@dahlia123 and @Meenabeena thanks! I'll look into them.
Meena, unfortunately my periods are pretty irregular every month (ovulated on CD22 last cycle and CD30 before that) so I usually just start testing a week after my period ends. Think that's one positive about the dip sticks as I go through a lot with my long cycles!

starkid · 23/04/2019 18:07

@dahlia123 - thanks darling, and sorry for the bfn but it's early days still, fx for you xx

Chembecky · 23/04/2019 17:57

AF due today...but not here yet. Then I started feeling nauseous on the way home from work so I did a cheap dip test but BFN.....I bet AF will turn up tomorrow....! Confused

Meenabeena · 23/04/2019 17:02

Hi @LokiCat
I’d recommend the clear blue digital ovulation sticks. Count the days from when your last period ended to when your next period is due and that number will tell you which cycle day to start testing. I started testing on day 11 and on was expecting the smiley face on day 15. Come Day 15 I got blank face in the morning but later in the day I tested again because I was getting lots of CM and just had a feeling. And I was right, I got a smiley face on that second test. So I would recommend testing in the middle of the day rather than first thing in the morning. Hope this helps!!

dahlia123 · 23/04/2019 16:51

@LokiCat think you can start temping whenever. I preferred the CB OPK over the IC as it felt like a more definite answer.

LokiCat · 23/04/2019 16:48

@Keyboard91 your talk to yourself made me laugh out loud on the train 🙈😂
Sorry to read about your MC and then your CP. I hope this cycle brings you positive news 🤞🏽❤️

@MrsAW2018 sorry to hear AF arrived! It's understandable to be upset about the whole TTC journey. I hope you feel better after a break xxx

@DanceMagicDance1 and @Meenabeena welcome 😊

I'm already symptom spotting and questioning every twinge but I'm not even close to start testing for ovulation yet 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Already started checking my CM yesterday, as soon as AF stopped. I think I may have an obsession with wanting to pee on an OPK.. time is moving too slowly!

I'm thinking of splurging and just buying the CB ovulation tests. From reading here, it seems you guys prefer them over the cheap dipping sticks?
I may start temping too.. would it have been better to start from the start of my cycle, or can I start temping from tomorrow morning?

dahlia123 · 23/04/2019 16:44

@Tropicana1 holding my hands up as also guilty of extreme symptom spotting 🤷🏼‍♀️🙈

Early implantation cramps rather than a large burrito...
Hormone headache rather than dehydration...
The list could go on!

dahlia123 · 23/04/2019 16:33

@MrsAW2018 be kind to yourself. Hope the break helps

Definitely feels they ought to take you more seriously @starkid

Hi @Meenabeena and @DanceMagicDance1

I've had the Ava fertility bracelet for about 2 months @DanceMagicDance1
Here's what I think:
PROS:

  • no waking up to temp - would be a tiring nightmare for me as I work shifts.
  • easy to use
  • predictions seem good. Clear blue digital ovulation kit said I was due to ovulate but think I geared up for it then didn't actually. Kept on DTD and checking for EWCM because of Ava so managed to have sex during my fertile window thankfully
  • in app notifications and articles help me to understand graphs (graph attached if helpful)
  • not going to have to buy ovulation sticks again
  • suspecting I wasn't pregnant as my temperature dropped before my period was somehow less brutal than a stark white BFN on a pregnancy test

CONS:

TLDR: I find it has brought down my stress levels and helped to work out if I have ovulated. No regrets despite the price.

I've just got a BFN on a Frer. 10dpo so clinging onto hope that there's still time despite me being 2 days from being due on. Hoping that my sore (but not that sore) boobs and slowly climbing temperature is a good sign but would have liked a squinter of a line.

Argh - just wrote a long msg and think it's failed to post. Going to rewrite but sorry if it duplicates somehow...

Tropicana1 · 23/04/2019 16:12

@Keyboard91 yay cycle buddy! We can symptom spot together 😂

@FlapJackered @starkid Haha don't I can already see myself going out of control this next week!

