondeandbroody · 02/12/2019 14:42

@Elmlee I think certain women in certain circumstances need a stronger version I think age is a factor and whether you’ve a history of neural tube defects which is what folic acid helps to prevent. She just was going to prescribe me the normal stuff but no point given the cost difference!

@MayDay27 I wish I could get a new puppy to keep my mind off things! Puppy pictures encouraged and welcome haha! Mandatory even!!

OP posts:
Elmlee · 02/12/2019 14:39

@MayDay27 welcome to the club!
Your crazy! Puppy and wedding then possibly TTC! Wow go you lady! I'd have a breakdown!

@Blondeandbroody they look good matey. I think doctors can prescribe a stronger folic acid. Not sure what the reasons are though.

I've sent you and inbox 😘

Blondeandbroody · 02/12/2019 14:17

@Elmlee these are what I have but I’ve just been taking the straight folic acid for now, might switch to the others if/when I get a BFP. The folic acid was £1 in Asda for 180 tablets and the multi vitamins were £3.50 and there’s 60 in there. The GP tried to prescribe me some folic acid when I went to see her a month ago but no thanks when scrips are £9!
