Positive test several days after taking?? FRER

I'm hoping someone can clear this up for me; I know that you're not supposed to look at tests past the set recommended time and I normally don't. However, I was going to clean out some of the old ones and I found this one (bottom in the pic) which I had taken on the day of my expected period this month. I'm 6 days late and still no sign of AF, which is why I found the bottom test strange.

When I first took it I thought that there was a second line but couldn't tell so I chucked it in a drawer. I've been using the cheapie ones that show hints of the second line as well. The top test is one from several months ago and as you can see, there is no distinct line (maybe a hint of an evap if that.)

What is the difference? Why is the bottom one showing the second line 6 days after taking and the top one, not at all? Is that a positive sign? I have more frer coming in today as I've never been this late in my life, but I just thought I'd ask out of curiosity!

I do know that Chemical Pregnancies are common but then this would be my 2nd one in a row if this is a CP and I can't help but feel like there's something wrong with me. I already cried a bit and I know my boyfriend is gutted too. Idk. I think there's a very slim chance that it's ok. Do you guys think I should still go to the doctors and request blood work?

@ikphillips @Rosieandposies1 @Abi58 I took another one today and it's even fainter. I guess it was too good to be true haha. I got really excited but I'm doubtful that this is a sticky baby. I don't know whether I still should go to the doctors or not?? I'm still 'bleeding' but it's not as I normally would on a period. It's more orangy/ rustic with brown and pink spots. It hasn't filled a pad yet but there is some when I wee ugh Sad

@itscallednickingbentcoppers it's just an estimate of when my period was supposed to be. I wasn't tracking my ovulation so I'm not 100% sure. And my friend didn't get a positive until she was two weeks late and that was faint. Her baby is now 9 months old :)

@Rosiesandposies1 if you read the original post she's actually 6 days late so I wouldn't call that early testing.
Also I in part agree with you as I had a 'chemical' (hate that term) last cycle but the dr told me it's usually a chromosomal abnormality and nothing that I did or caused and the silver lining was that we could get pregnant, so although it was heartbreaking I'm glad I knew about it. Dr also called it an early miscarriage chemical is just as they can't clinically diagnose pregnancy via ultrasound when so early so clad it as a chemical (proved chemically).
Somehow the temptation still outweighed the fear of early testing the following month and I then had a week or so of worry but thankfully it seems to be sticky and I'm now 6+1

@itscallednickingbentcoppers please don't take this the wrong way I'm not having a go but there are people on here who haven't got even a whisper of a positive until later so it could be possible that implantation was later

@NikolaPiccola 🤞🏻 for you
How did you get on this morning?

ikphillips · 14/07/2019 08:22

Any news @NikolaPiccola? X

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 13/07/2019 22:28

@NikolaPiccola there's no easy way to put this but I would for a healthy pregnancy I would expect your line to be much darker by now at 6 days late. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst Thanks

Rosiesandposies1 · 13/07/2019 22:13

I’m not saying this will happen to you. But in a way this is why I don’t like early tests. Back when I had my first 20 years ago, if your period was a few days late, you put it down to being stressed, change of routine, working to hard, exercise etc. Where as now, so many people are aware of chemical pregnancies, where as we had no idea. When you look at the statists (I’m not going to say them now), but it is so common for a chemical to happen. Yet unless someone is actively trying to conceive, are taking notes of when they ovulated, when they are due on etc, then most women are unaware that it has happened. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing?

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 21:57

@Rosiesandposies1 @Bellaposey thankyou both! Yes I am hoping that this is the case with me. I did take another cheapie strip test and it came up so much darker than this morning (I took it a few hours ago when I started spotting) so I'm taking this as a good sign. I have a panty liner on and nothing is really coming out, only when I'm wiping so I'm hoping that is a positive sign too. I'm just really anxious. I get attached really easy to these sorts of things and I would be devastated if this is another CP.

I will be taking another first response tomorrow morning so hopefully, it will be much darker. I will then go to the doctors monday first thing.

Keeping everything crossed for you OP. I bled with my first and she was perfect.

Rosiesandposies1 · 13/07/2019 21:12

Congratulations- I have my fingers crossed for your sticky bean. Remember many women spot and bleed during early pregnancy and go onto have a healthy pregnancy. I know it’s easy for me to say- but try not to worry right now x

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 20:27

so I just started spotting (pinkish brown with some spots of red, only when I wipe) and now I'm really worried. Please keep your fingers crossed that this is a sticky baba!

@ikphillips Thankyou! I'm trying to not get too excited yet until I speak to a doctor Monday but still! Fingers crossed for you! Flowers

Oh my gosh congratulations!!!! Wooo! So pleased for you. Oh god don't let me get my hopes up now! Confused

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 13:30

I'll update tomorrow morning as well when I take the second test!

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 13:28

@Ailsa34 @Abi58 @Yakadee @ikphillips It's positive! My tests just came, this isn't first-morning urine (although I've been holding it in for 2 hours lol) and it's a very clear positive in person. I don't know why the camera doesn't pick it up. But yeah, I think I'm definitely pregnant! I had a friend confirm the second line btw aha

@NikolaPiccola me too! I'm not counting on anything just yet but I'm quietly hopeful (although it will probably turn out to be nothing). It's funny I've done loads of research and that's the only info I can find on the internet that clarifies what some of this stuff means... there's just so little sensible/scientific information available. Drives me nuts

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 13:01

@ikphillips yes I get what you're saying. I'm going to remain mildly hopeful until I get a period or a bfp then! x

OP posts:
ikphillips · 13/07/2019 13:01

@NikolaPiccola good luck to you, keeping everything crossed!!

ikphillips · 13/07/2019 13:00

Essentially what I think he's saying is no the test strip won't go pink unless you have HCG in your system; yes you could still get a positive and then have a period (a chemical pregnancy); and yes 'evap lines' do exist but they are colourless. The reason hpt producers tell you to discard after a certain time frame is that people often can't tell the difference between a positive that appears later on and an evap. This makes logical sense to me personally but I still don't trust my tiny pink line and waiting until I get a BFP in the time frame (if that ever happens) x

NikolaPiccola · 13/07/2019 12:59

@Abi58 @Yakadee thanks both! I will update once I take the tests x

@ikphillips oh wow that explains so much! And it makes sense. I ALWAYS keep the caps on and I just went to check the test (sorry this is tmi and gross) and the tip was still damp, which would explain why the result appeared. And it is also pink! That has made me feel better, and would explain why my period is 6 days late.

I could have written this post myself! I POAS on Thursday and then picked mine up some time later and had a faint pink line... AF not due until Tuesday and I'm too terrified to test again. I'm consoling myself with this info!!
