Trying for a girl

I know that there's no gaurentee and I'm totally fine with whatever the outcome but if I COULD sway the gender I would like my second to be a girl after my little boy. So..I've done some research, I'm not doing anything crazy that could harm the baby or myself, just simple going on the assumption that boy sperm is faster than girl sperm therefore I should DTD in the running up to ovulation and stop just before. I came off my period 2 days ago so I have done an ovulation test to see where abouts I am in my cycle and the attached picture is the outcome, would you say now would be a good time to start DTD? Any other tips that are not going to affect myself or the baby like crazy diets would be appreciated!

If you finished your period two days ago, then you wouldn't be ovulating this soon surely??

Just have sex, no pressure. What will be will be.

There are 2 approaches for trying for a particular sex that both completely contradict each other. That should tell you all you need to know about whether we can 'sway' things to conceive a particular sex.

@codenameduchess thanks for the shitty reply, I made it very clear that I'm happy either way however if I could 'up' my chances of having a girl I'd like to do it only using the assumption that I won't be doing anything crazy and relying on timing..not that I'm so bothered that I 'shouldn't have one'. Ridiculous.

@PieAndPumpkins thank you, I'll be happy either way I'm just going to see what happens but I'll definitely let you know! Luisa Zissman did a blog online called Maybe Baby all regarding the ways to have a girl and she'd had 3. She has also had loads of success stories feeding back and input from doctors so it maybe worth a read? I'm not going to try anything other than timing but it's interesting to see what she had to say!

OP what you’re describing is the shettles method - it’s been completely disproved as male sperm do not “swim faster” than female sperm. It doesn’t work.

PieAndPumpkins · 27/08/2019 11:14

Meh, ignore the bitchy comments! Obviously we'real happy just to have a baby, regardless of what we think our preference would be.

I'd love another girl this time. Fingers crossed for you! Such a long wait to find out, but will you comment back and let us know? I'm going to try the timed dtd too, stopping before ovulation.

There are large parts of the world where daughters are less valuable than sons, if there was any way to influence sex at the point of conception then there would be considerable evidence of this in those communities.

You say you’re treating this as harmless fun but if you’re planning to stop having sex before you’ve actually ovulated then you are going to harm your chances of getting pregnant.

codenameduchess · 27/08/2019 10:24

What a load of bullshit. Boy sperm vs girl sperm is ridiculous. You'll get one or the other and if you're that bothered about the SEX of the child I'd suggest not having one.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 27/08/2019 10:19

Have a look at the Chinese gender charts - I did them for all my family (and when I was trying to conceive my first one) and it was correct - be aware some websites have different ones though. (I used whatwillihave )

Also diet plays a part apparently to make the uterus more or less alkaline

virginpinkmartini · 27/08/2019 10:01

There's a reason why the world population is nearly 50/50 men and women... Because its a literal 50/50 chance. If there was a way of swaying your chances (other than embryo selection) , it would be in medical journals.

jenthelibrarian · 27/08/2019 09:55

It looked as if my kids would be the only grandchildren on both sides, so after having a daughter I did do every single old wives tale I could find.

I had a son. Grin

There's loads of stuff online about diet and timing conception, I regarded it all as a bit of harmless fun. It did take me longer to conceive the second time, so my son was a summer rather than a spring baby.

BabyDancer · 27/08/2019 09:40

I agree with @Hayley94. There isn't anything you can do to determine the sex of the baby.

Hayley94 · 26/08/2019 21:21

I don't believe we can determine the sex of the baby. It's just a case of what we get 🙂
