Trying for a girl

I know that there's no gaurentee and I'm totally fine with whatever the outcome but if I COULD sway the gender I would like my second to be a girl after my little boy. So..I've done some research, I'm not doing anything crazy that could harm the baby or myself, just simple going on the assumption that boy sperm is faster than girl sperm therefore I should DTD in the running up to ovulation and stop just before. I came off my period 2 days ago so I have done an ovulation test to see where abouts I am in my cycle and the attached picture is the outcome, would you say now would be a good time to start DTD? Any other tips that are not going to affect myself or the baby like crazy diets would be appreciated!

@PotteringAlong

It’s always people who want a girl. No one ever wants a boy...
I wanted a boy! Lol. I only wanted boys... only because having a teenage girl puts pure fear in me 😂
I now have a beautiful boy and girl and pregnant with my 3rd and happy for either.

Also... @codenameduchess

Its sex not gender
I was happy to see someone actually point that out.

Roozy123 · 06/09/2019 08:16

I don't believe you can change anything in the result for when sex child you have.

My SIL done everything for a boy.... they've ended up with 3 girls.

Bodicea · 05/09/2019 22:49

I would say sex every other day from now until the day before you ovulate.
Regular sex keeps the sperm nice and fresh. Also expect it to take longer to conceive as you are missing prime conception time opportunities by not having intercourse st the point that you ovulate. So I would say only do it for a while and if you aren’t in a great hurry. But if you don’t conceive after a time I would give it up and have sex on those days too.

Pinkslink17 · 05/09/2019 22:40

@Nuttypea this has made my whole month, never mind making my day Grin

I don't think your theory is scientifically proven I'm afraid. I've just had my second DD and we DTD on the day I ovulated....sorry Confused

HJWT · 28/08/2019 21:49

@Nuttypea haha made me laugh 😂

Nuttypea · 28/08/2019 21:18

Currently ttc baby no 1, and dare I say that I would love a daughter. I think we're only human! If I had a son I wouldn't ask to return him, I'd be equally in love. BURN ME AT THE STAKE

@Gustavo1 thank you, I may invest in some decent ones I didn't really think too much into it if I'm honest but I makes sense as they didn't cost much at all!

@HJWT that's interesting! I suppose what will be, will be! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

@user1480880826 I've attached a photo of one of the websites that gives this information:

You can’t influence whether it’s a boy or a girl by having sex at different points in your cycle. What on Earth have you been reading?

HJWT · 27/08/2019 14:50

@Pinkslink17 Hi Op, I personally do find the chinese gender calendar to be quite accurate, it was correct in first pregnant with DD and It said this time if I conceive Jan it would be girl if I conceived Feb it would be boy! Its also been right for all of my sisters, could just be a huge coincidence! But thats 13 babies it was right for 😂

Also with DD we DTD on the MORNING of ovulation and with DS (currently 32 weeks) we DTD the NIGHT before the day of ovulation!

This wasn't on purpose, with DD it was NYE and could not be bothered so was left till morning and with DS we was in the mood so we DTD the night before 😆

Gustavo1 · 27/08/2019 14:35

Personally, I don’t think there can be a way to control the sex of a baby. But, if you’re genuinely happy the outcome either way, no harm in a little experiment!

I think those ovulation tests are quite unreliable, in that the darkness of the lines rather than their appearance is the important thing. I could be mistaken but when I was using them, I found it very hard to predict ovulation as I would usually get two lines and had to be quite precise in matching them in colour!

OneForTheRoadThen · 27/08/2019 14:35

@PotteringAlong in the 'West' yes it seems so. Definitely not the case in other countries though.

Pinkslink17 · 27/08/2019 14:30

@PancakesAndMapleSyrup that's very interesting to know! When the time comes I'll post to see if the outcomes the same for me!

@Ginmonkey84 sorry to hear about your loss, I hope you have an easier pregnancy this time round. Do let me know what happens! I'm unsure when I'm actually ovulating, I've been really relaxed about starting the whole process this time around so I've not checked until yesterday and I'm breastfeeding so my periods are alittle crazy!

@pinkslink17 we have a group page in 'conception' section titled something like, 'fresh of the mini pill, hoping for BGP sep/Oct for summer 2020 baby'. Lots of friendly and supportive ladies, come and join us x

Pinkslink17 · 27/08/2019 14:26

@codenameduchess I hope writing bitchy comments over Mumsnet behind a fake name gives you some sort of fulfilment, I feel sorry for you. Have a good day.

No idea, don’t believe you can influence it personally but assuming you have fairly regular cycles, you enter your fertile zone for at least a week after the end of your period! Ovulation happens on day 14 of 28 day cycle.

Ginmonkey84 · 27/08/2019 14:20

It will be interesting to see how many this actually worked for although I’m not sure how much is research there is into male sperm being faster etc. I’m due to find out the gender of our baby in a couple of weeks time after our harmony test. Going by this theory I should be having a girl as I only had intercourse once two days before my ovulation. We weren’t actively trying as I had just had a miscarriage so was a total surprise it happened. So will see what baby is will let you know lol but I’m more than happy with either x

ginandwine · 27/08/2019 14:13

No u can't up the changes of getting a girl u get what your given u can't change it now or make it be a girl

PancakesAndMapleSyrup · 27/08/2019 14:08

I think that timing does play a fairly good role. I did the timing with my last two and both were DDs

codenameduchess · 27/08/2019 14:00

Its sex not gender.

Pinkslink17 · 27/08/2019 13:40

@PotteringAlong I have a boy, had I had a girl first I would have still liked to have the opposite gender, I only plan on having two. I don't think I'd be the only person saying if they could they'd like to experience both? If I have another boy atleast I'll be prepared to make sure everything's pointing down in the nappy this time to avoid a fountain at 3am..

@Snowflake9 I know I thought the same! I'm breastfeeding so my periods are alittle all over the place so I thought I'd do a test to see where I am in the cycle but it seems crazy early?! Here's today's:

General reply, as I've stated very clearly - I will not be doing anything crazy I'm simply timing when I DTD to see if I conceive a girl, I was looking to see if anyone has tried this and had feedback either way. I am happy if I conceive a girl OR BOY. Yes I am aware I will have less chance of getting pregnant this month, I'm not desperately trying to make it happen my first cycle in. I would like a second child, I'm not putting on any pressure. If it happens this month great, I'll hope for a healthy pregnancy regardless of the gender. If not, I'll try again next month and see what happens. I joined this group when trying to conceive with my first and was very hesitant to comment on anything because I could see how people were jumped on so quickly and it seemingly hasn't changed. I honestly don't see that there is anything wrong with what I have written for people to be telling me I shouldn't be having another child, I'm happy to get opinions off others but there's no need to be rude.