@MrsEG I know! I have a fairly short LP so currently AF predicted Wednesday so even less time. Don't know what's happened to me, I've gone from being convinced we've not DTD at the right times or enough to convinced that my backache must be a sign of pregnancy 🙈

starkid · 23/04/2019 15:27

@Meenabeena @DanceMagicDance1 welcome to the thread/madness!

@Tropicana1 - I never believe the tests/pms symptoms etc. and still always hope I might be pregnant. Even today I was still slightly hopeful as there hadn't been much blood. I guess it's good to still try and be positive no matter how futile 😂 exciting for you only being 4dpo, plenty of time for symptom spotting still haha!

@FlapJackered - thanks for the info! :) Have had one of the 4 tests done already, so be interested to see which comes next. Might bring up my day 21 test again too when I see her, as I think you guys said 1 of them was still too low for when ttc, will have to dig them out to see which one it was again.

Am presuming the scan would show what a mess my insides are so can be taken seriously. I mean, you'd think having your large intestine + rectum removed plus 'exit' sewn shut would warrant the doctors to show slight interest in any concerns you then have with anything else it's affected in there, but she didn't bat an eyelid at it last time I went. I guess they really do see it all!!

Keyboard91 · 23/04/2019 14:53

@MrsH497 I remember you too, I'm sorry to find you still here xx

@Lottiepink thank you xx

@FlapJackered OMG it makes me feel so much better to know other people symptom spot during their period! I thought it was just me ... I literally had to give myself a talk (out loud, my DP thought I had finally lost it!) in the bathroom one morning along the lines of 'Your lining is LITERALLY falling out of you right now, pull yourself together girl!'

MN is bad for my productivity. I'm back to school tomorrow and all I have done to prepare is write the days of the week in my planner ... looking forward to having a routine again though. This term is the worst as I have 2 Year 11 classes to get through their GCSE's! Eeek!

FlapJackered · 23/04/2019 14:47

Welcome @DanceMagicDance1 @Meenabeena 😁 Dance, I have heard good things about Ava and I know a couple of girls on here have started using it, so I am sure someone will be along with some advice.

@Lottiepink @starkid At the year mark the doctors did day 3 and day 21 blood tests, I also had a scan to check my ovaries. Also the DH had a sperm analysis. I think if anything shows up on those tests they will refer you to a fertility clinic (or if you're over 35 I think you can get a referral.) because nothing showed up on mine as being that wrong I was told I could only get a referral after 2 years which is a pain in the arse!
I would say make sure you get a print out of the blood test results and sperm results, as in some cases what the GPs class as a normal result could still be causing problems. E.g. thyroid tsh in my case!

@Marleym28 I am cd22 but still no sign of ovulation so you may actually be ahead of me this cycle 🙈

@Tropicana1 😂 we all do it! I even do it during my period and have to remind myself that the nausea is not because I am pregnant! 😂😂

MrsEG · 23/04/2019 14:41

@KatBeCool There’s SO much info around about it. We’re giving SMEP a go this month; DTD every other day from CD8, then DTD day of ov, following day and once more for luck the day after that too. I remember reading it thinking that seemed really excessive for the days post-ov, but sod it, we’re giving it a whirl. Only CD10 today mind, and I’m already knackered just looking at our sex schedule!!

@Tropicana1 Symptom spotting is the worst, I know from experience you can drive yourself totally insane! Try and just keep yourself busy or you’ll second guess every twinge. 10 days isn’t so far away to find out for sure!

@starkid @Lottiepink I’m afraid I don’t know what the one year tests are but just wanted to wish you both the best of luck - here’s hoping you both get some help and answers very soon!

@DanceMagicDance1 Welcome - I’m 33 and my younger sister has a 1 year old so I completely understand that feeling!! Good luck x

Lottiepink · 23/04/2019 14:37

@Keyboard91 so sorry to hear your news too :(

MrsH497 · 23/04/2019 14:15

@Keyboard91 I remember you from before sorry you've had such an awful time x

Lottiepink · 23/04/2019 14:05

@MrsAW2018 bless you hope you are ok x

Hi everyone, not really posted much recently been busy, pleased to be back tho!

@starkid so pleased you just asked that because we have the year mark, and im going to get in touch with doctors, but I literally have no idea where to start!

