Hi all,

suppose i'm just feeling very deflated lately. It's my 8th cycle trying to conceive.

I've tried having sex everyday, every other day, every 2 days, temping, Opks and nothing is working. I did have my progesterone and thyroid checked and they were fine. Progesterone was 44 on day 21.

I'm 29 years old and beginning to lose hope.

I suppose I am just looking for a little hope. If it took longer than 8 months for you to get pregnant, when did it happen and what helped you?

sincerely, losing hope.

Hello just wanted to drop in and say thank you for this thread. It’s also given me a little hope. I am 33 and came off the pill 15 months ago and this is my 11th cycle (AF just showed). It really is head work and nothing seems to work. The anxiety that ttc causes just doesn’t help and I was also slowly losing hope. But this thread has given me the little pick me up that I needed. Thank you ladies.

Hayls17 · 27/07/2019 15:17

#1 aged 25 took 4 months since coming off the pill but not really monitoring ovulation etc
#2 aged 28 took 15 months, used ovulation strips, temping etc.

Same weight/lifestyle both times. Think sometimes it’s just luck of the draw! Hang in there it will happen Flowers

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 27/07/2019 15:08

14 months with No 2, conceived first month using preseed.

BoomerangLurker · 27/07/2019 15:07

Conceived the first month and lost it at 9 weeks. Conceived my son at 13 months trying and now on month 6 of trying for my second. It's hard but I just have to remind myself that some people have much harder journeys and I'm so grateful to have my son. I'm 29 now and I was 27 when I had my son if that's of any interest lol

Wineandchoccy · 27/07/2019 13:57

23 months I was 33 sadly ended in a missed miscarriage then 2 months after I fell pregnant with dd1. Then 8 months trying for dd2 I was 37.

Xyzzzzz · 27/07/2019 13:54

Two years, was told I don’t ovulate and then actively stopped trying. Then I fell pregnant naturally. I’m 38 weeks now with my first.

CatInADoghouse · 27/07/2019 13:45

15 months here. I wasn't ovulating and one cycle was over 100 days. Tamoxifen gave my ovaries a kick and we were very lucky and conceived that cycle. Good luck! I hope you get your BFP soon!

Weedinosaurus · 27/07/2019 13:05

4 years. Hardest 4 years ever. Not being dismissive but 8 months really isn’t long. I think the whole ‘average is 6 months’ causes a lot of unnecessary worry when it takes longer.
It happened for me when I gave up. We moved house (taking in a mortgage that was a stretch with me on mat leave) and we booked a skiing holiday. I ended up skiing whilst pregnant (which really means drinking hot chocolate) and am now living in a house that we bought as a distraction to do up to take the focus off ttc. We now haven’t done the work we planned to do.
What I’m trying to say is, get on with life and it will prob ably happen when it’s least convenient Grin

anitagreen · 27/07/2019 12:57

My DD took two and a half years no reason found, my DS I wasn't trying and he was born 18 months after my DD, my Third now I'm 17 weeks with I tried for nearly a year had a Mc in September and a chemical in October then fell pregnant this April
I hate so much when people say oh just relax it'll happen but both times I said fuck this I'm not doing it anymore and just started to have sex normally without pressure it happened.
I also tried Seven seas trying for a baby did nothing, Pre seed, taking more vitamins, nothing worked at all.

MushySeas · 26/07/2019 14:53

Three years and counting for me, sadly.

But OP I wanted to say please don't put anything on hold. I did, and I bitterly regret it.

Keep living your life, booking things, going forward, it made it much worse for me as I put LOTS on hold and 3 years later it's looking unlikely.

I feel better now I've stopped holding and have life going on and things to look forward to.

Thegracefuloctopus · 26/07/2019 13:31

Okay stop doing everything youre doing! You are waaaaay over doing it. Calculating what your due date would be? The amount of stress and pressure youre putting on yourself is most likely pushing it further away.
We got pregnant 9 months in, once we stopped stressing and decided to go with the flow.
Do not put your life on hold for it, youre just going to do yourself in. Seriously, it sounds cliche but you HAVE to chill out and let what will be, be. Youre clearly desperate and i get that but youre doing yourself no favours and i have no doubt its causing relationship strain too, it always does.

EvelineUK · 26/07/2019 13:16

Also don't underestimate the effect of that nagging stress on your endocrine system and therefore chances of conceiving, there is solid science behind the 'Just let it happen' theory. Think of it more like a science project than a ticking clock ;)

Preggosaurus9 · 23/07/2019 22:33

I wouldn't put life on hold while TTC. Most things can be rescheduled, put on hold etc. once baby arrives. Just carry on as normal and enjoy your life!

For me it took over 12m and I was similar age to you. I got very discouraged. It happened the month I gave notice to leave my job! Also the one time I fell asleep immediately after sex rather than going to the loo Hmm

OhTheJoys1 · 23/07/2019 22:26

So nice to hear success stories.

I think frustrations are amplified because you secretly hope it will happen within first 3 months of trying and you make hypothetical plans based on that.

Every month I calculate due date and each month its getting further away.

I suppose its just difficult as i'm putting certain things off such as holidays being booked and taking a promotion that will require me to do a masters degree for a year. I missed this years intake because thought id be pregnant and now I'm wondering whether to apply for next September in case it doesn't happen.

Uncertainty is the route cause of feeling hopeless I suppose.

Thanks for replies, it really does help x

9 months, genuinely felt like it would never happen. I was dtd everyday and switched to every other day and that seemed to work. The month I fell I also took pregnacare preconception and DH took wellman and that seemed to help too. I’m now 13 weeks. Good luck.

Littlefish · 23/07/2019 10:46

Two and a half years!

EvelineUK · 23/07/2019 10:35

As long as you are regular and you know when you are ovulating (OPK or BBT, keep your folic acid up and look at the SMEP method to give you the best chance. Make sure you keep and eye on your ovulation though because it is not always as regular as your cycle. Oh and make sure your partner follows the sperm health rules too. More than anything don't try too many of these snake oils and old wives tales, stick to doing the basics right. Good luck x

theydontknowweknow · 23/07/2019 09:59

Mid 20s, both perfectly healthy, I finally had a positive test during the 11th cycle! Don't lose hope OP Flowers

Ivy40 · 22/07/2019 23:49

@sinisterbumfacecat

Same thing happened to my friend. Tried for a year, really well behaved - no booze, lost weight. After 12 months, thought f it, can’t live like this. Went to Italy and drank loads of wine and ate everything she’d been avoiding. Bam, pregnant.

I think there’s a lot to be said for relaxing. My problem is I’m 40 so not sure how much time I have left. May already be past it.

SummerSeasoning · 22/07/2019 23:47

Three years (from age 35.)

I'd thought it was not going to happen tbh.

DramaAlpaca · 22/07/2019 23:47

It took me 11 months to conceive the first when I was 28 & about ten minutes to conceive my second Grin Then DC3 took about four months.

This was back in the days before opks were available, but I had a good idea when I was ovulating because my cycle was very regular so we concentrated on trying around then.

Don't lose hope Flowers

onemorerose · 22/07/2019 23:46

It finally happened after taking folic acid. 8 months is not that long for some people, hang in there

SinisterBumFacedCat · 22/07/2019 23:45

18 months. We were in France, had given up hope and decided to drink wine and eat cheese and cold meats and everything your not supposed to do really.

bonzo77 · 22/07/2019 23:38

We tried for 18months for number 3. The only thing different about the month I got pregnant was that I was taking antibiotics!

( tried for about 5minutes for number 1 and 12 months for number 2 with a bfp after 7 months ending in a mc at 12ish weeks).

hairyharrison · 22/07/2019 23:37

Took 2 and a half years for me!