If anyone could help I would appreciate it 😊. Thanks x

KatBeCool · 23/04/2019 14:05

@Tropicana1 @MrsEG for the longest time I've been trying to find out if you can ovulate during the surge and so far the answer is "no". Surge happens, on the most broad scale, 6-72 hours before ovulation, with a 12-36 hours average. Sure, if you held your pee over 6 hours, or overnight, it's possible that you ovulated before you used an OPK. But sounds like the extremes are unlikely and rare.

@Tropicana1 often the temp drops the day before or the day of ovulation and it can, indeed, take several days for it to rise. An immediate dramatic rise is rare. That's why they suggest to look at the three day consistent ride to confirm the ovulation.

@FlapJackered no progesterone yet, must confirm the temp rise first. Although the instructions say day 18, and when I saw the dr, he said day 16. I'm guessing I'm due to ovulate today as the temp dropped low today and opk was still positive midday yesterday but lighter this morning. Glad to see yours got darker, hopefully ovulation is soon.

Meenabeena · 23/04/2019 14:00

Hi, new to Mumsnet and this is my first thread posting. Im not sure what all the abbreviations are atm so I'll just say it all smile

We are trying to conceive first baby. Cycle number 4 but this is the first cycle we used the clear blue ovulation sticks. I started testing on day 11 and got the smiley face on day 15. 4 days post ovulation and I feel okay.

Two week wait now. Period is due next weekend so fingers crossed

DanceMagicDance1 · 23/04/2019 13:50

Hello. I'm new to all this. Me and my hubby have been doing a half arsed job of trying to conceive for a couple of years but I am 35 and a younger family member just announced their pregnancy so I/we've had a bit of a wake up call and are going to start doing things properly.

I would love to have a group of people to go through the process with and talk about the highs and lows, so I hope it's okay to join the chat. I have just ordered an Ava after reading a thread about them on here (and a bit of social media targeted advertising), anyone have any advice on using one?

Keyboard91 · 23/04/2019 13:44

@Tropicana1 I'm with you on that one (also 4dpo!). I have backache, a headache and some very slight cramping. Pretty sure cramping is because of the amount of chocolate I've eaten and my insides being unhappy though, headache because I'm hot and backache because I've been sat at my computer lesson planning!

Even more frustrating is that I have got symptoms with my previous MC and CP that started 4-5dpo so it can happen and isn't impossible! But that then doesn't help the rational side of the brain be bloody rational!!!

Marleym28 · 23/04/2019 13:30

@FlapJackered what cd are you? I think we may be cycle pals
I'm CD9 x

Tropicana1 · 23/04/2019 13:26

I don't know what's happened but sensible Tropicana has left the building - I'm currently 4dpo and have lower back ache and some mild cramping and OBVIOUSLY that means I'm pregnant, even though Rational me knows that 4dpo is impossible to have any symptoms because no embryo would implant yet. FFS what is wrong with me 😂

starkid · 23/04/2019 12:40

@MrsAW2018 - sorry AF has arrived for you too, and can understand wanting a break :( xx

So I've booked my docs appointment for late next week, has anyone been through the whole '1 year of ttc, now off to the docs' process on here before, through NHS not private? Just wondering what to expect I guess. I already had the day 21 blood test done before. Am thinking maybe sperm test?

FlapJackered · 23/04/2019 11:16

Opk is very slightly darker today. Fingers crossed this means ov is on its way. DH was going to cycle to work today and I asked him not to (protect the sperm!!!), he is now trying his best not to be annoyed with me but I am getting grouchy vibes, which I do understand but he should just try to live with the sacrifices I make, not cycling one day is nothing! 😕

@KatBeCool i could be wrong but I think it is possible the surge can end after ovulation has occurred but I think it will always start before ovulation, I test so much that there is no danger of missing the start of the surge. 😂🙈 It sounds like you caught it! 🤞🏻Are you onto the dreaded progesterone now?

@MrsAW2018 I am so sorry to hear about AF, I was really hoping this would be the cycle for you. I am so with you with the need to take a break. I hope you manage to find some peace. We will be here if you need us x
